According to him, unlike the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NPP’s national executives lack parliamentary experience — a gap he believes weakens the party’s strategic positioning.

Dr. Kissi made these comments in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

This comes in the wake of ongoing efforts by the NPP to re-strategise and rebuild its base to regain public confidence and electoral strength following the shocking defeat in the 2024 election.

The former lawmaker acknowledged that while national executives of both major political parties have excelled in various capacities, the NDC’s leadership stands out in terms of experience, having risen through multiple ranks of political service.

“I’m ashamed to say this, but our NPP Chairman compared to Asiedu Nketia, our General Secretary compared to the NDC — when you look at it critically, in terms of managerial role, we [NPP] have lost some parliamentary experience.

“Some people in the NDC hierarchy are former ministers, and in every house, you gain some experience and knowledge due to the training you are exposed to,” he stated.

Dr. Kissi has therefore urged the NPP to take deliberate actions and make strategic decisions to strengthen its grassroots structures and secure more parliamentary seats in the next election.

“It is the polling stations that deliver parliamentary seats, so how can we win if we don’t strengthen the base? It is unlikely that you will win the presidency without majority parliamentary seats. Our programming should be geared towards having more parliamentary seats; then the icing on the cake will be the presidency,” he admonished.

NPP PCs spent an average of GH¢10m on campaigns – MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-pcs-spent-an-average-of-gh%c2%a210m-on-campaigns-mp/ Sat, 14 Dec 2024 19:03:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2483848 Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has revealed that New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates spent an average of GH¢10 million for their campaign activities in the 2024 election.

According to him, many candidates make these financial sacrifices to serve their constituents, only to be met with the harsh reality of defeat.

Dr Kissi revealed this on Accra-based ChannelOne TV, describing it as a painful investment as he expressed concerns over the stakes involved.

The lawmaker also expressed worry over the monetisation of politics, adding MPs and parliamentary candidates are burdened with unrealistic expectations.

“These are some of the challenges we have with our democracy. And I think that we may have to dial down. I was talking with Honourable Henry Quartey, and he felt that people were also demanding more than was doable from a lot of Ministers. But who caused it? The promises were many,” he noted.

I drive pass any policeman who stops me at a dysfunctional traffic light – MP https://www.adomonline.com/i-drive-pass-any-policeman-who-stops-me-at-a-dysfunctional-traffic-light-mp/ Fri, 18 Aug 2023 14:21:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2284621 Anyaa-Sowtwuom Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has waded into the phenomenon of faulty and dysfunctional traffic lights in the Greater Accra Region.

The situation, coupled with the lack of street lights on major roads in the national capital according to him, is a worrying and dangerous precedent.

Speaking on Adom FM”s Dwaso Nsem, the MP disclosed he no longer stops at the traffic light after 10:00pm not even when signaled by a policeman.

His action, which he noted, is not to cast the government in a bad light, as he explained, it is for his own safety.

Dr Adomako bemoaned the situation increases the vulnerability of road users, especially pedestrians, to road traffic crashes and their associated injuries and deaths.

“What I do is check left and right to make sure there is no vehicle approaching, and then I pass because it is a big problem. From the Motorway all the way to Lapaz is total darkness, so when I get to Fiesta Royale, the place is dark; it could be that someone is hiding there for an operation, and I don’t want to make headlines the next day,” he said.

The MP has, therefore, appealed to Urban Roads to take steps to address the situation, citing the phenomenon is also prevalent on the Awoshie-Ablekuma stretch which is within his constituency.

MP calls for closed-door discussions on Gyakye Quayson’s trial https://www.adomonline.com/mp-calls-for-closed-door-discussions-on-gyakye-quaysons-trial/ Mon, 10 Jul 2023 17:05:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2270732 Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutoum, Dr Adomako Kissi, has proposed a closed-door discussion to find a lasting solution to Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson‘s trial.

According to him, it will be a step in the right direction for the legal brains both in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Democratic Congress (NDC) to deliberate on the issue and find a favourable way forward.

Dr Kissi made the call on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, stating parliament should not be left out of the discussion, especially due to the decision of the Minority to boycott parliamentary business anytime Mr Quayson is to appear in court.

“We need to tread cautiously in dealing with this case. It is like a volcano that if you don’t take care and it triggers, it will not be good. Right now because of one person, government business is not going as it should.

“Everyone is taking an entrenched position in our politics but we sometimes need to do what is in the public interest. So the guard of legal brains, thus, those who have written books on legal matters should weigh in carefully on this matter. We must be careful about another precedent we are about to set so that other subsequent decisions will be clear and will not plunge the country into chaos,” he advised.

Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on July 4, 2023, during the swearing-in of Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson threatened the side will accompany the latter to court whenever he is to appear.

The decision, Dr Forson, explained is intended to protest what the Minority perceives as ongoing persecution against their colleague.

Despite statements by Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, that parliamentary duties will go on with or without the Minority Caucus, the House last Thursday had to adjourn sitting due to its numbers.

This was because the Minority executed its threat and followed two of its colleagues, Mr Quayson and Dr Forson to court.

Mr Quayson is facing criminal charges brought against him after he lost his seat as Member of Parliament for Assin North for allegedly failing to renounce his dual citizenship status before filing to contest the 2022 parliamentary elections.

Dr Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister is also standing trial with Sylvester Anemana, a former Chief Director at the Ministry of Health, as well as private businessman, Richard Jakpa for willfully causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the state, through a contract to purchase 200 ambulances for the Ministry of Health, among other charges.
