The event, intended to foster unity and celebrate sporting excellence, turned chaotic when rivalry between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School (OSTECH) in Awutu Senya West and Swedru School of Business in Agona West escalated into physical confrontations. Several students were injured, and videos of the clashes circulated widely on social media, sparking public concern.

In a statement, Madam Tetteh-Agbotui expressed disappointment over the incidents and emphasised that immediate steps have been taken to address the matter. She confirmed that the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has been engaged and is working with relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the clashes.

The MP also revealed that she has consulted the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, officials from the District Education Office, the headmistress of OSTECH, and senior community leaders to restore calm and prevent a recurrence. She has further discussed the matter with her colleague MP for Agona West, Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, as part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions between the two schools.

Madam Tetteh-Agbotui indicated that she will visit OSTECH during a sod-cutting ceremony for two new dormitory blocks aimed at easing accommodation pressures. During the visit, she plans to meet staff and students to reassure them of measures being put in place to safeguard their security.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the lawmaker stressed that sports should unite students rather than divide them.

“Sad to see sports turn out this way,” she said, urging calm as investigations continue and reiterating her commitment to ensuring student safety and peace within educational institutions.
