The meeting is expected to review complaints from free zone enterprises that changes introduced under the new law have reduced some of the incentives previously available to them.

The engagement will take place after the Finance Minister returns from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings.

Speaking during a visit to Ghanaian-owned garment manufacturer DTRT, President Mahama acknowledged the concerns and assured businesses of the government’s support.

“I know that there has been some new legislation under the new Customs Act, which the Free Zones industries are complaining about because it has rolled back some of the incentives they received,” he said.

He added that the government was committed to helping local industries expand their operations and create jobs.

“So, you can be assured that government is 100% behind you. We are going to help you so that you can grow your industries,” he said.

President Mahama stressed that domestic investors would receive the same attention as foreign investors, noting that the government wanted to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“We do not roll out the red carpet only for foreign investors. We roll it out also for domestic investors,” he added.
