Former Ghana captain, John Mensah has revealed that he has found a new calling since retiring from professional football seven years ago.

The former Stade Rennes and Sunderland defender who played a pivotal role in Ghana’s impressive 2010 World Cup journey has transitioned into a role of spiritual leadership.

“I’m just keeping myself in the church all the time, so I’m always visiting the church because I’m not on the field anymore so that’s how I’m keeping myself cool,” John said at the Ghana Football Awards ceremony.

“My church is Resurrection Power New Generation Church. I keep my feet to the God Almighty to worship Him well and also advise my people and also to do evangelism to my people to also know God very well,” he added.

During his illustrious career, Mensah represented Ghana 86 times, netting three goals.

He was instrumental in Ghana’s historic qualification for the 2006 World Cup and their remarkable quarter final appearance in 2010.

The accused person, evangelist Samuel Ofosu, resides at Akyem Kukurantumi while the victim (name withheld) is a trader and resides in Koforidua.

The Prosecuting Officer, Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio, told the court that, on August 6, 2021, the accused invited the victim to his house to assist him to prepare for his mother’s funeral.

On August 8, 2021, at about 7:00 pm the victim went to the accused person’s house with her two children aged seven and 10.

A few hours later, the evangelist asked the victim if she often suffers headaches which she answered in the affirmative.

Pay me for using ‘bobolebobo’ – Evangelist IK Aning to NDC https://www.adomonline.com/pay-me-for-using-bobolebobo-evangelist-ik-aning-to-ndc/ https://www.adomonline.com/pay-me-for-using-bobolebobo-evangelist-ik-aning-to-ndc/#comments Wed, 21 Nov 2018 06:54:32 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1496871

Singer of popular gospel song “bobolebobo”, Evangelist IK Aning, has called on Former President John Dramani Mahama to compensate him for adopting his beat and words in the making of the Mahama version of the song.

His demands follow the use of “bobolebobo” in a campaign song for the former president that was played to climax the National Democratic Congress (NDC), 9th Delegate congress in Accra.

According to him, he was not consulted in the making of the Mahama version of the song and that the singer violated the copyright laws, hence the need to pay him some royalty.

“I have spent money on the song, so if you want the song, you should have informed me for us to sit and share the cost before you go ahead with your version.
My beat and words were adopted for the Mahama version, and the artiste who did that will surely be paid, so he needs to also give me something that I can use to produce another song” he told Akwasi Nsiah on Anopa Kasapa.

According to him, although he considers pursuing the case at the law court, his faith practically limits him in how far he can litigate the matter.

He said: “I will plead with Mahama to compensate me, I won’t use force but even the platform on which the song was played is huge and it has hyped the song. He has really helped me, because now people will start looking for the original song to play”.

Evangelist in grips of Police for disturbing public peace https://www.adomonline.com/evangelist-grips-police-disturbing-public-peace/ https://www.adomonline.com/evangelist-grips-police-disturbing-public-peace/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2018 10:10:33 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=986711 The Police in Sunyani on Monday arrested an evangelist for breaching the Public Order Act on noise making.
Evangelist Alexander Ahiave, 32, was arrested around 1000 hours while he was preaching the word of God through a Public Address System behind the Sunyani central roundabout.
The Police said he had no operational permit.
A large crowd rushed to the scene to catch glimpse of the Evangelist Ahiave when he was hand-cuffed by a Police Officer and forced into a waiting taxi.
The Section One of the Public Order Act 1994 (ACT 491) states that “any person who desires to hold any special event in any public place shall notify the Police of his intention not less than 5 days before the date of the special event”.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency Superintendent Stella Sedame, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, confirmed the arrest and warned evangelists who have not obtained permit to do so or face the full rigours of the law.
She expressed worry about the influx of “self-styled” evangelists who had flooded the streets of the regional capital, causing public nuisance.
“The law is no respecter of persons”, Superintendent Sedame said, adding that the Police was in the position to ensure that the law was enforced to the letter to safeguard public safety.

‘Evangelist’ in court for swindling fiancée of GH¢165,000 https://www.adomonline.com/evangelist-court-swindling-fiancee-gh%c2%a2165000/ Tue, 18 Jul 2017 07:47:15 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=305991 A self-styled evangelist is facing the law for allegedly swindling his fiancée of GH¢165,000.
The accused, Solomon Yidana, was on Monday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Ekow Mensah, to answer a charge of defrauding by false pretence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢165,000 with three sureties.
Yidana would be making his next appearance on Monday, July 24.
Police Inspector Eric Asante said the complainant, Bernice Kennedy, runs her own business in the gold mining town of Obuasi and is the fiancée of the accused.
In September, last year, the woman told Yidana of her decision to buy a Mercedes Benz GL450 vehicle, and he convinced her that he could get that for her from a car dealer in Togo.
The prosecution said Bernice went ahead to give the money to him but he could not deliver the car.
Left with no option, she made a formal report to the police on June 26, and he was arrested.
