The team seized 3 excavators, 4 gold detectors, 2 pump generators, and destroyed 5 chanfans at the site.

The suspects were arrested on Friday May 30, but it’s unclear which police station the suspects were handed over for prosecution.

Hanna Bissiw, however, says those responsible for forest destruction will be made to finance the cost of reforestation.

“Now we know who the polluter is, we will pursue them to make sure that they bear the cost of the Adobewora forest reserve destruction for the people in the community to be safe,” she said.

According to her, only individuals without license run at the sight of an anti-galamsey taskforce.

“We went to AngloGold, and they didn’t run when they knew of operating with legal license, but only illegal operators run away knowing they are doing wrong things,” she observed

Hanna Bissiw said the two Indians and ten Ghanaians were arrested with all their equipment, but some managed to escape.

“Government is not against responsible mining, if you have a proper concession, you have mine responsible to benefit the community,” she said.

The Atwima Nwabiagya South District Chief Executive, Patrick Osei Boamah, assured that the Assembly and Forestry Commission will continue their efforts to combat illegal mining and logging in forest reserves in the area.

“I will urge all my people, especially the chiefs, to support us in the fight against galamsey in our district,” he appealed.

Stop blaming others; we caused our own defeat – NPP Vice chair https://www.adomonline.com/stop-blaming-others-we-caused-our-own-defeat-npp-vice-chair/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 12:12:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2493234

The Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, John Kwame Duodu, popularly known as “Sir John,” has called on members to accept responsibility for their poor performance in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Sir John urged the NPP to move away from blame games and introspectively address the internal mistakes that led to the Party’s defeat.

“The NPP’s failure in the 2024 General Election was a result of our own mistakes. It is about time the Party did a candid self-introspection and corrected these wrongs ahead of the 2028 elections,” he stated.

Self-reflection Over Blame

Sir John emphasised the need for the Party, especially its leadership, to acknowledge their shortcomings and focus on fostering unity.

He noted that leaders entrusted with key positions in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia administration should take responsibility for their roles in the Party’s defeat rather than shifting the blame.

His remarks come amidst widespread post-election finger-pointing within the Party. “True growth and progress can only be achieved by acknowledging and learning from our past mistakes,” Sir John added.

Caution Against Early Declarations

The outspoken NPP leader criticised members who are prematurely declaring their intentions to run for various national, regional, and constituency positions.

“It’s premature for Party leaders, who ought to know better, to be focused on the positions they envisage occupying in the upcoming internal elections, instead of helping the healing and reorganisation process after our unprecedented defeat,” Sir John opined.

He stressed that rushing into leadership contests without first addressing the causes of the 2024 defeat would be counterproductive.

Sir John commended the establishment of regional reconciliation committees, describing them as essential for addressing internal rivalries and maintaining unity within the Party.

Commendation for Dr. Bawumia’s Statesmanship

Sir John praised the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his timely concession of defeat in the presidential election.

“Dr. Bawumia’s decision to concede early was a bold move, motivated by his desire to maintain peace and stability in Ghana,” Sir John remarked.

He urged politicians to emulate Dr. Bawumia’s statesmanship by prioritising the national interest over personal ambitions.

Gratitude to Campaign Teams

In concluding his statement, Sir John expressed deep appreciation to the Party’s campaign teams across all levels for their hard work and dedication.

He acknowledged their tireless efforts, stating, “Your commitment, perseverance, and sacrifices demonstrated the true spirit of the NPP, even in the face of an unexpected defeat.”

Sir John emphasised that the loyalty and hard work of the Party’s members form the backbone of the NPP and will be pivotal in rebuilding and repositioning the Party for future electoral success.

MP leads desilting of drains to ease flooding at Atwima Nwabiagya South https://www.adomonline.com/mp-leads-desilting-of-drains-to-ease-flooding-at-atwima-nwabiagya-south/ Tue, 18 Jul 2023 15:46:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2274229 The Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Emmanuel Adjei Anhwere, is leading the desilting of drains to reduce flooding in the area.

Recent rains led to flooding of some communities in the constituency, cutting some places off from adjoining towns.

The recent rains in June killed two people in the Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency when they attempted crossing a flooded bridge with motorcycles.

They were swept away by the flood waters.

Some residents of Abuakwa-Asenemaso, a flood prone area, move to higher lands anytime it’s cloudy.

They say the area did not experience flooding until people started building in waterways.

They described the desilting as a relief.

The victims of the flood admit they acquired their lands without proper search.

They are, therefore, advising against buying lands in the dry season, especially in low-land areas.

The Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Emmanuel Adjei Anhwere, wants residents to be mindful of poor environmental activities as a preventive measure against floods.
