Citing the Bible to buttress his point, Bukom Banku said by faith Sarah received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, therefore he believes with faith, he will conquer the world.

“It is good that even at 41 years; I have won my first international bout. Just imagine, Sarah in the Bible, she was very old but she was able to give birth because she had faith and so I am ready to fight and win more titles,” he said.

Banku, who believes he has now renewed his future, said he trained hard for the fight because he did not want to be a disgrace to his country.

Mayweather made $178,000 per second in McGregor fight https://www.adomonline.com/mayweather-made-178000-per-second-mcgregor-fight/ Mon, 28 Aug 2017 11:34:06 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=438631 Congrats, you just made $178,041!
Well, that is, if you’re Floyd Mayweather, standing in the ring against Conor McGregor on Saturday night — and you took one second to read that sentence.
In what has to be the biggest single payout in sports history, the 40-year-old Mayweather stands to make a total of $300 million for his win over 29-year-old MMA superstar McGregor. (He’d have made the same win or lose, so the fact that he won by KO to preserve his perfect 50-0 record is just gravy.)
Saturday night’s fight carried a $100 million guaranteed purse for Mayweather, but he also gets a sizeable chunk of the pay-per-view from Showtime. Estimates range from $150 million to $200 million for that part, so we’re giving the benefit of the doubt (and his own personal estimate) here.
The fight went nine full 3-minute rounds, plus 1:05 of Round 10 before it was stopped, for a total of 28 minutes, 5 seconds. That’s 1,685 seconds in all, meaning Mayweather was working for $178,041 per second — about twice the $83,000-per-second average he made in 12 rounds against Manny Pacquiao.
McGregor didn’t exactly walk away poor: His guaranteed purse was $30 million, more than all his MMA prizes combined. He stands to get some Showtime money, too, but nothing like what Mayweather brought in for his final performance.
In terms of straight salary, $300 million is more than any pro athlete has made over a career, let alone a single night — largely due to salary cap and revenue restrictions. There have been plenty of $100 million contracts, but those are usually spread over several years.
In other words, it’s safe to say that Floyd Mayweather is the highest-paid athlete the world has ever seen, at least in terms of time spent engaged in his sport.
And chances are it only took him a second or two to eclipse the highest-paid person you know.

Floyd Mayweather: No sex before McGregor fight https://www.adomonline.com/floyd-mayweather-no-sex-mcgregor-fight/ Thu, 17 Aug 2017 07:29:47 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=401831 Floyd Mayweather says he’s putting business before pleasure — and won’t have sex before he fights Conor McGregor.
It’s an old superstition that’s been around the boxing game for years. You remember Mick from the ‘Rocky’ movies famously said, “Women weaken legs”.
Floyd seems to agree. Conor McGregor has a different strategy.
“That is most certainly a superstition that I do not abide by,” Conor told Conan O’Brienback in 2015 … “I definitely have as much sex as possible.”
So, to bang or not to bang? That is the question …

Pacquiao wants review of 'unfair' Horn loss https://www.adomonline.com/pacquiao-wants-review-unfair-horn-loss/ Wed, 05 Jul 2017 07:05:41 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=268601 Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday urged the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to review the “unfair decision and officiating” after losing his welterweight title to Australia’s Jeff Horn.
Pacquiao endorsed a formal call by the Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board for the WBO to review the outcome of Sunday’s fight in Brisbane.
“I love boxing and I don’t wanna see it dying because of unfair decision and officiating,” Pacquiao, 38, said in a statement issued by his office.
“I had already accepted the decision but as a leader and, at the same time, fighter I have the moral obligation to uphold sportsmanship, truth and fairness in the eyes of the public,” said Pacquiao, also a sitting senator.
In the twilight of a 22-year pro career in which he won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, Pacquiao had initially called for a rematch, but later said he would also “think hard” about retiring.
Widely written off by observers, Horn, 29, shocked Pacquiao with his ultra-aggressiveness to earn a unanimous 12-round decision.
A day after the bout, the Philippines’ sports regulatory body wrote the WBO calling for a “thorough review” on the decisions of American referee Mark Nelson and the judges.
“We are making this request for a review, which may call for sanctions on the referee and judges if so warranted, in furtherance of our mutual goal of protecting the integrity of the sport,” the board wrote.
Pacquiao attached a copy of the letter to his own statement.
“WBO should take appropriate action on the letter sent by the Games and Amusement Board so as not to erode the people’s interest in boxing,” Pacquiao said.
The WBO on Tuesday responded to the controversy in its Twitter account.
“The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Pac vs Horn,” the WBO said.
“The contract for Pac vs Horn provides a rematch clause, which the WBO is in accordance (with) if the promoters decide to move forward.”
While saying he respected the fight outcome, Pacquiao had questioned the referee’s decisions and made disparaging comments about Horn.
“He’s not really good but he’s really strong,” Pacquiao said of Horn on Monday, while the Filipino’s camp criticised the referee for supposedly allowing the undefeated Australian to get away with a host of illegal tactics.
“The problem here is that the referee, I don’t know if he did it deliberately or he just did not have experience, he just allowed it and did not even give any warning for how many times,” Pacquiao said.
“It’s as if the referee wanted to help my opponent.”

Bukom Banku: I will beat ‘undefeated’ Anthony Johsua easily https://www.adomonline.com/bukom-banku-will-beat-undefeated-anthony-johsua-easily/ Mon, 08 May 2017 10:45:09 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=108361 Brimah Kamoko has challenged heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua to step up to fight him immediately.

Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku is absolutely confident he will achieve victory over undefeated Anthony Joshua should the British boxer agree to fight him.

Joshua is yet to taste defeat having fought 19 professional fights with all victories coming by way of knockout. His latest win over the great Wladimir Klitschko has made him the hottest commodity on the boxing market as far as the heavyweight division is concerned.

Joshua stopped Klitschko in the 11th round to secure a stunning victory at Wembley Stadium to retain the IBF belt and also bagged the WBA and IBO strap but Banku who watched the bout is unperturbed and fully convinced he is the right man to defeat Joshua.

‘’I would love to fight Joshua, am serious about it and will beat him if we fight. I know some people will doubt me because Joshua is unbeaten and has beaten some top guys[Klitschko] in his division but they also have to trust me[their countryman]’’ He said on Joy Fm Sports Link program on Saturday

‘’I will beat him[Joshua] hands down. I watched his fight with Klitschko and was not impressed with him but happy he defeated the Ukrainian,’’

‘’For Klitschko he cannot stand me so don’t want to fight him’’

Banku, also undefeated in 28 professional bout with 21 knockouts, is preparing to face Bastie Samir in what could be the biggest bout in the country in 2017.

The super-middleweight fighter, Bastie Samir, has thrown a challenge to the Cruiserweight champion to fight him or shut up.

Bastie, a former sparring partner of Floyd Mayweather Jr, is confident he will beat Bukom Banku but the latter has other ideas.

“I will fight Bastie Samir to prove to all that defeating him is very simple.”

‘’Bastie is a cheap and inexperience boxer. I beat him mercilessly.’’

The date for the bout is yet to be decided.
