On the theme: “Uniting the Body of Christ for Greater Impact”, the convention aims to strengthen Christian unity across denominations within the country and the diaspora.

The event, slated to come on at the University of Ghana, will feature seminars, workshops, awards, health sessions, and the launch of a financial literacy and entrepreneurship programme.

Key objectives include empowering local church councils, promoting collaboration, enhancing leadership capacity, and building a unified Christian voice on national issues.

The convention will bring together members of the five pioneering churches — Methodist Church Ghana, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Anglican Church, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, alongside participants from other denominations, with the aim of fostering unity within the Christian community.

Committee

The committee, chaired by the Founder and Director of the Mills Institute, Koku Anyidoho, also has as members the Director of Programmes and Advocacy, CCG, Joyce Larko Steiner, the Coordinator of Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Rev. Jehoiada Godwin Amuzu, and the Senior Pastor, Christian Discipleship Ministry, Rev. Christian Kwaku Tsikata.

The rest are an Information Technology Officer at CCG, Stephen Osafo Amoateng, the Senior Pastor of KABOD Solid Foundation, Rev. Mark Quaye, and the Programmes Coordinator, CCG, Salome Kadi Tetteh, as the Secretary.

Launch

Speaking at the launch of the committee today (October 1), the General Secretary of the CCG, Rev. Cyril Fayose, emphasised the significance of the event in light of the council’s upcoming 96th anniversary, reaffirming CCG’s long-standing commitment to ecumenism and nation-building.

“This convention is a significant step in promoting unity at the grassroots level, especially through our local councils of churches. Inspired by Jesus’ prayer in John 17:11, ecumenism underscores the importance of dialogue, collaboration and mutual respect among Christian bodies.”

“The Christian Council of Ghana Ecumenical Convention is envisioned as a strategic platform to strengthen these relationships and pursue collective impact in Ghana and beyond.

He extended invitation to corporate entities, philanthropists, Christian business leaders, individuals and organisations to support the upcoming Ecumenical Convention through sponsorships, either in cash or in kind.

Success

For his part, the Vice-Chairman of the CCG, Rev. Enoch Thompson, who inaugurated and prayed for the committee, urged its members to work diligently and collaboratively to ensure the successful organisation of the 2025 Ecumenical Convention.

Acceptance

For his part, the Chairman of the committee expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team overseeing the maiden Ecumenical Convention.

Mr Anyidoho stated that the convention would mark a new beginning as the Christian Council prepared for its centenary anniversary celebration.

Pledging full commitment on behalf of the committee, he affirmed their dedication to serving God and the country and to elevating the Council’s role in national development.

“It is an honour to be called upon to lead a group overseeing this maiden ecumenical convention. It’s not for church leaders or for the Christian Council to preach, it’s for sharing of ideas and to create that platform where it’s opening up for positive engagement.”

“On behalf of my colleagues, we are grateful and we pledge to work in the supreme interest of God and country and to bring glory to the Christian Council,” Mr Anyidoho said.

Mahama apologises to Christian Council and Catholic Bishops https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-apologises-to-christian-council-and-catholic-bishops/ Tue, 18 Feb 2025 15:05:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2505916 President John Mahama has apologized to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the oversight in failing to invite them to the National Education Forum.

Speaking at the launch in Ho on Tuesday, Mahama expressed regret over the omission and emphasized that the forum aims to promote inclusivity. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to engaging religious bodies in national conversations.

“Let me express my sincerest apologies on behalf of the planning committee of the forum to our stakeholders from the faith-based organizations for the unpardonable omission in your delayed invitation,” he stated.

The apology comes after the religious bodies jointly expressed disappointment over their exclusion from the important dialogue on education reforms.

Mahama acknowledged that the omission was swiftly rectified but reiterated that the apology was necessary.

“Since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure you have forgiven us,” he added. “We know you’re important stakeholders because you own many schools, and this educational forum is vital for bringing everyone together.”

The forum, which gathers education experts, policymakers, civil society groups, and religious leaders, aims to discuss strategies for improving Ghana’s education system.

Christian Council congratulates Mahama, urges peace amid post-election violence https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-congratulates-mahama-urges-peace-amid-post-election-violence/ Tue, 10 Dec 2024 15:10:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2482040 The Christian Council of Ghana has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his overwhelming victory in the December 7th elections.

They also commended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his swift concession, which demonstrated commitment to democratic principles.

“The Eminent Persons Group (EPG) of the Christian Council of Ghana extends heartfelt congratulations to President-elect His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for his overwhelming victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections held on Saturday, December 7th,” a statement signed by the Co-Chairman, Eminent Persons Group, Most Rev Dr Paul Boafo noted.

Expressing concern over post-election violence, including the burning of the Electoral Commission office in Damongo and attacks on public officials’ residences, the Council condemned these acts, which have led to property damage and loss of lives.

They urged Ghanaians, particularly supporters of both the NDC and NPP, to uphold peace and refrain from violence.

Citing biblical teachings, the Council called for calm and unity, reminding citizens that the country’s progress depends on collective efforts and respect for democracy.

“As we navigate this critical juncture, we arc reminded of biblical teachings that guide us through times of defeat. Proverbs 15:1 states, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” This wisdom encourages us to respond with grace rather than aggression. Additionally, Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us not to be anxious about anything but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, allowing His peace to guard our hearts and minds.

“We call upon both leadership and supporters from all political affiliations to prioritize peace and stability during this crucial period in our country’s development. The future of Ghana depends on our ability to come together as one nation, regardless of our political differences,” portions of the statement indicated.

They also commended the Ghana Police Service for efforts to restore order and encouraged leaders to prioritise stability and reconciliation.

The Christian Council appealed to all Ghanaians to embrace peace and work together to build a united and prosperous nation.

Christian Council calls for fairness, transparency ahead of 2024 elections https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-calls-for-fairness-transparency-ahead-of-2024-elections/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 18:22:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2450663 The Eminent Persons Group (EPG) of the Christian Council of Ghana is advocating for fairness and transparency before, during and after the 2024 election.

In this regard, the Council has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to enhance its methods and address issues raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), concerning the voter’s register.

In a statement, the Eminent group noted that, the NDC’s concerns if not resolved could impact the trust Ghanaians have in the EC.

“Nevertheless, the 2024 polls are being conducted under intensified skepticism, particularly due to concerns raised by the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding the 2024 voter’s register and related issues,” the statement read in parts.

“We therefore call on the Electoral Commissioner to elevate her consultations and participatory methods and ensure increased transparency and improved communication with stakeholders to cultivate confidence and trust. This is especially crucial in this election year,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the group has appealed to the NDC to ensure peace while exercising their rights and to avoid inciting their followers to act in ways that could disrupt the peace of the nation.

The EPG’s message follows the NDC’s ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration to intensify theIr  demands for a forensic audit of the voter’s register over alleged discrepancies.

Galamsey crisis: We should not tolerate such sins against humanity- Christian Council https://www.adomonline.com/galamsey-crisis-we-should-not-tolerate-such-sins-against-humanity-christian-council/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 19:51:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2447529 The Christian Council of Ghana has joined calls for the fight against illegal mining locally known as ‘galamsey to be intensified, stating that such sinful acts against humanity should not be tolerated.

The Council has said recent developments suggest a lack of political will in fighting the canker.

In the press release, it expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the dangers of the illegality which has polluted lands and water bodies.

“We demand that any individual, security service personnel, politician or chief found to be working to thwart the fight against illegal mining should be made to face the full rigors of the law. We wish to emphasize that galamsey has serious future health and economic repercussions for our country,” the statement read in parts.

The Council has urged the government, relevant agencies, institutions, and all Ghanaians to be bold and courageous in sustaining the campaign against the menace.

“It is therefore imperative for government to show strong commitment and roll out practical steps to end galamsey and start recovery of lands and water bodies that have been polluted by this evil practice,” it added.

The Council has also called on all Ghanaians to support the fight for the common good of the nation.

Ban galamsey until sustainable solutions are found – Christian Council https://www.adomonline.com/ban-galamsey-until-sustainable-solutions-are-found-christian-council/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 09:28:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2447124 The Christian Council of Ghana has joined the growing chorus calling for a complete and decisive ban on illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey.”

This appeal from the religious body comes as the devastating impact of galamsey on the environment, local communities, and Ghana’s future has reached alarming levels, prompting urgent calls from various quarters for swift and comprehensive action to curb the practice.

General Secretary of the Christian Council, Reverend Cyril Fayose, expressed deep concern about the existential threat illegal mining poses to the nation’s natural resources, particularly water bodies, farmlands, and ecosystems.

Reverend Fayose underscored the urgency of the situation, stressing that the galamsey menace requires immediate and decisive intervention.

He called for more than mere condemnations and reactive measures, advocating for a well-considered, comprehensive strategy to safeguard Ghana’s future.

“There should be a total ban, or at the very least, a moratorium on galamsey so we can reassess our approach. There are two possible paths forward,” Reverend Fayose said.

“One option is to completely ban small-scale mining, similar to how we prohibit mining in water bodies. Alternatively, if a total ban is not feasible, small-scale mining operations should at least be community-owned” he added.

Prophet Adom Kyei Duah warns Christian Council [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/prophet-adom-kyei-duah-warns-christian-council-watch/ Fri, 26 Jul 2024 12:49:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2426276 Founder and Leader of the Philadelphia Movement, Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei Duah, has issued a stern warning to the Christian Council of Ghana in response to a press statement they published about him.

Recently, Adom Kyei Duah announced that he has received divine instructions to replace all depictions of Jesus Christ with his own image, claiming this change would last for the next 500 years.

“Listen to me, for the next 500 years, the images of Jesus you see on calendars and in pictures around. I have been instructed to replace it with my face,” he declared.

This announcement sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some netizens expressing shock and others finding the news amusing.

In response, the Christian Council of Ghana issued a press statement titled “Beware of False Teachers and Messiahs”.

It condemned the leader of the Philadelphia Movement for suggesting that his face should replace the widely recognized image of Jesus.

The Council emphasized that there is only one Jesus for Christians, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was crucified on the cross.

“Firstly, we wish to state unequivocally that Prophet Adom Kyei Duah is not and cannot be the Jesus that Christians seek in Ghana or the world at large,” part of the statement read.

Reacting to this, Prophet Adom Kyei Duah warned the Christian Council of Ghana not to incur his wrath.

He maintained that, many stories in the Bible are about to repeat itself and announced plans to re-enact the Passion of Christ.

“I am issuing a warning to the Christian Council of Ghana: Respect! Respect the elderly. Men of God, respect. I am warning you again, respect. This is Stephen Adom Kyei Duah speaking. I have announced that I will be acting in a film about Jesus,” he told his congregation. “Everything that happened in the Bible is about to repeat itself because the roles were not portrayed accurately. Those who played the roles of wicked pastors in the Bible did not do it well. Therefore, Christian Council, you need to be cautious. Next time, follow the regulations because we are about to re-enact the life of Jesus.”

Agyinasare-Nogokpo impasse: Peace Council reacts to bribery allegation https://www.adomonline.com/agyinasare-nogokpo-impasse-peace-council-reacts-to-bribery-allegation/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 08:12:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2312031 The National Peace Council (NPC) has debunked bribery allegations by the spokesperson of the Nogokpo Traditional Council, Nufialaga Mawufemor Kobla Nornyigbey, in the impasse with Perez Chapel Founder, Bishop Charles Agyinasare.

The spokesperson, in a widely publicised report on October 26, 2023, alleged that Torgbiga Adamah III, the Paramount Chief of Some Traditional Area and President of the Some Traditional Council, had been compromised after a visit from the NPC.

Nornyigbey also reportedly called for the scrapping of the NPC, alleging that the Council’s actions did not align with the pursuit of peace.

However, the Council has, in a statement, dismissed Nornyigbey’s claims, saying they are “not only false and unsubstantiated but totally unconscionable.”

Explaining its intervention, the Peace Council said it engaged all relevant stakeholders to work out a peaceful resolution of the impasse following Agyinasare’s statement describing “Nogokpo as the demonic headquarters of the Volta Region” in May 2023.

The Council said it spoke with the chief of Nogokpo, Torgbi Saba V, on June 5, 2023, and issued him a “conflicts complaint form”, which he completed and returned on June 9, 2023.

“On June 29, 2023, led by Torgbiga Adamah III and his 13-member Traditional Council team, including Torgbi Saba V of Nogokpo and Torgbi Atsu-Gledza of Nogokpo-Agbakofe.

“Nufialaga Mawufemor Nornyigbey was absent from the meeting, which was held in an open space with over twenty people present. The Council denied meeting Torgbiga Adamah III in private or separately from the main meeting,” the statement explained.

The Council has therefore called on the spokesperson to retract and apologise for his false and damaging statements.

Police extortion shameful; speak into the conscience of your men – Peace Council to IGP https://www.adomonline.com/police-extortion-shameful-speak-into-the-conscience-of-your-men-peace-council-to-igp/ Sat, 28 Oct 2023 12:01:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2311102 Some top clergymen have expressed concern over the unending professional misconduct by some police officers in their line of duty.

According to the clergy, this persistent act of extorting money from civilians on the roads is embarrassing and goes contrary to the Service’s motto “Service with Integrity”.

Speaking at an engagement with key stakeholders as part of security preparations ahead of the yuletide, a representative from the Peace Council asked the IGP to step in to instill sanity in the Service.

“My job takes me on the road across the country and I see this thing that worries me. The IGP talked about shame and sometimes I feel ashamed when you reach barriers with police officers and the officers on duty are kind of asking very directly for you to give them some money and it is embarrassing to me. Because for me as a servant of the people, I don’t ask my church members to give me personal money.

“I want to plead with you if you can speak into the conscience of our men on the ground, that this habit must be put to a stop. So if you do your analysis and you do your assessment and you get your feedback we shall be interested for you to share the feedback with us so that we will be working with you because the two points you have brought up to change the narrative, which is the sense of guilt and the sense of shame, apply to both the police and to us,” the Executive President of Ghana Baptist, Rev. Enoch Thompson said.

But the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare says these challenges in the Service are being addressed.

He also called for public support to fight crime in the country while extending an invitation to Ghanaians in the diaspora and around the world.

“We want to speak to the rest of Ghana through the media that Ghana will continue to be at peace with itself because that is what God wants for us and nothing will stop that. So we should be encouraged and we should be assured and we the police will play our part.

“For that reason we are also telling the whole of Africa that we are ready, come home and spend time with us.

“To the rest of the world, we want to assure you that the things we do here in Ghana, we will continue to work together with a sense of patriotism and the fear of God,” he added.

Not every leader is a thief; pray for the nation – Akufo-Addo to Christian Council https://www.adomonline.com/not-every-leader-is-a-thief-pray-for-the-nation-akufo-addo-to-christian-council/ Tue, 17 Oct 2023 21:19:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2306924 President Nana Akufo-Addo has called on the Christian Council and the Christian community in Ghana to pray for the nation.

The President also asked the Council to pray for the understanding of the people since not everybody elected as a leader is a thief.

According to him, this prayer is necessary so that people with that understanding will have some hope in leaders.

The President made the call when the new Chairman of the Christian Council, Right Rev. Dr. Hilliad Della Dogbe, led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.

He described the perception as unfortunate, stressing that some of them would have been better off in the private sector.

Akufo-Addo said the people should also have the hope that there are anti-corruption institutions and agencies keeping the government in check.

Right Rev. Dogbe on his part pledged the readiness of the Christian community to pray for God’s guidance and protection of the nation.

According to him, though he believes Jesus Christ existed as part of history, he rather prays through his own medium, Angel Ajagurajah.

“I am not a Christian I believe Jesus existed. I believe in God. Likewise, I worship God, but I am not a Christian. The Christian doctrines don’t matter to me. I teach my members the realities of life. If someone is hungry, and you preach gospel they won’t listen,” he said.

Prophet Ajagurajah added that, most Christians have been swayed away from the truth because they are not allowed to ask questions to know more about the truth in their religion.

It is true money hates noise – Christian Council Chairman tells Ghanaians https://www.adomonline.com/it-is-true-money-hates-noise-christian-council-chairman-tells-ghanaians/ Wed, 09 Nov 2022 12:14:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2181636 The Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mantey, has urged Ghanaians to minimize their negative comments about the present economic crisis.

Speaking at an event to climax the centenary celebration of the Asante Presbytery, he said the consistent negativity about the economy does not augur well for the country.

Addressing the gathering in Kumasi, he explained that the gloomy public narratives about the economy dampens the confidence of investors, leading to a decline in the inflow of foreign investments.

Reiterating the President’s earlier call for citizens to stop the negative speculations about the local currency, he stressed the rampant lamentation over the state of the economy must be reduced.

“One thing I ask from Ghanaians is that, when things are not going well, there’s a place we say it. But for us to parade and muddy our image as Ghanaians in the media is not good.

“The more we speak negatively about our country, the more the prices of things will go up. Because there’s no investor who’ll take you seriously. That’s the message somebody put across the other day and said ‘sika mpɛ dede,” he said.

The reverend minister added, “Ghana has become very difficult. But I also know that the whole world has become very difficult. I know that Ghana is also affected.

“But a lot Ghanaians are not enlightened to know that there’s a serious world crisis. It’s a fact that some people don’t want to believe.

“Because in Ghana, everything is politicised. It’s all about the opposition ridiculing the incumbent for political capital. We must do away with that kind of politics. At least for those of us who’re educated, it doesn’t convince us.”

While urging Ghanaians to tone down on their public outcries, he also added his voice to calls for government to take the necessary actions to resolve the prevailing economic crisis.

The comments by the Chairman of the Christian Council come in the wake of recent public agitations about the current state of the economy.

A recent manifestation of these agitations was seen in the hundreds of citizens who massed up to participate in last Saturday’s ‘Ku Me Preko Reloaded’ demonstration.

According to the protesters, President Akufo-Addo must resign over his inability to address the prevailing economic challenges.

At the moment, Ghana’s economy is experiencing a historic decline with a ballooning debt stock, rising inflation and consistent depreciation of the Cedi amongst others.

Meanwhile, government has assured that it is working around the clock to turn the fortunes of the country around.

Christian Council bares teeth at MPs https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-bares-teeth-at-mps/ Wed, 22 Dec 2021 11:06:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2061313 The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has condemned the chaotic scenes in Parliament on Monday and called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to smoke the peace pipe.

In a statement issued on December 21, the Council said the events of Monday stained the country’s democratic credentials. The CCG, thus, called on parliamentarians to resolve the outstanding concerns regarding the 2022 Budget.

“We respectfully remind Parliamentarians that debates in Parliament must remain a platform for the exchange of ideas and not an opportunity for confusion and hostility. Ghanaians voted for you to engage in ‘debate not boxing’.

“Our country’s lawmakers must show the way to protect and deepen democratic processes in our governance system. Unfortunately, what we saw in Parliament yesterday is a negation of Ghana’s democratic gains over the past 30 years. What happened yesterday on the floor of Parliament is unacceptable to say the least, and we condemn such behaviour.

“We, therefore, urge Parliament, to as a matter of urgency, build consensus to ensure that the nation has a budget to work with in 2022. We also urge the leadership of Parliament to put measures in place to prevent any future incidence of mayhem,” the Council advised.

According to the leadership of the ‘Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana’, proceedings in Parliament must reflect decorum and sanity.

The Christian Council also reiterated its commitment to supporting the legislators with prayers in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“Christian leaders in our country will continue to pray for our legislators for God’s grace and wisdom at all times. We ask for God’s blessings upon Parliament. May God bless our nation Ghana”, the statement concluded.

On Monday, December 20, members from the Minority and Majority Caucuses in Parliament were engaged in fisticuffs during deliberations on the controversial E-levy Bill. In what has been widely condemned by many, the MPs were seen pushing one another in fierce anger and disagreement.

According to JoyNews’ parliamentary correspondent, Kwesi Parker Wilson, the mayhem arose after the 1st Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu indicated his intention to vote on whether the proposed e-levy Bill should be considered under a certificate of urgency or not.

The Minority reportedly resented the idea, leading to minutes of verbal altercations and heckling amongst the MPs. Proceedings were adjourned accordingly.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, the leadership of Parliament apologised for the chaos when the House reconvened to continue with deliberations.

However, proceedings were adjourned. The House agreed to reconvene on January 18, 2022 to resume discussions on the e-levy.

Nonetheless, Parliament has approved the 2022 Appropriation Bill to enable the financing of government business and other related transactions.

“The Christian Council of Ghana wishes to inform the public that we have not made nor released any such statement anywhere, nor have we authorised anyone to make or release such a statement,” the Council said in a statement.

Don’t breach new Covid directives – Christian Council appeals to church leaders https://www.adomonline.com/dont-breach-new-covid-directives-christian-council-appeals-to-church-leaders/ Sun, 07 Feb 2021 10:27:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1916171 The Christian Council of Ghana has appealed to Christians to observe the fresh Covid-19 safety restrictions in churches.

This is in reaction to the new restrictions on social events imposed by President Nana Akufo-Addo as a result of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

The announcement of these restrictions includes ban on weddings and funerals amidst hosts of interventions to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 7, 2021, calling for the strict adherence to all prescribed precautionary etiquettes against the virus in churches, the Christian Council outlined guidelines aimed at clarifying and throwing more light on the President’s new directive on social gatherings.

According to the statement, “worship services are permitted to continue and church leaders are entreated to enforce, to the letter, the protocols relating to attendance, i.e, maximum duration of two hours, one meter social distancing, wearing of masks, hand washing under running water and soap, and use of sanitisers and disinfection of surfaces.”

On the issue of marriages and burial services held in churches, the Christian Council clarified that such services are permitted to be held but under strict Covid-19 protocols.

However, the statement noted that burial or interment itself must be private, which means, it must be limited to 25 persons as directed by the President.

The statement further clarified that “it is the after celebrations such as receptions, parties, dancing, eating etc that have been banned.”

The Council urged all churches and all church leaders to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocols outlined above to help halt the spread of the virus.

Below is the statement:

PASTORAL LETTER

TO ALL ECUMENICAL BODIES AND MEMBER CHURCHES

February 7, 2021

Beloved in Christ,

CLARIFICATION AND ADHERENCE TO THE PRESIDENT’S DIRECTIVES ON COVID 19

We bring you greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Following the 23rd update by His Excellency the President and subsequent clarification of the restrictions on weddings and funerals by the Minister Designate for Information, the following is the understanding of the President’s directives by the leadership of the Christian community:
1. That worship services are permitted to continue and church leaders are entreated to enforce, to the letter, the protocols relating to attendance, ie, maximum duration of two hours, one meter social distancing, wearing of masks, hand washing under running water and soap, and use of sanitisers and disinfection of surfaces.
2. That marriages and burial services, which are held in churches under strict Covid protocols are permitted. It is the after celebrations such as receptions, parties, dancing, eating etc that have been banned.
3. That the burial or interment itself must be private, which means, it must be limited to twenty-five (25) persons.

As we have done with distinction in the past, we urge all churches and all church leaders to adhere strictly to the Covid protocols outlined above to help curb the spread of the virus. Any church that does not comply to the protocols will be closed down and the leaders sanctioned according to law.

Let us continue to pray for all front-liners in the fight against Covid, for healing of the sick and for the eradication of Covid.

The Lord bless you.

Don’t wear party attire to church – Christian Council warns https://www.adomonline.com/dont-wear-party-attire-to-church-christian-council-warns/ Fri, 11 Dec 2020 18:50:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1892852 The Christian Council of Ghana has issued a letter to all of its member churches to entreat Christians not to wear political party paraphernalia to church on Sunday.

This, according to the Council, is for the sake of peace, unity and national cohesion.

The Council is concerned about the mounting tensions in the country following the declaration of the winner of the just-ended presidential elections.

In a letter signed by Reverend Cyril Fayose, General Secretary of the Council addressed to all of its member churches on Wednesday, he urged supporters of the winning candidate to celebrate moderately and avoid any activity that may lead to violence with their political opponent.

The Council also asked supporters of the National Democratic Congress to graciously accept defeat so as to promote peace in the country.

It also entreated all pastors to use Sunday, December 13, 2020, to thank the Almighty God for the peaceful elections held and to preach unity among the populace.

Christian Council raises alarm over 4 ‘demonic forces’ in Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-raises-alarm-over-4-demonic-forces-in-ghana/ Sat, 18 Jul 2020 10:05:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1828696 The Christian Council of Ghana has raised concerns over what it describes as demonic forces Ghana’s politics must be devoid of.

According to the Council, it is important for political leaders to take stringent steps that will ensure peace in the country, especially with 2020 as an election year.

They said sabotage, tribalism, hate speech and abuse of power are the four activities they want to be addressed in the political sphere.

Why are you silent on sexual harassment issues? – Lydia Forson asks Christian Council https://www.adomonline.com/why-are-you-silent-on-sexual-harassment-issues-lydia-forson-asks-christian-council/ Thu, 10 Oct 2019 17:51:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1711754 Actress Lydia Forson has taken issue with the Christian Council for Ghana for so far keeping mute on issues pertaining to rape and sexual harassments.

The actress is particularly not happy that the Christian body appears to be quick to react to certain issues but is silent on issues concerning the sexual abuse of women.

“Dear Christian Council and other religious bodies who like to jump on issues with long letters policing morality- have you lost your voice, laptop or do you not have data?” The vocal actress said in a tweet Thursday.

She further quizzed, “why are you always [silent] when the issue of rape and sexual harassment come up?”

Lydia Forson’s tweet follows a documentary – Sex for Grades – produced by the BBC Africa Eye and aired on Monday, October 7, 2019.

The documentary shows alleged cases of sexual harassment at the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.

The BBC sent female undercover reporters to the campuses of the two universities where it reported that they were sexually harassed, propositioned and put under pressure by senior lecturers – all the while wearing secret cameras.

Two lecturers at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr Paul Kwame Butakor, shown in the documentary and accused of engaging in sexual harassment on campus, have since been interdicted by the university.

The BBC has said it picked reports from students who have been victimised in similar scenarios in relation to the subject matter in the hands of the same lecturers [Gyampo and Butakor] mentioned in the documentary.

The Christian Council is yet to comment on the documentary.

Reacting to Lydia Forson’s tweet, Nollywood’s star actress Kate Henshaw alleged that, “Because they are aiding and abetting it or doing it too…,” to which Lydia responded: “Exactly.”

Depoliticise pro-poor policies – Christian Council urges Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/depoliticise-pro-poor-policies-christian-council-urges-akufo-addo/ Wed, 10 Jan 2018 07:10:56 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=823011 The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has advised the Akufo-Addo led government to depoliticise its laudable social intervention programmes.
The Council wants the pro-poor initiatives to be national ideas in order to make them more acceptable and lasting.
The Council said the government, should, in particular, depoliticise the Free-Senior High School (SHS) programme which, it described as “a wonderful social intervention that must be sustained as a national idea”.
In an interview with the GNA on Monday, Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the CCG, commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for being very consistent in his promises of bettering the lots of Ghanaians.
He said, on assumption of office, the President immediately started rolling out some of his campaign programmes, which included the free SHS, the “One District One Factory” and the restoration of allowances of teacher trainees and nursing students.
Rev Opuni-Frimpong said while the Council lauds the President for being consistent, it would also urge it to clearly explain to Ghanaians how it was mobilising resources to fund all these projects, adding, “That will help boost the confidence of the people in the government”.
He also advised the government to lead a national mobilisation programme to mobilise domestic resources and bring all stakeholders including parents, teachers, and old school associations on board to run the free SHS.
“This will ensure that we get the best out of the free-SHS for our children”, he said.

Christian Council calls for further engagements on Free SHS Policy https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-calls-engagements-free-shs-policy/ Sun, 27 Aug 2017 17:18:11 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=436011 The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has called on the Government to, as a matter of urgency, engage stakeholders on their roles in the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy to ensure its success.
The Council said the implementation of the SHS Policy must be a collective responsibility of all key stakeholders instead of leaving it on the shoulders of the Government alone.
“Considering the history of educational development in the country, we are convinced that the success of the Free SHS Policy must be a collective responsibility,” Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, the General Secretary of the CCG, said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Sunday.
While commending the Government for its efforts at fulfilling the campaign promise, Rev Opuni-Frimpong said it needed to engage stakeholders to do more deliberations to ensure the smooth take off of the Policy in September.
The Parents-Teacher Associations (PTAs) the SHS level, Old Students Associations, and religious and traditional leaders are some of the stakeholders who could contribute substantially towards the provision of school infrastructure and their maintenance within the framework of the Policy, he said.
“Government has been very consistent and has sustained its pledge by implementing the free SHS Policy, which is very commendable.
“However, what is not certain at the moment is what the role of the key stakeholders would be under the Free SHS Policy,” Rev Opuni-Frimpong said.
He said because of the useful role stakeholders had played over the years in the education system, they were able to demand accountability from the managers of schools in ensuring quality education for Ghanaian students.
He said the PTAs, for instance, were billing parents, which they used as funds to help in providing some infrastructure and extra classes for the students, all geared towards enhancing teaching and learning.
“Now the Government is saying all infrastructure, feeding, and textbooks will be free, so the stakeholders must be properly engaged to see what role they will continue to play.
“We should not assume any role for any stakeholder, there must be proper engagements with clear-cut roles,” Rev Opuni-Frimpong said.

Stop spiritualising death of Adams Mahama – Christian Council warns https://www.adomonline.com/stop-spiritualising-death-adams-mahama-christian-council-warns/ https://www.adomonline.com/stop-spiritualising-death-adams-mahama-christian-council-warns/#comments Mon, 05 Jun 2017 16:25:50 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=154761 The Christian Council of Ghana has issued a stern warning to pastors to stop giving spiritual interpretations to the death of Military Captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama.

General Secretary of the Christian Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, said the pastors must “keep quiet” if they have nothing to say.

Capt Maxwell Mahama of the 5th Battalion Infantry was on May 29, 2017, lynched by some youth while he went for his early morning jogging.

He was allegedly stoned and burnt by the youth of the area who claimed they mistook him for an armed robber. The police have arrested 17 persons said to be connected with the awful act.

The leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Owusu Bempah is reported to have said last week that the death of the military officer was part of punishment meant for former President John Mahama, who is also an Uncle of the slain soldier.

Rev. Owusu Bempah

But speaking on Joy FM’s Christian talk show, ‘A Walk With Jesus’, Sunday night Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong cautioned: “The Churches and Pastors must be careful how we spiritualize the issues. The family members are going through a lot and if pastors have nothing to say, it’s better we keep quiet,”

The General Secretary of the Christian Council expressed disgust at these comments saying they are not “relevant and helpful”.

“Pastors who have some sympathy for a political party must be very careful how they spiritualize the Captain’s death”, Rev. Opuni-Frimpong stated, adding: “We should not give any impression that members of one political party in this country are angels and the other groups are demons. They are all the same”.

Christian Council condemns ‘emerging culture of violence’ https://www.adomonline.com/christian-council-condemns-emerging-culture-violence/ Wed, 31 May 2017 06:45:49 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=144061 The Christian Council of Ghana has condemned the recent incidents of mob action against state institutions and security agencies.

The Council said the gruesome murder of a military officer, Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama, by residents of Diaso in the Denkyira-Obuasi District of the Central Region, threatens public safety.

General Secretary of the Christian Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong told Joy News, Monday’s tragic incident and another mob attack on an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) installation in Somanya in the Eastern Region cast a blight on Ghana’s democracy credentials and threatens Ghana’s peace.

“We are witnessing a trend of emerging culture of violence and we consider that to be a threat to good governance and public safety,” said Dr. Opuni-Frimpong.

Captain Mahama met his untimely death when he was out for his early morning jogging.

He was reportedly lynched by some youth after he was mistaken for an armed robber because of a weapon he carried on him.

He was allegedly pelted with stones and burnt.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, former Presidents John Mahama, and John Rawlings have all condemned the lynching of the soldier.

Also on Monday, hundreds of angry residents in Somanya in the Eastern Region took over the offices of the ECG and vandalised parts of the building in protest over what according to them are outrageous electricity bills.

Some vehicles were also set on fire.

“We can’t continue like that as a country no matter whatever justification somebody has for the [mob actions]”, said Dr Opuni-Frimpong.

He has, however, appealed to the military to avoid reprisals on the people of Diaso

Audio: NPP big wigs to blame for Delta Force actions – Christian Council https://www.adomonline.com/audio-npp-big-wigs-blame-delta-force-actions-christian-council/ Mon, 10 Apr 2017 09:17:58 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=69801 The Christian Council of Ghana has blamed the conduct of New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Delta Force on big wigs in the party.

According to the General Secretary, Rev Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, some leaders in the party have consistently defended and endorsed the actions of the Delta Force, a situation which has emboldened them to carry out attacks.

He maintained that members of the group can never be wrong or right for the attack.

“We cannot blame these boys for the raid. Those we need to blame are the big men behind these boys. They buy food for them, they clothed them, they do everything for them and so they need to be blamed and not the members because they are only doing what their pay masters have ordered them to do,” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Monday.

The angry members of the gang reportedly vandalised properties of the KMA court and almost assaulted the while 13 members of the groups were standing trial.

The 13 were on trial for assaulting the Ashanti regional security coordinator, George Agyei, who they said could not be allowed to serve in that capacity because he did not help in the campaign towards the NPP’s victory in 2016.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday, Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong expressed his deepest disappointment in the leadership of the NPP with regards to the lawless activities of the notorious Delta Forces in the country.

He therefore called on law enforcement agencies to deal with them and allow the law to take its course.
