The call was made during the celebration of the party’s 72nd Anniversary in Kumasi.

Madam Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankoma, Leader and Chairperson of CPP, addressing the youth at the event, called on the current government to go beyond the free Senior High School mantra and create jobs for the youth.

She said the government’s One-District, One-Factory initiative would remain a fiasco until a conscious effort is made to revive all factories built by CPP government under Dr Nkrumah.

Madam Kumankoma added that truncating CPP’s government in 1966 has resulted in today’s lack of political direction, the endemic poverty, the lack of decent accommodation, the lack of jobs, the hardship, the total collapse of the economy, the persistent youth agitation and the lack of trust in political leaders.

“If this very pencil factory and many others built by Nkrumah across the country but deliberately abandoned and left to rot were functional, millions of youth would have been actively working and that means they would be able to feed themselves and their families,” she stated.

Nana Yaa Jantua, General Secretary of CPP, also called on the youth to rally behind the party as it was prepared to take over the management of the economy come 2024.

NDC built over 1,000 factories under Mahama – Spio-Garbrah https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-built-over-1000-factories-under-mahama-spio-garbrah/ Tue, 07 Jan 2020 06:58:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1738655 Former Minister of Trades and Industry Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under John Dramani Mahama built more factories than known.

He cites how most of the factories secured funding and support from government agencies like the National Board for Small-Scale Industries, Export Development Bank as well as Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

He said the New Patriotic Party’s One-District One Factory Programme pales in comparison to the over 1,000 factories created under former President Mahama.

“If you are trying to look at whoever built factories and employed people, we did far more than anything the NPP has done so far,” he told 3news.com’s Komla Klutse on the sidelines of the 31st December commemoration in Winneba, Central Region last week.

He said the difference between what happened under the NDC and what is happening under the NPP “is branding and sloganeering difference”.

“If it is a matter of bragging, we could have bragged over 1,000 factories.

“More than 1,000 factories were created in the last Mahama administration. NPP had the slogan for it, which of course people can remember. NDC did not have a slogan for it.”
