The project, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive for Kpandai, Haruna Karim, aims to provide much-needed healthcare access to a community that has struggled for decades without a nearby facility.

At the brief ceremony to mark the project’s commencement, the DCE acknowledged the challenges residents face in accessing medical care, noting that many often had to travel long distances for treatment.

He emphasized that the construction of the CHPS compound is part of the government’s broader effort to improve primary healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

“This project will not only improve access to healthcare services but also reduce preventable deaths, especially among women and children,” Haruna Karim stated.

Once completed, the facility is expected to provide essential healthcare services, including maternal and child health, basic treatment, and health education for residents of Meme and surrounding communities.

Residents who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude to the government and the district assembly for responding to their long-standing plea, describing the development as a “dream come true” that will ease the burden of seeking healthcare in distant towns.

Community leaders also pledged support for the successful completion of the project, urging residents to take ownership and protect the facility.

The new CHPS compound is anticipated to significantly boost healthcare delivery and improve overall well-being in the area.

The first project involves the construction of a two-unit kindergarten (KG) classroom block with ancillary facilities for the people of Wumenu. The facility is expected to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for early childhood education and strengthen the academic foundation of children in the community.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Mr. Ameko reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education. He emphasized that investment in early childhood education remains a key priority, as it supports child development and eases the burden on working parents.

In a related development, the DCE also cut the sod for the construction of a 10-seater toilet facility and four bathrooms for animal traders at Adaklu Waya. The project is aimed at addressing longstanding sanitation challenges at the animal trading centre, where access to decent washroom facilities has been limited.

Mr. Ameko noted that the sanitation facility would improve hygiene at the market and help prevent the spread of diseases, urging traders and users to take proper care of the facility once completed.

Traditional leaders, including Togbe Sekpe III, Chief of Adaklu Wumenu, together with community members and local authorities, expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for responding to their needs. They described the projects as timely interventions that will enhance education and public health in the area.

The projects form part of the NDC government and the Adaklu Waya District Assembly’s broader efforts to promote infrastructure development and improve living conditions across the district.

Ho Municipality sees sod-cutting for key government projects https://www.adomonline.com/ho-municipality-sees-sod-cutting-for-key-government-projects/ Tue, 20 Jan 2026 13:00:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2621502 The Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Ho Municipal Assembly and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has cut sod for several key development projects across the Ho Municipality in the Volta Region.

Funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the projects are aimed at improving access to quality education, healthcare, and potable water. They include the construction of classroom blocks, nurses’ quarters, CHPS compounds, and the drilling and mechanization of boreholes across the municipality.

Specifically, the education infrastructure projects involve the construction of three-unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities at Hodzo Alavanyo and Kpenoe, as well as a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Nyive. These interventions are expected to ease congestion in schools and create a more conducive teaching and learning environment for both pupils and teachers.

In the health sector, two-unit nurses’ quarters will be constructed at Matse and Tokokoe to improve staff accommodation and enhance effective healthcare delivery. Additionally, CHPS compounds will be constructed at Takla Atiyinu and Ziavi Bamefedo to bring primary healthcare services closer to residents.

To address challenges associated with access to clean drinking water, the project also includes the drilling and mechanization of thirty (30) boreholes across the Ho Municipality.

Delivering his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of Kpenoe, Togbe Kotoku XI, applauded the MP for the Ho Constituency, the MCE, and the NDC government for cutting sod for the projects, particularly the school in Kpenoe.

According to Togbe Kotoku, this is the first time a sitting government has cut sod for a school in their community. He noted that the only school in Kpenoe was established in 1880 by the EP Church and can no longer accommodate the increasing number of students. He welcomed the initiative, saying it has come at the right time.

Togbe Kotoku also appealed to the MP and MCE to upgrade the three-unit classroom block into a storey building to accommodate more students.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Stephen Adom, explained that the projects form part of the government’s broader agenda to improve living standards and promote balanced development within the municipality. He noted that investment in education, health, and water remains a top priority, as these sectors are critical to human development.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ho Constituency, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people. He assured residents that the projects would be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and value for money.

Edem Kofi Kpotosu also assured the chiefs and elders of Kpenoe that their request would be fulfilled and instructed the contractor to upgrade the initial plan into a storey building.

Some residents and beneficiaries who spoke during the sod-cutting ceremony expressed appreciation to the MCE, the MP, and the NDC government for the interventions. They described the projects as timely and impactful, noting that they would significantly improve education, healthcare, and water access in their communities.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks a major step towards accelerating development in the Ho Municipality and underscores the government’s commitment to grassroots development.
