The convicts, identified as Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan, were prosecuted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after being found in possession of firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

The three had previously been remanded in custody but reappeared before the court, where His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako presided over the proceedings. During the hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges.

Based on their pleas, the court convicted all three and sentenced each to pay a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400. In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.

The prosecution is part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal weapons possession and enhance public safety in the region.

Police have urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and maintain peace and security.

The arrests were made on Monday, February 3, 2026, at Goziri, a community near Vieri, when a police patrol team spotted a group of about five men openly wielding single-barrel guns and cutlasses, raising concerns about public safety.

According to the police, the suspects attempted to flee upon noticing the patrol vehicle, but officers quickly pursued and apprehended three individuals identified as Yahaya Samad, 27; Adams Alhassan, 37; and Yiritang Boosi, 35.

A search at the scene led to the recovery of three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses, and 23 BB cartridges from the suspects.

The three were taken to the police station, where they reportedly admitted during interrogation that they did not possess licences for the firearms and ammunition. They were later arraigned before the Wa Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako, and remanded to reappear on February 18, 2026.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects who escaped during the operation.

The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism, while cautioning members of the public against possessing firearms without proper authorisation. The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and appealed for continued cooperation from the public in safeguarding communities.

The suspects, identified as Kwame Boahen, 35, a pillion rider, and Fatau Alhassan, 52, an okada rider, were arrested on Saturday, 20 December 2025.

They were riding a Royal motorbike with a faded number plate when police intercepted them during a routine patrol.

The arrest followed an earlier incident on Friday, 19 December 2025, when a patrol team spotted the motorbike at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and attempted to stop it for a routine check.

Upon noticing the police, the suspects reportedly abandoned the motorbike and attempted to flee but were arrested after a brief chase, despite resistance.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of one pistol bearing the number 39363 with the inscription “CS HEAND SUH,” seventy-two rounds of ammunition, four mobile phones, an iPhone, an LG smartphone, a Blackberry phone and a keypad phone, as well as two wristwatches.

The suspects have been cautioned and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The retrieved items have been retained as exhibits, while police work to trace the owners of the recovered mobile phones and establish the source of the firearm and ammunition.

The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue supporting police efforts by providing credible information to help combat crime and enhance public safety.

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect, Yahaya Seidu, for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition at Aponteng Krom in the Western Region.

According to a police statement, the suspect was spotted with a locally manufactured pistol and was unable to provide any lawful justification for possessing the weapon.

A search led to the retrieval of one locally manufactured pistol and two live cartridges.

Yahaya Seidu is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned soon.

Police had earlier arrested Dangotey’s accomplice, Kofi Godsway, after a search conducted on a Nissan pickup vehicle which the suspects used.

The search resulted in the discovery of several illegal items including one pump-action gun, one locally manufactured pistol, one foreign desert eagle pistol, and 13mm cartridges.

Suspects fired sporadically at a burial service of a young woman at Sekesua resulting in distress calls from mourners to Police but suspects fled in a Toyota Corolla Saloon car with registration number GG 1226-16 when they saw the Police arriving at the service.

At Otrokper police checkpoint, suspects were signalled to stop but they rather opened fire and fled into a nearby bush abandoning their car.

With the help of some youth of Akatekpor, a neighbouring community, Police arrested the four suspects.

Meanwhile, suspects will be charged with all the crimes committed.

According to the police statement, this is another wake up call to those who possess firearms without authority to return them to the Police or as directed by the Small Arms Commission.

The statement, which was shared on Facebook, added that, people are reminded that unauthorised firing is a crime, be it at at burials, funerals or any other event. The Police will continue to count on well meaning citizens and residents such as the youth of Akatekpor to weed out criminals.
