According to him, Otto Addo’s coaching performance has been a complete failure, hindering the progress and success of the national team.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, he said that despite the national team playing six matches in the qualifiers for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, the coach failed to secure a single victory for the team.

He explained that the team’s failure to win a single match out of six was due to the coach’s lack of competence.

“A coach who can’t beat even Sudan, Niger, or Angola—you played six matches, and we didn’t win a single one. Not even one. And you tell me we have a future with this coach?” he questioned.

Songo’s comments come after the Black Stars ended their AFCON qualification campaign in Group F with only three points, finishing last in the group.

This marked a historic low for the four-time African champions, who failed to secure a single victory during the group stage.

According to Songo, retaining Otto Addo as the coach is not a viable option for the long-term success of the team.

While he acknowledged the importance of continuity in coaching, he emphasised the need for competence.

“Yes, we want to keep coaches for the long term, but not an incompetent coach,” he stressed.

“If Ghana needs someone to coach the national team, we need the right coach—someone who can turn things around and can transform the team.”

He also said that while dissolving the Black Stars Management team would not entirely resolve the issue, he argued that the core problem lies with the coach.

“He [Otto Addo] is not a good coach. He’s incompetent—we’ve seen it. You played against Niger, Angola, and Sudan and couldn’t win a single match. How can you tell me that you’re good for the future,” he quizzed.

Songo called for the immediate dismissal of Otto Addo, noting that Ghana needs a coach with the vision and expertise to restore the Black Stars’ glory.

His comments come in the wake of the Black Stars’ poor start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola and followed that with a 1-1 draw against Niger in their second Group F match.

Reacting to the team’s performance, Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, questioned the GFA’s decision to bring back Addo, calling it a significant mistake.

Otto Addo was reappointed on a 34-month contract, with an option for a further 24 months.

Ghana currently sits third in the group with just one point, and they are set to face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a doubleheader in October.

Ghana’s Black Stars are set to face these two teams in their first matches of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers next month.

The team, which has not won the AFCON title in 43 years, will host Angola’s Palancas Negras in the opening Group F match at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by a game against Niger in Berkane on September 9.

Ahead of the games, Osei-Agyemang emphasized the importance of winning both matches and warned that no excuses would be accepted from the technical team led by Otto Addo.

His remark comes after all the athletes representing the West African country at the ongoing Olympics in France have failed to a win medal.

Rose Yeboah exited early in the high jump, while swimmers Harry Stacey and Joselle Alice Mensah did not advance.

Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu reached the semi-finals of the men’s 100m sprints but did not progress to the finals.

With the Relay Team now carrying the hopes of Ghana, Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo has called on them to lift the flag of Ghana high.

“All the athletes that went to Paris to represent Ghana at the Olympics have failed to win a medal,” he said on Fire for Fire on Adom TV.

“Our leaders have failed to invest in our sports. They have failed us and it is about time we wake up and do the needful. Our only hope is with the Relay Team and I am calling on them to make the country proud.

According to him, the Minister does not deserve to stay in office after failing to tell Ghanaians to budget for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Minister has been criticised after the disappointing performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He is under pressure to disclosed the budget and how it was utilised at the tournament.

In support, Countryman Songo, host of the “Fire-for-Fire” show on Adom TV charged the Sports Minister to be accountable to Ghanaians.

“You used funds from Ghanaian taxpayers, and yet you kept the budget information hidden. Why withhold the budget for the team from Ghanaians before the tournament? You promised to provide a report upon your return; however, this lacks adherence to our country’s laws,” remarked Songo.

Asserting the need for transparency, he pressed further, “They should now come forward and disclose how much of the money is remaining. With only three matches played and no camp in South Africa, we demand a comprehensive breakdown. Start from where they camped at the Kwame Kyei Complex in Kumasi.”

In a pointed critique, Songo underscored the urgency of the situation ahead of the December general elections.

“This is an election year, and Ghanaians deserve to know. The Sports Minister should step down immediately, providing an explanation and a detailed breakdown before his departure. At least, around 7.5 million dollars should be left. Given that no matches were won, accountability is crucial,” he added.

In a sharp counterargument, Songo laid blame on the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif criticizing the lack of action and accountability within the Ministry.

He expressed dismay over the undisclosed expenditures related to the team’s participation in the AFCON.

“Even for this AFCON, taxpayers were kept in the dark about our expenses. As a Sports Minister, the focus seems solely on football, but even in that aspect, there’s a lack of accountability. Money is allocated for tournaments, and yet we face continuous defeats,” Songo remarked in frustration.

Displeased with the Sports Minister’s performance, Countryman Songo called for his resignation, pointing to the absence of success in implementing proposed solutions for the Black Stars.

He echoed the sentiments of many Ghanaians demanding a change in leadership.

In response to Songo’s accusations, Jamal accused the sports journalist of harbouring a bias against the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif.

“Songo is aware of an agenda against the Football Association because which coach hasn’t been brought in,” Jamal stated.

Songo vehemently denied any ill intentions against the Minister, emphasizing that his primary goal is to see improvement and development in Ghanaian sports.

Following the Black Stars’ elimination, Chris Hughton has being sacked by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with a five-member committee being named to search for a new Black Stars coach in three weeks.

According to Countryman Songo, he campaigned for the appointment of Chris Hughton but has been left disappointed due to a series of poor results and performances.

Songo alleged that, the only thing keeping Chris Hughton from being sacked is Gabby Otchere-Darko said to be a good friend of the former Brighton and Hove Albion coach.

He added that, Black Stars will not achieve success at the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire if Hughton is in charge.

“Everyone is expecting Chris Hughton to be sacked because he is not good enough to send us to the AFCON but what is the ministry saying? The GFA has even written to the government demanding the dismissal of Chris Hughton but the ministry can’t act because of Gabby Otchere-Darko and also because they don’t trust the FA to do a good job when it comes to the replacement.

“Chris Hughton is not a match for me. He is a cheap match. I’m not happy with the sacking of coaches but he is not a good coach. I don’t fear anyone so if you aren’t a good coach, I will say it.

“I picked Chris Hughton over Otto Addo because of experience but look at his performance. There is no sign of goodness under him. If the FA were going to select a good coach, we would have backed them but the FA are pursuing their interest,” he said.

Patrick Osei Agyemang, known in the media space as Countryman Songo, emotionally went on his knees at Nhyira FM to appeal to Asante Kotoko supporters to attend the club’s matches in the Ghana Premier League.

He believes this will aid the club financially to be able to run the team professionally.

“Kotoko supporters, always come and support the team, management will always listen to you in the year 2023.

‘’We plead with them, beginning with the game against Olympics to do come in their numbers to the stadium and cheer the team to victory,” he said.

An elated Patrick Osei Agyeman said the recognition will propel him to give off his best.

According to him, the Sports Minister [Mustapha Ussif] must be sacked for failing to do the right thing before the World Cup.

“First of all, President Akufo-Addo must investigate the Ghana Football Association [GFA] led by Kurt Okraku and Mustapha Ussif, who is the Sports Minister,” he said.

“Friendly games were played before the World Cup and there was no accountability. EOCO and Auditor-General must investigate them. We were told supporters will not be taken to Qatar but over 3,000 fans were flown to Qatar and they must explain.

“The Sports Minister is involved in the activities of the Black Stars because there is money there and he is the bigger problem and he must be sacked by Akufo -Addo because he has no legacy.

“He led the team to the 2021 Afcon and he failed. He led the team to Qatar and he failed.

“Kurt Okraku appointed a part-time coach and now look at where we are today. We are out of the tournament and it is embarrassing,” he added.

Ghana exited the tournament with three points and finished at the bottom.

Meanwhile, the Sports Minister in a statement on Sunday confirmed that the performance of the Black Stars will be reviewed.

Ghana, in the past 12 months has had a torrid campaign in both the continental and world tournament.

Black Stars’ hopes of progressing from the group stages came to an end after sworn rivals, Uruguay beat the West Africans for the second time after more than a decade.

They shared fond memories of Songo before presenting him with a birthday cake.

An emotional Countryman Songo was beside himself with joy while appreciating the gesture of the team.

The indefatigable sports presenter of Adom TV has been gifted another year to ‘set fire’ to the sports sector while seeking appropriate measures to boost Ghana’s sports.

Joining the many Ghanaians to wish Songo, the Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko has sent a massive shout out to him.

They flaunted the man who doubles as the club’s match and product promotion communication member for his dedication towards his work.

Other dignified stakeholders have flooded social media with their warm wishes.

On Wednesday, the unfortunate news which shook many fans was Ogum’s resignation in less than 10 months in charge.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosiisen Show on Thursday, Osei-Agyemang said the gaffer’s decision was irreversible due to his ‘behaviour’ towards the club’s Board members.

“I can say the management has fallen out with Ogum, no communication can help us work and plan with the coach in the future,” he said.

According to him, the former WAFA trainer had always ‘acted arrogant’ around technical management but surprisingly his behaviour during the meeting with the board was uncalled for.

“In fact the actions of the coach sometimes we feel its the management level and we know how to talk with him.

“But surprisingly he repeated the attitude with the board during the meeting. In his words he feels and believes he is a PHD doctor so if he speaks its final,” he said.

“The way he behaves sometimes I think he wants everyone in the management to be scared of him,” he added.

He revealed that some members of the board had tried to calm him to retract his words but Ogum refused and insisted he wanted to resign.

The unfortunate news of Mr Ogum’s resignation with three weeks to kick start their pre-season campaign has left fans shocked.

However, when asked about whether the gaffer’s decision would affect the club’s plan next season, Mr Osei-Agyemang assured fans that the club was already ahead of the situation and had solutions after the coach’s decision.

“No way, as at now if you ask us to name a new coach we will be able to that. This very moment we can announce his replacement if we are asked,” he said on Asempa FM Ekosiisen Show.

“We are just waiting for his official resignation letter before we name his replacement,” he assured fans.

“Nana Yaw Amponsah and Co are on top of the game. We are going to Africa and want to make sure we leave a mark. At the end of the day he has decided to resign so he should go,” he added.

Kotoko are set to participate in the CAF Champions League next season.

Songo, who takes inspiration from Bob Marley, has inked a tattoo of the face of the late superstar on his arm.

Known privately as Patrick Osei Agyemang, the host of Adom TV’s ‘Fire for Fire’ traveled to San Sebastian to employ the services of the best tattooist in Costa Rica.

The presenter shared videos of the moment he subdued his pain to get the beautiful artwork.

Countryman Songo has always professed his love for Bob Marley and he has proved the extent with the tattoo.

According to him, he takes inspiration from Bob Marley to do his popular show on Adom TV.

“Forever loving Jah and ambush in the night are my favourite Bob Marley quotes” Songo said.

Mr. Okraku who has been in Europe visited the Southampton centre back to discuss the possibility of playing for the national team.

According to the ‘Fire-for-Fire’ host, Mr. Okraku’s meeting with Salisu was unwarranted, adding that, such meeting should be the preserve of the national team coach.

“When was the last time the Black Stars won a match, you celebrate things you don’t have to celebrate. Is the FA President the one to call players?”, he quizzed.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salisu blamed managers of Ghana football for the decision taken by many foreign-based players not to play for the Black Stars.

Salisu is currently one of the best young players in Europe, having made an impressive start to the season at Southampton.

The former Real Valladolid defender is expected to make the Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] next month and the 2022 World Cup after turning down several call ups, citing personal reasons.

He parked his SUV and rode behind a tricycle (aboboyaa) from his home to Kokomlemle, where his worksite, Adom TV, is situated.

In a statement copied to Adomonline.com, the APC said the appointment was due to his years of tremendous experience, expertise, knowledge, and understanding of the media landscape within and outside Africa.

Songo expressed his gratitude to the President of the APC, Samson Deen after accepting the appointment.

“I want to thank Samson Deen for believing in me and giving me this opportunity,” he told Adomonline.com.

The Black Stars coaching job has been vacant following the sacking of Milovan Rajevac after Ghana’s abysmal performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon.

Officials of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], according to reports, are in Germany to hold talks with Otto Addo for the vacant position.

Meanwhile, Chris Hughton, who is in Ghana, has been strongly linked to the job.

However, according to Osei-Agyemang aka Countryman Songo, there is no need to appoint a full-time manager but rather appoint Kwesi Appiah, Ibrahim Tanko and Didi Dramani for the 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria and after the game, a substantive coach is appointed.

“Kurt Okraku took the Black Stars to the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and after a disastrous campaign, he had no courtesy to even apologise to the people of Ghana,” he said on Fire-for-Fire on Adom TV.

“You have flown to Germany to hold talks with Otto Addo for the Black Stars job. You did the same thing when Milovan Rajevac was appointed and it backfired so why the rush?

“The FA is also rushing in making decisions but this time, we will not allow that to happen.

“The Sports Minister [Mustapha Ussif] must be up and doing. He is too calm but he must stop Kurt Okraku from flexing his muscle.

“Kurt Okraku is disrespecting President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government and the Sports Minister must look sharp and stop him from flexing his muscles.

“No need to rush to appoint a new coach. We have local coaches that have been with the national team and against Nigeria for the playoff, these are the guys that we must resort to because we have less than two months for the game.

“Bringing these local coaches and when we qualify, then we discuss the way forward in bringing in a new coach but at the moment Otto Addo is not needed at the Black Stars,” he added.

Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of the playoff before travelling to Abuja for the return leg in March. The winner will make it to the Mundial in Qatar.

His bold decision was to express his web of emotions in the ongoing AFCON as well as his latest post at the management level of Porcupine Warriors, Asante Kotoko.

Following Black Stars’ premature departure in the group stages of the tournament after an abysmal performance, Countryman has been left disheartened.

Another reason is his rebranding efforts to blend into Kotoko’s Communication Team where he will be in charge of match and project promotions.

To Songo, real name Patrick Agyemang, the enviable appointment offers him an opportunity to serve his ‘boyhood’ club.

He appeared on set on Adom TV with partially shaved hair. His long dreadlocks were cut to quarter length, giving him that ‘bossy’ look.

The club released a press statement on Tuesday, 18th January, 2021 and said he will be in charge of match and product promotion.

The contract will take immediate effect until the end of 2022/23 Ghana Premiere League season.

Countryman Songo appointed as member of Asante Kotoko Communications Team by Dennis Adu on Scribd

The Serbian gaffer was awarded a one-year deal after CK Akonnor was shown the exit in October by the Ghana Football Association [GFA].

However, the 63-year-old has come under intense pressure after Ghana’s shocking start in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon.

According to Mr Agyemang, who is also known as Countryman Songo, he suspects foul play from some GFA Executive Council members who have a stake in Milovan’s return because the Serbian coach has been rejected by most teams and has been unemployed for two years.

He stressed that the coach has not improved on his tactics since his last stint with the Black Stars.

“The so-called football people have employed an archaic coach who has not learnt anything. Every team has sacked Milovan, he has been unemployed for two years. This tournament has exposed the coach, everyone now knows he has not learnt anything new,” the host of Fire-for-Fire on Adom TV said on Asempa FM.

“It’s all because of the corruption within the FA. We have to investigate the committee that appointed the coach. Government of Ghana, President Akufo-Addo, Sports Minister let’s investigate the committee because they have been a disservice to the country. Look at the rubbish we are playing as if we don’t have good players,” he fumed.

The Black Stars have recorded their worst start ever at the Africa Cup of Nations after playing two matches without a win under the guidance of the Serbian tactician.

Ghana suffered a defeat to Morocco and managed a draw with Gabon.

The Black Stars’ chances of qualifying out of the group stages are currently hanging as they prepare for their last group game against Comoros on Tuesday.

The interview comes on today, Thursday, December 23.

Songo was out of the country for a professional engagement in the United Kingdom, paving way for his stand-in, Kobby Stonne to host his show.

By virtue of his unshaken position in the sports industry as an agenda setter, Songo was handed the role of leading Ghana’s Paralympic team to meet the Mayor of Luton, Maria Lovell.

The meeting, which happened on August 11, saw both parties agreeing on how to include and make sports friendly for the physically challenged as the country readies for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022.

After two weeks of being off air, the ever-bubbly and knowledgeable Songo, real name Patrick Osei Agyemang, will grace the screens again.

Akonnor, 47, was appointed in 2019 but seems to be enduring a spell as the head coach of the national team.

After working for over 18 months, Akonor and his assistant, David Duncan, are yet to be fully paid.

The Sports Ministry has only paid Akonnor and Duncan their first five months in office.

With 2022 World Cup qualifiers and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] qualifiers coming up, Mr Agyemang, known for his ‘no-nonsense’ style of presentation, called on Mustapha Ussif and the Sports Ministry to ensure all debts are paid before the qualifiers start of before the Afcon kicks off.

“It is sometimes sad because why do you appoint a coach and you can’t pay him,” Songo asked during his Fire for Fire Show on Adom TV.

“CK Akonnor is our own and we must support him in all aspects because he must ensure Black Stars win the 2021 Afcon in Cameroon.

“They must be motivated to ensure they give us a good call up. It is a difficult job to do and the Minister must ensure all debt are paid before the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers starts,” he added.

CK Akonnor has been tasked to win the Afcon and play in the semis of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Akonnor is believed to be on a $25,000 monthly salary.
