Designed as a key pre-season tournament, the Top 4 is expected to offer participating teams a competitive platform to fine-tune preparations ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.

GHALCA is yet to finalise the tournament format but has confirmed that consultations are ongoing to adopt a structure that will ensure a worthy winner emerges.

It also gives coaches the opportunity to assess their squads, experiment with tactics, and build momentum heading into a demanding season.

The dominant win sparked wild celebrations across Bibiani and etched the club’s name in Ghanaian football history.

Their triumph also extends the Western Region’s dominance in recent seasons—making it the third straight title for clubs from the area, following wins by Medeama SC in 2022/23 and FC Samartex 1996 in 2023/24.

Saturday’s clash with regional rivals Medeama SC is expected to be a fitting end to a landmark season.

Referee denied Asante Kotoko win against GoldStars — Sarfo Duku https://www.adomonline.com/referee-denied-asante-kotoko-win-against-goldstars-sarfo-duku/ Mon, 26 May 2025 16:24:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2538800 Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has expressed disappointment over what he described as poor officiating during their goalless draw against Bibiani GoldStars on Matchday 32 of the Ghana Premier League.

The match, played at DUN’s Park on Sunday, ended 0-0 despite a late effort from Kotoko that saw the ball find the net deep into stoppage time. However, the goal was disallowed for offside, a decision that sparked discontent within the Kotoko camp.

Speaking after the game, Duku did not hold back in his criticism of referee Robert Musey and his assistants.

“I was disappointed with the way our boys were frustrated and denied the three points,” Duku said.

“Clearly, we dominated the game and created all the necessary chances. However, our dangerous moves were repeatedly cut short by strange decisions from the match officials. I’m very disappointed with most of the referees’ decisions,” he added.

With just two games left in the 2024/25 Premier League season, Kotoko remain behind table leaders Nations FC and must rely on strong performances in their remaining matches.

The Porcupine Warriors will aim to bounce back when they host Medeama SC at Baba Yara Stadium on Matchday 33, keeping their title hopes alive.

“It was a fantastic game, every team wanted to win, we all created a lot of chances, and we couldn’t put it into the net. Nobody knows what is going to happen, unless we calculate and add the two games,” he said.

“Even if we win, then we can’t go anywhere, then it’s over for me. For now, I will never say it’s over,” he added.

Bibiani GoldStars CEO calls Premier League financiers ‘magicians’ https://www.adomonline.com/bibiani-goldstars-ceo-calls-premier-league-financiers-magicians/ Fri, 16 May 2025 07:47:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2535479 Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Gold Stars, Akwasi Adu, has praised the individuals funding Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs, calling them “magicians” for keeping the competition alive despite ongoing sponsorship challenges.

The 2024/25 GPL season is set to conclude without a headline sponsor, placing significant financial strain on the league’s 18 clubs.

Despite this, Adu applauded the relentless efforts of club managers and financiers who continue to ensure matches are played week in and week out.

“I should say this on behalf of all 18 Premier League clubs: the managers and financiers are magicians. Travelling across all regional boundaries without a sponsor is very difficult. We are all hoping to resolve this situation as quickly as possible,” Adu told Citi Sports.

Adu also revealed that Bibiani Gold Stars are actively pursuing sponsorship opportunities ahead of the next season.

The club, enjoying a strong campaign, currently sits atop the league table with 54 points.

“The competitive nature of this year’s title race, despite the challenges, should attract potential sponsors. We hope this will be a turning point for local football.”

Meanwhile, Bibiani Gold Stars—currently second in the standings—will aim to reclaim top spot when they host Asante Kotoko next weekend at DUN’s Park.

Despite the loss, GoldStars still sit atop the league with 53 points, holding a five-point advantage with just five matches remaining in the season.

Head coach Frimpong Manso, however, is undeterred and maintains his optimism for the title race.

“We have four games left, three of them at home. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re motivated to push harder,” he said after the game.

Bibiani GoldStars target FA Cup semifinals spot https://www.adomonline.com/bibiani-goldstars-target-fa-cup-semifinals-spot/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 12:22:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2479573 Bibiani GoldStars head coach, Frimpong Manso has expressed his ambition to guide the team to the semifinals of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.

GoldStars secured their place in the Round of 32 after an impressive 2-0 victory against FC Samartex in the Round of 64.

Sharing his thoughts on the team’s goals, Manso acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the competition, particularly when facing underdog opponents.

“It is our hope to reach the semifinals, but it will be difficult,” Manso admitted.

He highlighted the unique challenges of the FA Cup, where lower-league teams often rise to the occasion with nothing to lose.

“The FA Cup can be difficult sometimes because any team can cause an upset. Lower league teams come into games believing they can cause an upset, so we need to be focused,” he added.

Bibiani GoldStars are enjoying a stellar campaign in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, where they currently lead the league table.

He added, “We’ll keep working hard, as we’ve done since day one. For me, I’m not thinking about the title but the next game.”

The Miners have collected 13 out of a possible 15 points at home from five matches held at DUN’s Park, establishing a strong home record. With a total of 19 points after nine games, they currently lead the league standings.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Frimpong Manso attributed the team’s stellar home performance to the passionate support of the fans.

“[The home record] is a very good thing; to be able to win at home, and for now, we will want to continue that streak,” he said. “We have the fans behind us, so I think we will do our best.”
