He added that Sheikh Alfa Anas has also been appointed to occupy the Deputy Volta Regional Chief Imam position and to work with Sheikh Muniru for the progress of the Muslim community in their jurisdiction.

He added that several consultations and mediations were done before selecting Sheikh Muniru as the legitimate person to be appointed as the Volta Regional Chief Imam.

This was contained in a press release issued on his behalf, signed by Dr Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, his Personal Assistant.

Gun attack

Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, therefore, found it unfortunate learning of the gun attack at the Ho Central Mosque on December 26, 2025, in connection with the Imamship conflict.

“The gun violence is traceable to the contest for the Volta Regional Imamship between Sheikh Ali Muniru and Sheikh Anas. He, however, reiterates that Sheikh Muniru is the legitimate Volta regional Imam, and Sheikh Anas (is) the Deputy Imam.”

“His Eminence explains that the selection of Sheikh Muniru has not been an imposition, but
a product of consultation and mediation. He, therefore, does not understand why a resolved
matter continues to be a source of violence,” the release stated.

Solidarity to serve Allah and humanity

His Eminence emphasised the need for both leaders to desist from engaging in violence and serve Allah and humanity in “solidarity and cordiality”.

He also urged their followers to let the norms of Islam reflect in their dealings by being law-abiding and peace-loving.

An act of violence and an affront to Islamic sanctity

Sheikh Dr Nuhu Sharubutu condemned the shooting incidents that resulted in the injury of some 11 Muslims and the arrest of 14 suspects.

“His Eminence condemns the incident and describes it as an affront to Islamic sanctity,
threat to national security, a deviation from basic civility, and a tribute to outright impunity”, stated the release.

Police impartiality

The National Chief Imam admonished the police to ensure all perpetrators of violence in connection with Friday’s violent incident are brought to book.

He entreated the police to be impartial in their investigations, indicating that “indeed, selective justice is tantamount to injustice.”

Speedy healing of the injured

Sheikh Dr Nuhu Sharubutu concluded the release by extending his sympathy to the injured and entreated the feuding factions to forgive and reconcile to receive mercy from Allah.

“In conclusion, His Eminence prays for a speedy healing of the injured and reminds the
factions about the following words of Allah:

“The believers are brothers. So, make reconciliation between your brothers. And fear Allah, so that you may receive mercy.” (Quran 49: 10). May Allah reconcile the Ummah and bless our Homeland, Ghana. Ameen,” the statement concluded.

Ho stakeholders threaten legal action against newly installed Chief Imam https://www.adomonline.com/ho-stakeholders-threaten-legal-action-against-newly-installed-chief-imam/ Sun, 02 Nov 2025 19:22:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2595308 Tensions within the Ho Muslim community in the Volta region have escalated as a group of concerned stakeholders has vowed to initiate legal proceedings against a newly installed Regional Chief Imam and the Asogli State.

The group accused the Asogli traditional authorities of overstepping their mandate in a matter they insist is purely religious and not hereditary.

The group in a press conference on Saturday, November 1, after the installation of the Imam, Ali Muniru, noted that the installation at the Asogli Palace violates Islamic principles and ongoing judicial processes.

Alhaji Ali Muniru was installed on Saturday, November 1, at the forecourt of the Asogli Palace in Ho.

According to the stakeholders, the leadership dispute is before the High Court in Ho, and the installation of a new Imam outside the legal process represents a challenge to due process and community cohesion.

“We shall not hesitate to take legal action against the said installed Imam and the Asogli State for meddling in a religious matter that does not fall within traditional jurisdiction,” said, Osumanu Musa Abiaduka.

The dispute is a long-standing confrontation between two factions competing for the position: the Deputy and Acting Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas, and Ali Muniru, who traces his lineage to a former Chief Imam who passed away decades ago.

The Youth Leader of the community, Sahaliu Mohammed Kidza at the press conference said “Imamship is not hereditary, and it is not a traditional position.”

He explained that Alhaji Alfa Anas served as deputy to the late Chief Imam and is currently acting in that capacity.

He said, according to Islamic practice, he is therefore qualified to become the substantive Imam and should not be expected to continue serving under a newly appointed leader.

Ho Muslim folks at the press conference

The group expressed disappointment that the Volta Regional Minister is alleged to have supported the installation despite the case being sub judice.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their recognition of the long-serving Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas, noting his leadership and service to the Muslim community for more than seventeen years.

“We all know Alhaji Alfa Anas as the Regional Chief Imam of Volta Region, and he has been performing his role with dignity for over 17 years,” Osumanu Musa Abiaduka stated.

They emphasised that the matter is a religious affair governed by Islamic structures, not traditional authority.

The Ho Central Mosque

They called for calm within the Muslim community while signalling readiness to pursue justice through the courts.

“We urge all Muslims in Ho to remain peaceful. We have full confidence in the judiciary to deliver fairness. We shall defend our faith, our laws and our unity through legitimate channels,” he said.

The rest are Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and three military officers: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala (pilot), Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu (co-pilot), and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah (crew member).

“You are not alone in this moment of divine trial,” he assured.

While mourning the departed, the Grand Imam also offered words of encouragement to the government and the military leadership.

Chief Imam calls for an end to Gaza atrocities in Eid-Al-Adha message https://www.adomonline.com/chief-imam-calls-for-an-end-to-gaza-atrocities-in-eid-al-adha-message/ Sat, 07 Jun 2025 16:02:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2542585 As Muslims observe Eid-Al-Adha, National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has issued a profound and impassioned call for an immediate end to the “genocidal impunity and moral bankruptcy” plaguing Gaza and other conflict zones.

In his poignant 2025 Eid message delivered ahead of the celebration, the revered spiritual leader urged Ghanaians and the international community to embark on a journey of moral renewal, sacrifice, and interfaith harmony.

Describing Eid-Al-Adha as far more than a mere ritualistic sacrifice, Dr. Sharubutu emphasised its divine essence as a catalyst for personal piety, societal transformation, and universal peace.

“Eid-Al-Adha is a festivity of sacrifice and an opportunity to reaffirm our faith in Allah,” he stated, drawing from the Holy Qur’an (Chapter 22, Verse 37) to highlight that “Allah is not interested in the flesh and blood of the animals sacrificed… but in our commitment to piety.”

His Eminence implored Muslims to deeply reflect on the moral imperatives of the occasion, advocating for an attitudinal shift “from negativity to positivity in the supreme interest of our society.”

He warned that the virtues of Eid remain unfulfilled if they do not translate into tangible moral growth and behavioural change.

A Universal Call for Interfaith Unity

Dr. Sharubutu extended his message beyond the Islamic faith, stressing the unifying power of the story of Prophet Abraham’s unwavering obedience, a central theme of Eid-Al-Adha.

He underscored this narrative as “the point of convergence of all the Abrahamic religions,” urging Christians, Jews, and Muslims to leverage the festival as a profound opportunity to recommit to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

This appeal resonates particularly in Ghana, a nation celebrated for its robust interfaith dialogue and harmony, often cited as a model in West Africa.

Condemnation of Global Atrocities and a Call for Justice

In a stark condemnation of ongoing global conflicts, especially the devastating situation in Gaza, the Chief Imam’s voice rang with moral authority. He passionately appealed to world leaders to uphold the fundamental principles of justice, peace, and human dignity.

“We cannot surrender our God-given humanity to modern-day barbarity in the name of supremacy,” Dr. Sharubutu warned, echoing widespread humanitarian concerns.

The conflict in Gaza alone has, as of early June 2025, resulted in over 36,000 fatalities—predominantly civilians—and displaced nearly 2 million people, according to UN reports. The humanitarian crisis, characterised by widespread famine and the destruction of vital infrastructure, has drawn global condemnation.

A Plea for a New Global Order

Concluding his powerful message—conveyed through his Personal Assistant, Dr. Abubakari Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo—the Chief Imam called for a fundamental reordering of global priorities.

He envisioned a new international framework “anchored on justice and compassion,” where “RIGHT over might, UNITY over disunity, FORGIVENESS over vindictiveness, RECONCILIATION over aggression, and PEACE over violence” become the guiding principles.

Dr. Sharubutu’s message serves as a potent reminder of the shared human values that must drive collective action to address the complex moral and humanitarian challenges facing the world today.

The Chief Imam said this through Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, the spokesperson for the Chief Imam when the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) paid a courtesy call to the Muslim leader on Thursday.

The visit was to introduce the newly constituted Board members of the Authority to the Chief Imam as part of the activities of its tax education month.

The Chief Imam said in Islam that it was an obligation to engage in charity acts every year to support the less privileged in society.

That, he stressed, was necessary for all Muslims and citizens to adhere to the country’s law to pay their taxes to raise revenue for development projects.

Sheikh Sharubutu said his office was open to partnership with the Authority to engage in outreach programmes to sensitise the public on the importance of tax compliance.

He encouraged all Imams to use their pulpit to educate the Muslim communities on the necessity to pay their taxes to provide infrastructure and other development activities.

He called on the Authority to help ensure accountability from the revenue collected to build the trust and confidence of the public.

The Chief Imam prayed for the leadership of the Authority and the peace of the country ahead of the general elections.

Joe Ghartey, the Board Chairman of GRA, said the country was threatened because “we don’t have money due to economic challenges and low compliance with tax.”

He said the country only received 40 per cent of its revenue from taxation, which was woefully inadequate to undertake any meaningful projects.

Taxes, he stated, were recognised as an important contributor for both developed and developing countries to execute projects.

“Ghanaians must think about what they can do for the country in addition to what they expect from the government from their taxes.

“If we want to reach the promised land, then we have to pay our taxes, he said.

The Board Chairman said the country needed to reduce or avoid borrowing from development partners by paying our taxes.

That, he stressed, would lead to economic and financial independence and as well pursue development projects for the citizens.

Other board members present at the visit include Ms Julie Essiam, Commissioner-General for GRA; Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo, Commissioner of Customs Division of GRA; Ms Pearl Darko, Commissioner in Charge of Support Service Division of GRA; Ms Susan Akomea, and Mrs Araba Bosomtwe.

The team presented an undisclosed amount of money to the Chief Imam and donated assorted items, including bags of rice, cartons of frytol oil, packs of bottled water, and packs of soft drinks.

Don’t politicise Prophet Muhammed’s birthday celebration — Chief Imam https://www.adomonline.com/dont-politicise-prophet-muhammeds-birthday-celebration-chief-imam/ Fri, 13 Oct 2023 09:02:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2305427 National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has called on political activists not to turn this year’s Maulid celebration into a political campaign ground.

This is because the sanctity, significance, and meaning of the celebration is purely a religious ceremony that must be observed as such.

The Maulid on the Islamic calendar will be celebrated tomorrow to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammed which falls on the 12th day of the third month on the Islamic calendar.

Sheikh  Sharubutu made the call through his Spokesperson, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, at a press briefing on the celebration, at his residence at New Fadama in Accra last Wednesday.

The purpose of the press briefing was to address issues of concern that were over the years eroding the very purpose, significance and sanctity of the religious ceremony.

This year’s celebration, like in previous years, is expected to attract many people from all walks of life, including Christians.

Issues

“We have observed in recent years that the celebration is gradually losing its significance, meaning, and sanctity due to a number of issues” the Chief Imam emphasized.

He cautioned against using provocative political remarks which were likely to attract unpleasant responses from political opponents.

Sheikh Sharubutu warned against interference or behind-the-scenes suggestions intended to influence the conduct of the programme; display of party paraphernalia and other party T-shirts or veils that have symbols of political parties; overcrowding of the inner space of the field of celebration; noise-making and booing of any important guest of the Chief Imam which would amount to abusing the dignity of the national Chief Imam, among other activities, that would negatively affect the significance of the Maulid.

“I want to sound a note of caution that it is a violation of my respect and dignity that you should disrespect my guests,” Sheikh Sharubutu advised.

National Chief Imam urges Ghanaians to join Green Ghana Initiative https://www.adomonline.com/national-chief-imam-urges-ghanaians-to-join-green-ghana-initiative/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 09:11:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2257901 The National Chief Imam, Sheik Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu, has encouraged all Ghanaians to support the Green Ghana Initiative to continue to provide the environment.

“I approve and support this project, I encourage all Muslims and non-muslims to support this tree seedlings planting exercise,” he said.

The National Chief Imam gave the encouragement when the leadership of the Forestry Commission called on him as part of the 2023 Green Ghana tree seedlings planting exercise nationwide.

Ten million seedlings are expected to be planted nationwide on Friday, June 9, 2023, as part of efforts to protect the environment.

Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu, speaking through an interpreter, said the exercise was a duty call every Ghanaian needed to obey and support, adding that “as we take part in the exercise, God will also help us to protect the environment.”

He said it was important for all Ghanaians to endeavour to be part of and support the Green Ghana Initiative.

John Allotey, the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, said the call was to court the National Chief Imam’s support for a successful implementation of the Green Ghana Initiative.

He said the project was to mobilize Ghanaians of all lifestyles to help plant 10 million seedlings on that single day.

He said all the seedlings were ready at all District and Regional Forestry Commission Offices to be planted by everyone.

Allotey said members of the committee were drawn from the political divide to ensure that the project was non- partisan.

He said specific seedling allocations had been made to the various regions, adding that some six million seedlings would be made available for the exercise.

The Commission also identified spaces and organizations such as churches and mosques to achieve wider coverage.

The Chief Executive Officer urged the Chief Imam to take part in the exercise and to use his high office and influence to plant a tree and advocate for the project to succeed.

He said in 2021, the Initiative exceeded the target of five million seedlings to seven million, while in 2022, they had 20 million as the target but it exceeded 27 million.

The CEO said the target was reduced because the focus was to monitor the already planted trees to see how best they were doing while they continue the planting process.

On that day prominent personalities such as the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, the Chief Justice designate and others will take part in the exercise at the University of Ghana.

Popular prophet meets Chief Imam to seek intervention for Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/popular-prophet-meets-chief-imam-to-seek-intervention-for-ghana/ Sun, 12 Feb 2023 13:12:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2215609 Two spiritual leaders have conferred to seek God’s intervention to address the current challenges facing the country and the world at large.

That, they said was to ensure that the world becomes a better place for peace and sustainable development.

The religious leader who met the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu was the Founder of the Israel King of the Jews Church, Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson.

Meeting

The meeting of the two took place at the residence of the Chief Imam at New Fadama in Accra when he paid a courtesy call on him.

The meeting followed the hullabaloo over the government’s debt exchange programme, the challenges with the country’s economy and the recent earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria.

Commencing the discussions, prophet Jamson said he was at the residence of the Chief Imam to empathise with Ghanaians over the troubling times they found themselves in.

“It is very sad that we do not seek the reason why these things are happening from the Almighty God so that He will show us what to do. We rather rely on our own knowledge which will obviously lead us to nowhere,” he said.

Prophet Jamson, who is also the Spiritual Leader of the Council of Spiritual Churches, Ghana, said times were indeed hard and it was for that reason “we need to cast our minds back to how our forefathers survived similar situations”.

“We can identify instances of difficult times from both Holy Bible and the Holy Quran.

“But in all these we can tell or learn how our forefathers patiently waited on the Almighty God to keep and deliver them from such hard and troubling moments.

“We ought to also seek direction and the intervention of Almighty God so we can also sail through these troubling times,” he emphasised.

He said it was not time to blame anybody since that was not the solution.

Solution

The Almighty God, he said was the solution, adding that if the country was given all the money in the world without God’s intervention and directions, the country would suffer.

“Earthquake and other disasters are natural and signs of the end time, without the intervention of God all our efforts would be in vain. Let’s cry out to the Lord Most High to have mercy upon us and minimise all these happenings.”

The Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, said what the prophet said was exactly what was going on in the world.

He said what was happening was a remembrance and food for thought for everyone, especially with how to deal with it.

The National Chief Imam said if people found themselves in difficulties, the only solution was to turn to God.

He said the advise had been well taken and gave the assurance that the message would be communicated to Muslim faithful.

The cleric expressed sympathy for the people of Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquake which claimed thousands of lives in the two countries early this week.

In a release, the Grand Imam said he was particularly disturbed by the loss of thousands of lives and destruction of property following the disaster in the two countries.

The earthquake, the cleric notes, “constitutes a tragedy that calls for global solidarity with Turkey and Syria, adding that world leaders and international organisations should show the affected nations love and care as they struggle to bear the trying moments and to restore normalcy.”

He observed with concern that some victims are still trapped in collapsed buildings in the disaster scenes. This, he adds, should be an issue of humanity, not that of Syria and Turkey.

The Chief Imam prayed for divine mercy on the dead and speedy healing of the injured.

He called on all nations to reaffirm their commitments to the global combat against climate crisis, even as climate scientists paint a gloomy picture of the environment, a situation which threatens the future of humanity if the current trend of ecological destruction continues.

Owusu Bempah responds to ‘Chief Imam’s destiny’ reports https://www.adomonline.com/owusu-bempah-responds-to-chief-imams-destiny-reports/ Thu, 05 Jan 2023 13:28:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2202286 The Glorious Word Power Ministries International of which Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah is the founder has denied reports that the head pastor looked into the destiny of the National Chief Imam.

Reacting to what they say is a strong-worded statement issued by the Islamic authority, the church has clarified that the said disparaging comment on the Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu was never made.

The church added that the “report was misleading and the content littered with falsehood”, clarifying that the said sermon from which the article was crafted was twisted and misrepresented.

According to the church, the report is a calculated attempt to disrupt the peaceful and cordial relationship between Rev Owusu Bempah and the National Chief Imam.

“We wish to state emphatically that Apostle Dr Isaac Owusu Bempah has not at any time claimed that the Chief Imam visits it consults him to look into his destiny. The publication was clearly actuated by malice, a desire for profit, sensationalism and calculated to disrupt the peaceful and cordial relationship between the Chief Imam and Apostle Dr Isaac Owusu Bempah,” the church’s response read in part.

However, the church added that it takes strong exception to the language of the official of the Chief Imam who described Owusu Bempah as a “charlatan on a pulpit”.

“We wish to put to record that as a church, we take serious exception to the description of our General Overseer as a Charlatan on the Pulpit among other distasteful words. We revere and hold our General Overseer in high esteem as much as we love and respect His Eminence the National Chief Imam”.

Rev Owusu Bempah makes Chief Imam ‘mad’ again https://www.adomonline.com/rev-owusu-bempah-makes-chief-imam-mad-again/ Thu, 05 Jan 2023 13:08:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2202261 The office of the National Chief Imam has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the National Security apparatus and other relevant institutions to call Rev Owusu Bempah to order for dragging the Imam’s name into his prophesies.

Earlier publications reported that Rev Owusu Bempah, in one of his sermons, remarked that Sheikh Dr. Usman Nuhu Sharubutu and other leaders consult him to look into their destinies.

The publication was accompanied by photographs of a meeting between the Imam and the religious leader with the intent of giving some veracity to the claims.

However, correspondence from the Chief Imam described the comments and allegations are disparaging, emphasizing that it has no iota of truth.

A press statement issued to that effect clarified that the meeting in question, at which they were photographed, was when Rev Bempah came to apologize to His Eminence for a similar prophesy that threatened national security.

“Ideally, the photograph only shows His Eminence tolerated and extended a hand of reconciliation to a provocateur. We, therefore, do not expect the photograph to be used as an instrument of further provocation against a personality of global repute”.

Among other things, the respondent described Rev Owusu Bempah as a “Charlatan on the pulpit”, and called on him and other religious bodies to desist from making the meekness of the Chief Imam a weakness.

The office of the Chief Imam called on the Christian fraternity and other security services to calling the pastor to order in the interest of national unity, peace and harmony.

The Chief Imam added that the dastardly act of terrorism comes on the heels of a recent engagement with the leadership of the Catholic Church on ways of fashioning out a means of ensuring inter-faith harmony. This, he added, has become an annual affair on the faith calendar of the country.

Many worshippers lost their lives in a church in Ondo State, Nigeria, after the facility was attacked by heavily armed persons a few days ago.

A priest, when he was interviewed, said only evil-minded persons would visit this kind of atrocity on worshippers.

According to him, the worshippers were being shot at within the church, and those who managed to get outside were not spared the bullets of the attackers. He added that the attackers hurled a grenade inside the church.

Such acts of terrorism were confined to the northern parts of Nigeria, but with the Ondo experience, it would appear that the criminals have the South in their sights, which adds to the security burden on the federal government and the security apparatus.

Mosques must hire the services of security personnel to enhance safety – Sheikh Shaibu https://www.adomonline.com/mosques-must-hire-the-services-of-security-personnel-to-enhance-safety-sheikh-shaibu/ Tue, 24 May 2022 09:40:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2117567 The spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, has urged Mosque Management Committees across the country to, as a matter of urgency, start considering hiring security officers, especially during large prayer gatherings.

This he says might help foil terrorist attacks at mosques and other large Muslim gatherings as the country readies itself for imminent terrorist attacks due to the southward projection of extremist groups in the sub-region.

His comment follows a government threat alert warning of a potential terrorist threat in the country and has thus cautioned faith-based organisations to exercise extreme caution.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Sheikh Shaibu also urged Mosque Management Committees to also seek the services of security analysts in order to plan strategies to counter the activities of radicalizers in their mosques and communities.

“In fact, we’re also even urging mosque committees to consider the employment of a security analyst or a security consultant because the terrorist activity is not a monolithic activity. So you’d want a certain briefing from time to time in respect to the dynamics and the strategies that you’d need to do to differ so that as they come in,” he said.

He also called on mosques to discourage people from using the space as a resting place.

According to him, though mosques have largely served as resting places for traders who come to pray, due to the issue of security plaguing the country, it would be safer if the traders were to rather go home after using the mosque for their prayers.

“Our mosques for example sometimes are a resting place for many people we do not know. They come they’re tired, some of those who sell. Now we say no, don’t allow that. T

“They come with their gadgets, they have their bags, containers, they come they remain in the mosques, we say no. this time be on the alert, check who is coming, let the person pray, he finishes he must get out,” he said.

He further advised Muslim preachers of different Islamic orientation to be measured in the messages they preach to the Muslim youths in order not to open them up to radicalization.

“We’re advising Muslim preachers depending on the Islamic orientation you belong to, to be careful the way you preach so you do not goad our young people into accepting that extremist views. Because when you do so then you open the door, that is when you welcome and create the soft grounds for them to enter.

“Because when they come they have soft grounds and safe haven because they have people who thoughts and mindset is like theirs. And so we’re saying that tone down the way you do your preaching,” he said.

Meanwhile he has also called for interfaith collaboration to combat the spread of violent extremism in the country.

According to him, violent extremism has no religious colour and is no respecter of faith, thus it would be beneficial for both Christians and Muslims to exchange information and collaborate to prevent acts of terrorism in the society.

Eid-ul-Adha: Emulate the life of Chief Imam – Akufo-Addo to Muslims https://www.adomonline.com/eid-ul-adha-emulate-the-life-of-chief-imam-akufo-addo-to-muslims/ Tue, 20 Jul 2021 10:59:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1989413 President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his delight in the way of life of the National Chief Imam as he tasks the Muslim flock to emulate him.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Adha prayers organised at the newly inaugurated Mosque complex at Kanda, President Akufo-Addo praised the Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu for upholding religious unity.

The Chief Imam has, for many years, been a preacher of unity, and he made history in April 2019 when he joined a Catholic Church to observe mass during his 100th birthday celebration.

Based on this, President Akufo-Addo has recognised the Muslim leader as a significant pillar in the nation’s religious unity.

President Akufo-Addo prayed for wisdom and strength for Sheikh Dr Sharubutu as he offers more leadership, not just to the Muslim flock but to the entire population.

He, therefore, called on all Ghanaians, typically Muslims to emulate the life of the Chief Imam so as to create a free and conducive atmosphere for the development of the nation.

It is for this unity that President Akufo-Addo stated that the Mosque Complex, which is the second largest in West Africa, is to serve as an ample evidence of peaceful existence.

“The minaret of this mosque is very visible from many parts of Accra. For me, it is not just the beauty that it adds to Accra’s skyline that excites me necessarily. I am even more excited by the fact that, as a Christian-majority country, a symbol of Islam can beautifully adorn our landscape, and expose the beauty of religious harmony that we enjoy in Ghana, and which continues to be the envy of the rest of the world,” the President said in his commissioning speech.

He recommends that those to join the prayers wear masks, use sachet water for purposes of ablution and use personal mats at prayer grounds, among others.
