The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has doled out a total of $2.5 million to the five Africa qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
A decision was reached at a meeting on the sidelines of the 2018 FIFA World Cup draw to have Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco and Senegal share the amount equally to prepare for the tournament.
Last month, at its Executive Committee meeting, the continent’s football governing body set up an ad hoc committee to explore opportunities to help the five countries in their preparations.
Chaired by Caf’s First Vice President Kwesi Nyantakyi, the committee has as members all the presidents of the football associations of the five countries.
Caf Executive Committee member Kalusha Bwalya is also a member. Qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in March, 2018 have been postponed indefinitely in an effort to give the African world cup representatives enough space to prepare for Russia 2018.
“The financial package will be used mainly to strengthen and improve the technical supervision of each team,” Caf said on its website. In addition, Caf will provide “fieldwiz” equipment, which is a technological device and physical performance measuring tool for outdoor team sports players.

Africa Cup of Nations expands to 24 teams from 2019 event in Cameroon https://www.adomonline.com/africa-cup-nations-expands-24-teams-2019-event-cameroon/ Fri, 21 Jul 2017 05:36:25 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=317211 The Africa Cup of Nations will be contested by 24 teams when the next tournament takes place in 2019, says the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
Caf’s executive committee rubber-stamped the proposal on Thursday at a meeting in the Moroccan capital Rabat.
Africa’s flagship sporting event has featured 16 teams since 1996.
A decision on whether the finals will be moved from January and February to June and July is still awaited.
The expansion of the tournament could create problems for Cameroon, which will host the next finals, with the Central African nation’s sports minister having to deny reports that preparations were behind schedule this week.
The move follows a two-day symposium organised by Caf president Ahmad to discuss the state of African football.
Further changes are expected but have yet to be announced.
