Some angry Muslim youth in Yeji in the Bono East Region have stormed the Yeji Hospital to demand the body of their colleague who was shot dead in his shop Sunday night around 11 pm.

The youth, numbering about 600, have massed up at the hospital’s morgue to ensure that their colleague who was killed by armed robbers is buried immediately in accordance with Muslim tradition.

The Zongo Chief of the area, Selky Adams, in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday said when the incident happened on Sunday night, they were given a letter by the medical doctor to be given to the police to facilitate the process.

He said the money was expected to be given to the Police on Tuesday but since they have no money, they have decided to mass up at the hospital and pray for their dead brother.

“As our custom demands, when our brother was shot and killed on Sunday night, he was rushed to the hospital but we were later told by the police to go and bring 30 million for autopsy report.”

Who are the 80% – DKM customers question Finance Minister’s refund claim [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/who-are-the-80-dkm-customers-question-finance-ministers-refund-claim-audio/ Fri, 16 Nov 2018 12:45:50 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1484961

The customers of the liquidated deposit-taking institution, DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited, have expressed shock at claims by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta that the deposits of 80% of customers have been refunded.

Spokesperson of the aggrieved customers, James Sarfo Baffoe, said President Akufo-Addo and his finance minister are only using their plight for political capital but have failed to come to their aid.

READ ALSO: A-G presents ‘evidence’ of Woyome’s ownership of properties

He insists the 80 percent claim by the Minister during the 2019 budget were false, adding that they have only paid about 20-30% of those affected.

“I have met with people from Brong Ahafo and other parts of the country who have told me their monies have not been paid so all they are saying are lies. They are just information on paper being read to us. The government has only paid just about 20-30% and not the figure they have given.

“They deceived people about the payment and took people’s documents from them hence they can’t get their monies because they have no proof,” Mr Baffoe said on Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta had claimed in his 2019 Budget and Economic Policy presented to Parliament, Thursday, 15 November 2018, that the official liquidator, the Registrar General’s Department, received 99,858 claims out of which it validated 79,708 and paid out GHC502 million.

He said: “…Government has also taken steps to settle all claims of DKM customers. Mr Speaker, you would recall that DKM Diamond Microfinance Limited had its license revoked in February 2016 with considerable suffering imposed on depositors without any meaningful response from the previous government, that has significantly changed, Mr Speaker

“The official liquidator received 99,858 claims and the validated claims amounted to 502 million Ghana cedis. I will like to inform the country that, out of the 99,858 claims 79,708 – 80% have been settled and depositors have been paid.”

But Mr Sarfo Baffoe expressed disappointment in the Finance Minister over the payment claims, daring him to provide the list of the affected customers whom the monies were paid to.

According to him, if the Government fails to provide the list, they will have no option than to stage a demonstration to show that they have not received their locked up investment.

The Adontenhene of Sienchiem near Goaso, Nana Kofi Gyasi has threatened to invoke curses on President Akufo-Addo and COCOBOD for failing to increase cocoa producer price for 2018/2019 crop season.

COCOBOD has announced that the Producer Price of cocoa for the 2018/2019 cocoa season will remain at GHC 475 per a 65kg bag, despite the fall in the commodity’s price on the international market.

READ ALSO: Why producer price of cocoa remains unchanged – COCOBOD explains

This means the industry regulator will be buying a tonne of cocoa beans for GH¢7,600 from cocoa farmers for the 2018/2019 crop year; same as it did for the just-ended crop season.

According to COCOBOD, the decision was the only laudable alternative since Ghana is the only country, out of the 22 cocoa producing countries, to have maintained its producer price despite the decline in the FOB price.

But the chief who is also a cocoa farmer accused the government of cheating cocoa farmers since it assumed office.

He told Adom News on the sideline of a press conference by the minority to register its displeasure on the cocoa prices that the government was being insensitive.

Nana Kofi Gyasi cautioned government to reverse the decision else he will pour libation to invoke the wrath of the gods on the president over his failed promises to cocoa farmers.

The Sienchiem chief, Nana Bofo Benin III who described the government’s posture as disappointing, said they will cut down their cocoa trees for rubber and palm plantations if the situation continues.

Aggrieved customers of gold trading company, Menzgold Ghana Limited, are threatening a mammoth demonstration at the Jubilee House.

Their threat follows Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) directive that the company halts with immediate effect, its gold trading activities.

A letter issued September 7, 2018, the Commission said it has found following investigations into Menzgold activities found that firm does not have the license to trade in gold collectables from the public.

The Commission further explained that it has interacted with representatives of Menzgold and has come to the conclusion that the aspect of Menzgold’s business which involved the purchase and deposit of gold collectables and guaranteed returns is a capital market activity under Act 929 without a valid license issued by it.

The statement added that subsequent requests have been made by SEC to Menzgold’s lawyers to furnish SEC with specific detailed information on the operations of the firm.

Management of the company appears unperturbed by the directive and has issued a statement assuring its clients that all is well.

Stammerers descend on Bagbin over ‘offensive comments’ [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/stammerers-descend-on-bagbin-over-offensive-comments-audio/ Thu, 23 Aug 2018 10:41:40 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1282781

The Ghana Stammering Association has described as unfortunate comments by a National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential aspirant, Alban Bagbin, that Dr Omane Boamah stammers and as a result, wasn’t fit for the job of a communications minister.

Mr. Bagbin is reported to have told party communicators in the Volta Region that former President John Mahama made a bad decision by appointing Dr Edward Omane Boamah as Communications Minister because he stammers.

READ ALSO

These are the comments he made:

If you are not whole can you be a chief or a queen mother? So when you form a government and make the Minister for Chieftaincy a blind person and the chiefs are objecting and you don’t change it, what are you telling the chiefs? These are facts I am stating. I have not added anything. You all know it but you may not have appreciated the impact of what happened. And when some of us are close and can foresee it and we see it, then you are somewhere and you are telling people to insult us.

“It is not a chief that speaks, it is a linguist. So if you are a leader you must have a very good linguist. When Prof [Evans Atta Mills] was in power, Haruna Iddrisu was our linguist – in charge of communication. When our brother John came to power, he substituted him for Dr Omane, who is a natural stammerer. Who is a natural stammerer. He is a very intelligent boy. Smart. But when he is speaking he wastes time in coming out. Ghanaians don’t have that much patience.”

But President of the Stammers Association, Elias Apraku has described Mr Bagbin’s comments as offensive and has, therefore, called on him to retract and apologise immediately.

According to him, stammering just distracts a person’s flow of speech but does not affect intellectual abilities and therefore Mr Bagbin cannot use it as a yardstick to judge one’s competence.

Stammerers are very angry and we see his comments as very unfortunate. Being a stammerer does not affect one’s intellectual abilities and so he should come again. He has really insulted us and must, therefore, retract and apologise to us,” he said on Accra based Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Elias Apraku noted that the attack on the former minister could only discourage many stammerers from going into politics and public service.

Angry school feeding caterers demand 5 years unpaid arrears [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/angry-school-feeding-caterers-demand-5-years-unpaid-arrears-video/ Fri, 03 Aug 2018 13:28:39 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=1244691

Some caterers who worked for five years at Kade Senior High School (KASSTECH) under the school feeding programme are demanding payment of arrears owed them by the government.

The caterers say they have worked for 5 years without pay, a situation they say has affected their families negatively because most of them are breadwinners.

The angry caterers, numbering about eight (8), besieged the studious of Adom FM to express their disappointments over the issue.

They told Dwaso Nsem host, Captain Smart, Friday, that not even the persistent voicing of their frustrations to the Ghana Education Service will make them fulfill their promise of paying them.

READ THESE STORIES

The caterers accuse the former Eastern Regional Director of GES, Getrude Mensah, of allegedly sabotaging them by failing to intervene when she knew the difficulties they were facing for so many years.

Leader of the caterers, Henry Kenneteh said the GES Director who is now retired rather recommended that they are transferred to other senior high schools in the region but failed to fulfil her promise of ensuring that their 5 years salary arrears are paid.

The GES Director in the region was fully aware of our challenges. She promised to talk to GES so we can be paid. We have, from 2013, not been paid and that has affected our families greatly”, he explained.

The only thing she did to help us was to connive with the teachers in Kade so we can be transferred,” he added.

According to the caterers, they had to rely on the Parents Teachers Association for a monthly payment  GHC 80.00 but even that, they had to write a letter before they got paid.

The caterers are calling on the government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene by paying their arrears.

Madam Gertrude Mensah who confirmed the development on the same show explained that when she realised that it was becoming difficult for the caterers to be paid their arrears, she advised that they are given new appointments but they refused, insisting on taking their arrears.

She said the idea of giving them new appointments was a way of regularising the recruitment process but that failed because the workers wouldn’t agree to that arrangement.

The caterers say though they have been transferred to other schools, they are still demanding their 5 years of arrears from the m government.

Thousands of households, shops and offices have been without electricity since the beginning of the week because of a systems failure at ECG.
People living in Accra West District classification of the ECG which includes Achimota, Kaneshie, Dansoman and Asylum down have formed long and winding queues at the offices of the power retailer in search of prepaid credits.
PURC, the industry regulator has been criticized for remaining silent since the problem began on Monday.
ECG officials say the problem was caused by some technical challenges their system is facing and have assured customers of a swift resolution of same.
But the PURC has given ECG up to Friday to fix the problems or face sanctions.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Maame Dufie Ofori speaking in an interview said the nation’s power distributor has 24 hours to bring the situation under control.
“As the regulator, it is not a matter of just accepting what the ECG stated as the reason. We have the mandate to investigate [and] we’ve started working on it. We are therefore calling for calm between the two parties because we are not happy about the development” she said on Accra based Neat fm.
Maame Dufie Ofori indicated that investigations have begun into the crisis and the ECG has been asked to explain to the commission why it should not be sanctioned.

How to stay mindful when kids are fighting https://www.adomonline.com/stay-mindful-kids-fighting/ Sat, 15 Jul 2017 12:45:31 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=298951 “It’s summer, and for many parents, that means the kids are home more than usual. Siblings can love each other fiercely and yet also fight ferociously — often within the same span of minutes. If they begin fighting, stay calm, loving and supportive. Use the experience as an opportunity to help them see each other’s perspective and choose a more mindful response in the face of conflict.” — Kaia Roman, author of “The Joy Plan.”

Remind yourself that conflict among siblings is normal, and even healthy. It’s how they learn to set boundaries, express desires and share not only property, but also experiences.
Take a deep breath and encourage your kids to do the same.
When the kids get settled, try a breathing exercise together: Inhale as you slowly, silently, count to four. Hold the breath to a count of four, then exhale slowly as you count to four. Then count to four before you inhale again. Repeat for a few minutes, and notice if you and the children feel differently at the end of this exercise.
Practice empathy. Try to understand why the kids are upset. With that in mind, see if you can avoid reacting too harshly or getting angry with them for fighting. Instead, try to help them understand each other’s emotions and perspective. Ask them if they can understand why the other one is upset.
Gratitude can be a powerful tool. No matter how annoying your kids are being right now, don’t forget what a precious gift they are. Ask them to say something nice about each other, too.
Turn up the music and start dancing. Mindfulness is all about bringing your attention to the present moment, including the sounds and sensations you can enjoy with your body. It’s hard for the children to fight when they’re dancing.
Kids are highly influenced by our responses. When we parents take challenges in stride, our children learn how to focus on solutions rather than feel crushed by problems.

She has been doing this for over a year now and it seems the fans are fed-up as a recent photo she posted of her babies fetched her backlash from angry fans instead of the usual priases.

An Instagram follower by username Uche_ashley wrote under the photo; “Maybe she’s waiting for her Mexican baby daddy to marry her first before she show there faces.cos she’s beens engaged for a decade now @iamnadiabuari”

And you prince whatever calling me for saying the truth.Privacy is privacy. He could go through comments to respond to my comment.”

“If is Not by force to show their face then of cos there is no point showing their backs we are beginning to think you have some thing hidden some where,Even black chyna showed Dreams face same day she had dream let as think enough of this unnecessary attention seeking,” Beebeyswiss said.

Maameabenaappiah also had this to say: “@mon_lisssa preach girl preach!!!the put their business out there and claim privacy…annoying set of ppl.”

Surely the fans have a point; what’s the point in always putting photos of your children on Instagram and yet hiding their faces each time?

3 ways to break the bonds of an abusive relationship https://www.adomonline.com/3-ways-break-bonds-abusive-relationship/ Wed, 22 Mar 2017 09:13:13 +0000 http://ghana-news.adomonline.com/new/?p=40131 you deserve better.

The combination of (non-professional) approaches I found to be most helpful for survivors to implement in the aftermath of narcissistic and psychopathic abuse are:

  1. No contact
  2. Detachment
  3. Support

Feeling deeply attached to a partner that has turned on you is one of the worst relationship spots to find yourself. Because to be in that position can make it extremely difficult to arrive at decisions that will be in your best interest. The brain will be more apt to make rationalizations when we are deeply connected to someone.

Let’s look at why these methods are helpful in teaching survivors how to leave an abusive relationship.

1. No contact

Through the process of love, our brain will have many chemical reactions, which take place automatically. Therefore, when we are trying to move past this type of abusive relationship, we can reduce the chances of the brain having those reactions (of bonding) by limiting the time around the person with pathological narcissism or psychopathy.

Their presence can intensely activate the emotional system of the brain, and sometimes, it can activate the regions that reduce our pain. This would be a problem because reducing pain could increase the bond with the abuser, making healing more difficult. It puts the survivor back at stage one.

Deciding to go “no contact” becomes an obstacle to that exposure. It gives the brain chemistry a chance to settle down. Once it is settled, it will be easier to have exposure to them (if necessary) without feeling intense neurochemical, bonding related reactions.

2. Detachment

Now, of course, full “no contact” is not possible for everyone. There are often co-parenting responsibilities, business involvement and so on. However, you can engage in detachment, even if “no contact” is not an option for you.

Detachment involves a conscious decision and full belief that you will not be a part of this relationship anymore. People who engage in detachment tell themselves that they will not be pulled into, fall for, or accept any of the nonsense (manipulation) that their partner knew worked on them in the past.

Practicing detachment is not easy in the early stages of ending an abusive relationship because it will require ignoring the emotional messages the brain is likely sending. For example, you may get an overwhelming feeling to check his social media; find out more about the new guy she is dating; text her; call him because you need closure; talk about him in forums. Those messages from the brain will be strong because they are coming from the deepest part of our being – and pathological narcissists/ psychopaths usually hurt others in egregious ways.

For detachment to work, two things are needed: 1) the willingness to tell yourself “no” when the desire to engage in certain behaviors (like those listed above) are strong, and 2) narcissism spectrum education.

Survivors will need to have an understanding of the pathological traits of their ex-partner. If you have the assumption that this guy/woman is like all other guys/women, then the tendency to believe all the horrible things they said about you is high (You’re too sensitive.” “You pushed me away” “You were too controlling.” “You’re crazy!”). These are very common statements from people who are incapable of accepting responsibility, mixed in with intentional manipulation to make someone else the bad guy.

Detachment from the person with a violating, abusive personality can happen even when you are in pain and required to have sporadic contact with the abuser. You can think of it as an internal “no contact.” You are protecting your emotions with a thought barrier. “I know exactly the kind of guy you are… you are not getting access to my precious emotions anymore!” (Said internally, of course.)This is why education regarding people who are on the narcissism spectrum becomes extremely valuable. Through education, even if your heart is still hurting, you can understand that the behaviors of someone with pathological narcissism and psychopathy are resistant to change. Intentional detachment involves using your education/information to make a pivot in thinking. It is no longer “us” — it is “you” and your sanity, safety, and future that must become most important.

3. Support

Oxytocin helps to ease anxiety and has a calming impact on the nervous system. It causes us to feel connected. Through connection, we feel stronger. Support is essential to have as a part of your healing — it helps to break the trauma bond.We all probably know that we need support in times of crisis and pain. But let me tell you what the brain does with support. It responds to love, compassion, and presence of kind people with the release of oxytocin.

Not all support is equal. The harsh, tough love type where you feel you have to defend why you are feeling sad and fragile will cause the brain to have a stress reaction, rather than a calming response. So please be mindful of the type of people you allow around you during this period.

It would be synonymous to getting an exfoliating treatment on your face that was recently burned in a fire. The skin is far too fragile and will be damaged by the harshness. The timing would be all wrong.
