He has dared persons with evidence of his involvement in galamsey to prove, to come forward with it.

Mr Ewusi was suspended as the NPP Central Regional Vice Chairman and arrested by CID in February 2020 for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of some excavators seized from illegal miners in the country.

This was on the back of the revelation by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and also Chairperson for the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), that some of the excavators which were seized from illegal miners between 2017 and 2018 had vanished.

The Minister indicated that he[Ekow Ewusi] had sold an unknown number of the pieces of equipment including excavators, in a letter requesting the CID boss to investigate Mr Awusi.

However, Mr Ewusi on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme categorically denied all allegations.

He said he is ready to put his candidacy on the line if any there is any evidence against him.

“I have said it on several platforms before and I repeat it today that if there is only person who can say I seized their excavator and sold it or I’m involved in galamsey, I will stepped down as a parliamentary candidate. I will not contest the election again,” he stated.

Mr Ewusi is contesting against Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, who is the incumbent MP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.

Dr Nyarku in 2020 polled 22,972 votes, snatching the seat from the NPP’s Barbara Ayisi who obtained 21,643 votes.

However, Ekow Ewusi who is the former NPP Central Regional Vice Chairman has expressed confidence that, he will emerge victorious and win back the seat.

According to him, the grounds look fertile in his favour and there is no doubt he is the people’s favourite.

He made the declaration on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday.

“I don’t want it to seem like I’m blowing my own trumpet but the signs are clear on the ground. If I win with less than 55% votes, I will resign, in fact I won’t even accept the results. I will ask for a fresh election,” he stated.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Thursday, Ekow Ewusi said he has nothing to do with the destruction which Dr Nyarku says include 16 billboards and about 25,000 posters.

He indicated that, he has no reason to launch such an attack on the MP, who is also his contender in the December 7 parliamentary election.

According to him, his 15 billboards and 800 posters have also been destroyed by unknown persons.

“I have already won the election so why would I do this?  Why would he even lie that he has 25,000 posters? Will the posters of the presidential candidate nationwide even reach 25,000?

“I reached out to him that we should address and concern the act of vandalism and if we did, the issues wouldn’t have escalated to this point,” he stated.

The NPP PC further condemned the vandalism, adding he will not hesitate to hand over anybody caught destroying campaign materials for prosecution irrespective of their political affiliation.

Dr Nyarku, who is the incumbent MP is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) PC for the December 7 election.

In what has turned out to be a peaceful electioneering activities, Ragga as he is popularly called said he was shocked when he discovered his 16 billboards and 25,000 posters across the constituency have been destroyed.

“When the incident happened on Tuesday, I tried to reach him but it couldn’t go through. It was later in the day on Wednesday, he called me. To me, I see this as a retaliation because he told me NDC supporters sometime ago destroyed his materials but he didn’t complain,” he stated.

But in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Thursday, Ragga said he will not be surprised that his contender destroyed his own posters and billboards to court sympathy.

Where do you live? – NPP former chairman questions Gyakye Quayson’s residence at Assin North https://www.adomonline.com/where-do-you-live-npp-former-chairman-questions-gyakye-quaysons-residence-at-assin-north/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 16:49:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2264981 As the Assin North bye-election approaches, concerns have been raised by Ekow Ewusi, the former Central Regional Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), regarding James Gyakye Quayson, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Ewusi has highlighted the worries of constituents who question Mr Quayson’s absence and apparent lack of connection with the people.

Mr Ewusi emphasised the significance of accessibility and genuine concern for the constituents, stating that many people were unaware of Mr Quayson’s place of residence, making it difficult for them to reach out and communicate their grievances.

This lack of visibility has raised doubts about Mr Quayson’s dedication to serving the people of Assin North.

He stated, “constituents feel neglected and unheard after going to the grounds and speaking, and trust me, they can’t have an MP who doesn’t even have a place here. Where does Quayson live?”

Mr Ewusi further emphasised the importance of a strong connection between elected representatives and the people they serve.

“There is a missing connection between Mr Quayson and the people of Assin North. He is a missing in action MP,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show Monday.

According to him, an elected representative should be readily available to listen to the problems faced by the people and work towards finding solutions.

“Without a known office or residence, the NDC candidate seems elusive, leaving the constituents feeling disconnected and overlooked,” Mr Ewusi added.

Mr Ewusi pointed out that the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku, has already established a strong presence within the constituency.

“Charles Opoku’s familiarity and engagement with the people made him a notable figure, and his popularity grew steadily,” he added.

The bye-election at Assin North holds great significance for the constituents, as it represents a pivotal moment in shaping the future of Assin North and Ghana as a whole.
