Ras Kuuku’s ‘Me Mpaebo’ is a nice gospel song – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/ras-kuukus-me-mpaebo-is-a-nice-gospel-song-celestine-donkor/ Fri, 28 Feb 2025 12:45:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2509803 Ghanaian gospel artiste Celestine Donkor has shared her thoughts on the Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ rule that bars non-gospel artistes from being nominated in gospel music categories.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, she explained what defines a gospel song.

“What makes a gospel song, according to me, is when the content is affiliated with God, connected to something about God, or uses godliness to encourage and inspire people,” she stated.

Asked if Ras Kuuku’s song Me Mpaebo qualifies as gospel, she responded, “It’s a gospel song. Yes, it’s a gospel song. It’s a very nice song.”

She also cited Kwabena Kwabena’s Bue Kwan Mame as an example, explaining that although it may not traditionally be categorized as gospel, it resonates with people seeking divine intervention.

“In moments when you need God to open doors, that song makes sense to you,” she added.

Meanwhile, Celestine Donkor has released a new single, Amazing, and is preparing for the 11th edition of Celestial Praiz on March 9 at 3:55 pm.

The event, set to take place at Victory Bible Church, will feature gospel artistes from Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa, including Minister GUC, Zaza, Rev Dadson, and Kwaku Teye.

Celestine Donkor to minister at Joy FM Prayer Summit for Peace 2024 https://www.adomonline.com/celestine-donkor-to-minister-at-joy-fm-prayer-summit-for-peace-2024/ Thu, 14 Nov 2024 12:25:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2471929 Gospel musician Celestine Donkor will minister at the 2024 Joy Prayer Summit for Peace, slated for 22nd November 2024.

The gifted gospel minister will lead worship at the program, which will take place at the Victory Bible Church International (Prophetic Sanctuary, Kokomlemle).

Pastor Kojo Frimpong, Pastor Ato Acquah, Reverend Mike Nii Abossey, other pastors from all sixteen (16) regions of the country, and several notable spiritual fathers of the land will lead this important service.

Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Pastor Ato Acquah said: “We are commanded to pray for the nation in which we are, and the scripture is very specific that we are to pray for peace, because it is in that peace that we will have our peace. There can’t be development in the midst of chaos or war. And so, peace is very essential.”

The Program Manager of Joy FM, Edem Knight-Tay, noted that while the Joy brands are earnestly working to provide credible election reports, it is also important to recognize the spiritual side of the exercise.

“We believe that everything we do will come to naught if there is no Christ in it. So we will pray for the Election Headquarters all we can, but we also believe it is important to ensure that God’s hand is in what we are doing. We can preach peace, but you don’t have anything if God doesn’t give it to you. That is why it is important we go back to God,” she said.

The Joy Prayer Summit for Peace 2024 will be held on 22nd November 2024 at 6:30 p.m.

Celestine Donkor’s manager ‘exposes’ Boomplay over unpaid royalties https://www.adomonline.com/celestine-donkors-manager-exposes-boomplay-over-unpaid-royalties/ Tue, 05 Nov 2024 21:57:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2468836 Kofi Donkor, the manager of gospel musician Celestine Donkor, has called out online streaming service Boomplay for not paying royalties of his artiste.

In his post, he wrote: “Boomplay pay us our Royalties before you close down the Ghana office on Friday!!”

Speaking to myjoyonline.com Kofi Donkor indicated that his artiste has not received any royalties from Boomplay for over a year now.

“They have not paid years for more than a year. And I hear they are even planning on shutting down their office in Ghana. We need to take our monies now,” he said.

Meanwhile, myjoyonline.com’s investigations indicate that Boomplay doesn’t have agreements with artistes directly. Rather, it has agreements with distribution platforms and distributors for the songs that are submitted on the platform.

This means royalty payments are made to distributors who in turn pay artistes based on their percentage share agreements.

Our findings further prove that there have been some challenges with some distributors and distribution platforms, a reason for the non payment of some royalties.

Ours sources establish that some licensing agreements with some platforms have ended and that there have been a confusion over agreeing to new licensing agreements which are still being discussed.

Celestine Donkor is not the only artiste who finds herself in this situation. Royalties of other artistes such as Kofi Sarpong, Okyeame Kwame, Sista Afia, Tinny, King Paluta, Sista Afia, Epixode who have signed on to Boomplay have not been paid.

She said the comments were made in jest and in no way to mock Ewes or the culture they revere but the feedback has been received in good faith.

Celebrated Ghanaian gospel musician, Celestine Donkor has shared her remarkable love story on how she met her husband and circumstances leading up to their marriage.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, she disclosed that she met her lovely husband, Kofi Donkor online, through a friend living abroad who introduced them.

After exchanging phone numbers, they began conversing regularly over Yahoo Messenger, which was the most sought after platform at that time.

Despite never meeting in person, their connection deepened over several months of phone conversations and online dating.

Surprisingly, Celestine Donkor revealed her husband took her engagement list from her family even before meeting her face-to-face.

He traveled to Ghana with the sole purpose of marrying her, driven by a strong belief in their destined union.

“We met through a friend who left Ghana for abroad. They spoke about me, and he took my number, so we were talking on the phone. At the time, it was Yahoo Messenger we were using. My husband then took my engagement list and everything, even before seeing me physically”.

According to the singer, her husband had received spiritual message of her becoming his wife and was awaiting manifestation.

Upon receiving the spiritual clearance, she said he wasted no time in settling down with her and they have been together ever since.

“He came to Ghana purposely to marry me. He said he also prayed about me, and before he met me through my friend, there was a word he was looking forward to. There was just a word hanging on his life, and he was waiting for its manifestation. So when he met my friend and there was a discussion, he got to know that this is the person the man of God spoke about,” Celestine recounted.

The bond between Celestine and her husband is evident as he also doubles as her manager, giving her direction and accompanying her to every event.

The couple have been blessed with three daughters.

TGMA: I’m not surprised I wasn’t nominated – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/tgma-im-not-surprised-i-wasnt-nominated-celestine-donkor/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 12:17:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385878 Renowned gospel musician, Celestine Donkor, has responded gracefully to her exclusion from the nominations in the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

In an interview on Hitz FM, Thursday, Celestine said her snub was expected as her submission fell short of the criteria in approving nominations.

She explained that, TGMA board recognizes works released in the early months of the year under review for the selection process.

However, the song she submitted, ‘Come and See’ was released in November, just few weeks to the closing window.

Despite not getting any nominations, Celestine affirmed her support for her fellow gospel artistes.

She is throwing her weight behind Nacee, who is a contender for the ultimate Artiste of the Year category, as she expressed that a win for any gospel artiste is a triumph for the entire genre.

Celestine, in advance, extended her congratulations to all the nominees and potential awardees, acknowledging their hard work and dedication to their craft.

She emphasized her willingness to perform at the awards ceremony if given the opportunity.

Hopefully next year, she will be back to claim that which she has lost.

Celestine Donkor speaks on report of undergoing weight loss surgery https://www.adomonline.com/celestine-donkor-speaks-on-report-of-undergoing-weight-loss-surgery/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 10:25:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385846 Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor has spoken out regarding reports suggesting she is considering undergoing weight loss surgery.

Contrary to the speculation, Celestine clarified that she has not decided, so “I wouldn’t say no and I wouldn’t say yes.”

Acknowledging the societal pressure to maintain a certain appearance, especially as an artiste, the singer said she has considered the health implications of body altering surgeries.

Per her research, she said such surgeries are usually recommended by doctors based on health assessments, particularly if one’s life is at risk due to weight-related issues.

But, in her case, Celestine said she is very fit and has never experienced high blood pressure or other defects associated with being plus size, so surgery is not an option for her now, until it is recommended.

“I am plus size but very active. I might even overtake a lot of slim people in a marathon. The fat is in my genes, my family, we are big. I have never had high blood pressure or anything. I do regular check-ups and drink a lot of water, and I have enough rest, so health wise, I am fine”.

In an interview on Hitz FM‘s Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, she mentioned that another factor preventing her from surgery is her fear of knives.

Celestine revealed that, she has had enough incisions on her body, from her three caesarian sessions during childbirth.

In view of this, she would rather consider dieting and other less risky alternatives like exercise and intermittent fasting.

Even when gifted a hefty sum of over GH¢50,000 to go under the knife, Celestine maintained that she would choose investing in her soul than in her body.

“I can confidently say here that personally, if I have GH¢40,000 or GH¢50,000 to work on this body, I will invest in my soul. This body will perish, no matter how slim and nicely carved it is.
The worthless creature after death is the human body; even animal body has value because we use them as food, but for humans, the body is no longer worthy, than to be trashed”

Celestine Donkor admonished her fans to accept her as she is, as she will not put her life at risk whatsoever to conform to societal expectations of what an ideal woman should look like.

Having your partner as your manager is the best thing – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/having-your-partner-as-your-manager-is-the-best-thing-celestine-donkor/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 21:02:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2380805 Popular Ghanaian gospel artiste, Celestine Donkor has said having a partner as a manager, particularly for female artistes is the best.

During an interview on TV3, she spoke about her own experience, explaining that having her husband as her manager is “the best thing” that happened to her.

She recounted their journey, starting from scratch and learning together.

“I think, from my experience, it’s the best thing to ever happen to a female artiste. It’s the best thing that can happen to you. My husband and I started from scratch, he was a businessman who was into imports and exports and then he came into music [doing it on a full-time basis].”

Celestine said working together has not only strengthened their relationship but also added enjoyment to their travels and performances, both within Ghana and abroad.

“We can go like a month back to back on the road. Which husband will be staying at home for you? It will be really difficult if you are not on the field with your husband. It’s all part of the fun. It’s even better because we travel together. So we get to enjoy the other things.”

However, she cautioned that there must be mutual interest in music between the couple for such a collaboration to work effectively.

“You need to find out if your partner is, first of all, interested in doing it. If your partner is interested, even if that interest is just 10 or 20 per cent, I think you are good to go. You just need to consult, get information on what the job really entails, and then learn on the job.”

Ghanaian pastors pay Nigerian musicians better than local singers – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaian-pastors-pay-nigerian-musicians-better-than-local-singers-celestine-donkor/ Fri, 08 Dec 2023 14:30:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2329734 Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor says Ghanaian pastors support Nigerian musicians more than their own.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, on Hitz FM, she said Nigerian musicians are paid better than Ghanaian gospel musicians for their performances during church events held in Ghana.

The ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker noted that, while Nigerian artistes are paid as high as $10,000, their Ghanaian counterparts even struggle to get ₵10,000 for shows.

“We have our big pastors, I don’t want to mention names but you can see a whole Ghanaian church line up only strictly Nigerian artistes and in the case where they put a Nigerian and Ghanaian together, they pay Nigerians way better. If the Nigerian is taking $10,000, you will struggle to earn ₵10,000,” Celestine Donkor told the host, DJ Slim, on Thursday.

She argued that, artistes from both Ghana and Nigeria pay in dollars to promote their music on YouTube but Nigerian artistes enjoy an advantage because they receive better pay at events.

“I have been on plenty programmes where Nigerians are on and we know how much they are paid and we (Ghanaian gospel singers) are paid very low,” she added.

Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, she said their longevity and relevance in the industry give them the honour.

According to her, Daughters of Glorious Jesus were the trailblazers who paved the way for many gospel maestros to follow, adding that, their discography is out of this world.

“All the time gospel artiste in Ghana would be Daughters of Glorious Jesus because they are still relevant, their songs command power and when they get on stage they don’t disappoint. There are other legends like Obaapa Christy, Tagoe sisters, Joe Beecham and Elder Mireku, but when we look at all these names I have mentioned, Daughters were the earliest” she said.

Meanwhile, netizens in a social media debate on November 27 sparked a discussion concerning the top 10 greatest Ghanaian gospel artistes of all time.

Fans cited various factors such as vocal prowess, impact on the industry, and the timeless nature of their songs to justify their choices.

But Celestine Donkor is certain none of the gospel musicians is at par with Daughters of Glorious Jesus when it comes to mileage and craft.

She explained that, Mr. Mettle has not attained the feat chalked by veteran gospel musicians like Tagoe Sisters, Daughters of Glorious Jesus and Elder Mireku to be called a GOAT.

To Celestine Donkor, the popular musician is a young legend in the industry.

Celestine Donkor who is currently promoting her latest song with Obaapa Christy said this on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM

“I was going to mention Obaapa Christy, Tagoe Sisters, Joe Bechem and Elder Mireku, Daughters who are the earliest among the list so we need to look at the life span. Joe Mettle is great, but I don’t think he fits in the category. He is a young great artiste but to put him in that category is too much. If you give daughters a 72-hour marathon, they will nail it easily,” she added.

Nathaniel Bassey’s advice to Ghanaian gospel musicians was inspired by guilt – Celestine Donkor  https://www.adomonline.com/nathaniel-basseys-advice-to-ghanaian-gospel-musicians-was-inspired-by-guilt-celestine-donkor/ Thu, 07 Dec 2023 20:24:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2329338 Celestine Donkor has said that Nigerian gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey made his recent admonition to his Ghanaian counterparts out of guilt.

The ‘Agbe Boloo’ gospel singer told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces that, Nathaniel passed the comment because most Nigerian artistes are given more premium in Ghana than the Ghanaian artistes.

“You receive a call for an event, there are about five Nigerian artistes on it and you know that they have paid them huge sums of money but the moment you put your cards on the table, that is the end of the conversation,” she said.

She also noted that it is difficult for Ghanaians to gain appreciable reception in Nigeria unlike the Nigerian artistes get in Ghana.

“For me I think this prophecy was inspired by guilt. It was inspired by guilt because you host a concert in somebody’s country, you put only two of their celebrated artistes on their concert. And because you are feeling guilty about the whole thing clashing with some concerts that are already going on, you prophesy that our time will come,” she noted.

According to her, Nathaniel should rather have advised the Nigerian music industry to be more receptive to Ghanaian musicians.

“I respect Nathaniel Bassey so much but I pray that he will also use the same platform like that, when he gets on the stage of Experience, when he gets on big platforms. He is a global icon. We honour and celebrate him. He should also speak that give your brothers in sister in Ghana a chance,” she said.

Her comment comes after Nathaniel had said at the Jesus Encounter Concert in Accra that Ghanaian gospel musicians should do more songs in English in order to reach wider audiences across the world.

His message has since re-ignited the debate on the role of language in song appreciation.

While some say language doesn’t matter, others hold the opinion that gospel music thrives mainly on message, a reason it is adviseable to use a language that a lot of people can understand and relate to.

Building global success requires a strong home foundation – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/building-global-success-requires-a-strong-home-foundation-celestine-donkor/ Thu, 07 Dec 2023 14:35:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2329211 Award-winning gospel singer, Celestine Donkor has lamented about the lack of support for musicians in the country adding that Ghanaians are more receptive to foreign musicians than their own.

Reacting to Nathaniel Bassey’s comment that gospel musicians should write songs in English to reach an international audience, the ‘Agbebolo’ singer said singing in English does not guarantee global success.

“There are so many factors like marketing and one of the powerful things that would put you out there is your people, singing English is an advantage but it is not the only factor.

The input we get from our people is most important, Ghanaian music space has given Nigerians a fertile ground and has made them succeed in being able to come and host programs here but we don’t have that advantage. Pastors in Ghana pay Nigerians better than Ghanaians. We are so open to receiving their songs, that we have promoted them” she said.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, Celestine emphasized that, she would have appreciated it better if Nathaniel Bassey had tasked Ghanaians to be more supportive of musicians.

“It is very intentional for Nigerians to make sure that they don’t give enough airplay to foreign musicians. We have to help each other I would have appreciated it better if he asked Ghanaians to support their own on that stage. It’s not like we can’t write in English, but we don’t give it enough reception” she stated.

I wanted a man with a hairy chest – Celestine Donkor  https://www.adomonline.com/i-wanted-a-man-with-a-hairy-chest-celestine-donkor/ Mon, 17 Apr 2023 13:03:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2240113 For most people, having certain desired qualities in their ideal spouses is a big deal; a situation gospel musician Celestine Donkor found herself in before she got married.

In a book she has authored with her husband Kofi Donkor, Beyond the Rhythm, Celestine indicates that prior to her marriage, she had always fancied having a husband who had hair on his chest.

Unfortunately for her, the man she got married to, who is also her manager, does not have that feature.

She said because of that, her husband was goaded to start using hair growth creams on his chest but to no avail.

She, however, noted that anytime she thinks about, it fascinates her because there are more important attributes she has discovered in her husband than just chest hair.

‘Beyond the Rhythm’ by Kofi Donkor & Celestine Donkor

“I told him I wanted someone I could confidently go to places with. Someone with a hairy chest. Laughs! I wanted my ideal man. But guess what? My man has zero hair so he resorted to buying a hair growth cream and began applying it religiously to grow his chest.

I laugh when I think about it even till today. All the same, more importantly, I was on fire for God and I had matured so much in Him that meeting someone like my husband who was that interested in my spiritual welfare and growth meant everything to me. That was the biggest attraction for me,” she wrote.

The book, Beyond the Rhythm, also recounts how Celestine got connect to Kofi who was then in Korea. They started dating and agreed on marriage before they even met for the first time.

Kofi Donkor, is currently the manager of Celestine Donkor.

They are blessed with three children.

Corporate Ghana does not understand showbiz – Celestine Donkor’s manager  https://www.adomonline.com/corporate-ghana-does-not-understand-showbiz-celestine-donkors-manager/ Wed, 12 Apr 2023 10:26:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2238477 Kofi Donkor, the manager of gospel musician Celestine Donkor has bemoaned how difficult it is for gospel musicians to get sponsorship and ambassadorial deals.

He said on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM that most companies they approach to help support their music businesses decline their requests.

“I think Corporate Ghana does not really understand showbiz. That is my understanding. They don’t understand, so sometimes when you send a proposal to them, it just doesn’t make sense to them because they don’t just understand,” he said.

Asked if gospel musicians lose out on ambassadorial deals because most of the products do not fit the gospel agenda, he answered in the affirmative.

“You approach a financial institution with every document you need to prove, and they look and it and say they don’t have a model for our business,” he told the host Kwame Dadzie.

“Most of them will say that we are religious people so it is difficult to get them to reason along our lines. No matter the numbers you have, they see you as coming from that side; you know, this is religion and they don’t want to associate with you,” Kofi Donkor added.

Kofi also indicated that he once worked with one insurance company on Celestial Praiz from the 4th edition but for the past three editions they have pulled out on them. The new management would not want to be identified with a religious concert because the owners of the company belong to a different religion.

According to him, some gospel musicians are also not well-positioned with their brands to attract investors.

He advised it was time the gospel fraternity emphasised that gospel musicians have huge numbers and that they have what it takes to market products.

According to her, some wives who receive housekeeping monies from ₵5,000 and above will sing higher praises to God than a wife with a lower amount.

“Be thankful to your husbands especially the ones who give you 5,000 cedis as your monthly chop money, such women who receive that will sing ‘I never knew you will favour me this way’.”

“But those who receive ₵2,000 to ₵3,000 will sing ‘How can I describe a mighty one like you.’

“And those who receive ₵1,000 and below will sing ‘Medi me ho ato Nyame so’.

The ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker continued that wives who will receive less than ₵1,000 will not get any Celestine Donkor song but will rather sing Nigeria’s Gloria Oluchi’s “we are in battle, we are in battle in this world.”

I sold charcoal, porridge, beans to pay my school fees – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/i-sold-charcoal-porridge-beans-to-pay-my-school-fees-celestine-donkor/ Fri, 04 Nov 2022 10:35:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2179444 Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor, has disclosed that she sold charcoal, porridge, beans and other foodstuffs to finance her education.

Selling on the street was a better alternative to survive the harsh economic challenges since her parents were not financially stable enough to cater for the whole family.

In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning, the ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker recounted that “at a point, we had to survive by ourselves at a very young age; you have to think of paying your fees.

“So, when you come back from school, you need to think of what to sell and how to raise money for the following morning. I’ve sold corn, charcoal, ‘kookoo’ (porridge),” she recalled on Wednesday, November 2.

Over the period, Celestine Donkor said she used to wonder why her parents were alive but could not provide her basic needs.

“As a young girl, one of the prayers I constantly prayed and asked God was, ‘Why didn’t you bless my parents to take care of me? It was a prayer I always prayed in a deep place.

“I didn’t understand why my parents are alive and I have to still be like an orphan in someone’s house. It is different when your parents are dead,” the celebrated singer explained.

Music ministry

According to Celestine Donkor, she was encouraged by her husband to start producing her own songs after many years of being a backing vocalist.

She recounted a situation where her first breakthrough song ‘Supernatural’ was rejected by the church she fellowshipped with.

“…these were declarations by Dr Mensah Otabil. Every year, he releases a theme for the year, and it comes to declarations. So, it was in this year that I was praying with the declaration and I got my breakthrough.https://www.youtube.com/embed/RgmXJaNKOno

“I decided that I’d put it in a song as a gift to the church. I did not intend to release it to the public. I took it to the church, and some way, somehow, it wasn’t accepted. So somebody advised me to take it out and do a video,” she narrated.

The musician has released a new song and is set to drop an album between now and early 2023.

Celestine Donkor in dilemma after receiving mouth-watering deal from betting company https://www.adomonline.com/celestine-donkor-in-dilemma-after-receiving-mouth-watering-deal-from-betting-company/ Wed, 22 Jun 2022 11:56:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2129277 Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor, is in a fix after receiving a mouth-watering deal from a foreign online betting company.

The gospel act has shared her fears on social media, where she was seeking opinion on whether or not to reject the deal.

In a recent post on Instagram, she shared a screenshot of the proposal from the betting company, requesting to be one of their advertisers.

She stands to benefit from $500 to $7,000 yearly should she sell traffic on her social media page to the advertising network.

A portion of the proposal read: “Your target audience quite suits us. According to primary analytics, there may be 30 target registrations in our betting company per your 100 subscribers. Throughout the year, your page can bring you income from $ 500 to $ 7,000 per year by placing our brand for upcoming sporting events!”

The offer seems juicy to Celestine, giving the lack of investment and sponsorship to gospel artistes and the economic setback the country is currently facing.

She that notwithstanding is second-guessing, worrying it might contradict her stance as a minister of the gospel.

“Is betting a sin? Is it wrong for a gospel artiste to endorse a betting company?” she quizzed her followers.

In a post on Instagram, the musician said she got enraged after seeing the young preacher being beaten by a passerby who had issues with the evangelist’s ministry.

She noted that people have the the right to freedom of worship in the country, therefore, it is beyond reasoning to witness such an incident.

“I will not rest until I see this guy arrested. May heaven not be quiet on this wickedness. How can you beat up someone like this just because he is preaching? What happened to our freedom of worship?” she quizzed.

She stated that this can trigger the assault of other preachers and gospel musicians.

She urged Christians to not stay quiet over the assault.

“This is a no no no! Christians let’s not be quiet about this. No one can do this to a Muslim and go free,” she stated.

Celestine Donkor

Meanwhile, some people on social media have mounted a search for the man who assaulted the preacher.

In the video that is going viral, the man approached the preacher out of the blue, grabbed his hands and twisted it in an attempt to snatch the microphone.

When the pastor resisted, the man slapped him (the preacher).

He continuously assaulted the pastor until his (the pastor’s) colleague came to his rescue.

The video has angered many people who are promising to get the man arrested for assault.

Other people also wondered why observers, who could be heard saying “oh”, did not rush in to stop the assault.

“Sometimes we the observers behave so weird and inhuman. See people standing and watching the beatings the guy is receiving without rushing to his rescue,” one user wrote on Instagram.

“Getting him arrested for the violence Yes, he needs to be dealt with lawfully…but it’s about time Christians know you can’t just insult other belief systems because of what you believe,” another added.

My ‘$40,000 for rice business’ comment won’t affect my relationship with Empress Gifty – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/my-40000-for-rice-business-comment-wont-affect-my-relationship-with-empress-gifty-celestine-donkor/ Wed, 23 Feb 2022 11:45:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2083194 Gospel artiste, Celestine Donkor, has said that she would not allow her comments regarding the preference to use $40,000 on rice business, instead of on a music video, to cause enmity between her and Empress Gifty.

According to her, she reached out to Empress Gifty after seeing publications that suggested that she dissed her with the comments she made on Adom FM, because it was in reference to a claim by the former that her latest music video cost that much.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Celestine Donkor explained that, “so no offence to anyone, Gifty and me, we chat, we are cool. What I can promise everyone is that whatever I will do to make sure that my intentions about Gifty are known to her, I would do it behind the scenes. And I will make ensure that this would never bring enmity between us, I will make sure of it.”

This comes after Empress Gifty claimed she spent about $40,000 on her newly released music video for her song ‘Eyɛ Woa’.

According to her, she and her team are always striving to put out quality work, and this urge usually overrides concerns for money.

In February, Celestine Donkor was asked in an interview if she would spend the same amount of money on a music video. She replied she would use the money to rather invest in a rice business.

Celestine Donkor believes she would get more money selling and importing rice than spending that much money on a music video.

But, reacting to the backlash, the ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker noted that she had no idea that Empress Gifty was the artiste that made those claims.

She explained that she took the question as a general one and answered with no malice intended.

She stated that “I was shocked but I understood why the headlines were like that, because those ones knew that Gifty had said that earlier. I didn’t know, so I did a video to say that I have nothing against Gifty.”

My new songs are doing well in Kenya than in Ghana – Celestine Donkor https://www.adomonline.com/my-new-songs-are-doing-well-in-kenya-than-in-ghana-celestine-donkor/ Wed, 23 Feb 2022 11:21:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2083188 Award-winning Ghanaian Gospel Artiste, Celestine Donkor, has revealed that her music is doing really well on streaming platforms in Kenya than in Ghana at the moment.

She made this revelation in an interview on the Hitz 103.9 FM Daybreak Hitz Show after she was asked whether she is against the hullabaloo of Ghanaian Gospel Musicians not getting shows in other countries.

The ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker said there are measures musicians need to take in order for their music to appeal to the global market, which has got to do with their brand positioning.

To her, once your music is seen, heard and loved in other countries the people would connect to you.

She also touched on how easy it has become in recent times for musicians to get their music across borders due to the mechanics available to them.

“I think that there are things that you need to do if you want your product or music to appeal to everybody on the globe. You need to position yourself that way. I believe that if you are seen in other countries, they hear you, they love what you are bringing them, they would connect to you and it is even easier in our days because we can actually target audience and push your song to them so we should focus knowing how these things work so we work at them,” she told host Andy Dosty.

Talking about how well her current EP is performing on streaming platforms in Kenya than in Ghana, she indicated that it is something she and her team were made aware of, based on the numbers provided by streaming platforms including YouTube.

“My new EP, I don’t know what is happening but is currently doing very well in Kenya than in Ghana. Kenya is actually leading in terms of streaming and viewing of my current EP so in this case hosting an event in Kenya would be a smart idea,” she indicated.

Disclosing what led to achieving such a feat, she said it was as a result of a spectacular performance she rendered at a concert dubbed ‘The Praise Atmosphere’ which caused the people of Kenya to fall in love with her, thereby naming her as the “Crazy Woman” due to her performance on stage.

The video of the performance amassed a million views in two days on YouTube after the concert, she highlighted.

She went on to say that she was not surprised about the love being shown to her by the people of Kenya as this was how she got her breakthrough there.

Celestine Donkor is set to return with Celestial Praiz on the 6th March 2022 at the Victory Bible Church Dominion Sanctuary, Awoshie, after it went on a hiatus for two years due to Covid-19.

This year’s edition promises to be very exciting as the likes of Obaapa Christy, Kofi Peprah and The Bethel Revival Choir are billed to perform.

In an interview on Adom FM‘s weekend show, Entertainment Hall, the gospel musician asked lovers to look past challenges in relationships though they are inevitable.

According to her, she has been successfully married to her husband for 16 years because she doesn’t make challenges a core part of her problems.

The ‘Agbebolo’ hitmaker advised couples to treat challenges as a visitor that will eventually leave their home when it comes to visit.

“We don’t let anything come between us… there are challenges… there is no marriage without them… We handle challenges as a visitor. It will definitely leave. The marriage doesn’t have to go down. There are some things that you have to pay attention to,” she said.

“We’ve been married for 16 years,” she climaxed the interview.

GHAMRO pays ¢11,000 to Celestine Donkor as royalties https://www.adomonline.com/ghamro-pays-%c2%a211000-to-celestine-donkor-as-royalties/ Sun, 23 Jan 2022 23:37:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2070217 With many musicians complaining about the inefficiency of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and the little money some receive, the manager of Gospel singer, Celestine Donkor, has made public, how much they’ve been given so far.

In a post, Kofi Donkor, who is also the singer’s husband, revealed that as of Thursday, January 20, 2022, they have been given GH₵11,000 as royalties.

According to him, this is the highest amount of money they have received from the organisation since they joined the industry.

“I am happy to announce that at 2:44 pm today, we got our final payment (of royalties). So between my artiste and myself, we have received in excess of GH₵11,000,” Mr Donkor said.

This follows his initial complaints about receiving a paltry sum of money as royalties in 2020. At the time, a screenshot attached to his post revealed that he was given GH₵390 by GHAMRO.

“I have executively produced five albums and two singles. This is what I got for almost two years.

“My artiste has five albums, two singles with our label. She has eight features with other Ghanaian artistes all registered with GHAMRO,” Mr Donkor wrote.

However, after the post, he received a clarification from GHAMRO that the amount was only one of three payments due him and his artiste.

MORE:

To thank GHAMRO for following through with their promise, Mr Donkor shared the amount they have received in total.

He added that although this is impressive, GHAMRO can do better.

“I think it is only fair that I appreciate the hard work of the GHAMRO administration and Board for this,” he added.

GHAMRO’s new royalty collection system

Meanwhile, in September, 2021, GHAMRO announced new measures to aid in their royalty collections.

The Chairman, Rex Omar, revealed that his outfit had signed a deal with a new digital royalty collection body, Capasso.

According to him, Capasso collects the digital royalties for artistes and right owners as part of GHAMRO’s efforts to digitalise its operations to enable creators earn their due from their works.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ Mapitso Sebidi, Mr. Omar explained that this deal ensures that the digital rights licensing company provides monitoring systems to help track songs of Ghanaian right owners on digital platforms.

He stated that his outfit has even received royalties for some artistes who are yet to register with GHAMRO.

“We have some good money sitting down in dollars. Now the money comes with the name attached, so you can’t give somebody’s money to somebody. As I am talking, Sarkodie as an artiste, has not assigned his right to GHAMRO even though we are holding his money for him.”
