U-20 WWC: Things didn’t go as planned – Head Coach on Black Princesses’ early exit https://www.adomonline.com/u-20-wwc-things-didnt-go-as-planned-head-coach-on-black-princesses-early-exit/ Fri, 19 Aug 2022 12:38:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2151805 Head Coach of Black Princesses, Ben Fokuo, is utterly disappointed following their elimination from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana’s campaign in Costa Rica came to a bitter end after a 4-1 loss to the Netherlands in the final group game.

It came after defeats to the United States and Japan as they finished bottom of Group D with zero points and scored one from three games.

Ghana failed to make it out of the group stages in all six editions of the World Cup they have played since their debut in 2010.

After the final game, Fokuo who revealed that plans to progress to the next stage had failed, believes the team will work hard to compete in the next edition.

“This is the sixth time we have not been able to qualify from the group stage and it is very worrying,” he said as quoted by the Ghana FA.

“When we were coming to this competition for the sixth time, we decided to make sure that we qualify from the group stage for the first time and later progress from the quarter-final but it is unfortunate we lost all three matches and are out of the competition.”

He also added that the team will return to Ghana and turn attention to the next edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

‘’We did our preparations and worked hard towards the competition but things didn’t go as planned.

‘’We will work hard and try again in the next edition and hopefully, the team will make it past the group stage for the first time.”

U-20 WWC: Ghana won’t make it past group stage – Head Coach https://www.adomonline.com/u-20-wwc-ghana-wont-make-it-past-group-stage-head-coach/ Wed, 17 Aug 2022 08:54:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2150221 Head coach of Black Princesses, Ben Fokuo, has dismissed any chances of his team progressing to the knock-out stage of the U-20 Women’s World Cup after two successive defeats.

Ghana lost 3-0 to the USA in the opening game in Costa Rica before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of defending champions, Japan.

However, the team still has a slim chance of making to the next phase, only if they beat Netherlands by a huge goal margin and Japan see off USA in the last group game.

“It is unfortunate we lost our second group game which means for the 6th attempt, we won’t make it past the group stage,” Fokuo said, quoted by Joy Sports.

“Our first half performance was better than the second half. We started the second half on a better note until we conceded the penalty which I think pushed the girls down a little bit.

“We conceded another penalty and it is unfortunate to concede through a penalty but I think we played better than our first game.

“We wanted to go at least to the quarter-finals but that didn’t happen. It is sad not to make it this time again so we will go back and work hard so that in the next edition, we will try our best to make it from the group stage,” he added.

Ghana will slug it out with Netherlands in their last group game on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.
