Dr. Bawumia said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Wa, Wa Naa Fuseini Rashid Pelpuo IV as he kickstarted his two-day campaign tour to the Upper West Region.

According to him, his decision forms part of advice that was given to him by the Wa Naa himself to ensure that his campaign is devoid of insults.

“The 2024 elections is important, and I am very much guided by your advice. And that advice as you have already said is what I am implementing. I am sharing my ideas to the people of Ghana without insulting anybody. Just my ideas. As to what I want to do, if by the grace of God, I am President,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia said he and his main opponent, former president Mahama are brothers and are all children of the Wa Naa.

“Myself and my main opponent are all your children. We are both from the North. And he has been president before. I haven’t been President before. So I have told him that he is my senior brother, he should have patience and wait for me to also become President,” he said.

“I have many ideas that I want to implement. I am going to focus more on farming. And how we farm help the farmers of our country,” he concluded.

Bawumia’s pledge to scrap E-Levy not for crowd-pleasing – Technical Advisor https://www.adomonline.com/bawumias-pledge-to-scrap-e-levy-not-for-crowd-pleasing-technical-advisor/ Fri, 09 Feb 2024 21:19:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2354030 The Technical Advisor at the Office of the Vice-President, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeini, has clarified that the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is not merely promising to scrap the E-Levy for popularity.

Vice-President Bawumia has made it clear that he intends to abolish the electronic transactions tax, known as the E-Levy, if elected president of Ghana.

During his national address on Wednesday, February 7, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his stance against taxes on electronic transactions, affirming his commitment to abolishing the E-Levy if elected president.

“To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will therefore be abolished,” Dr Bawumia announced.

In a subsequent interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio on Thursday, February 8, Rohullah Khomeini stated that Bawumia has consistently maintained that the E-Levy undermines financial inclusion efforts.

According to Khomeini, the promise to abolish the E-Levy is rooted in policy conviction rather than mere attempts to gain popularity.

“It is not for crowd-pleasing, these are ideas well thought through by the flagbearer of the NPP. There is that recognition that we have to confront the cost of living issue, which every Ghanaian is concerned about…”

“And so, he believes that if we are determined to formalise our economy and transition from an informal way of doing things into the digital space, we must not have a tax system that will discourage people from wanting to participate in the digital space,” he said.

The e-levy, which kicked in on Sunday, May 1, 2022, sees a 1.5% levy on e-transactions. It covers mobile money payments, bank transfers, merchant payments, and inward remittances. There is an exemption for transactions up to GH¢100 per day.

The tax, according to the government, was part of its efforts to widen the tax net and generate revenue for development.

Election 2024: Akufo-Addo sends important message to voters https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-akufo-addo-sends-important-message-to-voters/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 08:40:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2320394 President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to be wary of politicians whose sole aim is to incite tribal and religious sentiments.

Those politicians, he said, had nothing good to offer the nation, especially in the bid to strengthen multiparty democracy, diversity, peace and unity of purpose.

“My advice to the electorate is that they reject such people as we get close to the 2024 general election.”

President Akufo-Addo, addressing the chiefs and people of Bantama, in Kumasi, at the inauguration of an E-library project, said the people should be circumspect about their choice of leaders for the nation.

“What matters most is that we give the nod to leaders whose competency, track record and integrity cannot be doubted. In fact, we cannot entrust the destiny of the nation into the hands of incompetent leaders to the detriment of our sustainable growth,” he said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo described next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections as critical as it would determine the direction of the nation in her development agenda.

On the election of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he said the move was appropriate given his experience, expertise and track record.

The presidential candidate of the NPP, he said, was a man of substance and also honest – a man who could be trusted to successfully spearhead the affairs of the nation.

The NPP had demonstrated commitment to Ghana’s development and growth over the years, therefore, the electorate should retain the Party in next year’s polls to ensure progress, the President appealed.

He praised the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama and Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, for the construction of the e-library project.

While asking the people to own the project, he underscored the need for them to also give the MP another mandate in next year’s elections to enable him to promote their welfare and wellbeing.

Asenso-Boakye said the project was indicative of the government’s vision of improving the standard of education for the benefit of the Ghanaian youth.
