Dr. Ofori lost his life because the hospital lacked a vital catheterisation laboratory (cath lab), an essential facility required to treat his life-threatening heart attack.

Despite desperate attempts by colleagues over the weekend to save him, the absence of this crucial medical equipment proved fatal, exposing a glaring deficiency in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Asah-Asante lamented, “Today is a very sad day for me, as a doctor who dedicated his life to saving others was abandoned by the very state he served when it was his turn.”

He unleashed a scathing critique of the nation’s leadership, saying, “We have leaders who are insensitive, selfish, and lack vision—wicked leaders who enrich themselves while ordinary Ghanaians suffer, yet still expect performance from the people. That is very unfair.”

Reflecting on the fatal absence that cost Dr. Ofori his life, he said bluntly, “Look at the facility the doctor needed to save his life — we simply could not provide it.”

Dr. Asah-Asante did not mince words about the systemic corruption that plagues the country, questioning, “How much of our resources go into corruption and waste? How much is spent on election campaigns with state money that should be saving lives?”

Calling for national accountability, he declared, “We have not done justice to our departed brother. We must bow our heads in shame.”

He urged Ghanaians to unite in defence of their country, stressing, “We need to organise ourselves so that we feel a sense of belonging to this state, prepared to fight and die for it when the time comes.”

Tying this tragedy to Ghana’s ongoing brain drain, he warned, “Leaders complain about young people fleeing the country, but who can blame them when leadership fails so badly? Ghanaians must open their eyes and vote out those who fail them.”

NPP Primaries: You can be an old guy, but if you’re incompetent, you won’t win – Asah-Asante https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-you-can-be-an-old-guy-but-if-youre-incompetent-you-wont-win-asah-asante/ Wed, 25 Jun 2025 06:59:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2547990 Political Scientist, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, says competence and a strong understanding of Ghana’s challenges—particularly economic ones—must be the deciding factors in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 presidential primaries, not popularity or experience alone.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Dr. Asah-Asante dismissed arguments that a candidate’s longevity or familiarity in the political space gives them an automatic edge.

“You can be an old guy who has contested many times and is well known, but if you are incompetent, you are incompetent,” he stated. “If you don’t have the support of the people, you don’t have them.”

He was responding to arguments made by some within the Bawumia camp that it is easier to market a candidate who has already “tested the waters.”

Dr. Asah-Asante, however, countered that political success is not built on repetition, but on relevance, strategy, and credibility.

“What the people want is somebody with the knowledge, with the understanding of the economy and how it works—not any propagandist style of positioning,” he added. “We want people who are the real men and understand the real issues confronting this country.”

He acknowledged that the leading contenders—Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Adutwum—all bring unique attributes to the race. However, he emphasized that it is their grasp of Ghana’s problems and ability to propose credible solutions that will determine who emerges victorious.

Dr. Asah-Asante also stated that records, strategy, and messaging that resonate with the electorate will be the major factors that “separate the chaff from the real input.”

Alan just rocking NPP’s boat – Political scientist https://www.adomonline.com/alan-just-rocking-npp-boat-political-scientist/ Sat, 30 Sep 2023 13:31:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2300039 A political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, has said that former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen will be the kingmaker in the 2024 general elections as an independent presidential candidate.

Dr. Asah-Asante stated that, Mr. Kyerematen’s influence in the Ashanti, Eastern, and Central regions may push the elections into a second round.

“If he and the smaller parties are able to galvanize about 1.5 million votes, it will push the elections into the second round.

“His absence will create the difficulties for them [NPP]. Alan can be the kingmaker. He himself knows he is not going there to win, he is going there to rock the boat of the NPP,” he said on Accra-based TV3.

Mr. Kyerematen announced his resignation from the NPP on Monday, September 25, making it the second time after he first did so in 2007.

Don’t turn a blind eye – NPP told over assault on Alan’s agent https://www.adomonline.com/dont-turn-a-blind-eye-npp-told-over-assault-on-alans-agent/ Wed, 30 Aug 2023 14:17:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2288896 A Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has charged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to investigate the assault on the polling agent of a flagbearer aspirant Mr Kyerematen and punish the culprits.

Dr Asah-Asante said that it does not help the image of the NPP to have such miscreants causing trouble in the party.

“It is gradually becoming a problem within the NPP that anytime there is a little issue people want to resort to violence. It doesn’t augur well for a party such as NPP to have such miscreants within them to undermine all that they have fought for over the years.

“So, I support the call of Mr Kyerematen that these things must be looked at critically and investigated and those who are culpable are sanctioned,” he said Accra-based TV3.

Mr Kyerematen said the attack on his Polling Agent in the North East Region during the Super Delegates’ Conference on Saturday, August 26 was “an act of total indiscipline”.

Ali Zakaria was hit in the eye and had to be taken to the Baptist Medical Center (BMC) for immediate treatment in an incident.

But Mr Zakaria had to be brought to Accra for further treatment.

Visiting him at the Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Mr Kyerematen, who placed third in the weekend’s elections said the attack at the Nalerigu Senior High School constitutes a dent on the image of the NPP.

He warned that such behavior would not be tolerated by him in the future.

“Frankly, I am very disturbed about what has happened. The party must not put a shine on what has happened.”

The Elections Committee had earlier met him over the incident after he first complained about it in his statement issued after the polls.
