The facts of the case presented by the Prosecutor Inspector Samuel Owusu are that, the convict Emmanuel Afanu and his accomplice now at large both live in Mepom.

They, however, conspired to commit crime to wit robbery hence on 8th April 2022 at about 7:50 pm, the convict and his accomplice attacked and robbed a student Sakyi Michael of his iPhone 7 and money worth GH¢2,500 with scissors at Yayo, a suburb of Asamankese while going home.

The convict and the accomplice jumped on their motorbike in an attempt to abscond but the victim managed to maintain a hook on Emmanuel Afanu’s shirt and struggled with him but Afanu stabbed him with the scissors before absconding with the mobile phone.

The prosecutor said the victim screamed for help which attracted residents around to the scene. They were pursued and the suspect was arrested.

He was handed over to the Asamankese Police where he was charged with the offence after investigation and arraigned.

He pleaded guilty.

Stephen Anane Ayitey was also convicted into 18 months for assault, contrary to section 84 of the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

The sentences will all run concurrently.

The court, presided over by Abubakari Abass Adams, ruled that he serves his jail term in hard labour.

Inspector Samuel Owusu, the Prosecuting Officer, told the court that the complainant is a farmer residing at Breku-Manso, a suburb of Asamankese. The convict also lives in the same town.

According to him, on June 1, 2019, at about 5: 30 am, the complainant was returning from all-night prayer service to Betom-Owuram when the convict emerged from the bush and attacked her.

He told the court Ayittey indecently inserted his fingers into the complainant’s vagina while struggling with her.

The prosecutor said the convict assaulted her mercilessly and took ¢200 away from her after the victim pleaded and suggested he took the money to gain her freedom.

The complainant later reported the case to the Asamankese Police, where she was issued a medical form for treatment at Asamankese Government Hospital.

The Police later arrested the convict at a prayer camp, and during interrogation, he admitted the offences.

He was arraigned after a report on the victim was sent to Attorney General`s office for advice.

In default, Kwaku Tweneboah, will serve three years in prison as his action is contrary to section 41(2) of the Narcotic Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019).

Prosecutor General Sergeant Samuel Owusu said the complainants, in this case, are policemen stationed at the Akyem Oda Division whilst the convict is a porter at Oda.

He said on July 6, at about 11:00 am, the complainants, who were on motorbike patrolling the Oda township had a tip-off that the convict together with a group of young men had gathered at a location noted for drug peddling.

According to him, the police proceeded to the location where they found the convict and some other persons trading drugs.

The suspects, he said, upon seeing the police bolted but were chased until the convict was arrested near a dilapidated wooden structure.

Sergeant Owusu said the convict threw away a black polythene bag in his possession. However, the officers retrieved it and found 51 wraps of narcotic plant suspected to be cannabis and an amount of GH¢7.00.

He was sent to the Oda Divisional Police Command where he was charged and arraigned.
