The chaos erupted after the MP attempted to assert his role as a polling agent during the voting process but was met with strong resistance from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Regional Organizer, David Dakudzi, and local police.

Prior to the polls, reports indicated that Annoh-Dompreh had vowed to block the confirmation of Philibert Fumey Selorm, the MCE nominee, who had previously challenged him in the 2024 parliamentary elections—a contest that ended up in court.

As tensions escalated inside the assembly hall, clashes broke out between supporters of the nominee and the MP, with the situation remaining volatile until the final vote was cast.

Following the voting, police officers formed a security cordon around the counting center where Electoral Commission officials tallied the ballots. The nominee secured confirmation with 29 out of 38 votes.

However, the announcement further enraged NDC supporters, who demanded that Annoh-Dompreh be released to them, shouting threats of retaliation. Police swiftly intervened, escorting the MP to the municipal NADMO office under heavy security as angry protesters gave chase.

The incident comes just weeks after a Koforidua High Court dismissed an election petition challenging Annoh-Dompreh’s 2024 parliamentary victory. The case, which sought to nullify his win, was struck out following a legal application filed by Gary Nimako Marfo, the New Patriotic Party’s Director of Legal Affairs.

The standoff highlights deepening political divisions in the constituency, raising concerns over future governance and security in the area.

The group accused the MP of inciting violence by allegedly urging New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters to attack NDC members.

According to them, his actions have heightened political tensions in the area ahead of the December 7 elections.

Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesperson Nana Kwame Okyere criticized the MP’s conduct, describing it as unbecoming of a lawmaker.

“Our MP is supposed to set a good example, but instead, he is promoting division. We urge him to shift his focus from inciting his supporters to completing the many unfinished projects in the constituency,” Okyere stated.

He highlighted several incomplete projects, including roadworks, community centers, and school infrastructure, which he said were left halfway after being launched with fanfare last year.

The NDC members also questioned the MP’s declaration of victory with a 210-vote margin based on provisional Electoral Commission (EC) results. The group insists that the results were manipulated and have pledged to challenge them in court.

“We will not sit back while our community is neglected. We expect development, not distractions,” Okyere added.

The call for Mr. Annoh-Dompreh to focus on development comes as tensions continue to rise in the constituency.

The NDC maintains that peace can only be restored if the MP abandons divisive tactics and fulfills his mandate to the people.

Annoh-Dompreh, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, called on his party members last week to strongly oppose the NDC, particularly in relation to the disputed Ablekuma North parliamentary election.

The NIB questioned him as part of an investigation into the motive behind his allegedly inciteful remarks. JoyNews understands that the MP visited the NIB office to respond to the inquiry.

The Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, encouraged members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support their fellow party members in all political situations.

He stated that no NPP member should hesitate to defend another if they are in trouble.

He made the comment during a visit to the residence of the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, on Thursday, February 6.

Annoh-Dompreh had urged NPP supporters in Ablekuma North to stand by their party members in confrontations with the NDC.

Speaking at a gathering of NPP supporters during a visit by the party’s parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, Annoh-Dompreh stated, “If indeed you are a member of the NPP and you go to meet your fellow party member fighting a member of the NDC, join your party member to beat the NDC member.”

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP accused the NDC of deliberately obstructing the Electoral Commission (EC) from completing the collation process and warned that the NPP would not tolerate further delays.

In an interview on Channel One Newsroom, Ahiagbah emphasized the need for stakeholders, including the government, to address the root causes of the ongoing election disputes.

“This whole election in Ablekuma North is a problem, and I think it should be a priority for all of us, including the president, because the EC has requested government support to provide security for the collation and conclusion of the election.”

He argued that the focus should be on the disruptions rather than Annoh-Dompreh’s remarks.

“Why haven’t we concluded that election? It’s because NDC supporters in the constituency are disrupting the process. The IGP is not doing what he is supposed to do, as directed by the High Court, to provide security for the election to be concluded. Those, for me, are the key issues.”

Ahiagbah also pointed to a January 17 incident where NDC supporters, led by their Greater Accra Regional Organiser, disrupted and vandalized property at the EC regional office.

“Why are we not talking about that? That’s the actual violence. These are the effects of those actions. I don’t think we should be promoting violence, but we should be solving the problem.”

He maintained that resolving the root issues would prevent such remarks from being made in the first place.

“If we solve the problem, he won’t hold a mic to say what he is saying. That is not to justify his comments, but why don’t we solve the problem?”

He charged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stand by their party members in confrontations with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“If the NDC, led by Mahama Ayariga, does not act reasonably and continues to prevent the EC from completing the collation, they will never know peace in Parliament,” he added.

He also called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, to intervene decisively against what he described as the NDC’s disruptive tactics.

“If the IGP also decides to look on unconcerned and allow these people to continue like this, we will continue to demonstrate,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh warned.

As the people of Ablekuma North await the official declaration from the EC, both the NPP and NDC candidates have mounted ‘thank you’ billboards in the area, each claiming victory.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the Minority Chief Whip emphasized that his decision to run was not driven by greed but by a desire to serve and leverage his experience for the benefit of his constituents.

“I will contest again in 2028. It’s not because I am greedy, but because I believe my experience in Parliament is valuable,” he said.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is going through a difficult period, and experienced lawmakers like himself must help rebuild and refocus the party.

“This is a difficult time for the party, and with the experience I have gathered in my four terms, we need to focus on what didn’t go well and do better next time,” he stated.

Annoh-Dompreh expressed confidence that his constituents still support him, noting that he has unfinished business in Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

“I am confident the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri still love me as their MP. I believe the love is deep, and I am ready to continue working for them,” he added.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh strongly denied any involvement in a shooting incident in Nsawam last year that left one person hospitalized.

He insisted that he has never wielded a firearm and urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation.

“I have never shot a gun before. The soldiers who were protecting me only fired warning shots to disperse the crowd,” he stated.

Recalling the tense moments, he alleged that his opponents had orchestrated an attack to unseat him.

“They threw a stone at my car gate, and if not for God’s intervention, it would have hit me. The soldiers had to run for their lives,” he recounted.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of planning the chaos in an attempt to take his parliamentary seat.

“It was a well-rehearsed plan by the NDC, targeted at snatching my seat. But I stood my ground and emerged victorious,” he asserted.

Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in the legitimacy of his victory.

“In the midst of all the attacks, I won. My savior was my pink sheet,” he said, referring to the electoral results sheet.

He further noted that although the NDC has taken the matter to court, he and his legal team have yet to be officially served with their petition.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh secured 29,640 votes, defeating his closest contender, Fummey Philibert of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 29,433 votes—a slim margin of 207 votes.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the Minority Chief Whip admitted he did not expect the race to be so close.

“People kept telling me I had already won, so we didn’t expect the margin to be this close,” he said.

According to him, internal party challenges played a major role in the NPP’s overall poor performance.

“There were internal and external issues, and we struggled to win most of our seats. I’m still trying to understand why this happened, and I will look forward to finding the reasoning behind it,” he stated.

He added that during the campaign, he focused primarily on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid but later realized the NDC had a more effective strategy.

“We did our research and realized that NDC supporters were focused on Mahama. They turned out in large numbers, but in our strongholds, turnout was low—just about 50,000 plus. If we had more of our people coming out to vote, I would have won comfortably,” he noted.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh believes the party must analyze these issues to prevent a repeat in future elections.

Adoagyiri residents demand apology from Hardcastle over remarks against Annoh-Dompreh

The residents described Ms. Hardcastle’s comments during a public altercation with the MP as unfortunate and disrespectful.

The heated exchange took place on January 28 during a recess in the Parliamentary Appointments Committee proceedings, where Hardcastle referred to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus as a “Micro-Minority.” This led to a confrontation with Annoh-Dompreh.

Although Hardcastle has since apologized to the House of Parliament, residents of Adoagyiri-Nsawam, particularly women, are insisting that she must directly apologize to their MP and the community.

They argue that public officials must uphold respect and decorum in their interactions with elected representatives.

The women remain firm in their demand for a direct and unconditional apology to Annoh-Dompreh and the people of Adoagyiri-Nsawam, stressing that accountability and mutual respect must be prioritized in public service.

“I won’t allow her to have her way. Whatever she has to do to apologise to Parliament, she must. She cannot sit down and denigrate Parliament,” he said.

This follows a heated exchange that ensued between them during the vetting of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister-Designate for Defence, when the Appointments Committee took a brief recess.

During this break, a verbal altercation, a video from which has gone viral occurred between Annoh-Dompreh and Madam Hardcastle.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP claimed that as he was leaving the room, Madam Hardcastle made remarks such as, “You are threatening me that you are taking me on because who are you? What do you mean by taking me on? You are a micro-minority. Doesn’t Afenyo-Markin himself use that phrase? I don’t have time for that. You think you can bully me here?”

But Mr. Annoh-Dompreh in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, responded firmly that he would take her on, stressing the seriousness of the exchange.

“I didn’t insult her. But I won’t let her denigrate the Parliament of Ghana. If I had acted that way towards her as a respected lawyer, I would have been condemned, and I won’t condone such behaviour from her.

“The world is round, and people should understand that. I believe she had already made up her mind to confront me even before she left home. I’m shocked that a woman would verbally abuse a man. This is something that should not be tolerated,” Annoh-Dompreh clarified.

The lawmaker acknowledged that the verbal exchange might have stemmed from comments he made in Parliament, which possibly angered Hardcastle.

Annoh-Dompreh also stressed that he did not provoke Hardcastle and is carefully considering how to proceed.

“I’m convinced my statements in Parliament triggered her reaction. I am thinking through the process very carefully. I will exhaust all internal arrangements within Parliament, and after that, we will decide the way forward, or not,” he stated.

While expressing his concerns, he said he was leaving the matter to the Speaker of Parliament, who had promised to settle it.

He added, “I know that history will judge us. I have been quiet, waiting to see how this unfolds. But I won’t allow this matter to die. We will go through the full cycle of the process to ensure the right thing is done.”

Expressing his gratitude and excitement, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh described the victory as “sweet,” emphasizing that it reflects the true will of the people of Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

Background

The Electoral Commission undertook the re-collation and declaration of results for nine constituencies following a directive from the Accra High Court. The re-collation addresses disputes in constituencies such as Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), as well as Techiman South (Bono East Region).

The court ordered the EC to finalize the collation process and declare winners in accordance with electoral laws. It also mandated the Inspector-General of Police to provide adequate security at the collation centres.

The exercise, conducted under heavy police and military presence, continues at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, with results from other constituencies expected shortly.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Amenorpe Philbert Fummey, has sued the Electoral Commission (EC) seeking a fresh election in the constituency.

Mr. Osei Akoto criticized Annoh-Dompreh for what he referred to as “misbehaviour,” advising him to address his grievances through the proper legal channels.

He said the NDC itself is still contesting some of the parliamentary outcomes from the 2020 general elections in court.

In a social media post on December 12, 2024, Osei Akoto stated, “Annoh-Dompreh should stop misbehaving and go to court.

The NDC is still in court over seats that were stolen from us in 2020. If you believe your rights have been infringed upon, go to court. We cannot halt the transition because you lost your seat. Nsawam-Adoagyiri or Ghana does not belong to you.”

This comes amidst disputes over the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on the other hand, has called for the suspension of the ongoing transition process.

In a press conference on December 11, 2024, he requested that the process be paused until the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the results for certain constituencies.

He emphasized that ensuring all results are declared will guarantee a credible and trustworthy transition process, free from allegations of fraud.

“The EC has made it clear that it needs a security platform to declare the results. I appeal to President Akufo-Addo to halt the transition process until all outstanding seats are declared. Similarly, President-Elect Mahama should speak to his supporters to allow the EC to do its job,” Annoh-Dompreh said.

The EC is set to re-collate results from several constituencies, including Akwatia and Nsawam-Adoagyiri.

Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, December 11 met with President-elect John Mahama at the Jubilee House to commence the transition process.

However, the process according to him must be on hold until all disputed seats in the just-ended election are resolved.

The Majority Chief Whip made the appeal while addressing NPP supporters as his seat among others is still being contended.

Nsawam-Adoagyiri is one of the many constituencies whose collation of results in the December 7 elections was marred with violence.

“The President has initiated the transition process, but we plead with you to suspend it until the Electoral Commission officially declares the results for the four constituencies.

“The transition must be halted immediately until all disputed seats are resolved. Until then, no transition,” he appealed.

He added that, these constituencies were won by the NPP in the keen contest but there are  attempts to challenge the outcomes.

He asserted that if Akufo-Addo does not suspend the process, it could create an impression of neglecting the NPP’s interest.

The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, made the allegations, raising concerns about the tendency of Mr Annoh-Dompreh’s act to cause chaos.

The Adaklu MP had alleged that, Parliament’s security granted an unauthorised entry to his colleague when access was officially to start at 8 am.

However, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP has fought off the claims, insisting his entry was through regular means.

According to him, he is one of the MPs who always arrive early for proceedings and his arrival on Tuesday was not out of the ordinary.

“I come to Parliament early, and I went to the Chamber. I was sitting there when they told me that they wanted to sweep the place, so I came out to stand here,” he explained to Accra-based Citi News.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh cautioned his colleague against making such allegations.

“There are lessons I need to teach him, he has to learn. He should be careful when making allegations. It is my duty to be sure everything is well. There are so many ways to kill the cat. We will do anything and everything to make sure that they do not walk over us,” he stated.

This according to him was in the early hours of Tuesday, October 22, ahead of the day’s proceedings.

Mr Agbodza explained that, the move violates official protocols as access to the Chamber officially began at 08:00 am.

During Monday’s session in Parliament, the Minority caucus raised dissatisfaction with Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s remark concerning the selection of  Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Former President Mahama’s running mate for the 2024 elections.

He asked the Minority in Parliament not to launch a campaign against New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislators for being anti-women in response to Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s remark about former President John Dramanai Mahama’s running mate.

Afenyo-Markin believes her appointment reflected a lack of succession planning and visionary leadership within the NDC.

The Minority caucus demanded him to withdraw the comment, but he initially refused, disrupting the debate over the President’s State of the Nation speech.

The Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako had to suspend proceedings for a while to allow matters to settle.

Mr Afenyo-Markin however withdrew his statement, saying, “Colleagues expressed a concern about the issue of age. Mr Speaker, the submission was to the effect that our opponents don’t have a clear succession plan for the future [and] not to denigrate their running mate based on age. So I withdraw that aspect of the submission that referred to her age as the basis of my contention.”

Addressing the press in Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh said “In our standing orders if somebody said something that is impugning a wrong motive you have the right to rise up at where you are and take the person on.

“Our colleagues should learn how to be tolerant, they should up their sense of tolerance. When Ato Forson and co were speaking, assuming without admitting that the Majority Leader had said something that borders on personal attacks on Prof Opoku-Agyemang, that is not how to go about it but we will be kind enough, that is how democratic we are, we always show the way.

“If it is the case that the mention of Prof and her age is their problem we will depart from there but the fact will be told, the story will be told, and the abysmal performance of John Mahama and their administration we will continue to expose that. Let nobody begin any crusade that we went on a viral attack on womanhood, that we will never do.”

Mr Annoh-Dompreh, who doubles as Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP expressed his grief in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a brief tribute to the late Minister who was also Ejisu MP, the Chief Whip wrote “Rest well, bro… I am devastated.”

Dr Kumah’s unexpected demise on Thursday afternoon came as a shock to Ghanaians.

He is said to have died at Suhum on his way to Accra to be airlifted for medical attention in Germany.

His remains have been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The deceased who was also a lawyer was survived by his wife, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and their six children.

He was 45.

During their university days, Annoh-Dompreh revealed that Haruna Iddrisu, who was once the NUGS president and senior to him by three years, made persistent efforts to bring him into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to their close bond.

“Haruna was my friend long before my parliamentary days. He was once a NUGS president and had a three-year lead over me. I also later became the NUGS president, creating a strong bond between us. Despite his efforts to bring me into the NDC, my family’s political roots are with the UP (United Party), and I have deep respect for the NDC,” he explained during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.

Despite Haruna Iddrisu’s attempts, Annoh-Dompreh, who is currently seeking a fourth term in office, remained steadfastly loyal to his political upbringing.

In his perspective, he emphasized that his colleagues have played a pivotal role in shaping his political journey.

Over 200,000 delegates from across the country are expected to participate in the elections scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The exercise, which will elect a flagbearer to represent the party in the 2024 general elections, will take place in every constituency across all 16 regions of the country.

While expressing optimism about the victory of Dr. Bawumia as the flagbearer of the NPP in an interview, the legislator said: “We know it is a foregone decision, Dr Bawumia is going to win hands down. It used to be around 80 percent. Now it’s moved higher. We are now doing like 95 percent of MPs who clearly believe that we should rally behind the Vice President. We are now hovering around 95 percent. It will even get better on the D-Day, and I think it’s looking extremely good. Our focus now is to ensure that after Saturday, we progress into a united front,” the Nsawam Adoagyiri MP said.

The NPP is gearing up for its presidential primaries on Saturday, November 4.

The four aspirants contesting the flagbearer position have signed an undertaking not to resign from the party if any of them loses the primary on Saturday.

The decision was reached at a meeting between the National Council of Elders and the aspirants.

Dr. Bawumia is the frontrunner in the race, but he faces stiff competition from Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

A recent poll by the Institute of Research, Innovation & Development at Kumasi Technical University found that Bawumia stands a greater chance of winning the upcoming NPP flagbearer race, as he will most likely secure an overwhelming victory in eight regions.

The poll found that 71.1% of NPP delegates believe Bawumia has a higher chance of breaking the eight-year cycle, while 26.8% of them stated that Kennedy Agyapong stands a better chance.

The other two contestants include the former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

According to him, government business is suffering and the House cannot continue to wait for the Minority.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP made these remarks on Tuesday when the caucus for the fourth time abstained from their constitutional duty to accompany Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson to court.

The MP on July 4, 2023, after the Minority declared their intention stated that it is a disgraceful posture for lawmakers to shirk their responsibilities in the House.

The Majority Chief Whip emphasised that regardless of the Minority’s decision to boycott Parliament on the trial days, the business of government would proceed as usual.

However, the House on three occasions had to adjourn sitting due to the Minority’s absence which affected the numbers for parliamentary business.

But on Tuesday, the Majority decided to proceed with the day’s business despite the absence of the Minority.

Although the House fell short of considering much weightier business-like bills, it was a significant turn from the past when it just adjourned the House whenever the NDC group abstained from sitting.

Ghana goes to the polls in 2024 to elect a new president.

Despite the NPP’s guidelines directing members to refrain from openly endorsing any flagbearer aspirants, Mr Annoh-Dompreh believes in Dr Bawumia’s competence as a key factor in his endorsement.

The Majority Chief Whip believes that Dr Bawumia’s competence is evident, as he has the ability to counter the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) support in the Zongo communities and strengthen the party’s backing in the northern regions.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh remains resolute, asserting that his support for Bawumia will persist, even if others claim he is no longer aligned with the NPP.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh confidently states that Dr Bawumia is the only candidate capable of defeating John Dramani Mahama in the northern regions.

He, thus, does not shy away from revealing that out of the 138 Members of Parliament (MPs) on the majority side, 120 are in support of Dr Bawumia’s candidacy.

During an interview on Accra FM on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Mr Annoh-Dompreh, who represents the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region, openly challenged the National Council of the party.

This took place following the grounding-breaking ceremony for the construction of a modern toilet facility for students of Old Tieku M. A. Basic School in the Nsawam Municipality on Monday, June 19, 2023.

Mr Annoh-Dompreh also highlighted the historical significance of the NPP, being founded by S.D. Dombo, and asserted that Dr Bawumia represents the Dombo tradition within the party.

Also, Mr Annoh-Dompreh suggested that it is time for the NPP to demonstrate its departure from being perceived as an Akan-centric party by having Dr Bawumia as its leader.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh said the Police failed in executing its basic mandate.

The Nsawam Adoagyiri lawmaker, thus, wants the Police Administration to do more in training its personnel on crowd management.

“Just as we love and respect the Police to deal with such matters and particularly ensuring public orderliness, the Police should up their professional antics and tactics in the handling of such ‘infantile’ challenges…,” he said in a tweet on Monday, June 13.

Meanwhile, the Police have admitted that its personnel could have handled the riot better.

Speaking at Peace talks Get-Together meeting held at his residence at Doboro, with the constituency executives and the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Isaac Buabeng, the Majority Chief Whip called on them to bury their differences and work together to develop the party.

The MP, who is eager to ensure total peace in the ruling political party in the constituency, urged them to unite and work hard to retain the party in power come 2024.
He also declared to give his full support and work with the MCE to speed up development in the constituency and be able to gather more votes for the party.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, however, entreated the general public to support the NPP to break the eight years agenda since the opposition NDC are the brainwashers who are set to abrogate every NPP flagship programme initiated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as they cancelled Teachers, Nurses allowances and Health Insurance Scheme.

The Deputy Majority Chief Whip and MP for Ayawaso Wuogun West, Lydia Alhassan Eyram, who joined the peace talks, urged the party executives to unite and rally behind the NPP government since they are working assiduously to accelerate socio-economic development across the country.

She was however optimistic that the restoration of peace in the Constituency will boost the party’s chances in 2024.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Buabeng also promised his support for the MP, adding that unity is only one thing that will lead the party to climb the ladder to break the eight years jinx.

However, he urged the supporters to refrain from divisive tendencies and forge together for peace and unity to ensure rapid development.

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said calls for probe into late former President Mills’ death is a total waste of resources of Parliament.

According to him, there is nothing mysterious about the death of the former President for a bi-partisan investigations.

Four New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of Parliament, led by Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, have filed a Private Member’s motion calling for a bi-partisan investigation into the death of the late President’s death.

The group wants Parliament to constitute a committee “to unravel the unending mystery surrounding the death of late President Mills which sad event occurred on July 24, 2012.”

This has generated a lot of controversial comments with members of both NDC and NPP splitting heads.

While the NDC argues that it is a ploy by government to divert attention, the NPP maintained that, the probe will bring closure to the circumstances surrounding the death of the former President.

Reacting to this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Mr Nketia said the MPs are just being disingenuous.

He explained that, the cause of death of the late Mills is public record, thus, the probe is an exercise in futility.

The NDC scribe, popularly known as General Mosquito, stated unequivocally that, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin will ignore it.

This, he said, is because the motion does not meet the criteria for the motion of a bi-partisan committee in Parliament.

“What is the mystery they are trying to unravel? Matters like this may not go beyond the Speaker’s office. We don’t use lies and speculation to conduct business in Parliament,” he stressed.

The NDC General Secretary is convinced the supposed probe is an attempt to divert attention of the nation away from burning issues on national agenda.

General Mosquito added that until they give further and better particulars on the mystery they are talking about, the motion will not be approved.

According to him, the party has held the position that Joe Gyakye Quayson was not validly elected and questioned his presence in Parliament. They also had issues with the decision of the Minority to support Mr Quayson to partake in decision-making in the House.

“So, today we have been vindicated because from day one, we had made our point abundantly clear, that the member was invalidly elected and lo and behold, a court has come to make a ruling.

“Even before we were sworn in to be part of the 8th Parliament, we as members of the Majority had raised issues of eligibility, related to the Assin North Member of Parliament elect then,” Mr Annoh-Dompreh told the media at a press conference held in Parliament, Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a Cape Coast High Court cancelled the parliamentary results for the Assin North constituency in the 2020 Parliamentary Elections in the constituency.

The Court, presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye, ordered for fresh elections to be conducted in the constituency.

The case of the petitioner was that the MP at the time of filing to contest the 2020 Parliamentary Elections, had not renounced his Canadian citizenship and thus held dual nationality.

He further avers that at the close of nominations on the 9th of October, the Assin MP had not still renounced his Canadian nationality.

He said Mr Quayson, who still holds himself as the MP, is in complete violation of Article 94 (2a) and the court should declare his election null and void.
