The Chairman of the party’s Presidential Elections Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu, disclosed this on Thursday, December 17, during a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service and other security commanders in Accra, ahead of the internal polls.

Mr. Osei-Owusu explained that the election will be conducted across all 16 regions at 277 voting centres, with one centre in each region and two centres in Accra.

He added that the number of polling stations has increased to 332 after centres with more than 1,000 delegates were split into two, each serving a maximum of 500 voters, to promote efficiency and orderliness.

The NPP is expected to elect its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The contest will feature former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum; Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong; and former party General Secretary Engineer Kwabena Agyei-Agyepong.

NPP Primaries: I give delegates transport money – Bryan Acheampong https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-i-give-delegates-transport-money-bryan-acheampong/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 19:33:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2611092 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has defended providing delegates with transportation money during the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he said it is only right to give delegates transport funds when they travel several kilometres to attend meetings.

Mr Acheampong emphasized that this practice is not vote buying, but a standard and widely accepted procedure. He dismissed claims that he is distributing money to influence votes.

“If you invite delegates to a meeting, you should provide them with transportation money. Some people travel several kilometres just to meet with you, so it’s only fair to support them. It’s common practice to offer this assistance,” he said.

“However, I want to clarify that I do not engage in vote buying; I only provide transportation funds. This is something that everyone does. It’s merely propaganda to claim that I distribute money among delegates. Elections are competitive, and it’s not unusual for people to use propaganda; everyone wants to win,” he added.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr. Acheampong disclosed that he has so far engaged more than 200,000 delegates out of the party’s estimated 209,000 nationwide.

According to him, he has personally visited 219 constituencies, while delegates from constituencies he is yet to visit have also reached out to him.

He expressed confidence that by December 30, he would have engaged all delegates, noting that support for his candidature continues to grow as the campaign advances.

“The campaign is going well. I have met representatives from 219 constituencies and engaged with 200,000 delegates. Even in constituencies I haven’t visited, at least 100 delegates have reached out to me. By December 30, I expect to have met with all the delegates,” he said.

Dr. Acheampong further revealed that within the past two and a half months, about 50,000 delegates from across the country have visited him in Kwahu.

The Abetifi MP stressed that the NPP requires bold and disciplined leadership to remain relevant, emphasising that his campaign is not about “testing the waters” but a determined effort to lead the party forward.

“As we delve deeper into the constituencies, our confidence in achieving success grows. In the last two and a half months alone, 50,000 delegates from various constituencies have visited me in Kwahu. The time is now; we are not just testing the waters. Our party needs a bold and disciplined leader who will ensure that the voices of the people are heard and valued,” he added.

Many delegates shifting support from Bawumia to Kennedy Agyapong – Rocky Obeng https://www.adomonline.com/many-delegates-shifting-support-from-bawumia-to-kennedy-agyapong-rocky-obeng/ Thu, 11 Sep 2025 20:18:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2577560 Former Western North Regional Minister and member of Team Ken 2026, Joojo Rocky Obeng, has claimed that many New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates are shifting their support from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the party’s 2026 flagbearer primaries.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Obeng said Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign has gained strong momentum due to a more organised and efficient structure compared to his first attempt.

He added that the campaign team now has coordinators nationwide and a solid grassroots system, which he believes will give Kennedy Agyapong an edge in the upcoming primaries.

“I think the first time he aspired, there was not much activity. The team that helped him at that time performed well, but to win national elections, you need a solid system. At that time, he didn’t have coordinators across the country, and there were some constituencies where he lacked support. Now, all those gaps have been addressed, and we have a competent team on the ground.

“Many party delegates are shifting their support from Bawumia to Kennedy Agyapong as we tour the constituencies. The structure supporting Ken is now effective and efficient. Previously, the campaign was managed by volunteers, but now we have organised party members in place. The campaign momentum is very high,” he stated.

NPP Delegates shoot down regional oversight of Polling Station elections https://www.adomonline.com/npp-delegates-shoot-down-regional-oversight-of-polling-station-elections/ Sat, 19 Jul 2025 19:12:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2557496 Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, July 19, voted against Motion 17, which proposed a constitutional amendment to transfer the supervision of Polling Station and Electoral Area elections from constituency officers to the Regional Executive Committee.

The decision was made during the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, where nearly 6,000 delegates convened to deliberate on a wide range of reforms aimed at restructuring the party.

Motion 17 sought to amend Article 7(30) of the NPP Constitution to empower the Regional Executive Committee to appoint independent supervisors—excluding constituency officers—to oversee grassroots elections. Proponents of the motion argued that the change would eliminate conflicts of interest and ensure fairness.

“Constituencies are directly involved in the compilation of the album for organising Polling Station and Constituency elections. It is therefore prudent that supervision of these elections should be taken to the regional level to absolve it from any conflict of interest,” the motion read.

However, delegates overwhelmingly voted to maintain the status quo, favouring local control over internal electoral processes. The decision reflects the party’s grassroots belief in preserving accountability, transparency, and trust at the community level.

Motion 17 was one of 56 motions considered at the conference. These motions were consolidated from over 300 proposals submitted by party members nationwide and vetted by the Amendments Committee.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, earlier told Channel One News that the objective of the conference was to reassess the party’s internal structures and direction following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Payment of ‘T&T’ to delegates by aspirants is not a crime – Mac Manu https://www.adomonline.com/payment-of-tt-to-delegates-by-aspirants-is-not-a-crime-mac-manu/ Wed, 20 Jul 2022 13:53:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2139298 The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) National Election Committee, Peter Mac Manu, has opined that there is nothing wrong with aspirants footing the Travel and Transportation (T&T) cost of delegates during an event such as an annual delegates conference.

According to him, “it is not a crime”.

Speaking in an interview with Emefa Apawu on The Probe on Sunday, he stated that while the NPP did well to curb the perennial incident of vote-buying at political congresses; there is nothing wrong if aspirants pay the fares of delegates.

Mr Mac Manu made these remarks while answering a question posed by host of the show, regarding an allegation made by a National Organiser hopeful, Mr, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, to the effect that some aspirants bribed the delegates.

According to him, he knows those who are engaging in the illegality but will not mention names.

“I know them, they also know themselves so I will not mention names,” Mr. Asamoah Boateng stated.

Asabee disclosed that he has given the delegates money to cater for their travel and transport.

“I only gave them T&T three times-150, 150 and 100,” he said.

However, Mr Mac Manu said “That’s not part of the crimes in the PNDC law 284.”

In Mr. Mac Manu’s view, the party implemented robust measures to tackle the menace of monetisation, as part of its commitment to strengthen internal democracy.

Touching on the late start of proceedings on Saturday, he explained that the delay was occasioned by an injunction that was filed to prevent TESCON delegates from taking part in the elections.

He also added that some delegates had to commute all the way from the Eastern Region to the venue, due to some challenges with finding accommodation for them in Accra.

Mr Mac Manu used to the opportunity to dismiss assertions that the delay was as a result of aspirants meeting delegates in their hotels to give them money before they come to the venue.

In all, he was glad about the turn of events and expressed his happiness for a successful exercise.

NPP Delegates’ Conference: Delegates should vote for those with brains not money – Hassan Ayariga https://www.adomonline.com/npp-delegates-conference-delegates-should-vote-for-those-with-brains-not-money-hassan-ayariga/ Sat, 16 Jul 2022 14:15:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2138058 Founder and Leader of All People’s Congress (APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga, has advised delegates in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to vote for qualified candidates who are brain-powered.

According to him, some delegates will be influenced to sell their votes, hence the outcome of the elections wouldn’t be worth the party.

Speaking to GTV, prior to the commencement of the conference, he said:

We the APC are urging the delegates to vote for leaders with more brains than money, as you know in every election most people induce the voters with money not with their leadership skills. They must vote for a team that will help their government continue with the agenda.

If they need to move and win the 2024 elections, then they must vote for a team that will help their government to continue with the agenda. The president must know that times are tough. We wish them well and pray they present themselves peacefully.

We will either go independent or vote for NDC – Angry NPP delegates of Okaikwei South https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-either-go-independent-or-vote-for-ndc-angry-npp-delegates-of-okaikwei-south/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 14:59:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2109780 Some angry delegates in the Okaikwei South Constituency have vowed to punish the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.

Scores of them are accusing the MP of the area, Dakoa Newman of deliberate disenfranchisement during the ongoing constituency election.

Chaos erupted earlier today at the Prince of Peace polling station when the aggrieved persons faced off with the Police over the alleged deletion of some 430 names from the register.

They argue that despite the omission of their names, those affected should not be prevented from voting.

Some of them told JoyNews’ Kwesi Parker Wilson that they will not forgive the party if this misdeed is not rectified.

“By removing our names, she [Dakoa Newman] means she doesn’t want us in NPP, so in the next election, we won’t vote for her. This is her first and last term,” an aggrieved supporter said.

Another added, “We are seeing only new faces. Those who are not delegates here are rather voting. So we will either go independent or for NDC [National Democratic Congress] in the next election”

Meanwhile, four delegates have been arrested for obstructing the party’s constituency elections.

The conflict is not peculiar to only Okaikwei South. In the Ashanti Region, misunderstanding has rocked the Subin Constituency as some aspirants for executive positions moved to stop the election.

They accused the party’s leadership of breaching internal processes to hold delegates’ conference.

NPP Primaries: Angry delegates at Ablekuma North refuse to vote https://www.adomonline.com/npp-primaries-angry-delegates-at-ablekuma-north-refuse-to-vote/ Sat, 20 Jun 2020 08:24:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1814268 Some angry delegates at the Ablekuma North Constituency have refused to vote in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries currently underway.

According to Adom TV’s reporter, Harriet Osei Achiaa, the delegates were livid over the late submission of the delegates’ album to be used for voting in the primary.

The album, as explained by the delegates, was supposed to be ready a week to the day of voting and made available to delegates for examination.

But it was rather brought in by the Electoral Commission official just this morning as voting was about to commence.

The delegates suspect foul-play and claim names of some 104 delegates have been omitted from the register.

“The album that is supposed to be used for the voting was brought in just this morning, when it was supposed to be ready a week before today, we suspect that 104 names of some delegates have been omitted from the album that was why the album delayed,” one of the agitated delegates said.

Until the delegates peruse the album to confirm that all the names of delegates are present, they have vowed not to vote in the primary.

The parliamentary candidates contesting for the seat are: Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, John Kojo Agbotey, Kwadwo Poku Adjei-Baruwah and Sheila Bartels.
