The case, currently before the Donyina Court, was filed by Genevieve Osei Boateng, whom he married in 1999 and with whom he has four children.

According to Akwasi Boateng, the couple has been estranged for nearly five years, yet his ex-wife now claims that the property was constructed shortly after their marriage, making her entitled to half.

He says the claim has left him stunned, as the house was funded entirely through his earnings as a musician. Throughout the marriage, he says he provided extensive support for his wife, including financing her travel abroad and purchasing vehicles for her.

Akwasi Boateng also noted that his ex-wife currently owns her own house, built during their separation, making her pursuit of his property even more surprising.

The gospel musician explained that he formally initiated divorce proceedings at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) after observing public discussions surrounding the late Daddy Lumba’s family dispute. He said the Lumba estate tussle prompted him to officially document his marital status to avoid future misunderstandings.

The case is ongoing.

I’d rather divorce now than be haunted after death – Edward Akwasi Boateng https://www.adomonline.com/id-rather-divorce-now-than-be-haunted-after-death-edward-akwasi-boateng/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 18:46:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588474 Ghanaian veteran gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has announced his decision to officially end his marriage, saying he wants to prevent any future legal battles over his estate after his death a situation.

His belief mirrors the ongoing dispute involving the widows of late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM, Boateng revealed plans to visit the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to initiate the divorce process.

“Looking at what’s happening, I’ve decided to go to the KMA to end my marriage, it’s worrying that after separating from your wife, when you die, she might show up to fight with your family, claiming to be the rightful wife. I won’t allow that. She left me, so I’ll take the step to legally dissolve the marriage”,he stated.

Boateng’s decision comes on the heels of years of well-documented marital challenges that severely affected him financially.

In earlier interviews, the gospel artiste disclosed that after marrying, he lost a fleet of 17 cars and all his assets.

He recounted that his wife encouraged him to live lavishly, only to abandon him after relocating to the United States. The collapse of the marriage left him in financial distress, struggling at times to provide basic needs such as school fees for his children.

I’ll take Diana Asamoah’s advice and drive Uber – Edward Akwasi Boateng https://www.adomonline.com/ill-take-diana-asamoahs-advice-and-drive-uber-edward-akwasi-boateng/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 11:56:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546924

Veteran gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has announced plans to venture into the ride-hailing business, following advice from fellow gospel artiste Diana Asamoah.

The renowned “Makoma So Ade” singer made headlines in 2024 after revealing his financial struggles, lamenting the lack of support from the gospel music community. In response to public concern, Prophet ElBernard Nelson Eshun gifted him a Toyota sedan to help ease his burden.

Diana Asamoah later advised Edward to consider using the vehicle for Uber services as a means of earning a stable income. Although her suggestion initially drew backlash and was rejected by Edward, he has since reconsidered.

Speaking in an interview with Tony Best on Akoma Mmre on Akoma FM on June 18, 2025, Edward Akwasi Boateng confirmed that he has now accepted the idea—though he plans to use a different vehicle.

“It is only a fool who does not listen to advice. I’ve accepted Diana Asamoah’s suggestion, and I plan to use the Honda gifted to me by Prophet ElBernard for Uber services,” he stated.

Edward also noted that his approach to the ride-hailing business will be unique, with a focus on high-profile clients rather than everyday commuters.

“I won’t be picking random passengers. I’ll be targeting specific clients—wedding grooms and brides, funerals, and guests at special events,” he explained.

The move marks a new chapter for the gospel icon, as he finds innovative ways to sustain himself while staying connected to the public.

Veteran gospel musician, Edward Akwasi Boateng has opened up on one of his lowest moments in life, recounting his excommunication from the Baptist Church.

This according to him was after his first girlfriend whose relationship he thought would end in marriage trapped him with a pregnancy.

Recounting the incident, Mr Boateng told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on M’ashyase3 that it was a distant relationship and he lived in Kumasi.

“I went to visit her for the first time and she deliberately dipped my shirt in water just so I could stay over. We had a sex for the first time which she informed her mother about. Three weeks later, she called to inform me that she was pregnant,” he narrated.

Badly hit by the unexpected news, the musician said they went to the hospital to terminate the pregnancy but it was revealed that it was three-months-old.

Disappointed that she couldn’t get Mr Boateng to marry her because of the pregnancy, the lady reported the incident to the church leadership and he was sanctioned.

However, the musician said he later discovered that his girlfriend was having an affair with another man who was responsible for the pregnancy but wanted to force it on him.

‘Broke’ gospel musician gives update on use of donated funds https://www.adomonline.com/broke-gospel-musician-gives-update-on-use-of-donated-funds/ Wed, 20 Mar 2024 19:04:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2371199 Renowned musician, Edward Akwasi Boateng has rendered accounts of how he is utilizing the funds generously donated to him by well-wishers.

According to him, he is currently investing in the construction of a hostel on a land adjacent to his house for students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This, he believes would be a long term investment to be self-reliant and also cater for his family.

In a widely circulated video on social media, Mr. Boateng said he will be transparent and account for every penny of the monies received as donations.

He expressed profound gratitude to those who have supported him especially Apostle Solomon Oduro and Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun for their unwavering support.

Akwasi Boateng however dispelled assertions by some of his family members that, his predicament is self-inflicted.

“They said I like taking loans, and I like taking money from women. I am none of that, so people should notice that,” he defended.

The popular gospel musician gained attention when a video of him selling his music on pen drives at a lorry park in Kumasi went viral on social media.

Stop begging – Diana Asamoah clashes with Edward Akwasi Boateng on radio https://www.adomonline.com/stop-begging-diana-asamoah-clashes-with-edward-akwasi-boateng-on-radio/ Wed, 28 Feb 2024 07:11:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2362457 A heated exchange ensued on radio between gospel musicians Diana Asamoah and Edward Akwasi Boateng.

The veteran musician took a strong exception to Ms Asamoah’s plea for him to stop begging after he was gifted a Toyota car by Prophet Bernard El Bernard.

Following his public outcry, well-wishers have made hefty donations to Akwasi Boateng to help alleviate his financial woes, settle his debts and cater for his children’s fees.

But to Diana Asamoah, that act is tantamount to begging, as she urged her colleague to invest wisely instead.

She suggested that, he use the car for Uber to generate income.

She is of the view that a gospel minister requesting for help undermines the supremacy of God, quizzing that “is he not the same person who sang that no servant of the Lord will beg for bread?”

However, her unsolicited opinion was not appreciated by Akwasi Boateng who saw it as an insult.

He expressed disappointment in Diana Asamoah and charged her to keep her unwarranted and disrespectful divine direction to herself.
