The petition, filed by Amenorpe Philibert Fummey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, sought to annul Annoh-Dompreh’s election results.

However, the court dismissed the case on Thursday following a legal application by the Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo Esq.

Presiding Judge His Lordship Krofa Addae ruled that the petition lacked merit and upheld the declaration made by the Electoral Commission, affirming that the results accurately reflected the will of the constituents of Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

The court also imposed a cost of GH¢25,000 against the petitioner.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, the current Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, welcomed the ruling, calling it a clear validation of the electoral mandate and the trust the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri placed in him.

Addressing allegations of his involvement, Dompreh categorically denied any connection to the incident.

“I have never wielded a firearm in my life, and I have no involvement in this unfortunate incident. I trust the police to conduct a fair and thorough investigation to uncover the truth.”

Speaking at a press conference held at the Nsawam/Adoagyiri New Patriotic Party (NPP) office, he insisted that their internal party collation demonstrates his victory in the December 7, 2024, Parliamentary election.

“Based on the pink sheets from all 203 polling stations in the constituency, it is evident that the NPP won the election,” he asserted.

Mr. Dompreh also addressed allegations made by the opposition, urging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, to avoid spreading misinformation.

“Sammy Gyamfi must show maturity in politics. The lies and baseless accusations must stop,” he said.

He further appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to pause the transition process until all disputed parliamentary seats are officially declared.

“I humbly call on the President to ensure that the democratic process is upheld. Let the Electoral Commission do its work before proceeding with the transition,” he urged.

Additionally, he called on the president-elect to caution party members, saying, “I expect the president-elect to call his members to order to ensure peace and unity in the country.”

Meanwhile, a heavy security presence has been deployed in Nsawam to restore calm and safeguard lives and property.

The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annor Dompreh, disclosed this, stating a probe will be initiated to fish out the perpetrator.

“What are we doing to ourselves? How can you cut the face of your colleague MP? The cameras and footages are there and we will all get to know who did that. If we [Majority] are lying too we will find out, we will find out,” he disclosed on Accra-based Neat FM.

The Chief Whip, who doubles as the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, further alleged: “I was close to the action so I can give a vivid account. It was a deliberate attempt by some Minority MPs to hurt him and they succeeded.”

He explained he and his colleagues were devasted following the incident as the victim was bleeding and had to be rushed to the hospital.

According to him, the issue must not be swept under the carpet, urging all and sundry must watch the footage and condemn the act.

“We must name and shame the MP involved. Even if it is the Majority, we must do so because the path we are treading is disgusting and we need to do something about it,” he cautioned.

Some MPs on Monday night engaged in a fistfight following a disagreement during the voting on the government’s E-levy bill.

This was at a time the MPs were voting in a headcount to decide whether the bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency or not.

The Minority had attempted to stop the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who was presiding over the House, from leaving his seat and participating in the voting process.

This infuriated the Majority MPs, who met them at the Speaker’s table to challenge the National Democratic Congress MPs.

According to him, the Speaker must be able to come out and reveal the identity of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) who stayed after their walkout.

“If he was smart enough to know that one member of the Majority sat at the corner then he should as well be smart to identify that member otherwise he should stop wasting our ears,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

The Nsawam Adoagyiri MP has argued the assertion cannot be correct as they monitored the proceedings on screen after the walkout.

“Assuming without admitting what he said is correct then he should have revealed who sat at the corner and we will agree that one person has abstained. However, what he said was 137 against 0,” he fumed.

Prof Oquaye’s defeat was my first test in Parliament – Annor Dompreh https://www.adomonline.com/prof-oquayes-defeat-was-my-first-test-in-parliament-annor-dompreh/ Mon, 11 Jan 2021 18:47:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1903568 New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Chief Whip, Annor Dompreh, has described the defeat of Prof Mike Oquaye as his first test in Parliament.

According to the Chief Whip who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri, he was depressed at the turn out of events.

This is because the previous night before the Speakership election on January 7, all the MPs converged and vowed to go a particular direction which was a vote to retain Prof Oquaye.

“We had all decided on voting a particular direction and as a Chief Whip, I was hoping to get all my people in check but things did not go as expected and that was my first greatest test in the House,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he said he was in a state of shock and is still trying hard to come to terms with the development.

“I took a bold step to visit my brothers at the other side; Muntaka, Haruna Iddrisu and Ablakwa and I made them understand the need for us to come together and set something different,” he added.

Former MP for Nadowli Kaleo, Alban Sumana Bagbin of the National Democratic Congress, was duly elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

He won a chaotic, closely contested secret ballot in the Chamber of Parliament against former Speaker, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye.

One of the oldest serving MPs polled 138 votes against his predecessor’s 136 with one spoilt ballot in a long dragging process, which started at 12:am on Thursday, January 7 and delayed the swearing-in of the MPs-elect.

Peabo explosion: I made enemies in my own party – Annor Dompreh https://www.adomonline.com/peabo-explosion-made-enemies-party-annor-dompreh/ Wed, 11 Oct 2017 13:40:53 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=568491 The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh has revealed the fight for compensation for the victims of the Peabo explosion has not been rosy.

According to him, he is facing prosecution even from his own party because he is fighting to ensure those involved don’t go scot-free.

“I have suffered within my own party because of this matter. There are people who think that I’m making the new government popular” he stated on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Wednesday.

Almost two years after the incident, residents of Peabo most of whom were injured have not been compensated.

The blast from a quarry site belonging to A.K.Y Mining Services Limited along the Adeiso road occurred as a result of a naked fire getting into contact with ammonium dynamite.

The devastation caused many injuries while substantial properties were lost through the accident including a 38-year-old welder, Ibrahim Mohammed, who met his untimely death when he was caught in one of those explosions.

A Ministerial Committee set up to investigate the explosion recommended a ten-year ban on the operations of A.K.Y Mining Services Limited which is still operating and those indicted are still walking scot-free.

But the Nsawam Adoagyiri MP said he is not surprised about the delay in dealing with the culprits a year after the report.

He indicated that, it took divine intervention before he got a copy of the report completed under the erstwhile Mahama government.

Hon. Annor Dompreh also said people in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) think he is being disruptive to the cause of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“People think you are making the work of the president difficult because you are continuously raising this matter” he bemoaned.

This notwithstanding, Frank Annor Dompreh said he is been able to get the President to commit to assisting the victims of the disaster.

“It is as if you don’t have leaders in this country because nothing meaningful has been done for the victims. I have gained enemies even within my own party for insisting the right things be done” he bemoaned.
