This announcement follows a briefing by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to the Asanteman Council on Monday, August 11, 2025, regarding the passing of the revered Queen Mother, who died peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The One Week Celebration is scheduled to take place at Bogyawe, Manhyia Palace, from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m. on the designated date.

The funeral ban aims to ensure that the King, royal family, and people of Asanteman can fully participate in the traditional rites and pay their respects to the late Queen Mother.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was a pivotal figure in the Ashanti Kingdom’s social and cultural life, serving as a mother figure, custodian of tradition, and unifying symbol for her people.

Further details regarding the funeral arrangements will be communicated by the Palace in the coming weeks.

Asanteman urges Mahama to prioritize Ashanti Region development https://www.adomonline.com/asanteman-urges-mahama-to-prioritize-ashanti-region-development/ Sun, 19 Jan 2025 17:33:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2494568 The Asanteman Council has urged President John Mahama to prioritize ongoing and future development projects in the Ashanti Region.

The appeal was made during the President’s visit to the first Akwasidae Festival of the year in Kumasi, where he was warmly received by traditional leaders and residents.

Speaking on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, called on the President to ensure that development projects across the Ashanti Kingdom, including those in Mampong, are given top priority.

“You shall not let us down on all the ongoing developmental projects within the kingdom—not only in Kumasi but across the rest of the kingdom, like your own brother’s kingdom, Mampong,” Daasebre Osei Bonsu II stated.

The Mamponghene also commended President Mahama for his efforts to streamline governance by reducing the number of ministerial appointments. He encouraged the President to ensure that key officials responsible for development remain focused on addressing the needs of the Ashanti Region.

“Asanteman should always be number one because now, you are our precious president of Mother Ghana,” he added.

President Mahama, who used the occasion to express gratitude to the Asanteman Council for their support during the 2024 elections, reassured the gathering of his commitment to equitable development. He acknowledged the region’s significant contribution to his electoral victory and pledged to see all ongoing and future projects through to completion.

After 150 years, 39 of the Asante royal regalia and objects looted by British troops during the third Anglo-Asante war of 1874, popularly known as Sagrenti War, are returning to the Asantehene in Kumasi.

The first batch of seven treasures from the Fowler Museum of the University of California in Los Angeles is already in Kumasi and is being handed over to Asanteman at the grand durbar of chiefs at the Manhyia Palace.

2nd batch

The second batch of 32 will arrive from two leading cultural institutions in the United Kingdom – the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum – in April. They are expected to be also received at an official durbar of chiefs in May 2024.

The collections, which range from the original sacred Mponponsuo state sword dating back to 300 years to other ornaments of silver and gold, come under two separate agreements.

The Mponponsuo sword is what all Asantehenes traditionally swore their oath of office and paramount chiefs their allegiance to the Asantehenes.

Dubbed “Kuntunkuni Durbar”, it started with a display by traditional priests at the Manhyia Palace as part of the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War.
