The warning comes despite a heightened security presence in the area, deployed to maintain calm following years of tension and intermittent clashes within parts of the municipality.

According to the community, incidents of targeted attacks—particularly the burning of properties believed to belong to Akyode residents—have persisted, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the current security arrangements.

Their frustration intensified after a recent alleged arson attack, which has renewed doubts about the ability of authorities to safeguard lives and property.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, community representative David Soglo questioned what he described as the silence of the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) over the recurring incidents.

He warned that repeated attacks without visible action or accountability risk escalating tensions and eroding public trust in state institutions.

Mr Soglo stressed that the community’s patience is wearing thin, cautioning that any further attacks could provoke resistance from residents determined to protect themselves.

He maintained that while the community seeks peace, it must be accompanied by protection, fairness, and swift enforcement of the law.

The Akyode community is therefore calling for strengthened security measures, comprehensive investigations into the recent arson incidents, and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
