“We don’t have to bother our head over this because he was the general secretary with Koku Anyidoho as his deputy and the likes of Kofi Portuphy and Kofi Adams as party executives but they lost miserably [to the NPP].

“With my experience as a politician, I don’t think NPP should waste our head and think about the re-election of Asiedu Nketiah as a general secretary. It is not going to add anything to the fortunes of the NDC,” he noted.

Nana Obiri who was speaking on Starr FM as monitored by adomonline.com emphasised that the NDC, even though the largest opposition party in Ghana, isn’t a threat to the NPP unless the NPP’s own members become complacent and decide not to be each other’s keeper by engaging in pull-him-down games.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah retained his general secretary position at the 9th National delegate’s congress of the NDC after he beat his contender Koku Anyidoho with about 5,000 votes to emerge the winner.

Hot audio : Is Akua Donkor of sound mind? – Obiri Boahen asks https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-is-akua-donkor-of-sound-mind-obiri-boahen-asks/ Wed, 27 Jun 2018 09:59:27 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1177331

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has descended heavily on flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) Akua Donkor for suing President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Nana Obiri Boahen is convinced the failed presidential candidate needs a psychological examination.

Madam Akua Donkor in her writ President Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr Bawumia to step aside in the wake of the Number 12 undercover documentary by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

In a suit dated 20 June 2018 filed at the Supreme Court, which names Attorney General and Minister for Justice Gloria Akuffo as the defendant, Madam Akua Donkor is seeking an order from the Supreme Court directing the defendant to advise the President of the Republic of Ghana and his Vice-President to step aside from the highest seat of the land since their names were mentioned in the documentary.

Madam Akua Donkor stated in the writ that: “It is perfectly true that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Vice-President are involved or have something to do with all the allegations levelled against Kwesi Nyantakyi with regard to bribing before contracts are awarded to investors”.

She was of the view that authorities have relied on investigations by Anas to sanction officials in the past and the latest is no exception and should be used to sanction all officials named in the documentary.

But Nana Obiri Boahen said Akua Donkor’s action is borne out of ignorance.

“Is Akua Donkor of sound mind at all? How can you be making such useless comments against our President and his Vice? Does she know what it takes to even go to court? She should give us a break because her utterances are just useless” he said.

According to him, Akua Donkor is embarking on a fruitless venture and demonstrating her lack of knowledge of the legal process.

“Who is a comedian in Ghana than Akua Donkor. In fact, she is a joker. Sometimes I wonder how an old lady like Akua Donkor will just waste our time on senseless issues like what she is doing now. She should give us a break and respect herself instead of dragging our President to the court” he stated.

HOT AUDIO: Obiri Boahen tells his story, claims blackmail https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-obiri-boahen-tells-story-claims-blackmail/ Wed, 28 Feb 2018 09:12:22 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=968881 Deputy New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen, says he was blackmailed by the NDC member, popularly known as “Kwaku Skirt’ following damning revelations of a leaked audio conversation between him and the NDC activist.
According to him, he was tricked to echo his sentiments and ill feelings about the party in a private chat with an opposition NDC member because he needed vital information from him on former President Mahama and his government.

HOT AUDIO: NPP has abandoned me but I won’t talk-Obiri Boahen cries out
“Yes, the tape making rounds is my voice but I must say that I manufactured the words [on the leaked tape] because I needed some vital information from their party. Little did I know that I was being recorded”, Obiri-Boahen told Okay FM in an interview.
Nana Obiri Boahen in that recorded conversation told Kwaku Skirt he was being unfairly treated as an official of the governing party, while his colleagues are supposedly grabbing and making economic gains from the party’s incumbency.
Photo: Kwaku Skirt

“Till date I don’t even have an office at the party’s headquarters. To be frank, i have been using my own private car, and the party has not given me any official car for my use as Deputy General Secretary. I buy my own fuel. And even on official trips abroad, I’ll be left to my fate. When I recently went to Germany, it was an NPP Member who bought ticket for me. I went to Spain, Dortmund it was an individual that processed my trip. I do virtually everything, and I don’t remember the last time I received a monthly salary from the party. Even when we went to Cape Coast recently on an official assignment, as a member of the resolution committee, they gave me only GHC 3000, and received a paltry sum of GHC 2000 for fuel. So in all I was given just GHC 5000, while the Flag Staff House had given headquarters an amount of about GHC 50 billion. I’m only watching them; what is happening now is called  “grabbing grabbing” that is what they are doing. I have not even been contacted by any Minister for any contract or whatsoever. I have been handling late J.B Danquah Adu’s case from day one, and I have been using my own resources for court,  and even give tips for Journalists. Nobody cares about that case. I have been following up the case and I can tell you i have an impending trip abroad and I even had to rescheduled my flight to make it to court on 21st, March in J.B’s case. I’ll have to pay the penalty for rescheduling that flight, and I’ll have to bear that cost alone.”

But reacting to the audio-tape conversation circulating in the media, Nana Obiri Boahen said he tactfully opened up in that conversation in order to divulge classified information from Kwaku Skirt.
He pleaded with the public to disregard the controversial details of their conversation.
“What I said in that conversation is not true reflection of what is going on in my party. But sometimes as mature politician, if you want to squeeze information out of people you need to exaggerate something, because when you show disinterest in what he’s saying, he will not give you enough information. But lying and giving him false information, he was able to give me detailed information. In fact the information I had from him has been very beneficial to me as an individual and to my party as well. What he said about the NDC concerning the plans and strategies of the NDC party, I have it all and I won’t discuss on the airwaves; I’m too mature as a politician.”

Mr. Boahen who claimed his integrity and popularity in his party will not be plummeted despite the supposed ‘reckless’ comment, indicated that the NDC activist threatened to leak the tape after he rejected his demands.
“After he had told me he had recorded me, he threatened to release the audio if I refused to give him his 5,000 Dollars he demanded.
He therefore believes that it is his refusal to pay the money that pushed Skirt to leak the tape.
“Portraying himself as a member of my party and pulling out an NPP card to deceive me, that is fraudulent” he said.
He however did not state whether he will take legal action against the NDC activist or not.

Ndebugri jealous of Amidu – Obiri Boahen https://www.adomonline.com/ndebugri-jealous-amidu-obiri-boahen/ Mon, 15 Jan 2018 10:39:09 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=837091 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen has said that private legal practitioner, John Ndebugri’s warning that Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, could resign is borne out of jealousy.
Mr. John Ndebugri has warned that the Mr. Martin Amidu could resign if in the course of carrying out his duties, his mandate is limited.
He argued that, while giving the Special Prosecutor a free hand in investigations, the law establishing the position also gives the Attorney General some authority over the cases pursued by the Office.
“Now, there is a position which says the Special Prosecutor is accountable to the Board. The Special Prosecutor is simply a Managing Director and I do not think that the Managing Director can overrule the decisions of the Board. What is going to be problematic is that another sub section says that notwithstanding that accountability provision, the Special Prosecutor shall have full control over investigations so it creates a conflict situation and my position is that Martin Amidu as I know him, will insist that the law has made him independent and that he is in full control.
“The Board is likely to insist that they are the Board and they call the final shots and so if it happens like that [I know the person I am talking about, one case it happens, another case it happens, I am not sure it will even get to a third case] Martin Amidu will definitely walk out of the place like he walked out of President Mills,” said the lawyer.
Mr. Obiri Boahen in responding to Mr. Ndebugri’s comments, however believes that the President’s decision has scored him a lot of marks in fighting corruption and further underscores his determination to do so.
“President Akufo Addo knows what he is doing and that is why he has appointed Martin Amidu to take up such a sensitive position. His comment that Martin Amidu could resign is too early and needs to be condemned”, he said.
“Ghanaians are happy about the appointment and so I think Ndebugri is just jealous of Martin Amidu” he said on Accra based Okay FM.
According to him, the newly appointed Special Prosecutor will not do any political party’s bidding and therefore should be allowed to work without any interference.

Hot Audio: Come for tutorials – Obiri Boahen to Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-come-tutorials-obiri-boahen-asiedu-nketia/ Thu, 26 Oct 2017 12:58:04 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=611091 The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen says he is ready to school General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia on governance.

He said comments by Mr Asiedu Nketia following the leaked report does not augur well for an opposition party.

Nana Obiri Boahen believes as a leader and a General Secretary of a party, it is important that he acts swiftly in the interest of the party instead of making baseless accusations.

“Asiedu Nketia is the General Secretary of an opposition party and the best I expect from a man like him is to accept all the blames and know how to resolve the issue instead of playing to the gallery. You are a leader and needs to be active in dealing with issues and not fight the NPP over the report” he said on Accra based Okay fm.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen’s comments follows allegation by Asiedu Nketia claiming that the alleged leakage of the report is the handiwork of the NPP.

In Mr Nketia’s observation, the NPP and the Akufo-Addo government resort to the alleged Botchwey report any time they are hit by a crisis.

“I have observed that it looks as if the NPP government wants to use some fake Botchwey report to divert the attention of Ghanaians from the hardships that they are going through so it’s like they are always using something purporting to be coming from Botchwey’s report divert attention from any major issue that appears to be indicting the government.

“The day there was news about the $2.5bn scandal and everybody was debating then we came back to something allegedly coming from the Botchwey report, then we moved on to Maj. Mahama’s death and everybody was discussing it then, another thing purportedly coming from Botchwey’s report, then we came to the contaminated fuel matter, when it was being discussed then another thing coming from the Botchwey report. “…

“The damning report of the IMF on the economy, they know it will attract national debate so something must come out there to divert people’s attention so if they choose that that is the way to go, let them know that no amount of diversion can take the people’s mind from the suffering they are going through” he said.

But Lawyer Obiri Boahen urged Asiedu Nketia to rather act timely and professionally in the supreme interest of the party by getting issues raised in the report resolved immediately through appropriate means and stop accusing the NPP.

He called on the NDC scribe to as a matter of urgency look for him for proper training instead of engaging in what he described as petty politics.

“Aseidu Nketia needs tutorials on how to be a general secretary and manage serious issues because he is not acting like a leader but a child who refuse to consult his mother when he has a problem”.

Nana Addo's commitment to fight corruption fake – Kwaku Boahen https://www.adomonline.com/nana-addos-commitment-fight-corruption-fake-kwaku-boahen/ Thu, 31 Aug 2017 07:07:57 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=450261 A Deputy Communication Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen has slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for failing to fight corruption within his own corridors.
Speaking on Frontline hosted by Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM he said, the president promised to fight corruption when voted into power but the same cannot be said after he was given the opportunity.
He said, personally I will confidently say, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not have the political will to fight corruption. He has shown no commitment in the fight against corruption. He has not shown any example in his resolve to uproot corruption and if care is not taken, Ghanaians would be shocked at what will happen should the NPP chalk two years in office.”
The NPP he posited did not come for the ordinary Ghanaian but to fill their own pockets and serve their own selfish interest. In the view of Kwaku Boahen, five or more appointees of the president should be behind bars or sacked over the allegation of corruption leveled against them.
He made reference to the BOST saga and the failure of the president to sack the MD.
”President Nana Addo has failed to protect the public purse and block all the loopholes he complained about during the campaign period and so where is his commitment to fight corruption? He has failed woefully and soon the Ghanaian voter will regret voting for the NPP.
‘’Already Ghanaians have regretted voting for the NPP but more people are going to be disappointed at the failure of the president to deal with cases of corruption within his government.’’
At the recent National Delegates Conference President Nana Akufo-Addo said he has given the security agencies a directive to investigate any official within his administration who will be accused of corruption.
The president said: “We are told that there is corruption in the Akufo-Addo government. Let me reassure you of one thing. Any allegation about corruption against any official member of my government will be investigated by the law enforcement agencies. And those who made that allegation better be prepared to support it when they are making these allegations of corruption because nobody is going to get away with it.”
“I am not going to preside over a government that will support corruption in our country. Every allegation of corruption that is made against any of my officials, I have given instructions to the law enforcement agencies that they should investigate each and every one of them,” he added.

Hot Audio: Confused NDC party now on life support – Obiri Boahen https://www.adomonline.com/hot-audio-confused-ndc-party-now-life-support-obiri-boahen/ Wed, 05 Jul 2017 14:29:31 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=270721 Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has fired salvos at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accusing it of suffering from a strange disease and now on a life support system.
To him, the NDC is trying hard to make the Nana Addo-led government unpopular, but that he assured will not materialize.
Nana Obiri Boahen reacting to the outburst by the minority NDC after the Managing Director of Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company (BOST), Alfred Obeng was implicated in the controversial sale of five million litres of off-spec fuel, said whilst in opposition the NDC is creating the impression that it has all the answers to all the problems facing the country.
“Kofi Adams and his NDC cohorts should give us a break and allow the laws of the country to work. The man has been cleared by the BNI and what I expect from the NDC is to shut up because they even benefited a lot from BOST when in power.
“Even when the party was active, we never feared them, how much more when the party is now sick and on life support system? The only option left for them is to cause mayhem and complain over useless issues because the party will die very soon,” he said on Accra-based Neat FM.
Managing Director of BOST, Mr Obeng Boateng has been exonerated by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the National security in the case involving the sale of contaminated fuel to some companies in the country.
Mr. Obeng Boateng was cited to have overseen activities leading to the sale of five million litres of contaminated fuel to two petroleum firms, Movenpiina and Zup Oil.
Investigations by the two state security agencies however indicate that he has been cleared of any wrongdoing and has no direct relationship with Movenpiina one of the two firms in question.
Minority in Parliament however have on the back of these revelations, accused the BNI of attempting to “cover up” the issue with their findings. According to them, the exoneration is a mere effort by the BNI to hide from the public, the actual details of the issue.
Minority Leader in Parliament; Haruna Iddrisu, addressing pressmen in Parliament Tuesday July 4 indicated that they will pursue the issue to the core till the ‘truth’ emerges.
“There is a very bizarre and uncharacteristic developments in our country today that we are being told that the BNI is acting in a manner that we don’t only smell, but we can sense a cover up in respect of the matter of the selling of contaminated oil by BOST which matter bothers on fraud, corruption and abuse of office. We are aware that the Ministry of Energy has set up a committee to investigate the matter.”
However lawyer Obiri Boahen advised the minority NDC to shut up and allow the MD to work efficiently since government has not circumvented the truth in the issue.

You have no right to tell us to fulfil our promises – Obiri Boahen tells Amissah Arthur https://www.adomonline.com/no-right-tell-us-fulfil-promises-obiri-boahen-tells-amissah-arthur/ Tue, 13 Jun 2017 16:44:09 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=178441 Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahene has stated that former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amisah-Arthur is not in the right position to question the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government on the “170 promises” it made to Ghanaians during the 2016 general elections.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur had challenged the Nana Addo-led government to fulfill all the 170 promises the party made to Ghanaians ahead of the 2016 elections.

“I have been told that they have made 170 promises. They have to ensure that all those 170 promises are fulfilled so the people of Ghana can also benefit from the work that they came to do,” Mr Amissah-Arthur said while addressing party supporters at the National Democratic Congress’ 25th-anniversary rally at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

However, the president reiterated his resolve to ensure that the promises came to fruition because “the fulfillment of these pledges will put our country onto the path of progress and prosperity”.

Speaking in Berlin to Ghanaians resident in Germany on Sunday, June 11, Mr. Akufo-Addo said: “This evening, I interacted with the Ghanaian community resident in Germany, where I, once again, reiterated my commitment to fulfilling the pledges I made to the Ghanaian people in the run-up to the 2016 elections.”

But reacting to the issue, lawyer Obiri Boahene said the former vice president has no moral right to question them on campaign promises.

He cited the many unfulfilled promises of the opposition NDC to like building 50 day Senior High Schools to buttress his point.

Nana Obiri Boahen indicated that that the Akufo Addo-led administration will go the extra mile to fulfill all promises made during the 2016 campaign period.

“Amissah-Arthur has no right to tell us to fulfill all those promises. We the NPP are very keen on fulfilling our promises and we will deliver as promised. The electorates voted for us based on the promises so we will fulfill that before 2020. We don’t need Amissah-Arthur to tell us that,” he said on Accra based Neat fm.

He rather urged the former Vice President to advice and bring unity to his party.

Nana Obiri Boahene was optimistic that his government has proficient appointees who can make the promises a reality.

Asiedu Nketia, Koku Anyidoho do not make sense in politics – Obiri Boahen https://www.adomonline.com/asiedu-nketia-koku-anyidoho-not-make-sense-politics-obiri-boahen/ Sat, 03 Jun 2017 14:54:12 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=150371 Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen has belittled the intelligence and scope of reasoning of the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his deputy.

He believes Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Koku Anyidoho no longer make sense in their political discourse, a situation that may compel him to quit politics and focus on concentrate on his profession as a lawyer.

On Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, he questioned if the two will ever make sense in their utterances stating he sometimes get frustrated by the way and manner they communicate on issues of national concern.

“Sometimes the behavior of Asiedu Nketia and Koku Anyidoho as Secretary and Deputy respectively make me want to quit politics and focus on my life as lawyer. Listen to them and you will understand they do not make sense in politics at all,” the outspoken Deputy Secretary said.

“Have they finished talking about the impunity in their party and that of the recent one of their Member of Parliament Kwabena Mintah Akando before accusing the President?” he asked.

“I am telling Asiedu Nketia to grow from his dirty and childish politics. He must act like his age. …he has been behaving like this from opposition to government and now back to opposition. …Enough is enough. …Tell him.”

On an attempt by the NDC to politicize the death of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, he said the NPP is more focused and will not engage themselves in responding to “frustrating driven press conferences” of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the recent press conference held and addressed by the NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia accusing President Akufo-Addo of presiding under impunity is “laughable, mischievous and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”
