The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Taselema, a community along the Techiman-Wa route.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Sunyani to Lawra to attend their late mother’s burial when they encountered the armed robbers.

Eyewitnesses, including some commercial drivers who narrowly escaped, told Adom News that the robbers have been capitalising on the poor road conditions to stage frequent ambushes.

They called on the government to urgently rehabilitate the road to help curb both accidents and robberies. In some instances, the criminals are said to have gone as far as sexually assaulting female passengers.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Taselema Polyclinic mortuary, while his injured son is receiving treatment at the same facility.

Residents and commuters are urging authorities to improve road infrastructure and increase police patrols to ensure safety on the stretch.

Okada rider survives brutal machete attack in Boinso, suspect arrested https://www.adomonline.com/okada-rider-survives-brutal-machete-attack-in-boinso-suspect-arrested/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 20:30:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2546986 A commercial motorbike rider, Emmanuel, popularly known as Suro Obaa in the Boinso community of the Western North Region, has narrowly survived a vicious machete attack believed to have been aimed at ending his life.

The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, June 20, between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, as Emmanuel was returning home from work.

According to eyewitness reports and police information, the attack happened at a notorious stretch of rough road in Boinso, where motorcyclists are often forced to slow down due to poor conditions.

While maneuvering cautiously through the area, Emmanuel was suddenly ambushed by an individual wielding a cutlass. The attacker slashed him multiple times in the head and neck. Bleeding profusely, Emmanuel was only saved by the timely arrival of another motorbike rider, which scared the assailant off.

Despite his injuries, Emmanuel was able to name his attacker, one Abu, also known by the nickname Subzero, a fellow Okada rider from the same town. He identified the suspect’s distinctive outfit, a Barcelona jersey, which police later confirmed was worn by Abu at the time of his arrest.

Emmanuel is currently undergoing emergency surgery at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi, near Enchi, while the suspect remains in custody at the Enchi Municipal Police Station pending further investigation.

Though no formal charges beyond the assault have been confirmed, some residents allege that the suspect may be linked to a suspected local syndicate involved in the sale of human body parts.

These allegations, according to community sources, are tied to previous cases of unexplained disappearances of strangers who reportedly boarded commercial motorbikes operated by individuals suspected to be members of the group.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and to verify community concerns.

A humanoid robot was seen attacking its handler while attempting to break free from restraints, in a scene viewers have branded “dystopian.”

In CCTV footage from a factory in China, the black robot is seen attached to a miniature crane before suddenly beginning to swing its arms back and forth.

As it lashed out violently, a man sitting behind a nearby computer ducked, while another man standing behind the robot quickly backed away.

The robot—seemingly acting on its own—raised its arms into the air and brought them down repeatedly, with increasing speed and force.

It then began walking forward, thrashing wildly in an apparent attempt to break free from the crane.

The two men flinched and cowered, raising their arms to shield their faces as they moved out of its path.

Gambaga College of Education gets 24-hour police security after student attack https://www.adomonline.com/gambaga-college-of-education-gets-24-hour-police-security-after-student-attack/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 09:06:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2515914

The Ghana Police Service has deployed 24-hour security to the Gambaga College of Education in the North-East Region following a recent attack on eight male students, which resulted in the death of one and left another with gunshot wounds.

In addition to the campus security, a police patrol team has been assigned to the area where the attack occurred to ensure the safety of students.

Fact-Finding Visit

The Gambaga District Police Commander, Superintendent Francis Adjei Brobbey, disclosed this when the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor, led a fact-finding team to the school last Friday.

Prof. Jinapor and his team met with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and the management of the college, visited the injured student at the hospital, and paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Mamprugu Kingdom, the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga.

Supt. Brobbey assured that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, stating, “We have put in place informants to get the culprits arrested to bring them to book.”

Incident Details

The first attack occurred on Friday, February 14, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. when unknown assailants shot a student engaged in out-programme teaching practice outside the college campus. The student was rushed to the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu and later referred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Less than a month later, on March 12, 2025, at around 11 p.m., another group of final-year students, returning from watching a football match in the community, was ambushed by two gunmen. The attackers opened fire on eight students, killing one and leaving another with serious gunshot wounds. The injured student is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre.

The Principal of the college, Kassim Korah Nantomah, described the attacks as deeply concerning, warning that such incidents could damage the school’s reputation. “If such incidents are regularly recorded, it will definitely push away potential students,” he said.

No Shutdown of College

Prof. Jinapor welcomed the deployment of 24-hour security and assured students that the situation did not warrant a shutdown of the college. He urged students to remain calm while security agencies worked to restore safety.

He also cautioned that negative publicity could affect the college’s growth, saying, “When the institution is always in the public domain for bad reasons, nobody would want to enrol their ward, which is likely to make the institution’s survival very difficult.”

Ensuring Security and Support

While advising students to be security-conscious and avoid actions that could put them at risk, he called on community members, college management, and students to safeguard the school’s reputation.

Prof. Jinapor further announced that GTEC, in collaboration with the college’s management, would cover the medical expenses of the injured student and support the family of the deceased for a befitting burial.

Marseille condemn ‘personal attacks’ on Rabiot at PSG https://www.adomonline.com/marseille-condemn-personal-attacks-on-rabiot-at-psg/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 01:56:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2515811 Marseille have condemned the “personal attacks” aimed at midfielder Adrien Rabiot and his family during the 3-1 defeat at Paris St-Germain on Sunday.

The match at Parc des Princes was overshadowed by homophobic and racist chants – referencing Marseille’s large Arab population – from some PSG fans, as well as banners directed at Rabiot and his family.

Rabiot alleged PSG fans insulted his father, who died in 2019. The player’s mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, has lodged a complaint.

“The personal attacks, particularly targeting Adrien Rabiot and his family, are despicable and unacceptable,” Marseille said.

“The club, which wishes to offer its full support and solidarity to its midfielder and his loved ones, announces that it joins the complaint filed against unknown persons by Adrien Rabiot’s family.”

The club said they will “continue to be uncompromising and inflexible against any insulting remarks against the club, its management, its employees or its supporters”.

The Paris-born France midfielder made 227 appearances for PSG between 2012 and 2019, and joined rivals Marseille after leaving Juventus last summer.

French referees can stop play if supporters chant homophobic or racist slurs inside stadiums, but Sunday’s official Clement Turpin did not.

“I don’t understand why the match wasn’t stopped,” Rabiot’s mother told Radio France.

“I don’t understand why nobody is outraged. Why are some matches stopped and not others?”

GJA Ashanti condemns attack on 4 journalists at Council of State election chaos https://www.adomonline.com/gja-ashanti-condemns-attack-on-4-journalists-at-council-of-state-election-chaos/ Wed, 12 Feb 2025 17:48:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2503821 The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the attack of journalists during Tuesday’s Council of State election in the region.

A group of thugs purported to be supporters of one of the 12 candidates in the poll barged into the Regional Coordinating Council venue and disrupted the election process on Tuesday.

The thugs destroyed ballot papers and other voting electoral materials, ending the voting exercise abruptly.

Four journalists were physically assaulted in the raid and eventually hospitalized.

In a statement, the GJA-Ashanti described the attack as “vicious” and “unprovoked” thwarting reporters on ground from performing their duties on the day.

“Some ‘macho men’ believed to be linked to the ruling party, National Democratic Congress, caused a stir when they stormed the place and disrupted the exercise. They destroyed all the ballots just when the officials of the Electoral Commission were sorting the ballots,” read the statement signed by Kingsley E. Hope, Regional Chairman.

A complaint has formally been lodged at the police while the journalists receive treatment at various hospitals including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

“This heinous act of violence is a reprehensible affront to press freedom and a stark reminder of the perilous environment in which journalists operate. The fact that this attack occurred in broad daylight, with impunity, is a damning indictment of the authorities’ failure to protect journalists,” the statement read.

The GJA is demanding that the perpetrators be brought to book as the violent attacks and intimidation on journalists have become recurrent.

“This trend must be halted, and those responsible must be held accountable. Attacks on journalists not only harm individuals but also erode trust in institutions and undermine the public’s right to information. We stand in solidarity with the victims and all journalists who face threats, intimidation, and violence in the pursuit of truth,” the statement read.

The statement added: “GJA will not be silenced, and we will continue to demand justice and accountability, and call on authorities to investigate this incident thoroughly and ensure that those responsible are held accountable”.

Governments and leaders worldwide have been urged to prioritize journalists’ safety and also protect the rights of media professionals to report freely and without fear of reprisal.

In a statement signed by Secretary General Joshua Ansah, the TUC described the incidents as unwarranted and called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action.

The union criticised the Ghana Police Service for failing to prevent these acts of vandalism, which it said occurred in the presence of police personnel.

“These acts of vandalism have stained an otherwise peaceful election and the beautiful transfer of political power,” the statement read.

They added that the damage caused will require resources that could have been directed toward addressing economic challenges.

The TUC urged the President to empower the police to arrest and prosecute perpetrators and called on Ghanaians to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy.

The union further appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from such activities, emphasising that such behaviours undermine the country’s progress and tarnish its image following the peaceful transition of power on January 7, 2025.

CSU takes steps to address alleged attack on its student during public lecture https://www.adomonline.com/csu-takes-steps-to-address-alleged-attack-on-its-student-during-public-lecture/ Sun, 23 Jun 2024 18:04:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2412214 The Christian Service University (CSU) is taking the necessary steps to holistically address an alleged attack on one of its students during a public lecture addressed by former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

A statement issued by the University said the Dean of Students on behalf of management had reached out to the said student to provide the necessary psycho-social support.

It said the public lecture was generally successful and that the isolated incident was regrettable.

“As an academic institution, we believe in multiparty democracy as the bedrock for sustainable development and security in Ghana. We consistently maintain neutrality in all our dealings with established political order of the day,” part of the statement read.

The statement, signed by the Director for Institutional Advancement and Public Relations, highlighted numerous public lectures organised by the University over the years with distinguished personalities as guest speakers.

It further explained that as part of its one year-long activities marking the 50th anniversary of the University since its establishment, three public lectures had been lined up by the planning committee.

This means beyond the lecture addressed by the Former President, there are two more to be addressed by the Vice President and Flag Bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and an alumnus of the University.

The objective of the lectures, according to the statement, is to partner the political giants in the country to conceptualise new ways of sustaining our democracy and the recovery of the Ghanaian economy.

In line with this, the statement said the University would continue to pray and work towards peace and harmony in Ghana.

The 50th anniversary is scheduled to be climaxed with a grand durbar on September 27, 2024.

Israel says defences are ‘ready’ as Iran attacks https://www.adomonline.com/israel-says-defences-are-ready-as-iran-attacks/ Sat, 13 Apr 2024 22:32:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2380858 Iran has launched aerial drones at Israel, appearing to mark a widely anticipated reprisal attack.

Israeli TV said the salvo was expected to reach Israel at 02:00 on Sunday (23:00 GMT on Saturday).

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had launched missiles as well as drones “at specific targets”.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said they were on high alert and “monitoring all targets”. Israel’s prime minster convened a meeting of his war cabinet.

Israel, Lebanon and Iraq have closed their airspaces, and Syria and Jordan have put their air defences on alert.

Iran had vowed to retaliate for an attack on its consulate in Syria on 1 April, which killed seven military officers, including a top commander.

It accused Israel of carrying out that attack. Israel neither confirmed nor denied it.

Shortly before news of Iran’s drone launches, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country’s “defensive systems” were deployed.

“We are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

“We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries.”

After news broke of the attack, US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said: “President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad.”

“The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defence against these threats from Iran.”

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Iran’s “reckless” attack, vowing that the UK would “continue to stand up for Israel’s security and that of all our regional partners”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) – the most powerful branch of its armed forces – said it had launched the attack “in retaliation against the Zionist regime’s [Israel] repeated crimes, including the attack on the Iranian embassy’s consulate in Damascus”.

Ahafo Fire Command condemns attack on officers at Hwidem https://www.adomonline.com/ahafo-fire-command-condemns-attack-on-officers-at-hwidem/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 16:19:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2360183 The Ahafo Regional Fire Service Command has strongly condemned the recent attack on its officers by residents of Hwidiem during a fire outbreak in the area.

Deputy Fire Commander for the Ahafo Region, DO1 Percy Odoi Anang, explained that officers from Kenyasi were viciously attacked by residents of Hwidiem when they arrived to assist in fighting a fire outbreak in the Zongo area.

The attack stemmed from residents’ frustration over what they perceived as a delayed response.

Despite efforts by the officers to explain that they were there to support their colleagues due to lack of fighting resources, residents refused to listen and proceeded to assault them.

As a result, four officers sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized at Saint Elizabeth Hospital.

DO1 Percy Odoi Anang said such actions by residents are unacceptable and unlawful.

He stressed that, the Fire Service prioritizes prompt response to fire incidents but faces challenges in areas where fire stations and equipment are lacking.

He urged residents to refrain from resorting to violence and instead support the Fire Service in their efforts to protect communities.

He further highlighted the need for understanding and cooperation from residents, particularly in areas where fire stations are scarce, emphasizing that the Fire Service relies on mutual support to effectively address fire outbreaks and ensure public safety.

The English referee took charge of the final in Budapest between serial winners Sevilla and Jose Mourinho’s Serie A side.

It was a busy night for the Englishman, who flashed 13 yellows as the La Liga outfit continued their incredible record in the competition, winning it for a seventh time in 18 years, stretching back to when it was still known as the UEFA Cup.

They fell behind to Paulo Dybala’s opener before a Gianluca Mancini own goal squared things up ten minutes after the break.

The pair couldn’t separated in 120 minutes, so penalties it was. And Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men held their nerve to secure a 4-1 victory on spot kicks and bring the trophy back to what is now it’s spiritual home in the South of Spain.

But the night didn’t end for Taylor when Gonzalo Montiel converted the decisive pen, which proved controversial after Taylor ordered a retake on the advice of VAR shortly after the Argentine had missed his initial attempt.

Moment comedian was attacked on stage with gun that contained a knife blade [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/moment-comedian-was-attacked-on-stage-with-gun-that-contained-a-knife-blade-video/ Wed, 04 May 2022 14:42:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2111234 A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after an on-stage attack on US comedian Dave Chappelle.

The suspect had been carrying a replica handgun that contained a knife blade, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department told BBC News.

Chappelle was unharmed, but the suspect has been taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The incident took place while Chappelle was performing at the Hollywood Bowl.

Clips shared on social media showed someone charging into the star during his set at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival on Tuesday.

Last year, Chappelle faced criticism and protests when his Netflix special was accused of being transphobic.

After returning to the stage on Tuesday, the 48-year-old appeared to make light of the controversy, suggesting to the audience that the attacker “was a trans man”.

According to ABC journalist Stephanie Wash, fellow comic Chris Rock – who was slapped on stage by Will Smith at the Oscars in March – then came on stage with Chappelle.

Carpenter told the PA news agency an attacker “lunged” at the comedian as he headlined the event, sending him “flying in the air”.

She said: “It looked like someone was dashing across the stage from the side. He fell backwards on to his back, with his arms and legs up in the air. He was obviously in shock. We were all in shock.

“I thought for a moment OK, is this a prank? Because they had made some Will Smith jokes. Even though Chris Rock was there, Dave was making some jokes, it was fair game, right?”

In one video, Chappelle could be seen thanking his famous friends for helping out, saying: “Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff’s hat.”

“I thought that was part of the show,” Foxx responded.

Chappelle joked: “I’ve been doing this 35 years. I just stomped a [person] backstage. I’ve always wanted to do that.”

Kelvynboy attacked by angry UCC students? https://www.adomonline.com/kelvynboy-attacked-by-angry-ucc-students/ Mon, 25 Apr 2022 14:04:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2108486 Some angry University of Cape Coast students have allegedly attacked ‘Downflat’ Hitmaker Kelvynboy known in real life as Kelvyn Brown on the school’s campus.

Reports of the incident which are springing up on social media along with a video showed some upheavals late in the night.

Kelvynboy was seen being heckled by some aggrieved students of UCC over his decision to perform early and leave Cape Coast.

Social media reports have it that Kelvynboy was billed to perform at the University of Cape Coast’s 60th-anniversary launch.

However, the Down Flat crooner had also been booked for an event at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

So in a bid to satisfy both parties, Kelvynboy went to the campus of UCC first to perform so as to rush back as fast as possible to Accra to thrill the UPSA students.

Kelvynboy’s plans were not satisfactory enough for the students of UCC who felt aggrieved that he wanted to perform early which is not noted for A-list artistes (noted for coming on stage almost at the end).

But, the students prevented him from leaving as was seen in the video which is circulating on social media.

It took some security personnel to calm down the enraged crowd who were not backing down until their demands were met.

Irate youth destroy chief’s palace, vehicle, over alleged involvement in galamsey https://www.adomonline.com/irate-youth-destroy-chiefs-palace-vehicle-over-alleged-involvement-in-galamsey/ Tue, 08 Mar 2022 11:18:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2088365 Some irate youth at Sehwi Amoaya in the Bodi District of the Western North Region have attacked their chief and some opinion leaders over alleged involvement in illegal mining ongoing in their community.

The chief of Sehwi Amoaya, Nana Bukure II, Seidu, and the assemblyman for the electoral area were part of the leaders targeted in the Monday attack.

The angry youth destroyed the chief’s palace and his Toyota Highlander car.

A provision shop belonging to the assemblyman of the area, and the unit committee chairman was also not spared.

It took the intervention of the Western North Regional Minister and a team of police personnel to call the youth to order.

Addressing the irate residents at Sehwi Amoaya, the Regional Minister, Richard Ebbah Obeng, ordered culprits involved in illegal mining on river Amoaya to put their activities to an end.

While condemning the attack, Mr Obeng said the government is purely against mining in river bodies and forest reserves.

He condemned the youth for using violence to seek rights, and advised them to use the correct means to address their issues if they are positive of their suspicion.

Meanwhile, the youth, in turn, made it known until the matter of illegal mining is dealt with, they cannot assure such attacks would not happen again.

Blaze Jessop, 19, says she was attacked while on the way home from a night out with her sister.

She suffered a broken eye socket and cheekbone in the alleged attack.

Blaze was out with her older sister on November 26 for drinks in Hull’s Old Town, HullLive reports.

The 19-year-old says that while she was at a bar a woman came up to her and pointed at a group of men and said “watch out for them – I just get a strange vibe”.

The mum says she then began to vomit and claims she was “thrown out” of the bar by bouncers.

Blaze and her sister got a taxi to go back to her sister’s home before calling their mum Carrie.

Concerned mother-of-seven, Carrie said: “They got home and were telling me they loved me – the usually fluffy mood after a night out, and the next thing you know, the phone just went blank and went off. I was terrified.

“I later tried to get in touch with them but their phones had died.”

Blaze claims a man let himself into the home while they were on the phone with their mum at about 2.20 am and said “what now girls”.

The pair “shoved him” out of the house before a fight erupted on the street.

Carrie claims her daughters were “almost beaten to death” after being attacked by the man.

“My eldest daughter told me today that she knows she can just tell she had been spiked. She said two days later, her pupils are really small and she has been having nose bleeds.”

The following day, the family were unsure what had happened so went back to the Old Town bar from the night before.

Blaze said: “We saw the CCTV evidence from the Saturday night and saw the attacker straight away.”

Carrie said: “You could see a man pointing to loads of girls. There seemed to be a group of them but then this one-pointed and you could see they spiked their drinks. It’s all on CCTV.”

Humberside Police are currently investigating the claims.

A force spokeswoman said: “We are in the early stages of investigating an alleged assault of a woman on Belmont Street in Hull.

“The incident took place at around 2 am on Saturday, November 27.

“It is reported that a man joined the victim and another woman in a taxi from Hull city centre to Belmont Street. After they arrived it is reported that a disturbance took place and the man assaulted the woman.

“Officers attended at the scene on Saturday morning and supported those involved, making sure they were safe and at no further risk. The suspect had fled the scene.

“The investigation will look to establish the full circumstances of the incident and anyone who can assist with our enquiries is asked to call our non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 16/116889/21.”

Blaze said: “The man hit me with a Nokia phone and beat me up. I now have a broken eye socket, broken cheekbone, shattered nose, shattered thumb and two black eyes.”

Mum Carrie also claims Blaze’s sister, who does not want to be named, “smacked her head on the street and had a concussion.”

Carrie said: “The girls screamed so loud that the neighbours heard them. If they hadn’t then the neighbours wouldn’t have called an ambulance to take them to the hospital.

“My girls are only 5ft 4ins and about eight stone so they are only tiny. He almost beat them to death. They told me that people came out of their homes into the street to try and stop it.

Irate youth attack Qnet office, invade Police station https://www.adomonline.com/irate-youth-attack-qnet-office-invade-police-station/ Thu, 11 Nov 2021 09:23:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2042189 Some irate youth of Nkenkaasu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region have attacked Qnet agents’ office at Asikafo Amantem in the Nkrammom Electoral Area.

According to the angry youth, the Company is fraudulent and scamming a number of people.

They also allege the presence of Qnet Independent Representatives and hundreds of the victims have increased crime in the area.

The youth allegedly assaulted the Qnet agents with one person sustaining a knife injury.

The timely intervention of the Police averted bloodbath and arson attacks on the office.

One of the irate youth was arrested and detained at the police station.

On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at about 7:00 am, the irate youth wielding machetes, sticks, and clubs massed up in front of Nkenkaasu Police station to demand the release of their colleague from custody but were resisted by the armed police officers who mounted a barricade.

The Qnet agents have temporarily closed down the office.

The Assemblymember for the Area, Mustapha Seidu Mohammed told Starr News, he was facilitating a stakeholder meeting between the Community, Police, and Qnet officials to resolve the feud.

He explained to Starr News that Qnet started operating in the community a year and a half ago having introduced themselves to him, the traditional rulers, Police.

The attack on the Qnet office comes a few days after the Government cautioned desperate job seekers to be cautious of the activities of QNET, an international e-commerce based direct selling company.

Deputy Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Sunday, November 7, 2021, “Victims are lured into lucrative non-existing jobs but end up entrapped in the operations of a network marketing company, QNET.

“Upon arrival in these countries, the victims have stripped off their valuables, held hostage under squalid conditions, and forced to commit to QNET services by signing a contract under duress. The only way for victims to gain their freedom is to be compelled to lure others into the business,” she said.

She revealed that the government is liaising with law enforcement agencies in Mali to rescue Ghanaians lured into QNET activities in Mali.

“Checks have revealed that some Ghanaians are caught up in several QNET facilities across Mali. Consequently, the Ghanaian Mission in Bamako is liaising with the law enforcement agencies in Mali to rescue Ghanaians forcibly engaged in QNET activities in Mali,” she said.

The Deputy Minister also stated that Qnet agents are using a similar modus operandi in Ghana which some nationals of African countries like Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Cameroun have fallen victim to the scam by similar syndicates in Ghana.

Currently,15 Independent Representatives of Qnet in the Eastern Regional Capital Koforidua are standing trial over fraud and Ponzi scheme.

Starr FM Investigation

Starrfm.com.gh published on March 15, 2021, that scores of Ghanaians and some West African nationals risk being scammed by agents of network marketing company Qnet Ghana.

Many Independent Representatives (IRs) in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, operating as agents of the company are using what appears to be deceptive business modules to recruit people as independent representatives.

During the investigation, a young man who identified himself as Elvis Nelson Ayittey -Manager and Qnet agent, explained that to be registered as an Independent Representative, the individual must buy a form of at least Ghc100 and pay at least Ghc4,200 for the purchase of a product online and additionally pay Ghc400 hostel fee.

He added that after payment, an online dollar account would be created for the individual to receive payment of commission twice daily after referring two others to also purchase a product

“To join this company, you have to purchase a product before. I hope he mentioned the prices to you. The least priced products are the chi -pendant which is GHC 4,200 and the bio-dic is Ghc4,300.

“There is a way that we can do it for you to secure an account but without. getting the product that is paying ghc2,800. The company operates in 184 countries, 42 are in Africa so they use one common platform. So, we are going to create an international account for you so that you can use it to get the product.

This business is a form of E-commerce so you can do it to attach any work that you do. If you want to come and stay here add just Ghc400 to the amount to make it ghc4,600 or Ghc4,700,” he said

“The advertising of the product is not about the number of people that you are going to advertise to. It is a form of teamwork. I started this business 16th of April last year things have changed in my life.

“I have many people. I have an office at Cape coast. Every week you will get a commission. If you get 60 people under you, you will make $5000 every week. So, try and join; you are going to fill the form. For the money, you can pay in installments. The forms are from GH100 upwards,” The manager was captured on tape.

Apparently, the Qnet agent has a school attached to the network marketing as new recruits are made to register for online diploma and degree courses allegedly affiliated to Quest International University. He said Diploma and Degree certificates will be awarded depending on the course one pursues.

One of the Qnet offices at Koforidua -Okorase had Burkinabe, Nigerians and Malians held hostage.

The agents convince their victims mostly from Mali and Burkina Faso that they have secured well-paid jobs in Ghana for them.

The victims are asked to pay huge amounts to enable them to commence work. After paying the amounts, they are held hostage under the pretence of being trained to work online as Qnet Independent Representatives.

Mobile phones of the victims are seized to disable them from communicating with their families.

The victims were told to convince two persons from their respective countries to come to Ghana under the guise of securing job opportunities for them before they could be released.

Qnet trades products ranging from energy, nutrition, personal care, luxury and collectables, accessories, cosmetics, vehicles, holidays and education among others.

Over 10,000 people working under Qnet in Ghana

Qnet claimed that its network had employed 10,000 people in Ghana who earn between 1,000-10,000 dollars per month.

On 22nd and 23rd February 2018, Qnet Ghana organized its first-ever Absolute Living Expo which was attended by many stakeholders and the general public. Government agencies such as the Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of Business Development were well represented.

Ghana’s largest business association, the Association of Ghana Industries was also represented at the Expo which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Business Development, Mr. Joe Tackie, representing the Minister for Business Development said: “We are glad to have QNET in Ghana for the long haul.

We are also very glad that QNET’s business module supports entrepreneurship.

Having been in existence for 20 years and operating in about 100 countries across the world, we believe that Ghanaians will benefit immeasurably from the health, nutritional and entrepreneurial exploits QNET is introducing to Ghana.”

The Head of SME, at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Sampson Abankwa, representing the Minister for Trade & Industry added: “QNET’s entrance into Ghana is opening the space up for more entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth and Ghanaians in general”

Attorney General in Court

In July this year, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame petitioned the commercial division of the Accra High Court to dissolve QNET marketing company and accused it of operating as a Ponzi scheme.

The Attorney General in its petition said, “Investigations by the National Security Council Secretariat disclosed that the respondent, (QNET), operates in a manner akin to a Ponzi scheme by luring clients to make deposits and investments with them which they eventually lose.”

It added that “The respondent (QNET) lures unsuspecting members of the public to pay the sum of about GH¢5,000 for the purpose of placing them in various jobs which turned out to be a hoax.”

The petition was filed under the Corporate Insolvency and Restructuring Act, 2020 (Act 1015).

Man, 40, battling for his life after attacks at Ejura [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/man-40-battling-for-his-life-after-attacks-at-ejura-photos/ Mon, 28 Jun 2021 12:19:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1979324 A 40-year-old man who received several death threats weeks ago has been attacked by two men at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

Ibrahim Mohammed was repeatedly hit in the head with objects until he lost consciousness.

Mr Mohammed is a well-known NPP member in the Ejura Sekyeredumasi constituency.

He has always called for social amenities to be provided to the rural folks.

According to his brother’s wife, Sadia Fuseini, she heard incessant screams from outside their home so she proceeded outside to check only to find Ibrahim lying unconscious.

NPP social activist attacked in Ejura

Speaking to JoyNews’ Mahmud Mohammed-Nurudeen, a relative of the victim, Abee Wakas Umar stated that “the assailants thought Ibrahim had died so they left the house.”

At about 2:00 am, the victim’s wife, Sa’ada Hudu, and other relatives had to transport Ibrahim on a motorbike to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Sources say, he was found in a pool of blood after the assailants had left.

According to a Medical report in the possession of JoyNews, Ibrahim was diagnosed with severe head injury due to the assault.

The report also describes his condition as having suffered “multiple deep scalp lacerations, deeply unconscious, multiple facial lesions, facial and head contusions.”

The victim is therefore not responding to external stimuli. As a result, a Medical Superintendent at the Hospital said Ibrahim’s condition is critical.

Ibrahim has therefore been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.

In recent times, the victim took to social media, particularly Facebook Live, to expose social issues affecting residents of Ejura.

Sources say his decision to highlight issues facing the rural folks did not go down well with some people who claim his actions were making the town unpopular.

Ibrahim, popularly known as Kaaka, received several death threats until Saturday dawn when he had returned home from preparing for his relative’s wedding when the two assailants attacked him.

The victim, Kaaka Anyass Ibrahim (Macho Kaka)

Umar said the assailants had already ambushed him in the house, knowing well he would come back late because of their conversation, usually long hours, ahead of the wedding ceremony.

When Ibrahim got home on his motorbike, he was severely attacked, leading to a severe head injury.

The case has been reported to the Ejura police, but some residents are unhappy with the slow pace of the investigation since they have already submitted names of suspects to the police.

They have therefore stormed the District Police Command,/ demanding answers and asking the Police to speed up the investigation to avoid disturbance in the town.

Police report from the Criminal Investigation Department indicates, the case was reported at 2:00am Saturday, June 26, 2021.

But the security service is yet to communicate to the relatives; a situation the family is dissatisfied with.
