At the La Palm Royal beach, where the ‘questionable’ official announcement was made of Chef Smith 820-hour Guinness World Record cook-a-thon confirmation, the journalist identified as Thomas Samuel Adjei was manhandled.

While covering a chaos that erupted at the premises between former sponsors and Chef Smith’s management, Thomas revealed he was approached by some military officials to cease filming.

He reports being manhandled, with his phone seized and videos he had taken of the event and other private reportages deleted.

The journalist further revealed he was smacked twice in his occiput during the incident.

Despite the intervention of the hotel’s security and other journalists present, the situation intensified.

Thomas alleged that the military officials who manhandled him had no name tags or identification of being associated with the armed force.

The incident occurred after the officer responded to a complaint filed by the man’s girlfriend, who alleged physical assault.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Police Chief Inspector who was not wearing his uniform attempted to arrest the suspect.

But, he initially pleaded to be left alone and promised to heed the official invite later.

Tensions quickly escalated as the suspect became confrontational when his demands were declined.

In the ensuing altercation, the suspect knocked down the Inspector as he attempted to flee.

He dragged the officer on the ground and gave him some punches, as the officer gripped him in restraint.

The defeated officer called for reinforcement, and some other officers arrived at the scene to help arrest the suspect.

The suspect has been remanded in police custody for two weeks, pending investigations.

The victim, Rakia Huseini, was rushed to Asamankese government hospital but referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

Information gathered indicates that, Togbe Gadefia and the 25-year-old Rakia Huseini were in a romantic relationship until Rakia broke up with him to marry a Muslim.

Togbe Gadefia who lives in Krofoforomu a suburb of Asamankese was seriously heartbroken and did everything possible to get her lover back but it was practically impossible.

Upon hearing that, the ex-lover was getting married to another man this weekend, he ambushed her in the evening around 9:00pm on Monday September 11, 2023 and inflicted machete wounds on her.

The suspect allegedly attempted to hack the head of Rakia but she blocked with her hand thereby amputating the forearm.

He also cut off the patella (kneecap) of the ex-lover with the machete.

The victim was rushed to Asamankese government hospital by passersby who found her in a pool of blood.

After her condition was stabilised, she was referred to Eastern Regional hospital in Koforidua for surgery.

The suspect reported himself to the Police and has since been arrested to assist investigation.

Mr Kofi Antwi, a teacher of English language, said he was humiliated in front of his students, detained and denied access to hospital after a Policeman hit his head several times with the butt of his gun.

Mr Antwi narrated that he fell on the ground in front of his students, who were protesting over frequent crashes of pedestrians in front of their school. The victims of these crashes include students and teachers of the school.

The 40-year-old teacher arrived on campus on Monday, June 13, 2022, with one objective- to teach his students.

But his comments that the protesting students had a justifiable cause might have infuriated a Police officer who threw slaps at him, landing him on the ground.

“It was pre-incidence that I was speaking with somebody that I told them that oh, though nobody wished for demonstration, but they(students) have a justifiable cause. Maybe that is what triggered the Policeman to come and tell me, have I seen what my students are causing and he landed slaps on me, I fell on the ground and he used his gun butt on me.”

Mr Kofi Antwi is among five teachers who suffered such an ordeal during Monday’s protest, which also saw 8 Policemen injured and recorded the hospitalisation of 38 students of the school.

He had the opportunity to meet members of Parliament’s Defense, Interior and National Security Committee who were on a fact-finding mission on the incident, to tell them about his ordeal.

The teacher also told journalists he was denied medical attention after the assault.

“When we were even going to the Police station, I was telling them that I am severely wounded because of the bruises, but they never took me serious.”

Currently, Mr Antwi is suffering head and eye injuries and has to be assisted to walk.

He wants justice for the unprovoked attacks on him. “I want justice,” he demanded.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Parliament’s Defence, Interior and National Security Committee, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has justified the action of the students.

The 18-member committee, on a fact-finding mission under the instructions of Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin visited the school on Friday, June 17, 2022.

Mr Agyapong blamed the Highways and Urban Roads Departments for failing to act on numerous complaints to address the frequent crashes of pedestrians.

“I think the problem you faced has been lingering for so long that’s why probably, you overreacted. So we are pleading with you that next time, remember your song, “discipline is our hallmark”. So please, don’t let us take the law into our hands anymore.”

“But at least, your action brought us here. Is it a bad action or not? To me, it is good action. You get people being killed, you get people knocked down by cars. The headmaster, and the school report to Urban Roads and they take no action. If I am in any position, I will fire the Urban Roads Director,” he stated.

It was gathered that the suspect, Azeez Kuforiji, perpetrated the act on Tuesday, October 12 when he visited the victim.

Azeez is said to have showed up at Soliat’s shop where she works as an attendant to confront her for not answering his phone calls.

He is said to have beaten her mercilessly before proceeding to use his teeth to cut off her fingers.

Prior to that, Azeez is reported to have been in a fist fight with Soliat, for which she decided to stay away from him.

The case was reported at Wawa police station and he was arrested while Soliat was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

However, there are claims that Azeez’s family is threatening the victim to withdraw the case.

This follows a near-deadly attack on the Chief of Pitiko Nana Frimpong Akoamire II by unknown thugs.

The thugs, wielding guns, knives, sticks, and other dangerous implements invaded the house of the Chief in the evening around 9:00 pm.

They subjected him to severe beatings, tore his dress, dragged and paraded him naked in the street.

The thugs numbering about 30 violently abducted the Chief to Tease and paraded him before the Krontihene of Pitiko Nana Adu Paako I who admitted to sanctioning the attack.

The Chief narrated to Starr News that “I was seated here with the Queen-mother discussing some issues at about 9:00 pm then suddenly, some thugs invaded the house started smashing my vehicle.

“I attempted to dash to my room, but two of the men wielding guns pulled a pistol and threatened to shoot me if I move an inch.

“So they pulled me out of the house and started assaulting me and knocked me down to the ground and dragged me in the gravels. They were numbering about 30 wielding guns, machete, sticks, and others things.”

“They told me the Police is aware of their operation. Then they took me and paraded me at gunpoint through the street walked to Adomasua on barefoot and half-naked while hitting me with the sticks and dehumanized me.”

The badly injured Chief was taken to the Police station by the thugs and the Krontihene where a medical form was issued to him to seek treatment at Tease Presbyterian Clinic.

“The thugs took me to the Police station I was very weak and couldn’t stand so I laid flat on the floor. So the police gave me a medical form for treatment.

“None of the thugs were arrested. The only thing the police did was retrieving my mobile phone for me so that I could reach out to my family.”

Nana Frimpong Akoamire II was referred to Atibie where he was admitted, treated, and discharged on Wednesday.

He was given two armed Police escort by the Abetifi Police to return to Tease District Police Command in Afram Plains South on Thursday, April 15, 2021, to write a formal statement on the incident to enable police investigation.

A woman who witnessed the incident corroborated that “The Chief struggled with them but they outnumbered him, beat him mercilessly, knocked him down and dragged him on the ground. In fact I urinated on myself out of panic. In fact they beat the Chief.”

Nana AKuamoa Asumani -Pitiko Akwamuhene accused the District Chief Executive of Afram Plains South George Ofori of being behind the Krontihene in carrying out the atrocious act.

The attack has been linked to a chieftaincy dispute in the Pitiko traditional area.

The faction of the assaulted Chief has mobilized and threatening to clash with any group that invades the Community again.

The DCE and the Krontihene did not respond to the effort to get their side of the story.

Philip Caesar Kumah’s plea was not taken and is to reappear on March 25, this year.

The Prosecution prayed the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, to remand the suspect to enable the Police to undertake further investigations.

Mr Kumah was alleged to have assaulted his girlfriend Elizabeth Yesutor Akpalu, resulting in her death later at the Ho Teaching Hospital.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alex Yeboah, acting Ho Municipal Commander, said fresh findings in the death of the deceased did not agree with the initial facts of the matter.

He said there would be the need for an autopsy to validate the claims.

He said Police are speedily organising themselves to have the autopsy done early enough to determine the next line of action.

He was allegedly slapped by the security detail whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

The assault left the journalist visibly bruised with part of his face swollen and his right eye teary with pain.
