Five arrested for producing fake DVLA number plates https://www.adomonline.com/five-arrested-for-producing-fake-dvla-number-plates/ Tue, 10 Mar 2026 13:04:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2638934 The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with National Security, has arrested five suspects for allegedly manufacturing and distributing fake vehicle registration plates across Ghana.

In a statement issued on March 10, the DVLA said the suspects were arrested in separate operations at Lapaz, Narmah, Tarkwa and Kumasi.

According to the authority, the suspects have been arraigned before court and remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear in court on March 17, 2026, while two other suspects linked to the syndicate are currently on the run.

Investigations by the DVLA revealed that the fake number plates were often issued together with fraudulent motor insurance documents to make them appear legitimate.

The authority warned that the circulation of counterfeit registration plates poses serious risks to road safety and undermines the integrity of the vehicle registration system.

It also reminded the public that the forgery, use or display of fake DV plates is a criminal offence under Regulation 23 of L.I. 2180, and offenders will face prosecution.

The DVLA has therefore urged motorists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to fake vehicle registration plates.

The prime suspect, Kwabla Egblorgbe Gadoglo Mohammed, also known as “Moha,” 31, was tracked and arrested at his hideout in Afienya on February 13, 2026, nearly a month after the robbery.

Police investigations revealed that Mohammed and an accomplice, who was later lynched by an angry mob, hired the services of an okada rider, Muntari Zakari, from Kwabenya under the pretext of a routine trip to Sibakon Hospital on January 18, 2026.

Upon reaching Sibakon Down, the suspects allegedly attacked the rider with a locally manufactured pistol and a stone. They robbed him of his iPhone 13 Pro and demanded the keys to his unregistered Royal motorbike.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Kwame Accolor, alias “Small Kidi,” 37, at Anyako in the Volta Region. Police say he allegedly purchased the stolen iPhone 13 Pro from Mohammed for GH¢800.

Authorities are currently working to retrieve the locally manufactured pistol allegedly used in the robbery.

The operation, carried out by officers stationed at the Tweapease Police barrier near Obuasi, resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of tramadol and tapentadol concealed in sealed boxes and transported on a commercial passenger bus bound for Ayamfuri in the central region.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Cephas Arthur, who spoke to the media on behalf of the Command, disclosed that the interception occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2026, during routine security checks at the barrier.

ACP Arthur said a thorough search conducted on a red OA Kia Grandbird bus uncovered two sealed brown boxes containing 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 250mg tramadol—commonly referred to as “Red” and 58 packs of 225mg tapentadol, popularly known as “Royal.”

The GH¢50,000 has since been retained as evidential material to support further investigations and prosecution.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities within its jurisdiction.

The Command cautioned individuals involved in illicit trade to desist, stressing that the region remained resolute and vigilant in safeguarding communities against the dangers posed by illegal drug circulation.

“Let me be clear, to both students and particularly to parents, students should be informed and they should know that we will not tolerate any acts of lawlessness and misconduct,” he said.

He said that parents must take responsibility for their children’s behaviour.

“Parents have a duty to ensure that their wards conduct themselves properly within the context of being in an academic environment. If they do not caution their wards and look the other way or they don’t pay attention to the conduct of their wards in school and the wards engage in acts of lawlessness or misconduct, they should expect the most severe sanctions to be meted out to them.”

According to the Deputy Minister, discipline in schools is essential to the country’s future.

“We need a disciplined society. We cannot build the Ghana we want, we cannot improve our conditions, we cannot think about a better future if our future leaders are allowed to become indisciplined citizens acting lawlessly and misconducting themselves,” he said.

“So it is for our collective good to ensure that our students at all levels are disciplined and they act within the context of lawfulness.”

Dr Apaak also referred to a previous incident at Kade Senior High School to show what he described as the government’s firm stance.

“In terms of the Kade case, that was a typical example of the current approach as far as the ministry and government are concerned in our aversion to acts of lawlessness and misconduct,” he said.

He recalled that a group of past and present students assaulted a teacher who had prevented them from cheating during the last WASSCE examination.

“One popular incident was when a number of students, past and present from Kade Senior High School, assaulted one of their teachers because he prevented them from cheating during the last WASSCE examination,” Dr Apaak said.

Although the teacher later made peace with the students through their families, the ministry insisted that the matter be pursued.

“Although the teacher had made peace with the students through the intervention of their families, we still insisted that the law ought to take its course,” he explained.

“Subsequently, the students were arrested and they were taken to court and they were found guilty, but I hear that part of the sanction was for them to pay some fines.”

Dr Apaak said the Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Haruna Iddrisu and with the backing of President John Mahama, would continue to act firmly.

“Let me put on record that the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Haruna Iddrisu and the direction of his Excellency the President would no longer tolerate acts of lawlessness and misconduct,” he said.

Police arrest 15 over alleged prostitution, human trafficking in Koforidua https://www.adomonline.com/police-arrest-15-over-alleged-prostitution-human-trafficking-in-koforidua/ Wed, 11 Feb 2026 06:33:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2629856 The Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region has arrested 15 persons, including 12 Nigerian nationals and a 15-year-old minor, over alleged involvement in human trafficking, operating a brothel and prostitution in Koforidua.

Among those arrested is a landlord accused of permitting the illegal activities to take place on his property.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged on Thursday, February 6, 2026, by a 30-year-old Nigerian commercial sex worker resident in Nsukwao, Koforidua.

Addressing the media, the New Juaben South Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, disclosed that the complainant accused her alleged mistress, identified as Christabel Simon Mobday, of trafficking her from Nigeria to Ghana for prostitution.

According to the police, the victim told investigators she had been instructed to make GH¢400 from prostitution but was only able to raise GH¢250. Her mistress and an alleged accomplice, Simon Kwarteng, reportedly rejected the amount and assaulted her for failing to meet the target.

Superintendent Nsiah said Christabel Simon Mobday was subsequently arrested at Debiasem, a suburb of New Juaben, following police investigations.

During a follow-up operation, officers uncovered a brothel allegedly being operated on a property owned by one Omari Gyamfi.

Twelve Nigerian females, including a 15-year-old minor, were found on the premises and are suspected to have been engaged in prostitution.

ASP Augustine Kusi Asante, Crime Officer for New Juaben South Municipality, stressed that it is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law for minors to engage in prostitution.

He further warned landlords within the municipality against renting out their properties for illegal activities, including prostitution.

Police have urged members of the public to report suspected cases of human trafficking, child abuse and related offences to the nearest police station, as investigations continue.

Man arrested for allegedly poisoning 4 friends in locked studio https://www.adomonline.com/man-arrested-for-allegedly-poisoning-4-friends-in-locked-studio/ Mon, 09 Feb 2026 09:59:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2629063 The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a gospel artiste, Matthew Ogundele, popularly known as Segun Praise, and three members of his crew, who were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos.

The other victims were identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya and a blogger, Matthew Awosanya, also known as JoesTv.

The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, stating that the suspect — identified as the organiser of the event where the victims were billed to perform — is currently in police custody.

“The incident was initially reported at the Ajah Division but was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing while we await the autopsy report,” she said.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims had been invited to minister on Tuesday, the second day of a three-day virtual birthday praise programme organised by a female gospel artiste, Olanireti Akinbola.

A police source had told our correspondent in confidence on Saturday that the session extended late into the night, prompting the artistes to spend the night at the studio. Their lifeless bodies were discovered the following morning.

“The convener invited some gospel artistes to minister during her three-day birthday praise, which started on Monday. Segun Praise came with his crew. The programme ended late, so they decided to sleep in the studio. It was the next morning that their bodies were found,” the source said.

A Christian blog, Omojesu, also claimed in a Facebook post that the victims stayed back because the studio was far from their homes.

The tragedy has since sparked outrage online, with colleagues and friends demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

While the exact cause of death remains unknown, speculations have ranged from inhalation of generator fumes to possible food poisoning.

Adebisi said the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola — who is also the husband of the celebrant — reported the incident to the police on Wednesday.Related News

According to her, he told investigators that he bought food for the artistes on Tuesday night and left them in the studio located inside the HFP Shopping Complex before going home.

“He said the artistes returned to the studio with the food while he left. At about 11am on Wednesday, he came back and found the door locked from the inside. He called for help, and the door was forced open. On entering, the lifeless bodies of the four artistes were discovered,” Adebisi explained.

She added that detectives who visited the scene found no marks of violence on the bodies.

“The corpses were taken to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, where a doctor confirmed them dead. The bodies have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation,” she said.

Meanwhile, some associates of the victims alleged that the celebrant had gone into hiding, noting that her husband was the one currently in custody.

One of their colleagues, who requested anonymity, said, “Olanireti invited them, but since the incident happened, she has refused to speak. Her social media accounts are now private. The husband is the one with the police.”

In an emotional video circulating on social media, the mother of one of the victims, Matthew, appealed for justice, describing the deaths as painful and suspicious.

“Nigerians, please help me. Matthew went to a show. They left on Tuesday. There were four of them. When we got to the venue in Ajah, we couldn’t find them. We kept calling their phones, but no response,” she said tearfully.

“We later found their corpses. Please, don’t let me suffer in vain. I don’t know what they gave them to eat. The four of them who slept in that studio died.”

Incidents of sudden deaths in enclosed spaces have been reported across the country in recent years, often linked to generator fumes, poor ventilation or faulty electrical equipment.

According to a statement issued by the Senator’s camp, Ms. Izuegbu was arrested following investigations into claims that she facilitated an alleged illegal abortion involving Regina Daniels during her marriage to Senator Nwoko.

The statement maintained that the alleged act was unlawful and insisted that the incident is on record, despite what it described as attempts to dispute the timeline of events.

It further alleged that Ms. Izuegbu played a direct role in the incident, which it said forms part of ongoing law enforcement investigations. However, no official charge sheet has been made public as at the time of filing this report.

Beyond the abortion allegations, the Senator’s camp said the arrest is also connected to claims of criminal defamation.

Ms. Izuegbu is accused of making public statements alleging that Senator Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Mrs. Laila Nwoko, resulting in a miscarriage. The Senator has described these allegations as false, reckless, and unsupported by evidence.

The statement added that the arrest followed a recent social media post by Ms. Izuegbu in which she allegedly issued threats and repeated what the Senator’s camp described as defamatory claims against him and members of his family.

Senator Nwoko’s camp stressed that the matter is strictly a law enforcement issue and not a social media dispute, urging the public to allow investigations to take their course and to refrain from speculation.

As at the time of publication, neither Ms. Izuegbu nor her legal representatives had issued a response to the allegations.

The operation, coordinated across January 16th and 17th, 2026, was initiated by actionable intelligence from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).

The intel revealed that young men were allegedly being exploited and coerced into various cybercrimes by kingpins operating from residences in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba.

A joint force comprising operatives from National Security, the CSA, the CID Headquarters, and the Police SWAT unit executed coordinated raids on the identified locations. During the operations, authorities made a critical distinction between suspects and potential victims.

Nine (9) individuals were arrested as suspects, while forty-four (44) others, found operating laptops in their apartments, were categorized as rescued victims believed to have been lured under false pretences. A significant cache of equipment was seized, including 62 laptop computers, 52 assorted mobile phones, and two (2) pump-action guns.

“All the arrested individuals have been duly profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations,” stated Communications Minister Sam George in a post on January 18th detailing the operation.

He issued a stern caution: “We caution foreign nationals invited to Ghana to verify claims made by their fellow nationals to lure them here.”

The Minister highlighted that this crackdown is part of an ongoing effort, noting that some individuals from previous operations have already been handed over to Nigerian authorities at the Seme border, while others are facing criminal prosecution in Ghanaian courts.

“Protecting Ghana’s cyber image internationally is non-negotiable,” Minister George asserted, commending the CSA and partner law enforcement agencies for their work.
