Wontumi FM Journalist granted bail after two weeks in custody https://www.adomonline.com/wontumi-fm-journalist-granted-bail-after-two-weeks-in-custody/ Wed, 27 Aug 2025 11:06:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2571660 A journalist with Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, Emmanuel Kwakye Asare, has been granted bail after spending two weeks in police custody.

Asare was arrested on August 12, 2025, and charged with offensive conduct over the publication of alleged false news intended to cause fear and panic. He is accused of claiming on his programme that President John Dramani Mahama had prior knowledge of the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

The court granted him bail set at GH₵100,000 with two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants. His legal team is currently working to meet the bail conditions.

The prosecution opposed the bail request, arguing that investigations were still ongoing. However, presiding judge Samuel Bright Acquah ruled that there was no sufficient reason to deny bail, referencing a past case in which a young man was remanded for insulting then-President Akufo-Addo.

Asare is scheduled to reappear before the court on September 1, 2025, as proceedings continue.

EOCO responds to criticism over ‘high’ bail terms [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/eoco-responds-to-criticism-over-high-bail-terms-listen/ Mon, 25 Aug 2025 13:05:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2570840 Legal officer at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Paa Bruce Sam, has explained the agency’s approach to bail and addressed concerns from the public over what some consider to be “high” bail conditions.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, he said EOCO has been taken to court by some individuals challenging bail terms, and the matter is currently before the Supreme Court for a decision on appropriate conditions.

“The case is in court, and the court will decide,” Sam said.

He further explained that under the Criminal Procedure Act, 1960 (Act 30), there are three types of bail. EOCO typically grants what is called police enquiry bail.

“In Act 30, it is stated that we consider the nature of the offence and the person involved when granting bail. So, for EOCO, we look at the crime committed and give bail according to the seriousness of the offence,” he said.

EOCO ON BAIL CONDITIONS

His comments come after some members of the public criticized EOCO for setting stringent bail conditions and not being flexible for individuals they summon.

Examples cited include Chairman Wontumi, dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, and other public figures.

Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, was recently released from EOCO custody after nearly two days in detention.

He was freed following a variation of his bail conditions, providing a temporary respite in the high-profile case surrounding his acquisition of a luxury vehicle.

He is also required to surrender his passport to the police until further orders from the court.

Sir Obama Pokuase was also granted bail of GH¢50,000 with three sureties, two of whom must be salaried workers. At least one surety must be a government employee earning not less than GH¢3,000 monthly.

High Court denies Agradaa’s bail pending appeal https://www.adomonline.com/high-court-denies-agradaas-bail-pending-appeal/ Tue, 15 Jul 2025 15:20:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2555641

The Amasaman High Court has denied bail to self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, as she seeks to overturn her recent conviction and 15-year prison sentence.

Agradaa was convicted and sentenced on July 3, 2025, on three counts: one for charlatanic advertisement and two counts of defrauding by false pretenses.

She was fined 25 penalty units (or 30 days in default) for the first offence and handed 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labor each for the remaining two counts. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Following her conviction, lawyers for the televangelist filed a petition for appeal and a motion for bail pending the appeal hearing.

The application assured the court that Agradaa was not a flight risk, would comply with all bail conditions, and had sureties capable of meeting any security requirements.

However, the judge declined to grant bail and directed the court registrar to produce records of proceedings within 14 days to aid the appeal process.

According to her legal counsel, led by Bernard Kofi Asamoah, their next focus is to pursue the appeal.

Agradaa’s lawyers maintain that her conviction was unjust and fraught with legal irregularities, including what they described as “bias exhibited by the trial judge.”

They argued that the burden of proof was improperly shifted from the prosecution to the accused, claiming Agradaa was unfairly required to prove her innocence.

They also contended that the judgment did not consider mitigating factors such as her cooperation during the trial or her plea for leniency, despite references to Ghana’s sentencing guidelines.

This latest development marks another legal setback for Agradaa, who has maintained that her conviction was based on flawed interpretations and selective use of evidence.

Her legal team remains hopeful that the appeal process will deliver a favorable outcome.

In the meantime, she continues to serve her sentence at the Nsawam Female Prison.

Court grants fake doctor GH¢100k bail https://www.adomonline.com/court-grants-fake-doctor-gh%c2%a2100k-bail/ Mon, 30 Jun 2025 06:55:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2549517 An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GHC100,000 to Frederick Papa Kow-Assifuah, the fake doctor who was arrested at Kasoa Crispo in the Central Region. The bail comes with two sureties, to be justified with landed property. The land title certificates are to be deposited with the Court’s Registry.

Kow-Assifuah, a 30-year-old trader, has denied wilfully and falsely using the title “Dr,” professing to practice medicine without being registered, and defrauding six individuals.

He is expected to reappear before the court on June 25, 2025.

Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu said the complainants—Madam Genevieve Appau Tete, Madam Sandra Boateng, and Madam Sandra Ewuradwoa Arhin—reported the matter after suspecting fraud.

According to Chief Inspector Alorwu, the accused resided at Kasoa Crispo City and came under investigation after the National Police Intelligence Directorate received information that he was posing as a medical doctor online.

He reportedly lured women into intimate relationships, after which he collected money from them under the pretext of securing travel documents.

On June 6, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m., the accused was arrested at his hideout in Kasoa Crispo City while planning to meet another victim. He was found dressed in a white lab coat, with stethoscopes around his neck.

Following his arrest, he led police to his residence, where a search uncovered a pair of scissors, three drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, one plaster, and five bottles of canine distemper adenovirus type two parainfluenza parvovirus vaccines.

Police also retrieved a Ghanaian passport bearing the name of Madam Tete and a cash amount of GHC8,500.

During interrogation, Kow-Assifuah admitted to collecting GHC8,500, GHC25,000, and GHC2,000 from Mesdames Tete, Boateng, and Arhin, respectively, under the pretext of securing visas to Europe and America. He failed to deliver.

Further investigations revealed that he collected GHC18,500 from Mr. Bernard Ameyaw under the same pretext of securing a visa to France, and an additional GHC1,500 from Elizabeth Dadzie for a similar promise. None of the promises materialized.

He was subsequently charged and arraigned.

Fraud Case: P-Square’s former manager finally granted bail after 2 months https://www.adomonline.com/fraud-case-p-squares-former-manager-finally-granted-bail-after-2-months/ Thu, 24 Apr 2025 13:52:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2528286 Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former manager of the legendary music duo P-Square, has finally been released from custody after spending more than two months in the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The news was met with a wave of celebration, especially from his younger brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy), who took to Instagram to mark the occasion.

Rudeboy wrote, “Jude is finally out after 2 months+… all their efforts to frustrate his bail have finally collapsed. Welcome home brother @judeengees. And happy birthday.”

While the message was celebratory, its tone hinted at possible tension within the Okoye family, particularly toward Peter Okoye, Jude’s estranged twin brother.

Jude’s release comes after weeks of legal back-and-forth following his arraignment by the EFCC on serious money laundering charges involving $1 million, ₦1.38 billion, and €34,537.59.

A Lagos court, presided over by Justice Alexander Owoeye, had earlier ruled that Jude be granted bail on the condition that he provides two sureties worth ₦100 million each. The court also restricted him from traveling outside Nigeria.

Though he was briefly re-arrested shortly after being granted bail, sources say all conditions have now been met, and he has officially returned to his family.

Jude Okoye’s release marks a significant turn in a high-profile case that has gripped both the entertainment and legal communities in recent months.

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with two sureties.

The relieving judge, Mr Isaac Addo, ordered the prosecution to comply with the rules of disclosures.

The matter has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.

Lawal has been charged with unlawful entry and stealing electrical cables worth GH¢1,035,500.

The accused has denied the charge.

Earlier, prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agustin Kingsley Oppong told the Court that the complainants in the case, Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang, were safety officer and electrical engineer respectively, at the new Bank of Ghana Building, which was under construction.

Prosecution said on February 16, 2025, the complainant detected that someone had broken into the Energy Farm at the site and stolen quantities of 1c x 240 and 1c x 300 square of copper cables, all valued at GH¢1,035,500.

The prosecution told the court that it necessitated the review of the Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera, where the accused and two others were seen stealing the copper cables from the Energy Farm. Bundles of electrical cables were kept at the place.

According to the prosecutor, the complainants nabbed the accused and handed him over to the police.

During investigations, it was revealed that the accused and two others, at large, gained access to the Energy Farm using a scaffold where they cut the copper cables with a sharp object and carried them away.

Also, investigations proved that the cables were sold to someone at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle by the accused, whose share was GH¢2,000.

Lawal was unable to lead the police to arrest his accomplices and the alleged “dishonest receiver.”

J.B. Danquah Case: Lawyers for ‘Sexy Don Don’ to apply for bail on March 25 https://www.adomonline.com/j-b-danquah-case-lawyers-for-sexy-don-don-to-apply-for-bail-on-march-25/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 15:04:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2513153

Lawyers for Daniel Asiedu, the prime suspect in the murder of former Abuakwa North MP J.B. Danquah-Adu, have informed an Accra High Court that they intend to file a bail application on March 25 for their client’s release.

Asiedu, also known as ‘Sexy Don Don,’ who was acquitted by a seven-member jury in December last year, is set to undergo a retrial following a court ruling.

His legal team argues that the circumstances surrounding his acquittal warrant further legal scrutiny.

Speaking to JoyNews, the lawyers, who appeared in court with the accused, also revealed plans to file a separate application at the Supreme Court seeking an interpretation of the jury’s acquittal.

They maintain that a retrial should not proceed without clarity on the implications of the previous jury’s decision.

Background

J.B. Danquah-Adu, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, was stabbed to death in his home in East Legon, Accra, in February 2016.

Following investigations, Daniel Asiedu and an alleged accomplice, Vincent Bosso, were arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Asiedu initially pleaded guilty, claiming he acted alone, but later retracted his confession, leading to years of legal proceedings. His trial was marked by multiple adjournments and controversies, including claims of coercion and conflicting testimonies.

In December 2024, a seven-member jury acquitted Asiedu, citing insufficient evidence, but the Attorney General’s office pushed for a retrial, arguing that procedural lapses affected the outcome. The court agreed, ordering a fresh trial, a decision that Asiedu’s lawyers are now challenging.

With the bail application set for March 25 and the Supreme Court petition pending, the case continues to attract significant public and legal interest as Ghana awaits a final resolution in one of the country’s most high-profile murder trials.

Radiologist granted GHC500k bail as police await report on gender https://www.adomonline.com/radiologist-granted-ghc500k-bail-as-police-await-report-on-gender/ Thu, 02 Jan 2025 07:57:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2489327 The Police say they are waiting for the report on the gender of an accused person in a fraud case.

Meanwhile, Christabel Suphar Sarkodie Tuffour, the accused, has been admitted to bail in the sum of GHC500,000 with three sureties, one to be justified.

The GNA had gathered that the Police still needed the report of the accused to prosecute her other cases.

This is because the accused in some cases had posed as a man and in some cases posed as a woman.

Due to the uncertainty of the accused’s gender, the court made an order to the Police to send her to the hospital for her gender to be ascertained. She had declined a physical examination to be conducted by the Police.

Christabel was charged with five counts of defrauding by false pretences.

She pleaded not guilty.

Christabel is alleged to have collected a total of 42,889 pounds, 8,500 Euros, $5,000 and GHC230,000 from 15 individuals, promising to assist them in obtaining visas to Germany and Canada.

Police say Christabel, a radiologist, claimed she handed over the money to one Ebenezer but he denied receiving any funds.

The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Ramatu Asumah earlier on revealed that the complainants were young individuals seeking to travel abroad for better opportunities.

Christabel, while studying in Europe, falsely claimed to have worked with the German Immigration Service in Frankfurt.

She and her accomplice, Ebenezer, who had no experience in travel and tourism, deceived the complainants into believing that they could help them secure visas.

The prosecution said Ebenezer introduced the complainant to Christabel, further solidifying the illusion of legitimacy.

The court heard that Christabel provided her bank account details to some of the victims, while others paid her in person during meetings in Osu and Lancaster Hotel.

The accused arranged a fake marriage to Kwasi Gyimah at La Nkwantang District Court, claiming it would help secure a spousal visa upon her return to Germany.

Through these tactics, Christabel successfully obtained large sums of money from 15 complainants.

After her arrest, she admitted in her caution statement to handing over the funds to Ebenezer although he denied receiving them.

The judge warned that bail would be granted if the prosecution failed to commence the trial promptly.

This ruling follows previous unsuccessful attempts to secure bail from the Akropong Circuit Court.

Nana Yaa’s bail was set at GHS 100,000 with sureties, marking an important moment in the ongoing case that has garnered widespread public attention.

The Adum High Court’s decision also extended to a second accused individual in the case, who was granted bail under the same terms.

A precautionary measure that was taken due to the large and potentially hostile crowd that had gathered outside the courthouse.

Palace guard in court over illegal possession of police, military accoutrements https://www.adomonline.com/palace-guard-in-court-over-illegal-possession-of-police-military-accoutrements/ Thu, 30 May 2024 01:00:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2402060 The Accra Circuit Court has granted GH¢10,000 bail with a surety to a palace guard, accused of illegally possessing a police uniform and other property.

Julius Aryee, also known as Julius Nketia Boateng, denied the offence, and he would reappear before court on June 19.

Police Inspector Edna Aninga told the court presided over by Mr Kwabena Koduah Obiri-Yeboah that the National Police Intelligence Directorate was the complainant.

It heard that the accused, Aryee, was a 23-year-old palace guard, living in Agbogbloshie, Old Fadama.

Insp Aninga said the police received information that a young man was parading himself as a policeman at Agbogbloshie and its enclave.

The prosecution said the police arrested Aryee, and when he was interrogated, he confessed that he was not a policeman, but he sometimes dressed in police or military uniforms for fun.

Insp Aninga said a search conducted in his room at Agbogbloshie uncovered three black berets, two army caps, three army ‘T’ shirts, three army badges, a dummy pistol and a T-shirt with police badge and Accra Regional Police inscriptions at the back of the shirt.

The court heard that the accused willingly granted police access to his mobile phone, and inspection conducted on his WhatsApp revealed pictures of him fully dressed in police and military uniforms.

Insp Aninga said investigation on the accused person’s Tiktok handle named “SMART.KVNG,” showed an uploaded pictures of supply himself dressed in police and military uniforms on separate occasions.

The prosecution said the accused also confirmed police information that he was sometimes found with a side arm.

Insp Aninga said that both the dummy side arm and all the uniforms belonged to his two brothers, who he claimed were policeman and soldier, stationed in Takoradi.

The court heard that the police during investigation went to Mpatasie, near Agona Nkwanta, in the Western Region, where the accused had been employed as a guard in the queen mother’s palace.

Insp Aninga said a search in a room allocated to the accused, at the palace, uncovered a black long sleeve police uniform with the name “Nketiah Boateng” and Ghana Police Service crest inscribed on both chest with a police lanyard hanged on the wall in the room.

The prosecution said accused confessed to the police that the uniform belong to him.

Insp Aninga said investigation conducted indicated that the accused did not have any brother in the police or army.

The court heard that investigation revealed that the accused is known in Agbogbloshie and Kwame Nkrumah Circle as a policeman stationed at Agbogbloshie for the past two years.

4 suspects granted bail over ‘missing’ EC laptops https://www.adomonline.com/4-suspects-granted-bail-over-missing-ec-laptops/ Mon, 06 May 2024 13:24:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2390537 A Dansoman Circuit court in Accra has granted a GH¢20,000 bail bond to all four persons accused of stealing laptops belonging to the Electoral Commission.

The accused are also expected to provide two sureties and are to report to the Police once every two weeks.

Philip Tetteh, a 26-year-old labourer, Benjamin Fienyi, a security guard and Clifford Yeboah, were in the dock Monday morning with Joseph Blackson Adumadze, a 37-year-old database Administrator at the Electoral Commission who was already on bail.

The four are accused of stealing some laptops belonging to the EC.

The missing equipment has generated controversy as legislators of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) warn the missing equipment could potentially compromise the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The group has thus called on the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana police service to take up the matter and investigate same.

Addressing the court on Monday, lead Prosecutor, Christopher Wonder said the police have yet to arrive at the value of the missing Dell laptops containing bio-data and important information and prayed for a few days to enable them to finalise their investigations.

He also told the court that his team is engaging one Mr Kofi Kyei Badu, Deputy Commissioner in charge of procurement at the EC who has promised to furnish them with the value of the stolen laptops.

The Prosecution had failed to furnish the accused with any disclosures as agreed at the last adjourned date.

As a result, when he took his turn, the lawyer for the accused told the court that the Prosecution was trying to blow the case out of proportion, arguing that fairness and justice be made to prevail for “the trial to be conducted within a reasonable time.”

According to him, the third accused has already demonstrated good character even on bail by presenting himself to the court; guaranteeing the same character for the three other accused.

All four accused persons have been granted conditional bail and are to appear at the Dansoman Circuit Court on June 5, 2024.

Zoe Outreach Embassy pastor, wife granted GH¢46m bail https://www.adomonline.com/zoe-outreach-embassy-pastor-wife-granted-gh%c2%a246m-bail/ Thu, 04 Aug 2022 19:20:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2145689 The Founder and General Overseer of the Zoe Outreach Embassy Church, Pastor Kelvin Elson Godson aka Kelvin Kwasi Kobiri and his wife, Sabina Elson Godson, have been arraigned before an Accra High Court for allegedly defrauding 875 persons to the tune of over GH¢23 million under the pretext of among others, securing them plots of land.

The two, have been slapped with 41 counts of conspiracy, defrauding by false pretence, and money laundering at the court presided over by Justice Mary Yanzuah.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding judge admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of GH¢23 million each with three sureties each one to be justified with documents of landed property.

As part of the bail conditions, one of the sureties is to deposit his/her passport with the registrar of the court.

Again, all the sureties are to deposit recognised national identification cards with registrar of the court.

The two are to report to the Economic Crime Unit once every month until the final determination of the case.

The case has been adjourned to September 5, 2022, for mention.

The facts presented by Assistant State Attorney, Dorm Esi Fiadzoe, are that the 875 complainants are mostly congregants of Pastor Godson’s church in Accra and Tarkwa and its environs in the Western Region.

Both Pastor Godson and his wife are the owners of EL Real Estate Limited.

Pastor Godson, according to the prosecution, is also the owner of Fromfrom Capital Limited, a company he bought from the original owners and registered in the names of his employees, who are holding it in trust for him.

The prosecutor said at the beginning of 2018, Pastor Godson presented to members of his church and the general public that he was operating a scheme called ‘Lease buy back’ where he would sell plots of land and other landed property to them, invest the monies in his investment company and later buy same back at higher prices.

The prosecutor also alleged that according to Pastor Godson and his wife, the monies realised from the sale of the land were invested in the international money market through Tikowrie Capital Limited, Fine Fort Capital Limited, Top FX and Edge FX.

Again, the prosecutor said in a letter dated April 18, 2019, the National Security Coordinator requested the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police to conduct investigations into the activities of the EL Real Estate Limited in relation to payments of dividends to their customers who had made investments with the company.

Investigations

As part of the agreement, after the maturity date, they would pay the principal with interest rates between 100 to 480 per cent but failed to do so and after several demands from the complainants, the accused persons have up to date not paid them.

During the period that the complainants were paying monies into the accounts of the companies of the accused persons, the prosecution said the first accused person deposited and withdrew a huge sum of money from Fine Fort Capital and bought Fromfrom Capital Limited from its owners by August 31, 2018.

Again, the prosecutor disclosed that investigations revealed that EL Real Estate Limited, a company registered with the core mandate of selling lands and other landed property had rather ventured into providing financial and investment services without licence from the authorised entity which is the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Fine Fort Capital Limited is also not licensed to engage in the business of investment/fund management.

Tikowire Capital Limited and Fromfrom Capital Limited are however licensed to do business of investment/fund management.

“In all, about 875 persons invested a total of GH¢23,773,950 with the aforementioned companies as follows – (784) persons invested a total of GH¢ 19,288,950 with EL Real Estates Limited, (79) persons invested a total of GH¢4,208,500 with Tikowrie Capital Limited while (12) invested a total of GH¢275,500 with Fromfrom Capital Limited,” the prosecutor told the court.

General Corporal Samson Kweku Darfour has pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful discharge of weapon and causing harm.

The case has been adjourned to March 23, 2022.

At Thursday’s hearing, the prosecution amended the facts presented at the first hearing.

The prosecution indicated that the accused was the leader of the team which was detailed to monitor crime along the Tamale stadium forest road.

While on duty, they saw someone driving an unregistered Toyota Camry.

Upon seeing the police team, the driver made a U-turn and sped off.

“The accused, seeing that, jumped into the police vehicle and gave the victim a hot chase to the Lamashegu chief’s palace, where he shot into the car through the backdoor. The bullet then hit and lodged in the right hip of the occupant of the vehicle.”

A bystander was also a victim of the shooting and got injured during a clash between the youth and the police.

The victim was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and was later confirmed dead.

The lawyer further pleaded with the court to grant the defendant bail while he prepared strong facts to defend his client.

According to the Service’s Acting Public Affairs Director, DSP Alexander Obeng, the artiste is still in their custody with two others assisting with investigations.

This comes a day after he was arrested following his alleged fabrication of a story purporting that he had been shot by an unknown assailant on Monday night.

“The investigators are ensuring that the right procedures are followed so that nobody’s right is violated,” he said on Wednesday, October 20.

Over the past few hours, social media has been awash with speculations that the singer who was arrested for fabricating a story that he had been shot by unknown assailants had been let go.

These assertions have mostly been accompanied by amateur footage of some industry colleagues walking on the corridors of the Police station.

But speaking on The Pulse on the JoyNews channel, the Police indicated that the self-styled dancehall king, the pastor, and two others are still going through the necessary processes in custody.

DSP Obeng explained that they are expected to be charged and processed for court in line with the security service’s modalities.

He also revealed evidence available to them suggests that the musician’s charges may be pivoted around “publication of false news, usurpation of a public officer…and attempts to cause fear and panic.”

The prophecy

Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, Shatta Wale explained that he undertook the action on the back of a prophecy by Bishop Stephen Akwasi, who predicted his death.

In a viral video, the founder and leader of New Life Kingdom Chapel International noted that Shatta Wale would lose his life on October 18, similar to that of South African reggae artiste, Lucky Dube, who was shot on October 18, 2007.

Shatta Wale stated that he felt his life was under threat, for which reason he vowed that until security agencies step up to address such threats, his whereabouts will remain unknown.

The pastor in question, Bishop Stephen Akwasi, popularly known as Jesus Ahuofe, was picked up by Police on Tuesday, October 19.

Meanwhile, the Police Service has advised citizens against publishing false information capable of disturbing the country’s peace.

Sources on campus say, the Headmistress of the School, Evelyne Nabiah, mentioned the names of the affected students before asking the police to take them away.

“Today we were in the hall writing our Mathematics Paper 1 when the Headmistress came and gave the announcement that right after the paper, those students should go out. So, immediately after the paper, she came out with the list and started mentioning the names of those students. After that, she ordered the Police to come for them without telling us why and how.

“But the truth remains that, those students were caught killing fowls for sacrifices and were left for the disciplinary committee. And so, once students are not allowed to cook while in school or rear fowls, and they (students) bought the fowls with their money, what they were using the fowls for was for their own good,” the source added.

Nana Agradaa granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/nana-agradaa-granted-bail/ Thu, 22 Apr 2021 14:19:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1950995 Popular fetish priestess Nana Agradaa has been granted self-recognizance GHS 500K bail by the court following her arrest and remand yesterday, April 1.

Nana Agradaa was caged and two of her media stations; ‘Thunder TV’ and ‘Ice 1 TV’ closed down at Kasoa for operating without authorization.

The self-styled spiritualist was granted bail Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), Thunder TV had its authorization revoked on March 24, 2020, and 1 TV is said to have expired on February 26.

Her tv channels are among the 47 the National Communications Authority has listed for closure.

Nana Agradaa has been using her platform to exchange insults against Rev Obofour, a self-styled pastor who is the founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC).

The two have been engaged in public verbal exchanges using unprintable words since the recent Kasoa ritual murder story.

Reverend Kwaku Agyei Antwi releases videos in the mornings with Nana Agradaa’s responses appearing on social media by the close of day.

Who is Nana Agradaa?

The self-styled Accra-based fetish priestess has been a reference point for numerous fraudulent activities in the name of spiritualism.

On many occasions, her operations have been reported by some bold folk who have fallen prey. Many others have stayed mute after their encounter yielded no effect.

However, it was alleged that Nana Agradaa had some law enforcement agencies such as the police on her payroll, hence her unabated impunity on open advertorials in money doubling rituals.

Money ritual crime

The sudden thirst for fast money by some young people in the country has resulted in the commitment of a diverse crime.

This includes the latest gruesome murder of an innocent 10-year-old, Ishmael Abdallah.

He was killed in broad daylight by two teenagers at the request of a female spiritualist.

This generated a public fury on the constant societal pressures by supposed spiritualists using open and unregulated channels to communicate their ‘simple powers’ of doubling cash or making one earn money effortlessly.

The suspects have been arraigned and remanded pending trial.

Presidential aspirant reacts to Akuapem Poloo’s bail https://www.adomonline.com/presidential-aspirant-reacts-to-akuapem-poloos-bail/ Wed, 21 Apr 2021 11:05:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1950482 Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo, has reacted to controversial actress Akuapem Poloo’s GHS 80,000 bail.

The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court, Wednesday morning, granted bail with two sureties to convicted actress born Rosemond Brown.

In addition to the bail she is to report to the case investigator every two weeks and hand over her passport to the registrar of the court.

This, Kofi Akpaloo has expressed disappointment over, saying the convict should have been made to serve her full sentence.

Kofi Akpaloo

Not only will Poloo’s sentencing serve as a deterrent to others, but it would also have disciplined and reformed her, Mr Akpaloo remarked.

The five-day sentence execution, coupled with the GHS 80,000 bail is a clear indication of a weak judicial system, according to the presidential aspirant.

“This is one of the reasons why the laws ae not taken seriously. She has been released, but they should tighten the law system. For someone to upload such videos, photos on social media, serious punishment to be enforced for discipline in the country, [sic]” he commented on an Accra-based radio station.

Klagon chief, six others granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/klagon-chief-six-others-granted-bail/ Wed, 17 Mar 2021 17:04:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1934841 The Chief of Klagon, Nii Bortey Klan I, and six others, accused of causing the death of one Ibrahim Mohammed Abass over a parcel of land, have been admitted to bail by a Tema High Court.

Nii Bortey Klan I and five of the accused persons: Tahiru Mamudu; Haruna Yakubu; Latif Moro; Kwaku Anane, aka Kobo; and Richard Annang Kotey, have been admitted to bail in the sum of GHC100,000 with two sureties.

However, Hamidu Fuseini, aka Sankara, alleged to have kidnapped the deceased was admitted to bail in the sum of GHC200,000 with sureties to be justified.

They are facing a charge of conspiracy to murder and murder.

What started as a tussle over the ownership of the land at Klagon, according to the prosecutor, ended in the kidnapping of Mr Abass, who was tortured and eventually killed and dumped in the bush at Klagon.

READ ON:

The Kaneshie District Court, presided by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye, did not take their pleas and remanded them into custody.

Lawyers of the accused, however, applied for bail at a Tema High Court and they were granted.

Three others: Abdul Baasi Mohammed, aka Awudu Buju; Yahaya Mohammed, aka Olu; and Osmanu Ibrahim are reportedly on the run.

Prosecuting, Inspector Richard Amoah earlier told the court that Nii Klan engaged some of the accused persons as land guards, while Fuseini was his right-hand man.

Kotey was a movie actor and a confidant of Nii Klan.

Inspector Amoah said having been given the authority by Nii Klan to guard the lands at Klagon, the accused persons and those at large, sometime in 2020, were instructed by the chief to prevent Abass from developing portions of the land at the Ramsar Site.

Abass was previously a confidant and instrumental in the installation of the chief.

However, following a protracted dispute over the parcel of land, Abass defected to the rival faction in the general land litigation in the area.

Prosecution said Abass defied the directive not to develop the land in contention, resulting in a physical confrontation with the accused persons, who destroyed the basic structures Abass had constructed amidst threats on his life.

Additionally, Nii Klan initiated a civil action against Abass and one Gabriel Akotia.

The prosecution said the chief also conspired with Anane, Kotey, and Mohammed to kill Abass.

The three and their accomplices allegedly met in the house of Nii Klan in the morning of November 15, 2020, at Klagon to execute their plan.

Abass was later attacked by Fuseini and four others while on his motorbike to his private residence.

Abass was kidnapped amidst gunshots and put into Fuseini’s vehicle and driven to an unknown destination.

However, the son of Abass, who chanced upon the attack on his father, informed his mother and a report was made to the Klagon District Police Command.

Inspector Amoah said the District Commander then called Fuseini on his cell phone to produce Abass at the station, but he ignored him.

With the connivance of his accomplices, according to the prosecutor, Fuseini murdered Abass and dumped his body in a bush in Klagon.

The body of Abass was, subsequently, conveyed to the Police Hospital Mortuary where a post-mortem examination, performed by Dr Stephen Annan and Dr Osei Owusu-Afriyie, gave the preliminary cause of death as “Asphyxiation, strangulation and suspected homicide.”

Meanwhile, the prosecutor said investigations had revealed that after Abass was kidnapped, he was driven to Nii Klan’s house and later taken to the Klagon Ramsar Site where he was tortured to death.

He said there was evidence of phone conversation between Nii Klan and his accomplices prior to, during and after the crime.

The accused persons are expected to reappear before the Kaneshie District Court on April 26.

The suspects were before the Tamale High Court for their trial in the murder which happened in July 2020.

The prosecution, led by state Attorney Francis Asobayire, Gertrude Gesuah Johnson Assistant State Attorney, and Francis Gyimah says the Kafaba case has not seen a conclusion as many thought.

Attorney Francis Asobayire in an interview with Adom News says an application for bail has been made by counsel for the accused at the last adjourned date in February 2021.

The application prayed the court for bail on the grounds that the 1st accused, Hajia Serina, is pregnant.

The prosecution in opposition to this application argued that the accused did not show any medical record of the pregnancy as alleged by the counsel for the accused.

The court, after listening to both sides made an order for a pregnancy test to be carried out on the 1st accused, Serina.

The case has been adjourned to 29 and 30th of March for continuation as both still plead not guilty to the offense.

The two suspects, Hajia Serina and Latifa Bumaya have, however, been remanded in prison custody in Tamale.
