In an interview on Hitz FM’s morning show, OB revealed that he does not make a profit from his comedy events. He shared that his recent comedy show at the Bukom Boxing Arena left him in debt.

“I made a loss of about GH₵40,000,” he told the host DJ Slim.

OB, who has organized several comedy specials, including Popular But Broke at the National Theatre of Ghana, acknowledged the challenges comedians face when organizing their own shows. Despite the financial setbacks, he views the investment in his craft as valuable.

In December 2024, OB made history by filling the 4,000-capacity Bukom Boxing Arena with his 10th anniversary comedy show.

Before the show, he voiced his frustration on social media, complaining about the high tax elements on tickets sold for events. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Ghana Revenue Authority’s decision to place taxes on complimentary tickets, calling it unfair.

OB’s revelation sheds light on the struggles comedians in Ghana often face, where despite their popularity and talent, they struggle to make a sustainable living from their craft.

Bukom Boxing Arena will be used to nurture boxing talent – John Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/bukom-boxing-arena-will-be-used-to-nurture-boxing-talent-john-mahama/ Tue, 13 Aug 2024 13:45:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2433113 Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to rejuvenate the sport of boxing in Ghana if he wins the 2024 General Elections.

Mahama made this commitment known during a Town Hall Meeting with Ghanaian youth at the Trust Sports Emporium, also known as the Bukom Boxing Arena, in honour of International Youth Day on Monday.

Ghana recently failed to qualify a boxer for the Paris Olympic Games, marking the first time in over 20 years that the country has not been represented in boxing at the Olympics.

Mahama emphasized that the Bukom Boxing Arena would serve as a hub for discovering and nurturing boxing talent from across the nation.

“This arena is not just this over; it is a complex. There’s a gym, a hostel, a restaurant, and a school. So even when the young people are training as boxers, they can attend classes and not miss school.

He further added that the original plan was for the Ghana Boxing Association to scout for young talents across various regions using mobile boxing rings.

“The intention was that the Ghana Boxing Association would go around the regions with mobile boxing rings to identify young talents. When they found these young talents, they would pick them and bring them to the centre of excellence. That was the purpose. Unfortunately, it hasn’t realized its full potential.

“Nonetheless, it is something we still have in mind because we have talent all over the country,” he added.

The former President made the pledge on Monday during a Town Hall Meeting at the Bukom Arena with young Ghanaians to commemorate the 2024 International Youth Day.
