The arrest, which occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2025, followed a formal complaint filed by Xandy Kamel in collaboration with the Ghana Copyright Office.

According to officials, FAST TV allegedly broadcast copyrighted content from Kamel’s movie Unseen Beauty without authorisation. The film is currently streaming on her YouTube channel, XandyKamelsTV.

Despite receiving prior warnings and notices, the station reportedly continued airing the material, prompting legal action.

The arrest was made possible through the support of the Copyright Monitoring Team and the assistance of Mr. Socrate Safo, a long-time advocate for copyright enforcement in Ghana.

Commenting on the development, Xandy Kamel said:
“I have always believed in standing up for what is right, not just for myself but for every Ghanaian creative whose work is exploited or stolen. This is not personal. It’s a clear message that copyright laws in Ghana must be respected.”

Officials from the Ghana Copyright Office confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more details will be shared as the case unfolds.

NFA to take strict actions against TV stations airing unauthorised content https://www.Adomonline.com/nfa-to-take-strict-actions-against-tv-stations-airing-unauthorised-content/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 11:13:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529412 The National Film Authority (NFA) has raised serious concerns over the growing unauthorised use and broadcast of creative content across several Ghanaian television stations.

According to the Authority, this worrying trend violates the country’s copyright laws and poses a major threat to the sustainability of Ghana’s creative industry.

In a statement, the NFA revealed that it has received multiple complaints from both local and international content owners regarding the illegal airing of films, series, and other audiovisual works on both traditional and digital television platforms.

The NFA explained that such actions infringe on the rights of content creators and undermine investments in the creative sector.

Citing the Copyright Act, 2005 (Act 690), the NFA reminded all broadcasters that the public performance or broadcast of copyrighted content without permission from rights holders is illegal and punishable by law.

“As the national regulator of the film and audiovisual sector, the NFA is committed to protecting the rights of content producers. We are working closely with relevant institutions to investigate and take appropriate actions against television stations involved in unauthorized airing. Offenders risk having their licenses suspended or revoked,” the statement read.

The Authority further urged all television stations to regularize their content by securing proper licensing agreements, respecting intellectual property rights, upholding ethical broadcasting standards, and ensuring that all films and audiovisual content are classified before airing.

The NFA stressed that Ghana’s creative economy has significant potential for national development, job creation, and international recognition. However, this growth can only be realized if intellectual property rights are respected.

The Authority also called on all media platforms to fairly compensate content creators and contribute to building a thriving, lawful creative industry in Ghana.

Kuami Eugene in trouble https://www.Adomonline.com/kuami-eugene-in-trouble/ Thu, 10 Jun 2021 17:14:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1971901 Kuami Eugene, Ghana’s reigning Musician of the Year has been sued, his record label, Lynx Entertainment has confirmed.

Richie Mensah, manager of Kuami Eugene, has disclosed his artiste is in court for copyright infringement, as served by a Ghanaian-based Nigerian artiste.

The Rockstar has been accused of sampling a song titled Show Body and also incorporating some elements of the accuser’s visuals into his new song with a similar title.

But, Richie has described the accusation as ‘nonsense and rubbish’, defending his artiste with proof of when the said song, featuring Nigeria’s Falz was recorded and released.

“Anybody who listens to the two songs will see that there is no similarity whatsoever. The only similarity is that they are both called Show Body. However, they released their song in August and in July, Kuami Eugene announced his album tracklist and Show Body is one of the songs on the tracklist. In May, Falz sent his verse and in July, we published it. Because our video came out in October, they were thinking theirs came before Eugene’s,” Richie clarified.

Legally, Richie is confident the accusers have no case, as both songs were released a month apart, and theirs took the lead.

To him, Kuami Eugene has ‘talkability’ and people try to feed off his fame with fake news and allegations, adding that he believes it’s a similar script being played.
