During a recent cleanup exercise, Head Pastor of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Eric Herbert Acheampong, told Adom News that the church has launched an initiative called the “Environmental Care Campaign.”

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about sanitation and encourage regular cleanup activities.

Pastor Acheampong noted that many individuals, particularly shopkeepers, appear indifferent to maintaining a clean environment, as seen in their limited participation in the exercise, which was attended by the paramount queen mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa.

He emphasized that the church will continue its educational efforts and organize more cleanup initiatives to safeguard the environment and the community’s well-being.

Additionally, Pastor Cerphas Boatey, Coordinator of the Environmental Care Campaign, expressed concern about people littering without understanding the health risks involved. He urged Ghanaians, especially residents of Goaso, to adopt good sanitation practices for their own safety and that of others.

Church of Pentecost launches ‘Ministry to Okada Riders’ to promote road safety in Volta https://www.adomonline.com/church-of-pentecost-launches-ministry-to-okada-riders-to-promote-road-safety-in-volta/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 11:36:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2581818 The Sogakope Area Chapter of the Church of Pentecost in the Volta Region has launched a new initiative to promote road safety and discipline among commercial motorbike riders, popularly known as okada riders.

Dubbed “Ministry to Okada Riders,” the programme is the first of its kind by a church in the region. It aims to address safety and security challenges confronting the over 3.5 million okada riders nationwide, while complementing government efforts to regulate their operations.

As part of the launch, riders embarked on a 30-minute procession through Sogakope before converging at the ceremony, which drew officials from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), and the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC).

Pastor Edward Brains Agidi-Quarshie, Sogakope Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, said the initiative reflects the church’s commitment to responding to social concerns affecting the community.

Municipal Chief Executive, Victoria Dzeklo, praised the riders for their contribution to crime reduction in the area but urged them to remain vigilant and security-conscious. Tongu Divisional MTTD Commander, ASP Victor Mensah Sekey, also cautioned against reckless riding and assured that his outfit would intensify education and enforcement.

National President of the Okada Riders’ Association, Michael Kofi Owusu, commended the church for its intervention and appealed to the DVLA to make licensing processes more affordable and transparent to prevent extortion.

So far, about 3,000 riders have been registered in parts of the Volta Region as part of the nationwide exercise.

The facility, beyond serving the people of Yawmatwa, is also expected to cater to surrounding communities, including portions of neighboring Ivory Coast, due to its strategic location along the border.

Built as part of the Church’s social services initiative, the clinic aligns with its Vision 2028 agenda — a long-term plan to transform lives and communities through both spiritual impact and practical, infrastructural development.

At the official commissioning, Pastor Frank Awuah Fordjour, Area Head for Essam-Debiso, underscored the critical need for such an intervention in remote areas where healthcare access remains a challenge.

“This is a practical demonstration of our ministry philosophy — meeting both the spiritual and physical needs of the people. We believe this clinic will be a life-saving asset for the community,” he said.

The clinic boasts a consultation unit, a fully functional maternity ward, a pharmacy, and in-patient wards, all set to operate in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service to ensure proper staffing and long-term sustainability.

The project was welcomed with gratitude by residents, traditional leaders, and health professionals. Nana Yaw Berima Donkor, Kontihene of Sehwi Yawmatwa, speaking on behalf of the chief and the entire community, lauded the Church of Pentecost for its commitment to national development and for delivering a facility that will undoubtedly save lives.

With this new facility, the Church continues to reinforce its dedication to holistic ministry — going beyond church walls to uplift communities physically, socially, and spiritually.

Church of Pentecost sends message to members over Dec 7 elections https://www.adomonline.com/church-of-pentecost-sends-message-to-members-over-dec-7-elections/ Mon, 19 Feb 2024 10:42:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2358188 The District Pastor of the Church of Pentecost Ho SSNIT FLAT, Pastor Peter Adams have advised members to become bearers of peace as the country prepares for the December 7 general election, to help educate the public on the importance of sustainable reconciliation.

He was speaking in an interview with Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job when the church held its area week celebration.

The pastor admonished the church’s leadership to make peace message a central part of their sermon as any disruption in the political process would affect everybody regardless of political affiliation.

“I urge every church member to be a bearer of the peace message, how can you worship in a disrupted nation. Look at neighboring countries such as, Liberia, Sierra Leone where they have been affected by war, they wished it never happened but it did. The loss of lives, the psychological scars and the trauma they went through. They failed to appreciate the peace they were enjoying and urging all my church members to be agents of peace,” he preached.

He also seized the opportunity to call on heads of other churches to use their platforms to educate their members on the need to have peace before, during and after elections.

“Election is not about war, it’s about choice. The word of God is all about peace. We have had series of elections before. We have had elections in this country before so the pastors must use the opportunity they have to always talk about peace to their congregants. As we pursue our civil role it’s our responsibility to pursue the peace agenda as Christians,” he said.

He noted that, despite the positive role of social media, the youth should be guided to enable them use it in a positive way rather than using it for negative purposes.

Pastor Adams asked the youth not to allow themselves to be used as instrument to foment trouble, but rather be used as agent of peace.

UPPR partners Church of Pentecost in plastic waste collection https://www.adomonline.com/uppr-partners-church-of-pentecost-in-plastic-waste-collection/ Fri, 25 Nov 2022 15:09:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2188394 UPPR Ghana Limited, a plastic recycling and production company, has partnered the Church of Pentecost, a leading Pentecostal church in Ghana in its plastic recycling and collection efforts.

Under the programme, church leaders will educate their members to segregate their plastic waste from other forms of waste and forward them to aggregators who will in turn sell them to UPPR Ghana Limited.

The Church of Pentecost, as part of its Vision 2023 document of its current Chairman Apostle Eric Nyamekye, focuses on environmental education among its members and tree planting activities among others.

UPPR Ghana Limited, which is located at Borteyman, Accra produces waste bins, buckets, chairs and bin liners among others products.

Speaking at a pilot event at Church of Pentecost, James Mckeown Assembly in the Ashaiman Area on Saturday, November 19, 2022, the Area Head for Agormanya and the Coordinator for National Discipleship and Leadership Development Committee (NDLDC) Apostle Samuel Gakpetor said the exercise is necessary to help the country rid itself of Plastic waste, while making good use of the plastics collected.

He said Plastic waste is causing a lot of havoc around and impacting negatively on the health of people even in the country. He therefore called on all church members to participate actively in the exercise which he said would be rolled out nationwide soon.

UPPR Ghana Limited was selected to partner the church because the company has the requisite machinery to process the plastic waste into other usable items that will benefit society

The Chairman of the Plastic Waste Management Committee of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Davidson Edzii lauded the Vision 2023 and the Environmental Care Campaign of the church.

He said the two pilot projects held in Bompata Area on 28th September 2022 and the Ashaiman even on November 19th, 2022 respectively is an indication that the project will be highly successful.

He said the process will also open up on opportunities for church members who will serve as aggregators while members will also benefit from their plastic waste.

On her part, a representative of UPPR Ghana Limited Mrs Isabella Gyau Orhin paid glowing tribute to the vision 2023.

“What UPPR and COP are doing is extra ordinary, the issues around environment has often ended in discussions, with very little or no action,” she said.

According to her, the two successful pilot programmes indicate that a national rollout is possible.

“With this sourcing at source, little or no plastic waste will end up on the land fill site,” she said.

The Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annang Adzor said he was very much interested in the project and would take part to help keep the country clean.

The Area Head of Ashaiman, Aposlte David kankam Beditor was grateful to the leadership for choosing Ashaiman as part of the Pilot programme.

A circular dated Saturday, November 5 to all assemblies of the church asked members “to pray and intercede for the nation and the global community.”

“We should also pray for wisdom for our leaders to find immediate solutions to these challenges,” the circular, signed by Chairman of COP Apostle Eric Nyamekye, requested.

The fasting and prayers, which are scheduled to end on Sunday, November 13, will be observed on the theme: ‘So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He answered our prayer’ (Ezra 8:23).

All assemblies have been asked to go about their existing programmes for the week, nonetheless.

“These prayer and fasting sessions may be fused with any existing programme scheduled for the week.

“All Area Heads and ministers are to get involved and organise these meetings at any convenient level that will yield the maximum result.”

Apostle Nyamekye also encouraged church members not to despair in these trying times but “to keep trusting God with the belief that He will respond to our prayers and bring relief to the nation”.

He concluded: “May the Lord pour on the church the spirit of supplication, and the burden to stand in the gap and build a hedge for the nation.”

In a tribute to ‘Captain’ as they affectionately called Elvis Kwashie, the Church said they could hardly believe or accept the news of his passing.

“However, in all things, we give thanks to God because He alone knows best,” the Church added.

The Church honoured Elvis for the exemplary and instrumental role he played while alive and part of the Ministry.

“As a vessel of honour, always ready for his master’s use, he held other positions and played numerous roles in the district. For example, he was a key member of the district finance and ministerial committees.

“He was once a Local youth executive member, District youth executive member and District youth secretary during his short but impactful life.

“He played all these roles as well as all the other responsibilities entrusted to him superbly until his call into eternal glory,” the Church said.

According to the Church, Elvis would always be remembered “for his constructive criticism and for speaking his mind freely at meetings without fear or favour.”

The Mataheko Assembly also noted that through Elvis’ impactful and exemplary leadership, many people have become more committed Christians and leaders.

“Captain, we miss you, we wish to have you with us a little longer, but only God knows why He called you at this time.

“You fought a good fight, and you have run your race. Rest peacefully in the bosom of your maker Elder Elvis Kwashie. Koku, rest well,” they added.

Anti LGBTQ+ bill: Akufo-Addo must assent immediately after passage – Former Pentecost Secretary https://www.adomonline.com/anti-lgbtq-bill-akufo-addo-must-assent-immediately-after-passage-former-pentecost-secretary/ Tue, 12 Oct 2021 15:21:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2027383 A former General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Alfred Koduah has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to immediately assent to the Anti LGBTQ+ Bill when it is finally passed by Parliament.

The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values’ 2021 Bill famously known as the Anti LGBTQ+ bill has gained a lot of attention, locally and internationally.

Amid heightened calls for its passage, others want it quashed with the argument that it is against the fundamental human rights of persons involved in the act.

Clergymen and traditionalists have all jumped into the frail threatening to campaign against MPs who vote against the passage of the bill.

It is on the back of this that Apostle Dr Alfred Koduah is urging President Akufo- Addo to quickly assent to the bill immediately Parliament passes it.

“I want to see the president appending his signature to this bill as soon as it is passed by Parliament because this is so dear to the heart of Ghanaians. If you look at Ghana from the political angle, you will see that the country is polarized which affects everything in this country but with this particular, you have NPP and NDC all coming together.”

The church, in a communiqué signed by its Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, said it is obvious that the conspiracy theories cannot be “substantiated and are not sustainable”

The church also cautioned their ministers, officers and members to avoid using the platforms of the church to fuel and promote myths, controversies and falsehood to misinform people and members on the usefulness and benefit of COVID-19 vaccines.

It, however, noted that its position does not in any way take away the right of individual members to either accept or refuse a vaccine based on their own personal reasons.

The church also urged its members to be wary of depending solely on social media for information, especially about the vaccines as it is saturated with false information.

Church of Pentecost rallies Ghanaians for peaceful elections [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/church-of-pentecost-rallies-ghanaians-for-peaceful-elections-photos-2/ Mon, 07 Dec 2020 07:56:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1889851 The Adwen-Bu District of The Church of Pentecost under the Kaneshie Area has climaxed its Agent of Peace Campaign with a float and a launch to intensify its outreach to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.

The impending 2020 general elections demand that stakeholders pool resources together to ensure that the event passes as the most peaceful exercise in the history of the country.

The Church of Pentecost has over the years committed its members nationwide to be responsible and peaceful citizens as Agents of Peace.

It is based on this conviction that the Adwen-Bu District of The Church of Pentecost organized a Peace Walk on Friday morning, capping it with the Agent of Peace Campaign launch.

It brought together politicians, the Ghana Police Service, National Commission for Civic Education, religious leaders and a host of others.

The event was aimed, among others, at commissioning members of the Church as Agents of Peace into the Ablekuma Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region where the District is traditionally located and anywhere they find themselves.

During the Peace Walk, youth of the six Local Assemblies making the District – Central (Salem), English, Mt Moriah, Hermon, Dromoshia and Emmanuel Assembly – combed through the Ablekuma Central constituency displaying placards with inscriptions such as: We Need Each Other for A Better Ghana;  Your Tongue is like a Fire – Watch What You Say; Godly Values Pillars for Nation Building; I Stand for Peace; Free, Fair and Credible Elections; Peace Not Chaos; Be an Agent of Peace.

Launching the campaign, the Adwen-Bu District Pastor, Rev. William Ofori-Attah admonished all to seek peace and pursue it, stressing the need for all to live in peace with everyone.

He quoted from 1 Peter 3: 10-11, which states in part that whoever loves life must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.

Adwen-Bu District Pastor, Rev. William Ofori-Attah

“If you want to live long, stay away from the use of foul language but rather say and do things that will bring progress,” Rev. William Ofori-Attah told the gathering.

Comfort Azalletey, Director of NCCE Ablekuma Central Municipality advised Ghanaians not to allow politics to divide them.

Using Romans 12 : 18 as a reference point which entreats  all to be responsible and peace seekers, she pointed out to all to do their maximum best to live with each other in peace.

She also took the gathering through election regulations, the steps and processes at the polling centre, and how to cast your vote to minimize the number of rejected ballots.

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Hon. Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey implored all to “preach and demonstrate peace” at all times.

He stated that peace is an essential commodity and therefore underscored the need to talk about peace at every given opportunity and not when there is an election.

A Representative of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Christian Geraldo stated that the police service is well equipped and ready to quell activities of trouble makers in order to maintain the peace in the country.

He therefore implored all to comply with rules and regulations outlined for the election.

Though the Parliamentary of the National Democratic Congress, Abdul-Latif Dan could not make it to the event, he sent his emissary to assure the Church of his commitment to peace.

The gathering was led by Pastor William Ofori-Attah to commit to peace before, during and after the general elections. The Presiding Elder of the Central Assembly Elder Albert Joseph Quarm led the choir to sing patriotic songs to draw the curtain to end the event.

Church clerk granted bail for stealing https://www.adomonline.com/church-clerk-granted-bail-for-stealing/ Fri, 16 Oct 2020 19:54:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1868874 A 30-year-old clerk of the Pentecost District at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, Gregory Osei Donkor has appeared before a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for allegedly forging documents and stealing GH₵ 107,746.92 belonging to the Church.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges of possessing forged documents and stealing and the Court, presided over by Dorinda Smith Arthur, admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢54,000 with two sureties to be justified.

One of the sureties should have a landed property worth GHc60,000 while the other a government worker earning at least GHc2,500.

His next appearance is on Thursday, October 29, 2020.

Prosecuting, Inspector Gilbert Ayongo told the court that Mr James Ato Hagan, a tutor at Obiri Yeboah Senior High School, and an Elder of the Church, was the complainant.

He said in 2017 the accused was employed by the Church executives, who are witnesses in the case, to receive money accruing from offerings and tithes from all the branches of the Church at Assin Fosu.

He was to deposit same into the District Church Account at the Assin Fosu branch of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB).

He said in November 2019 and February 2020, the witnesses issued two cheques valued at Ghc27,000 and Ghc21,000 respectively to be transferred into the Church’s Area account.

In March 2020, complainant had a phone call from the said Bank that the cheques had bounced due to insufficient funds in the Church Account for the transaction.

Complainant then informed the witnesses and they suspected the accused to have committed the act.

Gregory was then invited and questioned by the Church executives and he vehemently denied the claims and later submitted a statement of account to back his denial.

Complainant and witnesses, unsatisfied with the statement of account the accused issued, engaged the services of the District Audit team to audit the District Church including all the branches.

It came to light that from 2018 to 2020, the accused embezzled the sum of Ghc54,448.92.00, without depositing the exact amount into the Church’s account.

On Saturday, July 4, complainant lodged a report with the Police and the accused was arrested.

In the course of investigation, the Police received a statement of account in respect of the Church’s District Account, revealing that the statement of account the accused issued was forged.

Per the Bank’s statement, the Police detected that the accused secretly deposited a sum of Ghc18,000 into the Church Account after he was questioned by the  executives.

Police found that the accused had forged the signature of the signatories to the Account and managed to withdraw GH¢53,298.00.

The accused later deposited Ghc27,000 into the Church Account.

In all he embezzled cash amounting to Ghc107,746.92 and during investigations, the Police retrieved Ghc55,026.00 from him.

After investigation Donkor was charged with the offence.

Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, said they are ready to officiate a service with less than 25 people during the funeral service in accordance with President Nana Akufo-Addo’s directive.

This, he explained, is to ensure church members don’t incur debt at the morgue in their bid to give the deceased a befitting burial.

“We have taken a firm decision to encourage members to bury their dead and later do the funeral rites at a later date,” Apostle Nyamekye stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

He noted that, a circular has been sent to all districts across the country for them to comply with the directives.

On weddings and other activities of the church, the Pentecost Chairman said they have suspended all of them until further notice.

Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has underscored the importance of fasting and prayers in this coronavirus era.

ALSO READ:

He said though the fight against the pandemic is science driven, the spiritual aspect also plays a crucial role in finding a cure.

Apostle Nyamekye was reacting to concerns raised by many after the Christian Council of Ghana declared a three-day national prayer and fasting session to pacify the land of Ghana.

The critics believe the COVID-19 pandemic is beyond spirituality, thus, fasting and prayers are needless.

However, Apostle Nyamekye on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday said the role of the church at this time cannot be under-estimated.

“We believe in science but God is supreme. He gave the scientists the knowledge so it is important we seek the face of God,” he stressed.
