The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has embarked on a working visit to the Ashanti Region to assess key road infrastructure and evaluate ongoing projects.

The visit, which took place on Monday, March 3, is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to improving road networks across the country.

During the visit, the Minister engaged with local authorities, engineers, and residents to discuss urgent road concerns in the region.

A significant decision made during the tour was the immediate closure of the Atwima Mponua Bridge due to its deteriorating condition. The Minister stressed that the bridge posed a serious safety risk to commuters and road users.

“The current state of this bridge is a serious hazard, and we cannot allow it to remain open when lives are at stake,” Mr. Agbodza stated.

He assured residents that urgent measures would be taken to address the situation and restore safe passage across the bridge.

While acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the closure, the Minister emphasized that safety must remain the top priority.

“I understand that this decision will disrupt movement, but ensuring the safety of road users is our top priority. We will work swiftly to find a solution,” he added.

Mr. Agbodza directed engineers to carry out a comprehensive assessment and present a plan for the bridge’s reconstruction or repairs as soon as possible.

In addition to the bridge issue, the Minister also inspected other road projects in the region and engaged with stakeholders on the way forward.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure to ensure safer travel and enhance economic activities in the Ashanti Region.

Residents welcomed the Minister’s intervention and expressed hope that swift action would be taken to repair the Atwima Mponua Bridge and address other deteriorating roads in the area.

Man, 50, allegedly shoots himself dead https://www.adomonline.com/man-50-allegedly-shoots-himself-dead/ Sun, 18 Jun 2023 14:23:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2261568 Yaw Asare alias Yaw Akuapem, believed to be in his 50s, has allegedly shot himself dead at Enye Nyame Den in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The cause of the death is, however, unclear.

Confirming the sad incident to Onua FM, the wife of the deceased, Mary Gyasiwaa, said she was with her husband in their cocoa farm working and eventually he informed her he was moving to their farm to harvest some foodstuff with his gun.

A few minutes after his departure, she heard the sound of a gunshot.

The wife, however, thought it was out of the expedition.

Later, their children went in the direction of the gunshot and found the lifeless body of their father.

The local authorities and the police were informed and, subsequently, the body was sent to Nyinahin Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The Assemblyman for Ahyiresu Electoral Area, Eric Sarpong Nyantakyi, said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been behaving strangely recently in what many suspected to be a mental disorder.
