The 20-year-old winger spent the 2024/25 season on loan at the Eredivisie club, gaining valuable top-flight and European experience.

Feyenoord confirmed Osman’s departure in an official statement after their final match of the season against Heerenveen.

During a post-season event at their training complex, 1908, the club expressed appreciation to Osman and fellow loanees Hugo Bueno and Facundo González for their contributions throughout the campaign.

Osman made 32 appearances in all competitions for Feyenoord, scoring four goals and registering three assists.

His time in Rotterdam included highlights such as winning the Johan Cruyff Shield and helping the team reach the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

Having started his European career with Danish side FC Nordsjælland, Osman now returns to Brighton, aiming to break into Roberto De Zerbi’s first-team plans for the upcoming Premier League season.

At the international level, Osman has already made two appearances for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

Inter march into quarters as Thuram hits stunner https://www.adomonline.com/inter-march-into-quarters-as-thuram-hits-stunner/ Tue, 11 Mar 2025 23:01:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2513800 Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri triumphed over Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord thanks to goals on the night from Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Inter came into this second leg in a terrific position after winning the first leg 2-0 in the Netherlands and their night got a whole lot easier after eight minutes when Thuram cut in from the right-hand side before rifling a terrific effort past Timon Wellenreuther.

Feyenoord cut the aggregate deficit from three goals to two just before half-time when Jakub Moder converted a penalty after he had been bundled over in the box by Calhanoglu, making it the first time Inter had conceded a home goal in the competition this season.

The referee pointed to the spot once again just six minutes into the second half, this time in Inter’s favour and Calhanoglu was on hand to fire his penalty home into the bottom corner to restore the Nerazzurri’s three-goal aggregate lead.

Feyenoord continued to push forward in search of a goal but Inzaghi’s resolute and stubborn Inter held firm to coast into the quarter-finals.

Van Persie appointed head coach of Feyenoord https://www.adomonline.com/van-persie-appointed-head-coach-of-feyenoord/ Sun, 23 Feb 2025 13:55:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2507666 Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been appointed as Feyenoord’s new head coach.

The 41-year-old, who retired from playing in 2019, has left fellow Dutch side Heerenveen to take charge of the club he had two spells at as a player, making 122 appearances for them and scoring 46 goals.

Van Persie was also assistant coach at Feyenoord under Dick Advocaat and worked with their youth teams before taking charge of Heerenveen in May last year.

The former Netherlands international leaves the club ninth in the Eredivisie after winning seven of his 23 games in charge.

Van Persie has signed a contract until 2027 and will be assisted by Rene Hake, who was previously part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United.

“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is,” he said.

“I am enormously looking forward, together with a strong staff, to working with the player group.”

Feyenoord are third in table and 11 points behind leaders Ajax. They dismissed Dane Brian Priske last week after a run of one win in six league games.

Priske had succeeded Arne Slot last summer after the Dutchman left to join Liverpool.

Van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal from 2004 and helped them to win the FA Cup before joining Manchester United in 2012 where he won the Premier League in his first season at the club.

‘We are delighted that with Robin van Persie we can appoint a true club icon as the new coach of Feyenoord,” said general manager Dennis te Kloese.

“Robin knows the club incredibly well and knows exactly what is needed to achieve results.”

10-man Milan out of Champions League as Feyenoord produce huge shock https://www.adomonline.com/10-man-milan-out-of-champions-league-as-feyenoord-produce-huge-shock/ Tue, 18 Feb 2025 20:23:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2506015 Feyenoord defied the odds to hold Milan to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off and advance 2-1 on aggregate, aided by a brainless red card for Theo Hernandez.

Santiago Gimenez hit five for Feyenoord in the league phase but now in Rossoneri, the Mexican pulled the hosts level in the tie within 40 seconds from an expertly crafted set-piece play involving Christian Pulisic and Malick Thiaw as Milan dominated the first half in stark contrast to the first leg.

However, despite Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Joao Felix carving injury-depleted Feyenoord open at will at times in the first-half, Milan couldn’t find that all-important second goal to take control of the tie as the visitors grimly hung on through a determined rearguard action led by captain David Hancko.

And having been booked just before half-time for lashing out at an opponent, Hernandez gave the Club on the Meuse an avenue back into the contest when he hurled himself to the San Siro turf after a textbook Givairo Read tackle didn’t touch the Frenchman.

With their eleven starters boasting an average age of just 23, Feyenoord didn’t need a second invitation and quickly took control of the game culminating in a headed goal from substitute (and Gimenez’s former understudy at De Kuip) Julian Carranza from an inch-perfect cross, meaning they will face Arsenal or Inter Milan for a place in the quarter-finals.

UCL play-offs: Paixao scores winner as Feyenoord stun Milan in front of raucous crowd https://www.adomonline.com/ucl-play-offs-paixao-scores-winner-as-feyenoord-stun-milan-in-front-of-raucous-crowd/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 23:13:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503868 AC Milan must overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie with Feyenoord at the San Siro, after slipping to a narrow defeat in Rotterdam on Wednesday night.

On a night where the Serie A giants were far from their best, it was ultimately a goalkeeping howler that decided the tie.

Amid the backdrop of lashing rain, the greasy surface got the better of Mike Maignan, as Igor Paixao’s seemingly innocuous strike from range was palmed into the net just three minutes in.

Feyenoord endured the worst-possible preparation for the crucial European tie, sacking their manager Brian Priske and appointing under-21 coach Pascal Bosschaart as interim – who confessed before the match to not knowing the squad “at all”.

But the hosts ultimately bossed their Italian counterparts, with Paixao getting the better of Kyle Walker to force numerous dangerous chances – notably also hitting the crossbar from range after cutting in from the left.

Feyenoord ultimately looked the more likely to further their advantage, but could not find a clinical edge – though will be more than happy with a slender victory given their 12 absentees through injury.

Bayern stunned by Feyenoord to dent qualification hopes https://www.adomonline.com/bayern-stunned-by-feyenoord-to-dent-qualification-hopes/ Wed, 22 Jan 2025 22:41:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2496060 Bayern Munich’s hopes of qualifying directly to the Champions League knockouts were dealt a blow as they were stunned by Feyenoord.

The top eight in the league phase progress automatically to the next stage and a win for Bayern would have ensured they were almost there with one game to go.

The game was suspended for several minutes just after kick-off as smoke from flares made visibility on the pitch difficult.

Once it got back under way, however, Bayern looked lethargic and fell behind midway through the first half when Santiago Gimenez drove into the box before firing past Manuel Neuer.

Feyenoord keeper Justin Bijlow produced a great close-range save to deny Harry Kane a equaliser and it was crucial as the hosts added a second on the stroke of half time.

Calvin Stengs was fouled inside the box and Gimenez stepped up to confidently score the penalty.

The excellent Bijlow made a fingertip save to deny Jamal Musiala in the second half as Bayern pushed to get back into the game, but Feyenoord made sure of victory with a late third as Ayase Ueda slotted in.

The result means Bayern are 15th in the standings, one point outside the top eight with Slovan Bratislava the visitors in their final league phase game next Wednesday.

The win for Feyenoord boosted their own chances of finishing in the top eight as the Dutch side, who travel to Lille next Wednesday, are up to 11th place but level on 13 points with eighth-placed Leverkusen.

CL: Man City throw away 3-0 lead to draw with Feyenoord https://www.adomonline.com/cl-man-city-throw-away-3-0-lead-to-draw-with-feyenoord/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 22:44:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2476084 Manchester City suffered a remarkable UEFA Champions League capitulation as they conceded three second-half goals to sacrifice a dominant position and draw 3-3 with Feyenoord at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side had opened the scoring shortly before the interval when Erling Haaland converted from the spot, and looked to be cruising when quick-fire strikes at the start of the second half from Ilkay Gundogan and Haaland put the Premier League champions 3-0 up.

But, after Guardiola had made a trio of changes to rest Gundogan, Phil Foden and Nathan Ake, City fell apart in the second half.

An error by Josko Gvardiol saw the full-back play a no-look pass to Anis Hadj-Moussa, who took full advantage to score what initially appeared to be merely a consolation.

A rejuvenated Feyenoord further punished a lacklustre City late on, as substitute Santiago Gimenez made it 3-2 with a close-range finish before David Hancko finished off a terrific move to earn Feyenoord the unlikeliest of draws.

The result means City have won just two of their five UEFA Champions League games this season, leaving them at significant risk of missing out on one of the eight automatic qualification spots for the knockout stage.

UCL: Girona score two own goals and miss penalty in loss to Feyenoord https://www.adomonline.com/ucl-girona-score-two-own-goals-and-miss-penalty-in-loss-to-feyenoord/ Wed, 02 Oct 2024 22:02:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2456034 Girona scored two own goals and missed a penalty as they fell to a narrow defeat in their first Champions League home match.

The Spanish side took the lead through 34-year-old defender David Lopez in the 19th minute, but were pegged back four minutes later when Quinten Timber’s header deflected in off Girona midfielder Yangel Herrera.

Teenager Antoni Milambo put Feyenoord 2-1 ahead in the 33rd minute and the Dutch side were given a penalty moments later for a foul on Timber, but goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga denied Ayase Ueda from the spot.

In the second half Girona had a goal disallowed and were then gifted a penalty of their own after Timon Wellenreuther fouled Bojan Miovski in the box, but the Feyenoord keeper redeemed himself to save the former Aberdeen forward’s spot-kick.

Donny van de Beek equalised for the hosts, scoring his first goal for the club since joining from Manchester United in the summer.

But Girona were denied a first point in the competition after their defender Ladislav Krejci turned Igor Paixao’s 79th-minute cross into his own net.

Girona also lost to Paris St-Germain in their Champions League opener after a 90th-minute own goal.

With three they equalled Fenerbahce’s record for most own goals in a single Champions League season, but became the first side to net an own goal in each of their first two games in the competition.

UCL: Wirtz nets twice as Leverkusen defeat Feyenoord https://www.adomonline.com/ucl-wirtz-nets-twice-as-leverkusen-defeat-feyenoord/ Thu, 19 Sep 2024 18:00:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2451259 Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen scored four times in a stunning first half as they won 4-0 against Feyenoord in their opening Champions League tie.

Xabi Alonso’s side made history with their first-ever Bundesliga title last season, going unbeaten in the process.

They travelled to Rotterdam for their first match in the Champions League’s new format, and star forward Florian Wirtz opened the scoring with an accurate, low shot from the edge of the box after just five minutes.

Leverkusen have already suffered one loss in the Bundesliga this season, but it was business as usual on their return to Europe as Alejandro Grimaldo finished off a typically smart passing move to double the lead after 30 minutes.

It took just six more minutes for Leverkusen to go 3-0 up as Wirtz clipped in a cross at the back post for his brace.

Timon Wellenreuther then put through his own net just before the end of the first half to leave the Dutch side well adrift.

With the result almost guaranteed, neither side were able to add to the scoreline in the remaining 45 after the restart.

In the other early kick-off, Crvena Zvezda and Benfica met in Serbia with Benfica coming away with a 2-1 win.

Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu put the away side ahead with a close-range finish at the far post after nine minutes, and just before the half-hour mark, Orkun Kokcu scored with an outstanding free-kick to double the advantage.

Milson pulled one back on 86 minutes to give Benfica a nervy few minutes, but they ultimately came away with three points.

Feyenoord v Ajax postponed because of police strikes https://www.adomonline.com/feyenoord-v-ajax-postponed-because-of-police-strikes/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 10:52:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2440421 Sunday’s Dutch top-flight match between Feyenoord and Ajax has been postponed because of a police strike in the Netherlands.

Police officers were injured during crowd disorder at a match between the sides last September.

Home fans threw flares and fireworks on the pitch at Ajax’s stadium in Amsterdam after Feyenoord went 3-0 ahead and the match was stopped after 56 minutes.

The match was eventually concluded three days later behind closed doors.

Police said they would not work at Sunday’s game as part of an ongoing campaign related to early retirement regulations.

‘The Klassieker’ was scheduled to take place at the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam.

But the city’s mayor, Ahmed Aboutaleb, said: “The safety of the players, but also of the public, cannot be sufficiently guaranteed without the use of the police.”

Away fans have been banned from attending matches between the two sides in Rotterdam for several years after previous incidents of disorder.

Feyenoord said they “understand that people have to stand up for their cause, but regret that football, not for the first time, is being used as a tool”.

Arne Slot appointed as new Liverpool manager https://www.adomonline.com/arne-slot-appointed-as-new-liverpool-manager/ Mon, 20 May 2024 16:30:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2397464 Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has been confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager.

The Reds agreed a compensation deal worth £9.4m with the Dutch club in April after the 45-year-old was identified as the man to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Klopp, who had been in charge of Liverpool since October 2015, left the club following their season-finale win against Wolves on Sunday.

Slot will officially start at Liverpool on 1 June, subject to a work permit.

The Dutchman led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, while this season they have won the Dutch Cup and finished second in the league.

It is believed that the attacking style of Slot’s teams, his personality and his ability to develop players were key factors in making him Liverpool’s top choice for the job.

Slot took over as Feyenoord manager in 2021 and confirmed his interest in managing in the Premier League when he was linked with Tottenham in 2023.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who guided Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title this season, was also linked with the position at Anfield.

But the 42-year-old Spaniard ended speculation in March when he said he would remain with Leverkusen for the time being.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim was also reported to have been a contender to take over from Klopp, who announced in January he would leave Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Arne Slot confirms he will replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool boss https://www.adomonline.com/arne-slot-confirms-he-will-replace-jurgen-klopp-as-liverpool-boss/ Fri, 17 May 2024 16:09:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2396472 Feyenoord coach Arne Slot has confirmed he will replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.

Klopp has been in charge of the Reds since October 2015 but is leaving at the end of the season after a reign that has seen him win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and two EFL Cups.

After Klopp’s announcement in January, several managers were considered leading contenders, but in April BBC Sport learned that Slot was set to get the job after a compensation deal worth up to £9.4m was agreed with Feyenoord.

“I can confirm that I will become the trainer there next year,” Slot said on Friday.

“Until now I was not thinking about this being the build-up to my last match, but that starts coming now. At the beginning of the week you are thinking about training and those kind of things.

“But the feeling gets stronger now. That is why I’m a little bit late now [for the news conference], because I wanted to say goodbye to some people personally and take time for them, more than just shaking hands.

“I understand that good results help, but it is very nice to feel that people really are thinking it’s a pity that I’m leaving.”

Slot’s final game at Feyenoord after three years in charge will be Sunday’s Eredivisie home match with Excelsior.

Klopp’s time at Liverpool ends on the same day with a home Premier League game against Wolves.

Feyenoord confirmed the 45-year-old’s departure on social media, saying: “The Arne Slot era is coming to an end. Let’s enjoy the last moments.”

Liverpool have not commented on the announcement.

Arne Slot a leading candidate to succeed Klopp https://www.adomonline.com/arne-slot-a-leading-candidate-to-succeed-klopp/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 09:39:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385195 Feyenoord’s Arne Slot is a leading candidate to take over as Liverpool manager from Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp announced in January he would leave Anfield at the end of the season and the Reds have been conducting extensive research around a number of candidates.

The 45-year-old, who led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, has emerged as a candidate who fits Liverpool’s criteria.

Feyenoord have won the Dutch Cup this season and are second in the Eredivisie.

The decision to appoint Slot has not been made but he has become a strong candidate to succeed Klopp.

He was linked with Leeds United after they sacked manager Jesse Marsch, while Slot also ruled himself out of contention for the Tottenham Hotspur job last summer before Ange Postecoglou took over.

Slot then extended his contract with Feyenoord until 2026.

At the time he was being linked with Spurs, he said: “The next step will not be another club in Holland. If that is the next step, I’ve failed completely in the upcoming few years.

“A normal next step would be to go abroad and I’ve always said that the best league in the world is the Premier League.”

The attacking style of Slot, who is also thought to be interesting Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and his ability to develop players are believed to appeal to Liverpool.

Slot became Feyenoord head coach in December 2020 after leaving AZ Alkmaar, where he enjoyed success in his first managerial position.

The former midfielder spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands, making more than 100 appearances for both FC Zwolle and NAC Breda.

Xabi Alonso was linked with the Anfield job but the former Reds midfielder announced in March he would stay on at Bayer Leverkusen, who have since become German champions.

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim was another name heavily linked but he is believed to have fallen out of the running.

Ajax v Feyenoord to be completed behind closed doors on Wednesday https://www.adomonline.com/ajax-v-feyenoord-to-be-completed-behind-closed-doors-on-wednesday/ Tue, 26 Sep 2023 09:50:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2298307 The abandoned match between Eredivisie rivals Ajax and Feyenoord will resume behind closed doors on Wednesday, the Dutch FA (KNVB) has confirmed.

Feyenoord led 3-0 after 56 minutes at the Johan Cruyff Arena when the game was stopped as home fans threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch.

The match will be completed at 14:00 local time with no supporters present.

Ajax’s match against FC Volendam, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed.

In a statement, Ajax said they disagree with the decision to finish the game on Wednesday on fixture congestion grounds and are considering legal action.

The Amsterdam side say the earliest the match should be resumed is during the first week of November, adding that Volendam’s participation in the first round of the KNVB Cup at the end of October further complicates matters.

“The competition and cup program is now being adjusted by the KNVB for four clubs due to the completion of an abandoned match. Not only the clubs but also the supporters are victims of this,” Ajax said.

Volendam also disagreed with the KNVB’s decision to postpone their game and said they will “investigate what the club’s rights are”.

In a statement of their own the KNVB said the game had to be resumed as soon as possible in order to maintain the integrity of the league.

“The basic principle is that the competition must be as fair as possible and that a match should therefore preferably be decided on the field. The match must then be resumed as soon as possible,” it read.

The match between the two most fierce rivals in the Netherlands is known as De Klassieker and had already been paused twice before it was eventually postponed when flares and fireworks landed on the pitch.

A sign on the big screen at the ground had reminded Ajax fans that the “lighting of fireworks is prohibited” but the message was ignored by a section of supporters.

Trouble continued after the game was called off with police using tear gas on fans outside the stadium.

Amsterdam police said that some of the home supporters tried to break back into the ground.

Feyenoord’s players and staff had to stay in their dressing room until it was safe to leave. The visitors had not been allowed to have fans at the game.

Ajax, the 36-times Dutch champions, apologised for the behaviour of their supporters, while coach Maurice Steijn called it “a jet black day” for the club.

They are a lowly 14th in the 18-team Eredivisie table as things stand, and failed to qualify for this season’s Uefa Champions League after finishing third in 2022-23, 13 points behind champions Feyenoord.

Visitors Feyenoord led 3-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena when the game was called off, having already been paused twice.

There was a break when a plastic cup was thrown onto the pitch at 2-0, and another for fireworks at 3-0, before a third offence forced an early halt.

“This type of behaviour is not a part of Ajax,” said a club statement.

Trouble continued after the game, known as De Klassieker, was called off with police using tear gas to stop rioting fans outside the stadium.

Amsterdam police said that some of the home supporters tried to break into the ground.

Feyenoord’s players and staff had to stay in their dressing room for some time until it was safe to leave. They had not been allowed to have fans at the game.

Ajax coach Maurice Steijn said: “It is a jet black day, this makes it even worse.”

The club’s statement added: “Ajax’s management and supervisory board distance themselves from the misconduct that led to the suspension of the match against Feyenoord and the disturbances afterwards.

“Disappointment about the season’s poor start is understandable but can never be the cause of disorderly conduct. We apologise to everyone who has felt unsafe or has been affected in any other way.”

Ajax, the 36-times Dutch champions, have only won once in four completed league games this season and sit in 13th place two points above the relegation places.

The Eredivisie said “more information about how to complete this match will follow later”.

Santiago Gimenez scored twice for Feyenoord and Igor Paixao added a third which triggered an initial reaction from home supporters.

“It is especially annoying that this match ends like this,” said Feyenoord boss Arne Slot. “The chance for something very beautiful is taken away from us.

“We understand the decision that has been taken, but we do not feel a sense of victory and we certainly won’t get on the bus satisfied.”

A sign on the big screen at the ground had reminded Ajax fans that the “lighting of fireworks is prohibited” but the message was ignored by a section of supporters.

Ajax finished third last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 13 seasons as Feyenoord won the title.

Director of general affairs Jan van Halst said: “We currently have no clarity about how this match will be handled. We are particularly disappointed that this match turned out this way. This is very hard on the entire organisation.

“It is one of the most important matches in Dutch football and it has been stopped. That is extremely sad.

“It is a bad start to the season. We understand the disappointment. But to express it through this behaviour, we disapprove.”

Tottenham: Arne Slot rules himself out of contention for Spurs job https://www.adomonline.com/tottenham-arne-slot-rules-himself-out-of-contention-for-spurs-job/ Thu, 25 May 2023 09:43:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2253316 Arne Slot says he wants to stay as Feyenoord manager – ruling himself out of contention for the Tottenham job.

The 44-year-old Dutchman had been heavily linked with a move to Spurs after Antonio Conte’s sacking in March.

Slot, who led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, held talks with the Rotterdam-based club on Wednesday about a potential extension to his contract.

“I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other interest in me,” said Slot.

“Although I am thankful, my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.

“There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.”

After Conte’s sacking, Cristian Stellini was appointed Spurs interim manager but was dismissed after four games.

Ryan Mason took over as interim boss for a second spell, having previously held the role briefly at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Eighth-place Spurs have since taken just four points from six matches, and play relegation-threatened Leeds in their final game of the campaign on Sunday.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was previously linked with a move to Tottenham, but they did not hold talks with the German.

They did approach Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, according to journalist Guillem Balague, and were linked with Burnley manager Vincent Kompany before he signed a new deal with the Championship winners.

Kudus Mohammed suffers injury in Ajax Cup win over Feyenoord https://www.adomonline.com/kudus-mohammed-suffers-injury-in-ajax-cup-win-over-feyenoord/ Thu, 06 Apr 2023 09:31:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2236912 Ghana forward, Mohammed Kudus has suffered an injury in a Dutch cup game against rivals, Feyenoord.

Ajax recorded a 2-1 win over Feyenoord at the Duip stadium in the semifinal clash on Wednesday night.

Dusan Tadic opened the scoring account on the 14th minute. Santiago Gimenez got the leveller before Davy Klassen sealed the win just six minutes into the second half.

The 22-year-old started the game but then picked up what looked like a muscle injury before being substituted on the 60th-minute mark.

He was replaced by Portugal’s Francisco Conceicao.

It is not clear the extent of the injury or whether the Black Stars player was only substituted as a precaution. But he went down, clutching his hamstring.

Kudus is enjoying his most prolific season yet, with 18 goals in 38 games so far, while contributing 4 assists.

Victory for Ajax has set up a final meeting with PSV Eindhoven on 30th April, 2023.

AS Roma beats Feyenoord to win Conference League title https://www.adomonline.com/as-roma-beats-feyenoord-to-win-conference-league-title/ Wed, 25 May 2022 22:41:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2118395 Roma have won the Europa Conference League final, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana.

Jose Mourinho arrived at the Arena Kombetare chasing his fifth European title, having won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, the UEFA Cup with Porto and the Europa League with Manchester United. His team delivered, with the Giallorossi winning their first European trophy since the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1972.

Feyenoord made a fast start to the match, winning the ball high up the pitch, playing on the front foot and driving forwards through Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson. Still, while they established a stranglehold on possession, they struggled to make meaningful chances and, after 20 minutes, neither side had mustered up a shot.

Roma gradually found their feet, Lorenzo Pellegrini pushing and probing as Tammy Abraham galloped about in search of a through-ball. When they opened the scoring in the 32nd minute it still felt like a bolt from the blue, however, not least because it came from their first shot of the match.

Playing on the right side of Roma’s back three, Gianluca Mancini floated a diagonal ball into the box from deep and picked out Nicolo Zaniolo. He showed fantastic close control to chest the ball down and flick it over Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow as he rushed off his line in an attempt to smother the shot.

Feyenoord upped the tempo, Orkun Kokcu testing Rui Patricio with a swerving shot from distance, but Roma soaked up the pressure until the break. It became clear right from the restart that the second half would be much more uncomfortable for Mourinho’s side, Mancini almost scoring an own goal under pressure from Gernot Trauner only to be saved by the woodwork.

The goal frame was left shuddering again moments later, Rui Patricio pushing a thunderbolt from Tyrell Malacia onto the post. Feyenoord were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men when Marcos Senesi subtly impeded Abraham as he got in behind, dragging him back by the arm, but neither the referee, Istvan Kovacs, nor VAR thought it was worthy of a red card.

A slip from Chris Smalling almost allowed Cyriel Dessers to go one-on-one, but Roger Ibanez made a fantastic covering tackle to deny him. At the other end, Bijlow did well to keep out Jordan Veretout.

Roma were pinned back in their final third for the last 20 minutes but, despite several scares, they held firm and saw out the match. It will go down as a Mourinho masterclass and, despite a topsy-turvy debut season with the Giallorossi, he has duly written himself into Roma folklore.
