The government was constructing a new bridge over River Boin at Boinso in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region before the old bridge collapsed.

However, the contractor working on the new bridge, Extreme Engineering Works Limited, left the site due to financial issues.

Now, government has released funds for the contractor to mobilize their equipment and continue the project.

The Managing Director of Extreme Engineering Works Limited, Kumi Korsah confirmed to Adom News that, government has provided funds to continue the bridge.

He assured the residents and travelers in the area of their readiness to expedite work on the new bridge to ease movement for the people.

The NPP parliamentary candidate for Aowin constituency, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini, popularly known as NPP Abanga, who led the contractor to the site, said it was the effort of the Vice-President and the Roads Minister that got the contractor back to the site.

He added that, it is a sign of the government’s commitment to the people.

They have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization to provide them with a lifejacket as authorities take steps to reconstruct the bridge.

With the bridge no longer usable, they have resorted to crossing the river by canoe, raising significant safety concerns.

The collapse has disrupted daily activities, as the bridge was a crucial link for both locals and travellers.

Now, the only way to traverse the river is by canoe, which poses a significant risk, especially for those unfamiliar with water travel or during adverse weather conditions.

In response to this situation, the Assemblyman for Boinso Electoral Area, Lewis Tetteh urgently appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to provide lifejackets to prevent potential casualties.

The community fears that without proper safety measures, the likelihood of accidents will occur.

Meanwhile, the Western North Regional National Disaster Management Organization Director, Evans Austin Brew has urged the residents in the area to be cautious when crossing the river to prevent any casualty.

He further indicated that the government would do everything possible to secure the safety of the people living in the area.

The Minister assured residents that efforts to reconstruct the bridge would commence immediately to restore normalcy in the area.

The bridge, which serves as the sole connection between Enchi and Elubo, collapsed on Sunday morning, leaving residents and travelers frustrated and stranded.

It also caused significant disruption to daily commutes and the transportation of goods.

While no casualties were reported, the collapse has isolated Boinso and surrounding communities, impacting local businesses and access to essential services.

In response to the situation, Regional Minister Joojo Rocky Obeng, accompanied by the Western North Regional Highway Director, Ing. Ernest Osei Bonsu, inspected the damage and engaged with local chiefs and residents.

The Minister assured the community that discussions with the Roads Minister and other key stakeholders are underway to expedite the reconstruction of the bridge.

He said the government is commitment to rebuilding the bridge as swiftly as possible to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods in the area.

The Western North Regional Highway Director, Ing. Ernest Osei Bonsu, expressed confidence in their ability to rebuild the bridge within three weeks, contingent upon the availability of funds.

Meanwhile, efforts are being made to expedite the construction of a new bridge to provide a more permanent solution.
