Minister reacts to reports that govt plans to build national shrine[Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/audio-chieftaincy-and-religious-affairs-minister-reacts-to-proposal-to-build-a-national-shrine/ Thu, 21 Nov 2019 12:05:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1724212

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, has rubbished media reports that his outfit is considering a proposal to build a national shrine for traditional leaders in the country.

Mr Dzamesi was reported to have said at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, that a number of traditional leaders had appealed to the government for the construction of a national shrine.

The minister was alleged to have also said it is right for traditional leaders in the country to request for a national shrine, especially when the Islamic and Christian faiths in the country have a national mosque and a national cathedral respectively.

But, reacting to the issue on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Thursday, Mr Dzamesi said the reports were a misrepresentation of the facts.

“Just yesterday at my press briefing, someone asked a question why the government isn’t putting up a shrine, rather concentrating on building a national cathedral. And I responded by saying that some Wolomei (GA Traditional Priests) have presented a petition on that,” he said.

“And we can only look at their plea, but I never said I was going to build a national shrine,” he said angrily.

Hot Audio+Photos: Two killed at Oshiye over chieftaincy dispute https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audiophotos-two-killed-oshiye-chieftaincy-dispute/ Thu, 17 Aug 2017 17:40:39 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=403661 Two people have been killed at Oshiye in the GA-South municipality of the Greater Accra region over alleged chieftaincy dispute.
25-year-old Yaw Amoako was shot whiles Asafuakya Seth was severely butchered to death.
Assembly man for the Kokrobite Electoral area, Rockson Sakah Allotey in an interview on Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said some residents claim the cause of the incident was as a result of a protracted chieftaincy litigation in the area.
He however commended the police for arriving on the scene on time.
“The police did a good work. They arrived on time to save the day. They died out of chieftaincy disputes. The police did mass arrest and I think the job was excellent…” he said.

However, he urged the police to be on a red alert to avert any reprisal attack.
“We hope they don’t easily discharge the culprits. People are scared. They must screen them drastically. Usually they are easily spared after they are sent to the station. It is good schools have vacated otherwise children couldn’t go to school. They are scared. If someone is killed in front of you, would you step out easily…?” he queried.

Some of the residents are calling on the government to provide them with military protection because their lives are in danger.
“We hope the government comes to our aid since our lives are in danger. We need military protection…” a resident said.
Meanwhile, no arrest has so far been made and the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
