The Cherries were frustrated to be knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brentford in midweek but were full of energy and invention against Spurs, doing to their opponents what Frank’s side inflicted on Manchester City last weekend.

As they did at home to Wolves last Saturday, Bournemouth took the lead with their first attack of the game as Marco Senesi picked out Evanilson, whose low shot looped off Cristian Romero and over goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The visitors should have been out of sight early in the second half after creating a succession of opportunities to add to their advantage, but a combination of poor finishing and smart goalkeeping helped keep Spurs in the game.

Antoine Semenyo headed narrowly over the crossbar five minutes after Evanilson’s opener, while David Brooks was denied by the crossbar early in the second half.

The hosts’ first shot on target – a Lucas Bergvall drive from the edge of the box in the 68th minute – flew straight at Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, while Mathys Tel’s sweetly struck volley in second-half stoppage time was the closest they came to salvaging a point they scarcely deserved.

The win moves Bournemouth level on points with Spurs, with both teams having won two of their opening three league matches.

The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2030, turning down advances from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the former Bristol City striker revealed that feeling valued by the Cherries was key to his decision.

“When you’re somewhere, you want to feel wanted, and I didn’t feel that elsewhere, so this was my safe place,” he said.

“I felt wanted and it’s good to be back. It’s still the best place to be right now,” Semenyo added.

Semenyo enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 37 league appearances.

His performances cemented his status as a regular starter under manager Andoni Iraola.

He is expected to play a pivotal role in Bournemouth’s plans for the upcoming season.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year deal which will allow him to debut at the newly expanded tournament in the United States.

Both clubs confirmed the move with Madrid saying that one-time Spain international Huijsen will officially join on 1 June.

Their first match of the Club World Cup is against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal on 18 June.

The fee will be paid in three instalments, with Huijsen’s two former clubs set to receive a slice of the fee – Juventus are due 10% and Malaga 5%.

Huijsen had as many as seven offers on the table, and had attracted interest from Premier League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Huijsen has chosen Real and will return to Spain where he grew up, playing for Costa Unida CF academy in Marbella and Malaga’s youth team.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Real manager, has been instrumental in the decision to sign the defender and prioritised signing a young centre-back.

Huijsen joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for a fee of £12.6m.

The Netherlands-born defender has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries this season, scoring three times.

Huijsen is set to become Madrid’s second signing from the Premier League this summer, with Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also set to move to the Spanish capital.

Huijsen was subject of an international tug-of-war between the Netherlands, where he was born, and Spain, where he was raised.

He opted to play for Spain, and made his debut for the 2024 European Championship winners against the Netherlands in March 2025.

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, who gave Huijsen his international debut, says the defender is “ready” for the move to the Bernabeu.

“I see him – if nothing gets in the way – as capable of playing for any team,” De La Fuente told BBC Sport.

“I don’t see any limits. Huijsen is having a great season in the Premier League and is ready. I’m sure he’ll keep improving with time, naturally.”

United will celebrate Christmas in 13th position after another below-par display that leaves them with just seven points from Amorim’s six games in charge.

In contrast, Bournemouth are fifth, which could be enough to qualify for a place in next season’s Champions League given the results of English clubs in European competition so far this season.

United never recovered from Dean Huijsen’s 29th-minute header as Bournemouth exploited the home side’s defensive weaknesses at set-pieces.

Justin Kliuvert sent Andre Onana the wrong way from the spot after the forward had been tripped by Noussair Mazroaui.

Two minutes later Antoine Semenyo was unmarked as he swept home Dango Ouattara’s cross after Kobbie Mainoo had given away possession inside his own half.

Semenyo was absent from Ghana’s final matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to injury.

The Black Stars ended the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Angola and a 2-1 loss to Niger.

The Cherries were given a free-kick six minutes into stoppage time and, with everybody including the goalkeeper forward, Marcus Tavernier found an unmarked Evanilson at the near post and Bournemouth’s record signing flicked a header into the far corner.

Villa had been the better side and went ahead in the 76th minute when Ross Barkley hooked in Leon Bailey’s header back across goal.

Earlier, John McGinn had a strike ruled out in the 28th minute after a long video assistant referee (VAR) review.

McGinn converted Ollie Watkins’ cutback, but it was ruled that the ball had narrowly rolled out of play for a Bournemouth goal-kick just before Watkins gathered possession.

Despite Villa’s dominance Cherries substitute Evanilson had the final word, scoring for just the second time since he joined Bournemouth from Porto in August for a club record £40.2m fee.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery told BBC Match of the Day that “of course” his side deserved to win.

The Gunners faced a challenging match at Vitality Stadium, where they finished with 10 players after William Saliba received a red card in the 30th minute, significantly impacting their game plan.

“We have no one coming back that we didn’t expect… Kamaldeen is still a bit away from being with us,” Martin said.

Sulemana, who made 18 appearances and contributed two goals and an assist in the Championship last season, is yet to feature in the Premier League this term following Southampton’s return to the top flight.

Additionally, Southampton will be without midfielder Will Smallbone, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. Both Smallbone and Sulemana are expected to be back after the international break in October.

The Cherries’ £40m record signing Evanilson had earlier missed an excellent chance to score his first Premier League goal when he had a poor first-half penalty parried away by Robert Sanchez.

Bournemouth constantly tormented Chelsea’s defence, capitalising on their often lacklustre distribution and getting in behind the back line.

But the hosts did not make the most of having the bulk of the chances and were made to pay by Nkunku, who prodded the ball past Mark Travers after a through-ball from debutant Jadon Sancho.

It was a hard-fought and aggressive encounter on the south coast, with referee Anthony Taylor handing out a Premier League record 14 yellow cards.

Following Dominic Solanke’s record €64.3 million move from Bournemouth to Spurs, the goal-scoring burden has shifted to Semenyo, who has already contributed a goal and an assist in his first two league matches.

He will aim to add to his tally when Bournemouth faces West Ham in the EFL Cup at the London Stadium on Wednesday, before heading to Everton for their next Premier League clash on Saturday.

Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 23rd minute when striker Chris Wood found the back of the net, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

Forest controlled much of the possession and appeared to be on course for a win until the 86th minute when Semenyo levelled the score.

Bournemouth’s relentless pressure paid off when a deflected ball fell to Semenyo, who made no mistake in firing it past Forest’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson from close range.

While Bournemouth had more attempts on goal, it was Forest’s dominance in possession that led to Wood’s opener.

However, Semenyo’s late heroics ensured that both teams left with a share of the points.

The Ecuadorian amazed all inside Stamford Bridge when he controlled Neto’s clearance and struck from inside the centre circle in the 17th minute for his first Chelsea goal.

Raheem Sterling doubled Chelsea’s lead at the start of the second half before Benoit Badiashile could only direct Enes Unal’s effort into his own goal as Andoni Iraola’s side cut the deficit.

Despite missing some games due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, Semenyo has been a linchpin in Andoni Iraola’s squad.

Since his move from Bristol City in January 2023, Semenyo has overcome initial challenges, including injuries, to emerge as a potent attacking force in his first full season with Bournemouth.

During the match, Arsenal and their fans paid tribute to 14-year-old supporter Daniel Anjorin, who was killed in a sword attack on Tuesday.

Semenyo suffered a knee injury in the final minutes of Bournemouth’s 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, but he has recovered well and is expected to be available for selection against the Gunners.

“I was surprised that the next day he woke up feeling better. The knee was not so swollen, so we could have some hope with him. There is news this week that the MRI has been clear so Antoine has been doing some things with the team this week,” Iraola told the official club website.

“Everyone was delighted after Sunday. Antoine is an important player for us, with a great character, and everyone loves him; this is very good news for us. He’s going to be involved in the squad, and this is the best news for us this week,” he added.

Semenyo marked his return to the starting line-up with the opening goal, taking his tally to eight for the season when he slotted in from close range after Wolves failed to clear.

It was no less than the visitors deserved as they employed a positive approach from the outset.

Bournemouth created a plethora of chances with top scorer Dominic Solanke, Alex Scott, Kerkez and Justin Kluivert all testing home keeper Jose Sa, who performed admirably in the face of constant pressure.

The Cherries’ profligacy in front of goal looked like it was going to be punished when Hwang Hee-chan looked to have equalised in the second half, but his effort was ruled out after the video assistant referee (VAR) asked on-field official Stuart Attwell to check the pitchside monitor for a foul in the build-up.

Andoni Iraola’s side hung on throughout the closing stages – including 12 minutes of stoppage time – for a win that moves them up to 10th, two points behind eighth-placed West Ham, while Wolves drop to 12th.

Captain Bruno Fernandes scored both goals for the visitors, who first trailed to Dominic Solanke’s opener before Justin Kluivert gave the Cherries a half-time lead.

Solanke ensured Bournemouth took reward for their positive start with an assured finish low into the corner after getting the better of Willy Kambwala in the 16th minute.

That breakthrough only served to further motivate the home side and Andre Onana was required to deny Milos Kerkez at his near post shortly after, before Luis Sinisterra shot narrowly wide and Ryan Christie twice went close.

Bournemouth were punished for their wastefulness in front of goal when Fernandes levelled from Alejandro Garnacho’s cut-back.

But Kluivert restored the hosts’ lead five minutes later as a simple ball from Marcos Senesi exposed the generous amount of space between Diogo Dalot and Kambwala.

Bournemouth should have been out of sight before the interval, with wing-back Kerkez heading against the crossbar and Kluivert failing to beat Onana at close range, although Fernandes struck the bar with a superb attempt in response.

With the Cherries unable to extend their advantage, Fernandes equalised again midway through the second half – this time stepping up to convert a penalty awarded after Kobbie Mainoo’s shot deflected on to the unfortunate Adam Smith.

United, whose hopes of securing European football were further dented, dropped one place to seventh following Newcastle United’s 4-0 win over Tottenham earlier on Saturday.

Bournemouth, who remain 12th, thought they had been awarded a late penalty but, following a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) review, Kambwala’s foul on Christie was determined to have taken place outside the box.

Semenyo’s stellar performance throughout the month propelled Bournemouth forward, with the 24-year-old securing three crucial goals before the international break.

Displaying his prowess on the field, Semenyo emerged as a vital component for the Cherries during their impressive run in March.

City started slowly but took the lead midway through the first half when Phil Foden steered home after Erling Haaland’s shot was saved by Neto.

In difficult conditions with the onset of Storm Isha, an even first half gave way to another show of Liverpool’s attacking strength as two goals apiece from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota sealed a deserved three points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men hold that lead over Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa – although Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions have a game in hand.

Both sides struggled to create anything worthwhile in the first half but Nunez broke the deadlock four minutes after the break with a composed right-foot finish from Jota’s pass.

Nunez was then involved in the build-up to Liverpool’s second with 20 minutes left, battling to win possession for Cody Gakpo to release Jota, who beat Neto at his near post.

Jota got his second when he initially miscontrolled, but then recovered his poise to send a low shot beyond the Bournemouth keeper.

Uruguay forward Nunez added the fourth in stoppage-time, diverting in Joe Gomez’s cross.

Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest during Saturday’s game, with both teams taken off as he received treatment on the field. He was responsive as he was carried off on a stretcher.

The game stood at 1-1 when it was abandoned in the 59th minute.

A Premier League statement said it will be rescheduled for later in the season.

Following his collapse, Lockyer was taken to hospital, where he has had tests and scans.

The Premier League statement added: “The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.

“The league would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone.

“We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC.”

Luton said on Sunday that Lockyer remained in hospital , but said they would not provide a “running commentary” on the health of their defender.

Both sets of players were taken off midway through the second half as Lockyer received medical treatment.

After several minutes, he was taken off on a stretcher, applauded by all four sides of the ground.

Reports from the ground later said the 29-year-old defender was “alert and responsive”.

Lockyer collapsed during the play-off final win against Coventry in May before being taken to hospital.

He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June.

After confirmation, the game was abandoned, both the Luton and Bournemouth players came back out on to the pitch to applaud the supporters.

The Premier League said in a statement: “The match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident.

“Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today’s match.”

The latest setback is as bad as any experienced during Ten Hag’s tenure, with skipper Bruno Fernandes calling the performance “not acceptable”.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, described United’s start as “no good” and “poor”.

Once they had fallen behind to Dominic Solanke’s fifth-minute effort, they never seriously threatened an equaliser.

Coming seven days after the performance at Newcastle that was roundly condemned, it raised serious questions over the assurances Ten Hag delivered around the midweek win over Chelsea that United were moving forward.

Asked if his current squad could achieve the consistency required of an elite team, Ten Hag admitted the answer was negative.

“As a squad, we are not good enough to be consistent,” he said.

“I’m annoyed, disappointed, definitely. I expected something different. The way we started was no good. It was poor.”

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live that United were “being schooled in their own backyard” and that the scoreline “flattered” them.

Match of the Day pundit and former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas said: “You haven’t got a clue what the future looks like. Whatever is in Ten Hag’s mind, I can’t see it on the football pitch. I don’t think we’re going to see it.”

United have now lost 11 games in all competitions this season, the same as they have won. This was their seventh defeat in 16 matches in the league. They have gone behind in half of those 16 games and conceded nine goals in the first half-hour of matches at Old Trafford in all competitions.

And, while Bournemouth are unquestionably improving and have taken 13 points from five games, the fact that trips to Liverpool and West Ham, followed by a Boxing Day encounter with Aston Villa, loom after Tuesday’s Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich – a match United must win to stand any chance of reaching the last 16 – cannot fill any supporter with optimism for what lies ahead.

Sutton added: “You strip everything back – the performances haven’t been there. They’ve been a fortunate Manchester United this season. They’ve beaten sides in the bottom half of the table.”

Ten Hag says he has to take responsibility for United’s performances.

The same is also true of his team selections and, to that end, the decision to start with Anthony Martial backfired.

As was the case at Newcastle, Martial made virtually no impact and was replaced by Rasmus Hojlund to huge cheers only 11 minutes into the second half.

It barely seems plausible the Frenchman, who has scored twice in 19 appearances this season, is worthy of a starting spot. But Ten Hag defended him anyway.

“Two weeks ago against Everton, he played a very good game. He absolutely has the competences and abilities to play, so I don’t think it’s fair after a performance like this to go to one player,” he said. “We as a group failed altogether.”

In fairness to Martial, he was not on his own in disappointing.

Fernandes, who was booked and is now suspended for the Anfield trip, made no headway against the Bournemouth midfield. Luke Shaw’s lack of physicality was exposed by the visitors in the second half and Sofyan Amrabat was outmuscled in midfield.

It was a throwback to the day, almost 10 years ago exactly, when then United boss David Moyes claimed his side needed to improve in a number of areas “passing, creating chances and defending”.

Fernandes shrugged off the boos that accompanied the final whistle, saying it was a “normal” reaction after such a result.

The same could also be said of the thousands of empty red seats that shone out of the gloom on a day, weather-wise, equally as abysmal as the performance of the home side.

The stadium will be full and vibrant on Tuesday night, with the outcome of this contest parked as United try to save their Champions League skins.

But elimination with bring more pressure. The Liverpool trip has worrying echoes of the same game five years ago, after which Jose Mourinho was sacked. United have one more point now than they had then.

“As a group, we have to improve. We have to get tougher. We have to be ready for the game,” said Ten Hag.

“In this league, if you are not playing on the highest levels you get killed.”

Three days after victory against Chelsea breathed new life into a campaign teetering on the brink of crisis, Erik ten Hag’s side were stunned by a Bournemouth side who recorded their first win at Old Trafford.

The Cherries led through Dominic Solanke’s early goal.

Andoni Iraola’s men were fully deserving of their lead, and headers from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi in the space of five second-half minutes completed what must go down as one of the most famous triumphs in Bournemouth’s history.

It could have been even worse for United, but substitute Dango Ouattara had a fourth for Bournemouth ruled out in stoppage time by the video assistant referee for handball.

Coming only three days before United’s Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich – which they must win to stand any chance of reaching the last 16 – it was about as bad a day as possible for Ten Hag, a surprising winner of the Premier League’s latest manager of the month prize.

His side have now suffered seven defeats in 16 league games. In all competitions they have lost as many matches – 11 – as they have won. They have been beaten 3-0 three times at home.

Virtually no-one wearing a red shirt emerged with any credit, with Ten Hag’s surprising decision to start Antony Martial backfiring.

Semenyo broke the deadlock for the host just ten minutes into the highly competitive clash after connecting with Ryan Christie’s pass.

However, Jamaica international, Leon Bailey scored to draw Aston Villa level ten minutes later.

The Ghana international was subbed off in the 71^st minute and was replaced by Luis Sinisterra.

The former Bristol City attacker is enjoying an amazing season with the Premier League outfit, scoring four goals and providing an assist in 11 games.

After 11 appearances for Bournemouth, Semenyo has scored three goals with an assist to his credit.

The 23-year-old will hope to impress again when they travel to play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

Bernardo Silva twice profited from inspired passes from the Belgium international, who is vying with Jack Grealish for City’s left-sided attacking berth. Phil Foden was also on target before Nathan Ake’s 88th-minute diving header.

Doku, a £55.4m summer signing from Rennes, was too much for Andoni Iraola’s side, scoring the first of three goals in seven minutes after Bournemouth had kept their opponents at bay for half an hour.

He jinked his way to the byeline to create space for the cut-back that allowed Bernardo to covert his second goal of the season, before providing the inspired through ball that offered the brilliant Portuguese the opportunity to chip Andrei Radu.

Doku’s shot deflected in off Manuel Akanji for the third and he also provided the superb through ball for Foden to score City’s fourth 19 minutes into the second half.

Foden had been introduced at the break for Haaland, who seemed to be struggling with a leg muscle problem as the opening period drew to a close.

Luis Sinisterra pulled one back for Bournemouth, who will drop into the relegation places if Luton avoid defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Uruguayan striker cut in from the left and picked his spot perfectly for the 70th-minute finish, curling the ball with plenty of pace into the top right corner beyond a despairing Ionut Radu.

Cody Gakpo had put Liverpool in front in the first half when he pounced to poke home from close range after Harvey Elliott’s volley was parried into his path.

But Bournemouth levelled through Justin Kluivert as he netted his first goal for the club since joining from Roma in the summer. He emerged unmarked at the far post to head home an Alex Scott corner in the 64th minute.

The hosts committed everything to attack during the final 15 minutes. David Brooks and Hamed Traore chanced their arm, but neither could muster an attempt as the Cherries failed to level for a second time.

It is the third time Liverpool have made it to the last eight of the competition in the last five seasons.

Charlie Taylor gave Burnley an early lead, scoring just eleven minutes into the match.

However, Antoine Semenyo equalized for AFC Bournemouth in the 22nd minute, bringing the scores level.

Philip Billing sealed the victory for AFC Bournemouth with a second goal in the 76th minute.

This marks Antoine Semenyo’s second goal of the season for AFC Bournemouth.

His consistent performances are vital, as Ghana relies on him in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros in the first two games in Group I.

Semenyo is also expected to make Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for next year in Ivory Coast.

Havertz, who has struggled since arriving from Chelsea in the summer, converted the second of two Gunners penalties to ensure their third consecutive away victory.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring, heading in the rebound from Gabriel Jesus’ effort and Martin Odegaard scored a penalty to give Mikel Arteta’s side a comfortable lead at the break.

The Gunners’ dominance continued into the second half, and after Havertz scored, Ben White headed home from Odegaard’s free-kick in added time to add gloss to a comprehensive victory for Arsenal.

Bournemouth drop into the bottom three, with no wins from their first seven league matches under new manager Andoni Iraola.

The Cherries are yet to win in the league under Andoni Iraola, while Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have one win to show from their five league games.

Chelsea had the better chances with Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling hitting the woodwork and Levi Colwill having a goal disallowed for offside.

New Blues signing Cole Palmer had a chance to win the game late on but shot straight at Neto.

Bournemouth had opportunities to win too with Dominic Solanke forcing a Robert Sanchez save and heading wide.

The Cherries, who had already had a goal disallowed because Jaidon Anthony was offside, scored inside three minutes when the Reds gave away possession and Antoine Semenyo fired into the bottom corner.

Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually got into their stride in a frantic first half and scored twice in an eight-minute period.

Luis Diaz got the equaliser when he collected Diogo Jota’s low cross, flicked the ball up, spun and volleyed home.

Summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai then went to ground after a challenge at the corner of the box by Joe Rothwell and Mohamed Salah converted the rebound after his penalty was parried by Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

Argentina World Cup winner Mac Allister, signed in a £35m deal from Brighton, was shown a straight red card midway through the second half when he caught the foot of Ryan Christie.

But the 10 men of Liverpool scored a third when Szoboszlai’s low shot was pushed out by Neto and Jota scored from close range.

Sean Dyche’s side knew victory would guarantee survival irrespective of events elsewhere, but for a time they were in the drop zone as they struggled to break down Bournemouth and Leicester City were beating West Ham United.

Everton finally ended the deadlock after 57 minutes as Abdoulaye Doucoure sparked an explosion of elation and relief inside an emotionally-charged Goodison Park with a powerful right-foot finish from 20 yards that gave Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers no chance of saving it.

As the tension mounted, Everton survived a couple of Bournemouth near misses and an agonising 10 minutes of stoppage time before they could confirm they would be extending their 69-year stay in English football’s top tier.

The Red Devils need just one point from their final two games against Chelsea and Fulham to secure Champions League football at Old Trafford next season.

In a game lacking in clear-cut opportunities a piece of magic from Casemiro proved the difference at the Vitality Stadium.

The Brazilian midfielder picked up a beautifully weighted pass from Christian Eriksen and turned away from Marcos Senesi to acrobatically hammer home.

Without their top goal scorer this season, Marcus Rashford, who was absent from the squad with illness and missed the opportunity to equal his best tally of 17 goals in a single campaign, United struggled to mount regular goal threats.

But Casemiro’s ninth-minute strike, combined with Liverpool’s draw against Aston Villa, were enough to move United one point away from guaranteeing a top-four spot.

The game was evenly poised heading into the final 10 minutes until substitutes Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling and Felix made the difference to give Lampard his first win since returning to Chelsea in place of Graham Potter.

The result means The Blues are now mathematically safe from relegation in 11th, while Bournemouth remain 14th and at risk.

Both sides had chances in a brilliant game, with Bournemouth starting the brighter before going behind to the simplest of goals. N’Golo Kante picked out Conor Gallagher with a pinpoint delivery from the right and the Englishman steered a superb glancing header in at the far post in the ninth minute.

The hosts responded well to going behind and showed why they’re one of the league’s in-form teams. Gary O’Neil’s side are well drilled at the back and capable of attacking with all the style of a team fighting for top honours, rather than feeding on scraps at the bottom.

Matias Vina’s leveller wouldn’t have been out of place in any fixture. The Uruguayan put the finishing touches on a stunning one-touch team move, curling an effort from the edge of the area past Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the far corner.

The second half was just as lively as the first, but it was The Blues that found themselves in the early ascendancy. Noni Madueke, in particular, proved a constant thorn in Bournemouth’s side and enjoyed the better of a game-long duel with Vina.

The 21-year-old is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years when he sorts out his end product.

But for all Chelsea’s bark, there was little bite, and they were fortunate not to concede a penalty when Thiago Silva brought down Dominic Solanke in the 67th minute. O’Neil said in the build-up that sides like Bournemouth don’t get awarded penalties, and, on the evidence, he might have a point as VAR waved away the hosts’ claims.

The hosts were then punished late on when Badiashile and Felix both produced brilliant first-time finishes to snatch all three points late on at the Vitality Stadium.

Speaking to the media after scoring against Leeds United over the weekend, Semenyo said he has planned for his celebration for a very long time.

The Ghanaian forward, who has struggled for game time, revealed that he had been practicing a celebration with his best friend Jaidon Anthony in the team when he scores his first goal.

“We’ve been planning for weeks for a celebration, and we’ve finally been on the pitch together to do it. It’s even better,” Semenyo said.

The 23-year-old signed for Bournemouth in the January transfer window from Bristol City after an impressive run in the English Championship. He has since found game time hard to come by, starting only two games.

The Reds were brought back down to earth after last week’s 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United as the Cherries, who started the weekend bottom, did their survival chances a power of good.

Liverpool were punished for poor defending when the unmarked Philip Billing struck from eight yards out for his sixth Premier League goal of the season after fine work by Dango Ouattara.

Virgil van Dijk had a header cleared off the line at 0-0 and substitute Diogo Jota was denied by Neto’s fine save before Liverpool won a penalty after the Portugal forward’s header was handled by Adam Smith.

But Salah, who became Liverpool’s all-time top Premier League scorer with 129 goals last week, blazed the penalty wide much to the delight of Bournemouth’s fans.

While the win catapulted Bournemouth to 16th before the 15:00 GMT kick-offs, Jurgen Klopp’s side missed the chance to go fourth for the first time this season after a lethargic display.

Having scored seven times in their last match, the Reds failed to register a goal against the worst defence in the Premier League.

Liverpool have made strides in recent weeks but this was a step backwards for a team who face a mountainous task to stay in the Champions League when they go to European champions Real Madrid on Wednesday, looking to claw back a 5-2 deficit.

Their patchy away form – just three wins in 13 league games on the road – continues to hold them back.

With next week’s home game with Fulham postponed due to the London club’s involvement in the FA Cup followed by the first international break of 2023, this was Liverpool’s last game on the Premier League stage for three weeks.

They face back-to-back away games at Manchester City (1 April) and Chelsea (4 April) when they return, followed by a home match with leaders Arsenal (9 April).

Klopp will hope his side have washed this defeat out of their system by then.

The Gunners, who sit top of the league log, beat Bournemouth 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium.

The visitors scored first through Philip Billings in the 1st minute. Billings’s goal stunned the Gunners and sent the travelling fans into wild celebrations.

Arsenal continued to attack Bournemouth playing in their half for long periods.

There were two penalty incidents in the 18th minute and the 34th minute but VAR did not see any foul in the incidents.

After halftime, Bournemouth extended their lead to 2-0 thanks to a strike from Marcos Senesi.

In the 62nd minute Arsenal pulled one back through Thomas Partey after receiving a pass from Emile Smith Rowe.

However, Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo was taken off in the 64th minute by Bournemouth coach Gary O’Neil.

Benjamin White scored the equalizer for Arsenal in the 70th minute before Reiss Nelson scored a thunderbolt goal for the home side in added time to win all three points.

Arsenal’s Premier League lead is restored to five points, after they had seemed certain to cede ground to Manchester City, winners over Newcastle in the early kick-off.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone after threatening a major upset – and beginning at top speed.

Having twice surrendered leads to draw with Nottingham Forest domestically and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, City never looked in danger of doing so again once Julian Alvarez poked them ahead.

Erling Haaland maintained his goal-a-game ratio since his summer arrival by tucking home a close-range second for his 27th top-flight goal of the season to end a relatively lean spell of one in six games.

Phil Foden punished Philip Billing’s wayward pass to add City’s third before half-time, and Bournemouth’s misery was completed after the break when Chris Mepham deflected an Alvarez volley into his own net.

After the table-topping Gunners won at Leicester earlier on Saturday, City’s victory reduced Arsenal’s cushion back to two points, although the leaders still enjoy the luxury of a game in hand.

Battling Bournemouth deservedly claimed a late consolation via Jefferson Lerma but were outclassed overall, and defeat leaves them 19th after three other teams in the bottom six picked up points.

The 23-year-old joins the Cherries on a four-and-half-year deal in deal worth 10 million pounds.

Bournemouth, however, has the option to extend his deal for a further year.

Semenyo made 125 appearances for Bristol since signing for them in 2017. He scored 21 goals and provided 21 assists during his time with the Robins.

The Ghanaian has been one of Bristol’s best players in the 2022/23 season after netting six goals and providing three assists. Only Nahki Wells has netted more goals than Semenyo in the Championship this season.

Semenyo’s hot form includes scoring three goals since the turn of the year while also netting in the FA Cup against Swansea City.

The forward was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He featured in Ghana’s 2-3 loss to Portugal as the Black Stars crashed out of the tournament at the group stage.

The Daily Echo understands the club saw two offers knocked back by the Robins for the 23-year-old last week.

Since, Semenyo featured for Bristol City and scored in a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

That took his goals tally this campaign to nine from 32 appearances for club and country, which includes two outings for Ghana at the World Cup.

The Athletic have reported Cherries have returned with a third bid for Semenyo, while talkSPORT claim a fee of an initial £9million has now been agreed.

But no deal is yet understood to be close for Semenyo, with a move to London-based Crystal Palace said to be his preferred option, should they match Cherries’ bid.

Semenyo, who can play centrally or out wide, came through the academy at Bristol City and has also spent loan spells with Bath City, Newport County and Sunderland.

Cherries have made one signing so far this month in Lorient winger Dango Ouattara.

They are also closing in on deals for Nicolas Jackson, Matias Vina and Darren Randolph and have also been linked to Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The England international tapped into an empty net after a Bruno Fernandes pass to score in a three successive Old Trafford league games for the first time.

His goal rounded off the scoring after Casemiro latched onto a Christian Eriksen free-kick with a beautifully cushioned volley to put Erik ten Hag’s side ahead half way through the first half.

They doubled their lead four minutes into the second period as Luke Shaw, playing in his more accustomed left-back role again, swept home an Alejandro Garnacho cut-back to complete a beautiful free-flowing move.

United had started slowly, having a lot of possession in their defensive third but, once they found the opener, a seventh successive home win in all competitions never felt in doubt.

They stay fourth, but join third-placed Newcastle on 35 points, and, perhaps most importantly, have opened up a five-point cushion on fifth-placed Tottenham.

Bournemouth, who failed to have a shot on target until the 57th minute, stay 15th, two points clear of the relegation places.

The Ghana striker broke the deadlock for the Eagles before Eberechi Eze doubled the tally as the London-based side recorded a 2-0 win.

After the game, Vieira lauded his attack spearheaded by Ayew for their committed display.

“We have some really nice players with a really good attitude, working hard in training. But to win football matches, you need to be a little more competitive and hopefully, that will be something we will develop quickly,” he said.

“Today, when you look at the front four, Wilfried, you look at Jordan, Michael and Ebs, everybody was committed and that is why we had a very good performance,” he added.

Ayew was scoring his first Premier League goal of the season after playing as the main attacker. The 31-year-old has mostly played on the flanks this season.

Crystal Palace, who sit 11th on the Premier League with 22 points will next face under-pressure Tottenham Hotspurs at Selhurst Park.

Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze both converted from corners at a rain-soaked Vitality Stadium as Palace put aside criticism from manager Patrick Vieira after Monday’s 3-0 loss to Fulham and posted a third win in their last five league fixtures.

Ayew had Palace ahead after 19 minutes as he rose unchallenged to glance his header wide of goalkeeper Mark Travers with Bournemouth guilty of ball watching as the corner came across.

It was the first goal of the season for the Ghana international as Palace created eight chances to none for Bournemouth in the opening 20 minutes.

Eze’s effort in the 36th minute was just as simple as a corner was cut back to him on the edge of the penalty area and, with no defender anywhere near him, he hammered the ball home to double the visitors’ lead.

The result kept Palace in 11th spot as they advanced to 22 points while Bournemouth slipped a place to 15th.

It was a third defeat for Bournemouth since returning from the World Cup break, during which time they appointed caretaker coach Gary O’Neil on a permanent basis and completed the sale of the club to a consortium called Black Knight Football Club, led by American businessman Bill Foley and actor Michael B Jordan.

Both were given a warm welcome by supporters before kickoff but will have quickly realised they need to spend to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window or prepare for a battle against relegation in the coming months.

O’Neil was on the bench despite having struggled with illness on the eve of the match after a virus swept through the Bournemouth camp this week.

But if he was still feeling grim, his players would have exacerbated his condition as they turned in a lethargic first half performance.

It was better after the break for the home side but they only threatened to score when Dominic Solanke forced a sharp save from Palace’s goalkeeper Vicente Guaita in the 53rd minute.

Palace could have extended the scoreline in the final 15 minutes with chances for both Wilfried Zaha and substitute Odsonne Edouard.

Having failed to score in three consecutive matches prior to the break for the World Cup it took Chelsea less than 16 minutes to get up and running with Kai Havertz sliding in an effort at the back post from Raheem Sterling’s low cross.

With the hosts dominant, Mason Mount celebrated his 150th appearance for Chelsea in style, curling a superb effort into the bottom right corner of the Bournemouth net from the edge of the penalty area.

It drew a nod of satisfaction from manager Graham Potter, who will have been delighted by the slick performance his side delivered, particularly during the first half.

Christian Pulisic saw an effort ruled out after Havertz was judged to have fouled Adam Smith, while the German also spurned a second-half opportunity to extend Chelsea’s lead.

The result sees Chelsea move up to eighth in the table, six points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham with Bournemouth remaining in 14th.

The only negative in Potter’s and Chelsea’s evening came with the earlier-than-planned withdrawal of Reece James, seven minutes into the second period, on his return from the knee injury that ruled him out of the England squad for Qatar.

The 23-year-old lay on the turf with his hands on his head before receiving treatment and eventually walking off unaided.

While the Cherries improved after the break, and substitute Ryan Christie forced home goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga into a good save, they rarely looked capable of applying any late pressure to the hosts.

The 41-year-old joined the club in June 2021 and led them to promotion from the Championship as runners-up in his first season in charge.

They won their first game back in the top flight but lost their next three, culminating with the defeat at Anfield.

Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin said the decision to sack Parker was made “in order to for us to keep progressing as a team and a club as a whole”.

He added: “It is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably.

“We must also show belief in and respect for one another. That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now.

“Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”

Gary O’Neil will take interim charge of the team and will be assisted by Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick.
