The British Botched star, a native of Dudley, England, who had reportedly spent over $150,000 on plastic surgery to look like Kim Kardashian, died on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

In a statement, The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called by the London Ambulance Service regarding reports of an unconscious 34-year-old man on Lincoln Plaza, Canary Wharf. He was declared dead at the scene.

The police added that “his death is currently being treated as unexplained” and an investigation is underway. It is suggested that the victim may have underwent a cosmetic procedure prior to his death, the cause of which is unknown.

A 43-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were arrested on Friday, February 20, on suspicion of manslaughter. They have since granted bail pending further investigation.

Parke previously made headlines when he was arrested in 2024 after Alice Webb, a mom of five, died at 33 after becoming unwell following a non-surgical Brazilian butt lift or “Liquid BBL” at a Gloucester clinic run by Parke and Jemma Pawlyszyn, per Daily Mail.

He was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, but was not charged. As reported by ITV News, he was due to answer bail this March.

Parke’s sister Sharnelle wrote on Instagram that their family is “numb, shocked and heartbroken” over his death in a tribute on Instagram.

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord ‘El Mencho’ killed in military operation https://www.adomonline.com/mexicos-most-wanted-drug-lord-el-mencho-killed-in-military-operation/ Mon, 23 Feb 2026 07:09:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2633724 Mexico’s most wanted man and the leader of the feared Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) drug cartel has been killed during a security operation to arrest him, the defence ministry has said.

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho”, died on Sunday as he was being taken to the capital Mexico City, after being seriously injured in clashes between his supporters and the army.

Four CJNG members were killed in the town of Tapalpa, the central-western Jalisco state. Three army personnel were also injured. The US had given Mexico information that assisted the operation.

CJNG retaliated by setting cars alight, building roadblocks and attacking security forces in eight states.

The US State Department issued a shelter-in-place warning for US citizens in the states of Jalisco, Tamaulipas, as well as some areas in Michoacan, Guerrero and Nuevo Leon.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo later urged people to remain “calm”.

In a post on X, she wrote that “in most parts of the country, activities are proceeding normally”.

El Mencho, a 59-year-old former police officer, ran a vast criminal organisation responsible for trafficking huge quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl into the US.

The US State Department had offered a $15m (£11.1m) reward for information leading to El Mencho’s capture.

In a statement, the Mexican defence ministry said the operation was “planned and executed” by the country’s special forces.

Aircraft from the Mexican Air Force and the National Guard were also deployed.

It also said that several armoured vehicles and weapons – including rocket launchers – were seized during the operation.

The US had been providing information to Mexico that assisted its operation, the statement said.

Eyewitnesses have filmed plumes of smoke rising over several cities including Guadalajara – one of the host cities of the forthcoming Fifa World Cup.

In the tourist hotspot of Puerto Vallarta, on the Jalisco coast, potentially thousands of tourists are trapped in the resort because of the unrest.

Throughout Sunday, there were reports of gunmen on the streets in Jalisco and elsewhere.

The governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, on social media advised residents of the state to adhere to a code red warning and stay in their homes.

He also said that public transport was suspended in the state.

US carriers United Airlines and American Airlines, as well as Air Canada, have cancelled flights to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. A flight operated by Delta Airlines bound for Guadalajara from Atlanta was diverted to Austin, according to flight-tracking site Flight Aware.

Former US ambassador to Mexico and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau described El Mencho on social media as “one of the bloodiest and most ruthless drug kingpins.”

He added that El Mencho’s death was “a great development for Mexico, the US, Latin America, and the world”.

Who was El Mencho, Mexico’s most wanted man?

Mike Vigil, former Chief of International Operations for the US Drug Enforcement Administration, described the operation as “one of the most significant actions undertaken in the history of drug trafficking”. He was speaking to CBS, the BBC’s US news partner.

The killing of El Mencho represents a victory for the Mexican president in her fight against the country’s drug cartels.

It also could strengthen her relationship with US President Donald Trump, who has threatened to target the cartels on Mexican soil.

Last January, Trump told Fox News that after targeting drug trafficking boats “we are going to start now hitting land,” adding that “the cartels are running Mexico”.

President Sheinbaum later responded by saying a US troop deployment across the southern border was “not on the table”.

However, if the security forces can’t bring the situation under control quickly, the Mexican administration’s victory may be overshadowed by the cartel’s violent response.

The Jalisco cartel has gained notoriety for a series of attacks on security forces and public officials.

It has downed an army helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade, killed dozens of state officials, and has even been known to hang the bodies of its victims from bridges to intimidate its rivals.

CJNG cartel – Mexico’s major drug trafficking player

The CJNG cartel – which had its original power base in Jalisco in 2010 – is now present across Mexico.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) considers it to be rivalling the powerful Sinaloa cartel, which has a presence in all 50 US states.

CJNG is also a key supplier of drugs to the US, earning billions from fentanyl production.

Sly Dunbar, prolific legend of reggae, dies aged 73 https://www.adomonline.com/sly-dunbar-prolific-legend-of-reggae-dies-aged-73/ Tue, 27 Jan 2026 07:41:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2623999 Reggae legend Sly Dunbar, who played with everyone from Bob Marley to The Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 73.

One of the genre’s most revered drummers, he played on tracks such as Bob Marley’s Punky Reggae Party and Dave and Ansell Collins’ classic, Double Barrel.

However, he was better known as half of the production team Sly & Robbie, who produced groundbreaking hits for everyone from Peter Tosh and Black Uhuru, to non-reggae acts like Bob Dylan, Grace Jones and Ian Dury.

Dunbar’s death was first reported by his wife, Thelma, who told the Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner she had found him unresponsive on Monday morning. The musician’s agent and publicist confirmed the news to the BBC.

Born Lowell Fillmore Dunbar in Kingston, Jamaica, he started out playing on tin cans after watching Lloyd Knibbs and the Skatalites on television.

“I saw [Knibbs] playing, and I thought, ‘I want to be a drummer’ because he’s the hardest worker in the band,” he said in a 1997 interview.

“He’s my idol! In some ways, I’m self-taught, but I got a lot of help from other drummers by watching them play.”

In his teens, Dunbar met bassist Robbie Shakespeare and formed the Revolutionaries’ rhythm section, who became regular session musicians at the famed Channel One recording studio.

Their sound differed from the melody-rich music of Bob Marley, with a heavier emphasis on the beat – including the pioneering “rockers” rhythm, which introduced more syncopation and energy to the music.

Getty Images Sly and Robbie
Sly and Robbie were one of the most creative and in-demand partnerships in reggae

They spent the 1970s working with major reggae acts like Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Barrington Levy, while touring the US with Peter Tosh.

According to legend, the duo lived on bread and water during that period, hoping to save enough money to start their own production company.

Taxi Records was founded in 1980 and nurtured a new generation of Jamaican artists, including Shaggy, Shabba Ranks, Skip Marley, Beenie Man, and Red Dragon.

Around the same time, they provided the thunderous beats on Grace Jones’s 1981 hit album Nightclubbing, which opened the door for them to work with some of rock and pop’s greatest – from Dylan and Joe Cocker to singers like Marianne Faithfull, Madonna and Sinead O’Connor.

At home, they earned a reputation for updating reggae’s sound by incorporating more electronic instruments and textures.

Later, they developed a bright, melodic take on dancehall with the duo Chaka Demus & Pliers, scoring hits with songs such as Tease Me and Murder She Wrote in the early 1990s.

At one point, Shakespeare (who died in 2021) estimated that he and Dunbar had taken part in more than 200,000 recordings, either their own or as backup musicians or producers for other artists.

“When you buy a reggae record, there’s a 90% chance the drummer is Sly Dunbar,” producer Brian Eno told the New Music New York festival in 1979.

“You get the impression that Sly Dunbar is chained to a studio seat somewhere in Jamaica, but in fact what happens is that his drum tracks are so interesting, they get used again and again.”

Dunbar’s wife said she had found him unresponsive in bed at around 07:00 on Monday, 26 January.

“I went to wake him up, and he wasn’t responding. I called the doctor, and that was the news,” she said.

An exact cause of death was not given, though Dunbar had reportedly been ill for some time.

“Yesterday was such a good day for him,” Thelma told Jamaica’s Gleaner newspaper.

“He had friends come over to visit him, and we all had such a good time. He ate well yesterday… sometimes he’s not into food. I knew he was sick… but I didn’t know that he was this sick.”

Among those paying tribute was British DJ David Rodigan, who called Dunbar a “true icon” and “one of the greatest drummers of all time”.

The lying in state will be held at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday January 21st and Thursday January 22nd, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 23rd at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, in Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome, at 11 am.”

Universally known by his first name, Valentino was adored by generations of royals, first ladies and movie stars, from Jackie Kennedy Onassis to Julia Roberts and Queen Rania of Jordan, who swore the designer always made them look and feel their best.

“I know what women want,” he once remarked. “They want to be beautiful.”

Never one for edginess or statement dressing, Valentino made precious few fashion faux-pas throughout his nearly half-century-long career, which stretched from his early days in Rome in the 1960s through to his retirement in 2008.

His fail-safe designs made Valentino the king of the red carpet, the go-to man for A-listers’ awards ceremony needs. His sumptuous gowns have graced countless Academy Awards, notably in 2001, when Roberts wore a vintage black and white column to accept her best actress statue.

Cate Blanchett also wore Valentino — a one-shouldered number in butter-yellow silk — when she won the Oscar for best supporting actress in 2004.

The deceased, identified as Baba and a female colleague whose name is yet to be confirmed, both worked at the company, which specialises in plastic processing. Baba was a senior staff member, while the woman had been with the company for less than two months.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear. The pair were discovered on the back seat of the car, with the woman’s head resting on Baba’s shoulder. Baba was reportedly wearing only a singlet and shorts. At the time of discovery, the car’s tinted windows were rolled up and the doors locked.

Sources indicate that staff of Asomdwie Rubber Company had earlier attended the wedding of one of their managers on Saturday, November 22, where both deceased employees were present.

Later that evening, the female employee reported for her shift but complained of feeling unwell and was permitted to go home. Around 8 p.m., residents saw Baba’s vehicle enter the area and park, with the engine initially running before it went off.

The vehicle remained at the same spot throughout Sunday, November 23. It was not until Monday, November 24, that workers and residents detected a foul smell and notified the police. Officers broke the windows to access the vehicle and discovered the bodies.

Further reports suggest that Baba married in early August 2025, and his wife is currently pregnant. The female colleague was also said to be preparing for her wedding, scheduled for December 2025.

The bodies have been deposited at the morgue as police investigations continue.

Although his condition briefly improved, he continued to experience weakness and difficulty walking. His team later decided to cut their engagements short so he could return home to rest.

However, at dawn on the day he died, Nwobu is said to have suffered another severe episode as his heart began pounding intensely. An ambulance was called, but despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

His sudden passing has left the Nollywood community and fans across the continent in shock. Many remember him for his comedic skits, vibrant personality and strong presence on social media.

E/R: Missing civilian employee found dead in Bediasi river https://www.adomonline.com/e-r-missing-civilian-employee-found-dead-in-bediasi-river/ Tue, 25 Nov 2025 13:23:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2603631 The community of Ahyia Yeboah, near Sokode-Juaso close to Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been thrown into shock following the discovery of the body of a man who went missing earlier this month.

According to reports, Emmanuel Kwakye Daria, a 45-year-old farmer from Akyem Kukurantumi, reported on 16th November 2025 that his younger brother, Kwadwo Debrah, a civilian employee at Burma Camp — not a military officer as earlier speculated — had gone missing after visiting a location at Foforfo to retrieve a mobile phone.

On Tuesday, 25th November 2025, a community search team found the deceased in the Bediasi River, sparking tension among residents. In the unrest that followed, three houses were allegedly set ablaze, but the swift intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading.

Police have since arrested five individuals in connection with the incident, while one suspect is still on the run. Security personnel have been deployed to restore calm and support ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, a pathologist has been dispatched by the police to assist with the safe retrieval of the body from the river. This examination is expected to help authorities determine the exact condition of the remains, following earlier speculation within the community.

The area remains tense as residents continue to demand justice, while authorities intensify efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff dies at 81 https://www.adomonline.com/reggae-legend-jimmy-cliff-dies-at-81/ Mon, 24 Nov 2025 20:05:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2603373 Jimmy Cliff, one of the most prominent and beloved proponents of reggae music, has died at the age of 81.

A star since the 1960s, he helped to bring the sound of Jamaica to a global audience through hits such as Wonderful World, Beautiful People and You Can Get It If You Really Want.

His lead role as a gun-toting rebel in the 1972 crime drama The Harder They Come is a cornerstone of Jamaican cinema, and was attributed as the movie that brought reggae to America.

Cliff’s wife, Latifa Chambers, announced his death via a statement on Instagram.

“It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia,” she wrote.

“I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him.

“To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career.

“Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.”

Her message was also signed by their children, Lilty and Aken.

Born James Chambers in 1948, Cliff grew up as the eighth of nine children in abject poverty in the parish of St. James, Jamaica.

Blessed with a sweet, mellifluous voice, he began singing at his local church at the age of six.

By the time he was 14, he’d moved to Kingston and adopted the surname Cliff to express the heights he intended on reaching.

He recorded several singles before topping the Jamaican charts with his own composition, Hurricane Hattie.

In 1965, he relocated to London to work with Island Records – later the home of Bob Marley – but the label’s attempts to make his sound palatable to rock audiences weren’t entirely successful at first.

He struck gold with the 1969 single Wonderful World, Beautiful People – an upbeat, feelgood anthem; and the more politically-charged Vietnam, which Bob Dylan called “the best protest song ever written”.

But Cliff became an international star with The Harder They Come, expressly written for the movie of the same name, in which he played Ivan Martin, a young man trying to break into Jamaica’s corrupt music industry.

“The film opened the door for Jamaica,” Cliff recalled. “It said, ‘This is where this music comes from.'”

His other recordings included the Grammy Award-winning albums Cliff Hanger (1985) and Rebirth (2012); and Cliff was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Popular Korean drama star found dead in car https://www.adomonline.com/popular-korean-drama-star-found-dead-in-car/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 09:13:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2563161 South Korean actor Song Young-kyu, known internationally for his memorable turn as Chief Choi in the 2019 box office hit “Extreme Job,” died on Monday. He was 55.

Song was found unresponsive inside a parked car in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, south of Seoul, around 8 a.m. local time, according to local authorities. Police confirmed there were no signs of foul play and no suicide note was found. An acquaintance discovered his body.

Song made his stage debut in 1994 in the children’s musical “Wizard Mureul” and built a steady three-decade career across theater, film and television. He was best known for supporting roles in projects including “Trick,” “Stove League,” “Baseball Girk” and “Hyena.”

His appearance in “Extreme Job” — one of the highest-grossing films in Korean cinema – cemented his status as a reliable character actor with a knack for dry humor and gritty realism.

In June this year, Song was involved in a DUI incident in Yongin, reportedly driving five kilometers with a blood alcohol concentration high enough for license revocation under South Korean law. He was referred to prosecution without detention. In the aftermath, Song stepped down from the stage production of “Shakespeare in Love” and was removed or minimized in two dramas airing at the time – ENA’s “The Defects” and SBS’s “The Winning Try.”

Song’s gravitas and consistency made him a go-to supporting actor in the Korean entertainment industry. His performances often grounded large-scale productions with quiet authority, a presence that resonated with audiences even in ensemble-heavy works. His unexpected death adds another chapter to the ongoing conversation about mental health and media scrutiny in the South Korean entertainment landscape. Earlier this year, actor Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her home.

Song is survived by his wife and two daughters.

A 32-year-old South African woman, Lesego Mary Masina, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen during what seemed like a robbery.

The sad incident happened on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Boikhutsong, Phase 8 in Mabopane, Tshwane six months after she received a threat letter, warning her to stay away from a certain man.

Her sister, Ofense Masina, 27, said three thugs, wearing balaclavas, robbed them at gunpoint.

She said seven members of the family were chilling when they heard footsteps outside the house.

“We didn’t even hear them open the door. They had torches as there was no electricity in the area on that day. They told us to keep quiet as they didnt want to kill anyone. They didn’t even tell us exactly what they were looking for.

“They took almost 15 minutes to search the house, asked our names, then we knew they wanted something more. We realised this was not a robbery, but they were sent to kill Lesego. We were tied up.

After Lesego told them her name, they said they had found what they were looking for. Then, they took her to the bedroom and told her she was the person they were after.

There was screaming, a gunshot rang out and they left.

“My sister had one bullet to the head. They stole two cell phones, a Samsung Galaxy, Huawei Y70, and R150,” she explained.

Offentse said in February, someone dropped a letter at night with a strong message and two bullets attacked to it.

She said they also called her mum at night, saying they had delivered a parcel.

She said the family didnt know who sent the letter.

“We dont know who killed Lesego. We need justice,” she said.

Lesego’s father, Paulous Masina, 57, said these thugs wanted to kill her, and it wasnt a robbery.

“That Sunday, we were at a funeral burying a church member during the day. My daughter was happy. We want justice for my daughter,” Paulous said.

The grieving father said police failed them during the first incident of a letter.

One dead, several others injured in clash of gangs at Mpasaaso in Ashanti region https://www.adomonline.com/one-dead-several-others-injured-in-clash-of-gangs-at-mpasaaso-in-ashanti-region/ Thu, 24 Jul 2025 20:23:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2559664 A renewed gang clash at Mpasaaso No. 1 and No. 2 in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region has left one person dead and three others in critical condition, including a pregnant woman, plunging the community into fear and uncertainty.

The violent incident, which occurred around 3:00 PM on Wednesday, has compelled many farmers to stay away from their farms, while some students are too terrified to attend school.

The cause of the clash is yet to be ascertained.

Mpasaaso, a predominantly farming and mining community, has witnessed a series of violent clashes over the years, but residents say the latest attack is one of the most severe.

After a deadly shooting, the assailants reportedly stormed the residence of the Queen Mother of Mpasaaso No. 2, destroying property and ransacking her room in what locals have described as a targeted act of intimidation.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Dwamena Mensah, the Abusuapanin (family head) of Mpasaaso No. 2, lamented the repeated attacks and the inaction of the authorities.

“This is not the first time such an incident has happened here. We’ve made countless complaints, but no arrests have ever been made. The situation keeps getting worse,” he said.

An eyewitness, Collins Appiah Afrifa, also expressed deep frustration at the lack of police intervention.

“We’ve reported everything to the Police Commander at Mankranso, but still nothing has been done. We don’t trust the police anymore. If authorities in the region don’t act swiftly, we will be forced to protect ourselves,” he warned.

A youth leader, Kwadwo Asare, echoed similar sentiments and accused the District Chief Executive, Abubakar Saddick, of being complicit.

“The thugs themselves say they have the support of the DCE. We are giving him up to Friday to provide us protection or we’ll defend ourselves,” he stated firmly.

Residents are now appealing to the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the Inspector General of Police to step in immediately to restore peace and protect lives and property in the troubled community.

Nurse, 37, found dead in suspected suicide at Edwenase https://www.adomonline.com/nurse-37-found-dead-in-suspected-suicide-at-edwenase/ Mon, 21 Jul 2025 11:25:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2557922 Sorrow has engulfed the Edwenase community following the suspected death by suicide of Akosua Adutwuwaa, a 37-year-old nurse stationed at the Kokofu Government Hospital.

Her lifeless body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her home on Sunday morning, leaving family, friends, and colleagues in shock and grief.

The grim discovery sent shockwaves through the quiet residential area, prompting a swift police response.

According to her distraught mother, Akosua’s day had begun seemingly as usual.

She reportedly attended to household chores and meticulously prepared breakfast for her two-year-old daughter.

However, as the family made preparations to depart for church, Akosua was nowhere to be found.

A frantic search ensued, culminating in the heartbreaking discovery in one of the rooms within their home.

The sudden and tragic loss of a healthcare professional dedicated to the well-being of others has cast a sombre mood over the community and the broader health sector.

Investigations are currently underway by local police to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding her death, though initial indications point to suicide.

The body of Akosua Adutwuwaa has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

This heartbreaking incident in Edwenase underscores a silent but persistent public health crisis in Ghana related to the rising, yet often underreported, issue of suicide and the broader challenges of mental health.

For years, suicide remained a criminal offence under Ghanaian law—a factor that significantly contributed to underreporting and deepened the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

While a landmark amendment in March 2023 finally decriminalised suicide, moving it from a criminal act to a mental health issue, the societal stigma and barriers to seeking help remain formidable.

Official statistics on suicide in Ghana are difficult to ascertain due to various factors, including cultural reluctance to report such deaths, fear of social ostracism for affected families, and the lack of a robust national suicide surveillance system.

However, mental health experts and reports from organisations like the World Health Organisation (WHO) consistently highlight that suicide is a global concern, and Ghana is not immune.

It is estimated that a significant portion of the Ghanaian population experiences some form of mental health disorder, but only a fraction receives professional care due to limited resources, few specialised personnel (psychiatrists, clinical psychologists), and concentrated facilities primarily in urban centres.

Factors contributing to mental distress and suicidal ideation in Ghana are complex and multifaceted, often including economic hardship, unemployment, relationship problems, chronic physical illnesses, substance abuse, and undiagnosed or untreated conditions like depression and anxiety.

Healthcare professionals, despite their roles, are not immune to these pressures and may also face unique occupational stressors that can impact their mental well-being.

Mental health advocates and civil society organisations have long campaigned for increased investment in mental healthcare, widespread public awareness campaigns to combat stigma, and improved access to affordable mental health services, particularly at the community level.

The tragic passing of Akosua Adutwuwaa serves as a reminder of the urgent need for a more comprehensive and compassionate approach to mental health in Ghana—ensuring that individuals in distress receive the support and care they need before it is too late.

7 Ghanaian pilgrims confirmed dead during 2025 Hajj https://www.adomonline.com/7-ghanaian-pilgrims-confirmed-dead-during-2025-hajj/ Sun, 08 Jun 2025 10:14:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2542344 The Ghana Hajj Board has confirmed the regrettable deaths of seven Ghanaian pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj rituals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The deceased comprise five women and two men.

While their identities have not been publicly disclosed, the Board has assured that all affected families in Ghana have been informed of the unfortunate events.

Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board, Alhaji Collins Dauda, addressed the matter in an interaction with TV3 on Saturday, June 7, expressing profound condolences.

“Unfortunately, for the 2025 pilgrimage, we have lost seven of our compatriots. Deaths are painful, but death will come when it has to come and therefore, regrettably, as the case is, we take the opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the families back in Ghana who have been affected in this case,” Alhaji Dauda stated.

He further indicated that Hajj Board officials would visit the bereaved families in Ghana at an appropriate time to commiserate with them.

In line with Islamic principles, all seven deceased individuals have since been buried in Saudi Arabia, a standard practice for pilgrims who pass away during the Hajj.

This year, Ghana dispatched a contingent of over 6,000 pilgrims to Mecca, joining over 2 million Muslims worldwide for the annual pilgrimage.

The Hajj, a physically demanding spiritual journey, is often conducted under extreme weather conditions.

Reports from Mecca this year indicated scorching temperatures, frequently exceeding 48°C during the peak ritual days, posing significant health risks to pilgrims, especially the elderly or those with pre-existing conditions.

Despite these challenging circumstances, the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage has seen a remarkable reduction in Ghanaian fatalities compared to previous years.

Alhaji Dauda highlighted that the current figure of seven deaths represents a drastic decline from the 17 reported in the 2024 pilgrimage, marking an impressive ~59% reduction in fatalities.

The Hajj Board chairman attributed this improved safety record to robust protocols implemented in close collaboration with Saudi authorities.

These measures include comprehensive health screenings before departure, the deployment of dedicated Ghanaian medical teams accompanying the pilgrims, and enhanced provisions for prompt medical care and emergency response on the ground.

Heatstroke prevention efforts, including widespread hydration points and advisory campaigns, were also intensified to mitigate the risks associated with the intense desert climate.

The Board remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Ghanaian pilgrims, continuously reviewing and adapting its protocols in line with international best practices for managing mass gatherings under challenging conditions.

Actor Jonathan Joss shot dead while protecting his husband https://www.adomonline.com/actor-jonathan-joss-shot-dead-while-protecting-his-husband/ Wed, 04 Jun 2025 08:33:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2541548 Jonathan Joss, the actor best known for voicing John Redcorn on the animated series King of the Hill and portraying Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation, has died following a shooting incident in San Antonio, Texas.

He was 59 years old.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers responded Sunday to reports of a shooting on Dorsey Drive. They found Joss near the roadway and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and an investigation is ongoing.

Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, confirmed the actor’s death in a text message to the Associated Press. In a statement, de Gonzales revealed that they were threatened by a man with a gun while checking the mail outside their home, which had been damaged by fire earlier this year in January—a fire that tragically killed their three dogs.

“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” de Gonzales said.

The San Antonio Police Department stated on Monday evening that there is currently no evidence to suggest the murder was related to Joss’ sexual orientation.

In his acting career, Joss portrayed Chief Ken Hotate, a tribal elder and casino owner, on Parks and Recreation. He took over the role of John Redcorn on King of the Hill in the show’s second season after the original voice actor, Victor Aaron, died in a car accident in 1996. Joss continued voicing the character until the show ended.

King of the Hill is being rebooted, with a premiere scheduled for August 4 on Hulu. Joss reportedly participated in the new series. A video recorded just days before his death shows him at a King of the Hill panel and sneak peek event at The Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas.

Pope Francis dead at 88, Vatican confirms https://www.adomonline.com/pope-francis-dead-at-88-vatican-confirms/ Mon, 21 Apr 2025 08:48:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2527137 Pope Francis has died, the Vatican has announced in a video statement.

The first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church,  died at the age of 88 on Monday. He had suffered various ailments in his 12 year papacy, with severe complications in recent weeks.

In the statement, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.

At 9:45 AM, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, announced the death of Pope Francis from the Casa Santa Marta with these words:

“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God.”

The Pope was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, after suffering from a bout of bronchitis for several days.

Pope Francis’ clinical situation gradually worsened, and his doctors diagnosed bilateral pneumonia on Tuesday, February 18.

After 38 days in hospital, the late Pope returned to his Vatican residence at the Casa Santa Marta to continue his recovery.

In 1957, in his early 20s, Jorge Mario Bergoglio underwent surgery in his native Argentina to remove a portion of his lung that had been affected by a severe respiratory infection.

As he aged, Pope Francis frequently suffered bouts of respiratory illnesses, even cancelling a planned visit to the United Arab Emirates in November 2023 due to influenza and lung inflammation.

In April 2024, the late Pope Francis approved an updated edition of the liturgical book for papal funeral rites, which will guide the funeral Mass which has yet to be announced.

The second edition of the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis introduces several new elements, including how the Pope’s mortal remains are to be handled after death.

The ascertainment of death takes place in the chapel, rather than in the room where he died, and his body is immediately placed inside the coffin.

According to Archbishop Diego Ravelli, Master of Apostolic Ceremonies, the late Pope Francis had requested that the funeral rites be simplified and focused on expressing the faith of the Church in the Risen Body of Christ.

“The renewed rite,” said Archbishop Ravelli, “seeks to emphasise even more that the funeral of the Roman Pontiff is that of a pastor and disciple of Christ and not of a powerful person of this world.”

5 dead as Islamic protesters clash with Nigerian military, police https://www.adomonline.com/5-dead-as-islamic-protesters-clash-with-nigerian-military-police/ Mon, 31 Mar 2025 08:50:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2520268 Nigerian police said on Saturday they had come under intense gunfire a day earlier in a neighbourhood of the capital, Abuja, during clashes between security forces and Shi’ite Muslim protesters that led to several reported deaths.

On Friday, dozens of the group’s members marched in solidarity with Palestine, but violence broke out when they clashed with soldiers and police.

Critics say Nigerian security forces have increasingly resorted to using force, including live ammunition, to quell protests, and that this could radicalise groups like IMN.

Police in a statement on Saturday accused the protesters of “a violent assault” on security personnel armed with firearms and other lethal weapons in Abuja’s Wuse 2 neighbourhood.

One member of the security forces had died and 19 suspects had been arrested, he said.

Videos circulating on social media platform X showed protesters waving a Palestinian flag and throwing stones at an army vehicle, followed by the sound of gunfire.

Sidi Munir Sokoto, a senior IMN member blamed the military for the violence, saying the protest was peaceful. He put the death toll at five.

An army spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Isa Sanusi, head of Amnesty International Nigeria, called for an impartial investigation.

“The army used live ammunition on the protesters. It appears they approach IMN protesters always with the intent to kill,” Sanusi told Reuters, also putting the death toll at five.

Two individuals have lost their lives following the collapse of a galamsey pit in the Dadieso-Kwabenakrom area of the Suaman District in the Western North Region.

The victims, identified as 20-year-old Kwadwo and 25-year-old Akwesman, were reportedly engaged in illegal mining when the pit suddenly caved in, trapping them beneath the rubble.

Efforts by fellow miners and bystanders to rescue them proved futile due to the depth of the pit and the weight of the debris.

By the time emergency responders arrived, the two had already succumbed to their injuries.

Their bodies were later retrieved and transported to the Enchi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and further examination.

Speaking to Adom News, the Assemblyman for the Suiano Electoral Area, Otoo Stephen, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the increasing dangers associated with illegal mining in the district.

He noted that both victims were from the community, and their families are assisting the police with investigations.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are expected to intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal mining operations in the district to prevent future tragedies.
