According to earlier reports by Adom News, the officers were apprehended after allegedly attempting to install a new chief at Awutu Kwashie Abbey in the Awutu Senya West District—a community that already has a gazetted chief, Nai Kwashie Abbey VIII, popularly known as Nai Atopi.

Awutu Kwashie Abbey, a predominantly farming community, has been embroiled in a long-standing chieftaincy dispute that has caused tension and division among local factions in recent years.

The situation escalated on Thursday night when angry Asafo members from Kasoa Ofaakor besieged the Bawjiase District Police Command, demanding the immediate release of the detained officers.

Armed youth confronted police officers, insisting that the soldiers should not remain in custody, creating chaos at the station.

Police reinforcements and additional military personnel were deployed to prevent the confrontation from spiraling out of control.

The arrival of a military pickup with registration number 52 GA 62 intensified the standoff until the Military Police intervened and took custody of the detained officers.

Speaking to Adom News, the Leader of the Kasoa Ofaakor Asafo Group, Asafo Supi Nipa-Nka, warned that community members would not tolerate any attempt by military officers to use their positions or uniforms to intimidate civilians.

He, however, appealed for calm and urged both traditional leaders and security agencies to collaborate to maintain peace and stability in the area.

Tension at Bawjiase police station as Asafo members clash with soldiers https://www.adomonline.com/tension-at-bawjiase-police-station-as-asafo-members-clash-with-soldiers/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 20:24:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594456 Tension has erupted at the Bawjiase District Police Command in the Central Region after a group of angry Asafo members from Kasoa Ofaakor stormed the premises.

The group is demanding the release of four soldiers and two National Security officers who were arrested for allegedly attempting to install a new chief at Awutu Quashi Abbey in the Awutu Senya West District.

Reports indicate that the arrests followed the officers’ attempt to carry out the installation despite the community already having a recognised chief.

The situation has sparked outrage among the Asafo members, who have gathered at the police station calling for the immediate release of the detained officers.

Eyewitnesses describe a tense atmosphere at the police command, with the Asafo group refusing to leave and police insisting that due process must be followed.

A military pickup truck with registration number 52 GA 62 has reportedly arrived at the scene with additional soldiers, allegedly to secure the release of their colleagues.

Speaking to Adom News, the leader of the Kasoa Ofaakor Asafo group, Asafo Supi Nipa-Nka, cautioned military officers against involvement in land and chieftaincy matters.

“The military should stay away from issues of land and traditional authority; that is not their work,” he said.

Police presence at the station has been reinforced to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
