Mr Jacobs made this assertion during an interview on Peace FM on Wednesday, October 23, following a series of events that have sparked a significant political standoff.

The controversy began on October 15, 2024, when the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, invoked Article 97(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution, questioning the status of four MPs.

Despite the Supreme Court staying Bagbin’s ruling, the NDC MPs have vowed to disregard the court’s decision, insisting they will only follow the directives of the Speaker of Parliament.

Reacting to this, Allotey Jacobs, now a social commentator and activist after his ousting from the NDC, criticised this defiance, warning that such actions threaten the stability of Ghana’s democracy.

He emphasised that, the decision by the Speaker to adjourn Parliament indefinitely on October 22 further deepens the political and legal confrontation between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC.

Mr Jacobs further stressed that the ongoing dispute, which involves two NPP MPs, one NDC MP, and one independent MP, could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s democratic processes, urging all parties to respect the rule of law and avoid plunging the nation into chaos.

“We were just there and we heard that they had invoked a certain article to declare four constituencies vacant but for me, my interpretation of what happened in Parliament last in the declaration of four seats as vacant was an act of parliamentary coup d’état led by Luitenant General Sumana Bagbin.”

“It was an act of coup d’état, and it won’t happen again because you can’t force yourself to take power when it is not yours. If you want the majority, go and do your campaign on the ground and come back to Parliament in 2025 and be the majority,” he stated.

According to him the partnership between NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) is “God-ordained”.

Mr Jacobs is certain the NPP will win the December 7 presidential election by 50.6 percent and will secure 142 Parliament seats.

“These two personalities are God-ordained, they will win the election by 50.6% and 142 MPs. It will shock the people of Ghana. They are unique and this Bawumia-Napo ticket is for Ghana, not just the NPP,” he added.

The NPP officially unveiled Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Allotey Jacobs defends Napo’s comparison of Akufo-Addo to Nkrumah [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/allotey-jacobs-defends-napos-comparison-of-akufo-addo-to-nkrumah-audio/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 11:17:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2420269 Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has mounted a spirited defence for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as Napo for comparing President Akufo-Addo’s achievements to those of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

According to him, Napo was speaking based on his ideological preference thus cannot be faulted.

“If you do the analysis, what Napo said was right. What they did to Nkrumah is what they are doing to Akufo-Addo. He has listened to the plight of Ghanaians and worked toward it, achieving results that every Ghanaian wants. People wanted free SHS to end, but it is still working. We should not castigate Napo,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

NAPO is being lampooned for claiming President Akufo-Addo has done more than Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president who has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he said during his unveiling as NPP running mate.

This comment is seen as a political gaffe which could affect the NPP’s chances in the December general elections.

But Mr. Jacobs who is a former Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) vehemently disagrees.

He said given the massive achievements of President Akufo-Addo, Ghanaians will retain the NPP in power.

President Akufo-Addo has “listened to the plight of Ghanaians, worked toward it and achieved results that every Ghanaian wants” Allotey Jacobs added.

I believe Alan will return to NPP if… – Allotey Jacobs  https://www.adomonline.com/i-believe-alan-will-return-to-npp-if-allotey-jacobs/ Fri, 21 Jun 2024 20:11:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2411819 Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs believes an apology from the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen will bring him back to the party.

In this regard, the former Central Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman has asked NPP bigwigs to render an apology.

Specifically, he said the NPP bigwigs must lead its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Barnard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi to render the apology.

“I will plead with the National officers of the NPP and some prominent elders in Ashanti Region to lead Bernard Antwi Boasiako to apologise to Alan and I believe when they apologise to him, the man will be back to the NPP,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Chairman Wontumi on September 26, 2023 directed all chairpersons in the 47 constituencies of the Ashanti Region to promptly remove all posters, banners, and other campaign materials of the Movement for Change leader.

This was on the back of his resignation from NPP and declaration to contest the 2024 election as an independent candidate.

Wontumi emphasised that, the promotional materials of Mr. Kyerematen no longer has relevance in the party offices.

Despite the mixed reactions the directive was met with, Wontumi maintained that, he was only doing his job.

But Mr Kyerematen who was not happy called Wontumi an ingrate.

He said he could not fathom why his ‘party ‘friend’ is working against him after helping him win the Regional Chairman position.

The much-anticipated ministerial reshuffle on February 14 saw the removal of Mr Ofori-Atta several months after calls for his dismissal.

The decision of President Akufo-Addo has come as a surprise to many political observers, given Ofori-Atta’s prominent role in the government.

However, the former Central Regional National Democratic Congress 9NDC) Chairman has said it will boast the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election because the desires of most people have been fulfilled.

“It is good for his government and the party, and it will change the perception that people do have about this government as well as the NPP.

“It will even, in a way, motivate the rank and file of the NPP members to make sure that they break the eight,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Adam Amin Anta, MP for Karaga and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry will replace Mr Ofori-Atta.

Allotey Jacobs sends message to political parties over district-level elections https://www.adomonline.com/allotey-jacobs-sends-message-to-political-parties-over-district-level-elections/ Fri, 22 Dec 2023 07:35:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2335640 Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has urged political parties not to underestimate the significance of the district Assembly elections.

The district Assembly elections, aimed at selecting Assembly and Unit Committee members, began on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. However, in certain electoral areas, the elections had to be rescheduled due to printing errors on the ballots.

According to a statement from the Electoral Commission, the affected areas will now vote on Thursday, December 21.

Despite the postponements, the district elections on Tuesday witnessed low turnouts, a trend attributed to the limited involvement of political parties. Critics argue that publicly politicizing the elections could generate more interest.

Although the district elections may seem apolitical, there are covert political influences behind the candidates. Proof of this is evident in a document circulating from the New Patriotic Party’s camp, indicating that the party’s affiliated members led the polls by 57.41 percent.

Speaking on Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs urged political parties to take the district-level elections seriously.

“These district Assembly elections, you might take them for granted, but they serve as an indicator for the 2024 elections. If you are going to lose, you will know” he emphasized.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM, he claimed some members of the Vice President’s campaign team are digressing from course.

“His [Bawumia] own people are spoiling things. They are saying certain things that can negatively affect his campaign,” he said.

Mr Jacobs however believed that Dr Bawumia can win the 2024 election if he remains focus.

“I’ll advice the Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to keep course and be focused. If he is able to approach the grassroots irrespective of their political affiliation, it will go well for him,” he noted.

He added that, Dr Bawumia must clear the air on some statements he made in the past to win back the trust of electorates.

“There were certain things he said in 2015 and 2016 before winning the election and during the Thank You tours that he needs to explain better. Ghanaians will understand because right now the propaganda has become too much,” he said.

Justice Atuguba, speaking at a public lecture on Tuesday, labeled the Supreme court’s decision in the Assin North legislator’s case as “scandalous.”

He argued that, the Supreme Court should not have taken on the case in the first place.

The renowned judge said the Apex Court went contrary to a basic law principle by adjudicating on a matter that had already been adjudicated by the High Court.

To him, the proper course of action for the Supreme Court should have been to execute the High Court’s decision rather than initiate a new trial.

Justice Atuguba added that the Supreme Court failed to deliver justice when it nullified Mr. Quayson’s election when the MP had clearly renounced his Canadian citizenship in November 2020 ahead of the December polls.

Reacting to these comments, Allotey Jacobs could not fathom why a man of high repute and someone who has gained popularity as a “no-nonsense man” in the law fraternity would make such statements.

He wondered if Mr. Atuguba had ulterior motives for passing such comments.

The former NPP Chairman asked whether is former Supreme Court judge is making such comment just to catch the eye of NDC flagbearer, John Mahama to make him running mate.

“Does he [Atuguba] want to be a running mate to the leading opposition flagbearer?”, he quizzed on Accra-based Peace FM.

Any political party that claims EC wants to rig elections is weak – Allotey Jacobs https://www.adomonline.com/any-political-party-that-claims-ec-wants-to-rig-elections-is-weak-allotey-jacobs/ Fri, 22 Sep 2023 09:50:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2296896 Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has criticised the opposition party for alleging that there is a scheme by the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the 2024 elections.

The NDC has called out the Commission for deploying faulty and dysfunctional machines at its strongholds for the limited voter registration exercise.

To the opposition party, these actions are a deliberate attempt by the electoral body to disenfranchise new registrants – an allegation the Commission has vehemently denied.

Reacting to the allegation, Mr. Allotey urged the NDC to find better strategies to secure victory in the 2024 polls rather than play the blame game.

“Any political party that says such a thing shows its weakness. That party is not on the grounds and it also does not have people who relate with the Electoral Commission,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

The limited registration exercise began on Tuesday, September 12, despite an injunction filed by the NDC and four other parties.

The 21-day exercise is expected to end on October 09, 2023

According to him, Mr. Kyerematen has some good qualities but not enough to be a presidential candidate.

Mr. Kyerematen is no more in the race for the flagbearership slot of the party. He cited intimidation and communist inferior tactics adopted by the party to favour one candidate as reasons for his decision.

He is yet to decide his next line of action but some of his supporters have called on him to break away from NPP.

But some political pundits have cautioned him not to attempt to go independent because it will be suicidal for his political career.

In support, Allotey Jacobs said Mr. Kyerematen will not succeed as an independent candidate.

“Alan Kyerematen is too noble to lead a political party. He must attend the school of politics. He’s faded out of the system, the time people were aspiring him to be the leader is past. He couldn’t establish his team. He does not have what it take to be a politician. As a leader, you should take control of your team” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Ali Zakaria, the North-East Regional Campaign Coordinator for Alan claimed he was beaten mercilessly when he questioned some voters who lifted up their ballot paper to the full view of the delegates after voting.

He said some unidentified delegates attacked him; leaving him with a swollen eye and bruises on his face.

His assault is a major contributory factor Mr. Kyerematen withdrew from the presidential race.

Reacting to this, Allotey Jacobs said though the party is investigating that matter, NPP leadership must reach out to Mr. Zakaria.

He suggested the party sends a delegation to officially visit Mr. Zakaria and empathise with him.

“There is the need for the Elections Committee to send a delegation to visit Alan’s agent. Nothing spoils it, they have to meet the regional team there. There is no need for investigations, the man is hurt. They should empathise with the man,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

He explained that Alan’s campaign team members were putting him in a bad light and causing his downfall.

He noted that the utterances of the team members, particularly after Alan’s performance at the NPP Special Delegates Conference last Saturday, have been very unhelpful.

“Though Heaven and Earth has taken a decision that Bawumia is the chosen one, he (Alan) has a major role to play in his party but the problem he has is his campaign team…their utterances are extremely bad,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

“Does he expect to win the elections with this team? No, it’s not possible,” he added.

To him, Mr Kyerematen, who he described as calm and a fine gentleman, can stand the slightest chance in the presidential race if he makes some tough decisions.

On Saturday, August 28, six NPP presidential aspirants successfully sailed through the party’s Super Delegates Conference.

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia led with 68.15% (629) of the total votes cast, followed by Kennedy Agyapong who polled 15.03% (132) of the total votes cast.

Mr Kyerematen came in third with 10.29% (95) of the total votes cast, and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto came fourth with 3.90% (36).

Yaw Buaben Asamoah, Alan’s campaign spokesperson however remains confident that the result in November will be completely different.

The Minority caucus, along with the broader NDC, has issued a three-week ultimatum to Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of BoG, and his deputies, demanding their voluntary resignation.

Failure to comply would lead to the Minority marching to the Central Bank’s headquarters to forcibly remove them.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs, however, deems these actions as hypocritical and lacking in substance.

He questions the authority of the Minority to make appointments or dismissals and points out that the appointment of the Bank of Ghana’s governor does not fall within their purview.

He also criticizes the notion of picketing at the bank while continuing to receive salaries from it, likening it to childish behavior.

“All this picketing will achieve nothing. We should learn from history and not be misled by rash decisions. Engaging in protests and making statements about causing upheaval will not grant you real power,” he remarked during an interview on Accra-based Peace FM.

Allotey Jacobs further highlights the inconsistency of the MPs, citing their lack of participation in the “Fix the Country” demonstration despite receiving various financial benefits. He characterizes their actions as lazy and unproductive.

The Central Bank reportedly incurred losses of more than 60 billion cedis in 2022, according to a financial statement.

In response to the claims made by the opposition party NDC, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has refuted assertions of insolvency or bankruptcy. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority leader, stated that the bank exhibited negative equity exceeding GHS55.1 billion, implying insolvency.

However, the Central Bank countered these claims, asserting that its financial outcomes have limited impact on its operational status, given its non-commercial nature.

According to him, delegates will indirectly be influenced to vote for the aspirant who emerges victorious in the super delegates congress.

“With this new timetable, the super delegates will decide who is going to win the flagbearership contest. Whoever wins the first position during the Super Delegates Congress will inform the delegates that that aspirant should be voted for.”

He added that “it can happen that the second or third can win but it will depend on the five who are dropped. That’s when the political engineering will take place. Those dropped can urge their delegates to support any one of the five left to contest. Whoever wins from the super delegates gets a clear hurdle that he will win,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

He advised that the party leadership unites all members before the actual presidential primary on November 4.

Mr Jacobs stated that the party must meet with aspirants who fail to make the top five spots to avoid character assassination, undermining, and backbiting.

NPP’s national congress by a special electoral college has been scheduled for August 26, 2023.

Eleven aspirants have so far picked nomination forms to contest for the flagbearership position.

According to him, the “miracle” in Ghana’s harsh economic times is that workers are paid salaries to cater for their basic needs.

“I’ll agree with the EIU report that yes the economy is not the best. But the miracle in our worst economy is that our workers are always receiving their salary as compared to Nigeria and other Anglophone countries.

“The miracle in this worst economy is that today everyone eats thrice daily. Nobody in this country will tell me that he or she does not eat.”

Mr Jacobs suggested that  “in times of difficulty, we need a very thinking leadership that can help cushion prices, that’s why I’m in support of the God for Oil policy,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted a 30% depreciation of the cedi to the dollar in 2023.

This is, however, lower than the about 44% depreciation of the local currency in 2022.

Disclosing this in its 2023 Country Report on Ghana, the UK-based firm said it expects the cedi to depreciate significantly this year.

Allotey Jacobs reacts to EIU report on 2024 election https://www.adomonline.com/allotey-jacobs-reacts-to-eiu-report-on-2024-election/ Thu, 04 May 2023 15:46:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2245801 Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has disputed the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) prediction for the 2024 elections.

According to the EIU report, the opposition NDC is likely to emerge victorious in both the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The EIU’s baseline forecast includes poor governance, economic hardship, and debt restructuring.

The Unit further noted that, whoever holds power, the focus of Ghana’s policy will remain to ensure macroeconomic stability.

Per the report, economic difficulties and poor leadership may create an anti-incumbency wave, which will likely favour the opposition NDC.

Additionally, similar economic challenges are expected to be faced by the new government.

But Mr Jacobs has said his uncertainty about the report has to do with past failed predictions by the firm.

“We’ve known EIU since 2002 when they predicted that the NDC will win the next elections, we lost by a high margin. President Kufuor won again.

“They take some of these things out of some noisemaking and some feelings of the people. Currently, the NPP’s communication team is not as vibrant as they were when in opposition. And now those in opposition are making noise. So if abroad, you’ll sum up a report stating that since people are suffering and they will vote against government,” he explained on Accra-based Peace FM.

He, however, urged political parties should not to sweep the report under the carpet.

He added that the governing New Patriotic Party and NDC must come up with strategies to help them claim victory.

“EIU has failed in their predictions or their projections once or twice. It doesn’t give room for us to doubt their report.

“But it is also good for both political parties, these two major parties that if government manages the economy well victory is assured. The report should be a headache for the political parties. It is up to them to come up with a strategy to help them secure power,” he added.

He stated that aspirants and party officials inciting violence in some Ghanaians are unhealthy for Ghana’s democracy.

“I carry one of the greatest guilt as a politician for being a member of a party that has been in existence for 19 years and that could position this country. We’re wasting this country, the life of Ghana is being wasted by politicians myself included because we don’t speak the truth. I also support just to fill my pocket,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

He noted that politicians when sure they will win, use whatever means to motivate supporters both peacefully and violently.

“We’ve character assassinated people in this country. It’s time for clean politics. If you’re sure you’ll win, go to the ground. Go and work with your foot soldiers,” he added.

His comment was on the back of a meeting between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare and the leadership of the NDC and NPP.

The meeting was necessitated by press statements issued by the parties and subsequently followed by petitions to the Police Service calling for the arrest of Agric Minister, Bryan Acheampong, Former President John Mahama, and National Chairman of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia from both sides over some comments.

During the meeting, the Ghana Police Service asked the two largest political parties not to interfere with their job.

According to the service, there are effective policing interventions to ensure law and order at all times including before, during, and post-elections.

They, therefore, expect the political parties to support it by criticizing it constructively to do a professional job in line with its constitutional mandate.

A former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has said he believes the founder, late Jerry Rawlings took the party to his grave.

According to him, the party is gradually losing its values and relevance.

Mr Allotey, who has been a long-standing member of NDC, lamented the current generation knows nothing about the foundation of the party.

“I have been a national executive of the party and knows our history very well. The young people now don’t know how the formation of the NDC even came about you look at
them and you listen to what they say, and you ask yourself if the NDC will not end up like the CPP?” he bemoaned.

Uncle Allotey, as he is widely known, has stated the writings are clear on the wall, adding the current events in NDC are similar to what happened in the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

“Today Rawlings is dead, the founder of the party is dead. I am inclined to believe that Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings took his NDC along when he died just like Kwame Nkrumah went with his CPP,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has said President Nana Akufo-Addo will not sack Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to the social commentator, the final decision lies solely with the President despite the numerous calls.

However, there is no way Akufo-Addo will sack Mr Ofori-Atta due to their relationship.

“Ken must go but that depends on the president. If you were in the shoes of the president, what would you have done? Will you have sacked your own brother? ” he quizzed on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

He likened the current situation to blood monarchy as well as bloodline inheritance and dynasty through which he noted a leader succeeds.

“Akufo-Addo’s mother is a sister of Ofori-Atta’s father. Gabby’s mum is a sister of Akufo-Addo’s mum. So when you are given any position, won’t your people enjoy? It is not about what you know in Ghana but who you know and we have all enjoyed such opportunities and we should stop this hypocrisy,” he stated.

Social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has stated former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo cannot be faulted for her outburst over the Debt Exchange Programme.

According to the former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Madam Akuffo raised genuine concerns as someone who knows what she is feeling.

Uncle Allotey made these remarks on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

“She spoke her mind. For all you know, she has made her plans and it has been jeopardised. She is not greedy it is just a feeling for her age mates because she knows how she survives as a former Chief Justice because God has given us a survival instinct and so I will not respect anyone who says they are hungry and don’t have a job,” he said.

Justice Akuffo on Friday, February 10, 2023, joined a group of pensioners to picket the Finance Ministry and hoisted a placard with the inscription “We depend on our bond yields to pay our rent, medical bills, electricity bills and water bills.”

The aggrieved pensioners are demanding the exemption of their investments from government’s debt exchange programme.

She described the move by the government not to exempt pensioners from the programme as sheer wickedness and outright disrespect to the elderly who have sacrificed their lives for the development of the nation.

Her outburst was however greeted with mixed reactions from a section of political figures.

Reacting to the development on Twitter, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Otchere- Darko, said Madam Akuffo may mean well but she erred big time in her basic appreciation of the issues.

Mr Otchere-Darko’s tweet has however garnered massive backlash coupled with a call by former Tema East MP, Titus- Glover for him to delete it.

He indicated a lot of people are gradually accepting the programme which has resulted in a reduction in the number of protesters at the Finance Ministry each passing day.

“But this should be a lesson for Ofori-Atta because from afar, I feel he doesn’t engage stakeholders,” he urged.

According to the former National Democratic Congress Central Regional Chairman, President Akufo-Addo is suffering the brunt of problems inherited and transferred from one generation to the other.

“It is unfortunate that we as Ghanaians have heaped a mountain that has fallen on this current government. We sowed some bad seeds including corruption which has matured under Nana Akufo-Addo. Nana, I pity you. I am sure he doesn’t sleep,” he said on Accra-based Peace FM.

Admitting President Akufo-Addo was elected to solve problems and has no control over certain issues which may be a global phenomenon, he was quick to add there must be a local solution now.

Citing inspiration from the Bible, he noted it is about time the government adopts the eye for an eye, tooth for tooth approach in dealing with corruption and other national issues.

“I think it is time we hold the bull by the horn to make sure we will survive as a nation. If not, politicians will continue to take advantage even when they know they cannot do it,” he bemoaned.

He further stressed there is the need for change in social and political lives generally as Ghanaians.

Speaking on Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs wondered why the President’s appointees are comfortably sitting in their offices while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) deceived Ghanaians.

His comment comes after recent statements by former President John Mahama about President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Mr Mahama had said that President Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) have failed Ghanaians.

Allotey Jacobs, in disagreeing with the former President’s assertion, blamed the government officials for allowing Mr Mahama and his NDC to pull the wool over Ghanaians’ eyes.

In his view, Mr Allotey thinks the appointees are not doing much to counter the statements by the Ex-President and members of the opposition.

He, therefore, called on government appointees to step out of their offices and preach the good works of the President.

“There should be a change in our political administration, especially with regard to appointees. We cannot always be sitting in the comfort of our offices. The government appointees must know that those who voted for their party, the majority of them are not as educated as they are. So, the way and manner you came down and talked with them to vote for your party is the same way you should come down to talk to them when you get the power, and that is what political parties or parties in government are lacking. Don’t sit in the comfort of your offices,” he said, adding that “the President must do a reshuffle”.

Nana B is currently the NPP National Youth Organiser but hopes to succeed Sammi Awuku who has now been appointed the boss of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

“Looking at the political personalities in Ghana, he occupies a big space on social media and I will want to encourage him to continue. He has already won the race and I wish to ask my friend in Tema East not to waste his time,” he said amid laughter.

The endorsement comes weeks after Nana B emerged as a hot favourite among the party faithful in a research conducted by the Research Bureau at the Office of the Presidency.

Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has taken the Minority to the cleaners for being a “stumbling block to Ghana’s progress”.

He claimed the intransigent position taken by the NDC Members of Parliament about the 2022 Budget is to please the whims and caprices of some ‘big people’ in the party.

“We sit down and joke because we are being controlled by our political leaders. You have become a remote control like zombies,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Wednesday.

The Minority has raised concerns about the 2022 budget presented by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

They cited, among other things, government’s proposed Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) as a killer tax which will deepen the woes of Ghanaians.

They voted to reject it and has vowed not to accept the 2022 budget until the E-levy is expunged from the government’s financial estimates.

This position by the Minority, Mr Jacobs stated is borne out of political expediency.

He indicated that, the claim that they are fighting for the masses is just a smokescreen to “score cheap political points”.

The former NDC Regional Chairman could not fathom why legislators worth their salt will allow themselves to be manipulated by party people.

Mr Jacobs added that, the Minority by their conduct, has missed the opportunity to genuinely hold the government accountable.

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not happy with the party’s decision to sack former Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs and former General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho.

Kojo Bonsu said to err is human, hence the two gentlemen with such clout in the NDC should have just been punished for their anti-party behaviour and made to stay.

NDC’s Functional Executive Committee expelled the two after they were found guilty of misconduct and persistent anti-party behaviour.

They were used as scapegoats to deter other party members from engaging in conduct that will bring the image of the NDC into disrepute.

But this decision, Mr Bonsu maintained was harsh given the pedigree of both gentlemen in the party.

Kojo Bonsu

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday, Mr Bonsu said the decision to sack the two was harsh.

“Two wrongs don’t make a right, I believe that even if they erred, we could have spoken to each other and found a solution,” he added.

Though he is not condoning what they are purported to have done, he said the ripple effect of their expulsion could affect the NDC ahead of the 2024 elections.

“Koku and Allotey have supporters in the NDC; the ripple effect of this decision can affect us in elections,” he stated.

Mr Bonsu said if given the opportunity, he will lobby for their comeback.

Veteran politician, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has shared a funny story of why he quit the Catholic Church in 1967.

He became a member of the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church at Mamprobi in Accra after baptism and was given the English name Bernard.

The former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress said he was an ardent member and participated in all activities of the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Church.

However, one Sunday during harvest, he decided to play some pranks while foodstuffs were being auctioned to raise money for church activities.

“I mentioned huge amounts when the goods were being auction but I was unlucky when no one beat me to the amount I mention for a loaf of bread,” Mr Jacobs stated.

After service, he said the planning committee asked him to make the payment and come for his bread.

“At once I started sweating looking for a place of escape; at their blindside, I escaped and never came back to the church,” Mr Jacobs laughed hysterically.

He explained his optimism stems from interactions he has had with his colleague who he has been together since 2002.

According to the social commentator, the man Ofori-Atta is a mystery that needs to be unraveled.

“I like his demeanour whenever he appears . There is the need for Ghanaians to study him and politicians should put him on the table to dissect and know what he is made of,” he said.

Parliament on Monday approved the nominee as Finance Minister following a recommendation by the Appointments Committee.

The conclusion was reached via voice vote on the floor.

Reacting to Mr Ofori-Atta’s approval on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, uncle Allotey, as he is popularly known, spoke highly of the minister.

“You can never weave a rope around him because he will always come out. You set a trap and he jumps over it,” he lauded.

He added: “All those who targeted him with their missiles misfired. Do we have to call him a mystic blowing in the wind?  Because it is not easy to gain something by a consensus in a hung parliament.”

Mr Ofori-Atta, nominated as Minister of Finance for the second time by President Nana Akufo-Addo, faced the Committee in a two-day vetting session last week.

He was asked about due diligence done on the controversial Agyapa deal, among other controversial topics.

Atubiga sends strong message to NDC over Allotey Jacobs https://www.adomonline.com/atubiga-sends-strong-message-to-ndc-over-allotey-jacobs/ Thu, 25 Mar 2021 10:12:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1938588 A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Atubiga, has expressed his displeasure about the suspension of Bernard Allotey Jacobs.

According to him, the party could have managed whatever friction existed in a better way with the person involved as a former key party office holder.

“Someone in the party could have managed him well with no respect and I believe I can do that very well if given the authority,” he said.

The NDC in a statement on Wednesday announced the expulsion of its former Central Region Chairman.

In a press release detailing the announcement, it said the decision was reached after a Functional Executive meeting.

The expulsion is the punishment he has to endure after he was found guilty of “allegations of misconduct, anti-party conduct.”

Reacting to the development on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Atubiga noted Uncle Allotey was still a prominent person so far as the history of the party was concerned.

“People will say Allotey doesn’t matter but I believe Mahama doesn’t mind driving to his house because if a big man falls, you don’t laugh.

“He is human and we all have our issues but he has been a regional chairman before and it does not take a lunatic to occupy such a position,” he urged.

The expulsion is the punishment he has to endure after he was found guilty of “allegations of misconduct, anti-party conduct.”

Mr Jacobs was shown the exit in compliance with Article 48 (1) of the party’s constitution and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee after his initial suspension.

By that, the NDC is emphasising that Mr Jacobs is and will no longer be recognised as a member and he cannot carry himself as such.

Mr Jacobs is, thus, required to return all party property in his possession.

Allotey Jacobs ‘attacks’ Ama Benyiwa-Doe https://www.adomonline.com/allotey-jacobs-attacks-ama-benyiwa-doe/ Tue, 23 Mar 2021 16:51:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1937669 Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs, has posed a thought-provoking question to a leading member of the party, Ama Benyiwa-Doe.

The social commentator has asked the source of the latter’s wealth being someone he said started life as a typist at the University of Ghana (UG).

“She was a typist at UG, not a sonographer secretary and she lives at East Legon, a prime area but I want to ask her what other work she did before she joined the revolution through to the regional minister appointment,” he said.

His comment comes on the back of the former Central Regional Minister’s claims that Mr Jacobs only joined the NDC to enrich himself.

“Allotey Jacobs’ sole interest was to make money [and] now he feels he is okay so he is biting the hand that fed him,” she said in an interview.

However, Uncle Allotey, as he is popularly known, speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show fought off the claims.

To him, Madam Benyiwa-Doe was coached to come and say something against his persona; however, he will not keep quiet as some people have.

“People don’t know your background so they talk anyhow but I had a filling station as far back as 1991 and it was Former Vice President Arkaah who helped me with that but people don’t know.

“Some of us were forced to come to the NDC platform over the progressive alliance and we have fought with our lives for the party and this is the end results. There are a lot of things I have allowed to pass under the bridge because I am old but sometimes you need to tell your story,” he added.

Alban Bagbin will not dance to NDC’s tune – Allotey Jacobs https://www.adomonline.com/alban-bagbin-will-not-dance-to-ndcs-tune-allotey-jacobs/ Thu, 18 Mar 2021 15:31:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1935283 Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vouched for the integrity of Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs said Mr Bagbin is a very principled man who will not use his office to serve the party’s interest.

The loyalty of the Speaker of Parliament and leadership of the Minority Caucus was questioned after Parliament passed three ministerial nominees the Minority had earlier raised red flags about during the vetting by the Appointments Committee.

The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, took to social media to lambast the Speaker and some of the Minority Members of Parliament.

He said the NDC leadership in Parliament, led by Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak and Speaker Bagbin betrayed the party by approving the three nominees.

Most members of the NDC agreed with him and even called for a total overhaul of the leadership in Parliament.

Such vitriolic attacks, according to Mr Jacobs, can only come from persons: “The devil has taken residence in their heart.”

He could not fathom why some NDC members expect an experienced politician like Mr Bagbin to champion the NDC agenda instead of the national agenda.

“We are building a nation not a political party so I will support a Speaker who can handle the House irrespective of his political allegiance,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.

As someone who has been with Mr Bagbin through his political life, Mr Jacobs said he [Bagbin] will not dance to the NDC’s tune.

“Bagbin is very principled; he does not entertain hypocrisy and sycophancy. He is independent-minded,” he stressed.

Rather than seeking to use the NDC group in Parliament to frustrate the government, Mr Jacobs charged the NDC leadership to focus on putting their house in order ahead of the 2024 elections.

Uncle Allotey, as he is popularly known, has now eaten his old words back.

The social commentator had earlier said he will stick his neck out for Mr Ofosu-Ampofo over the tape and defend him to the last.

According to him, some people within the NDC Communications team once exposed him (Allotey) in the same fashion as done to the latter.

However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Wednesday, he made comments to the effect that he could no longer defend Mr Ofosu-Ampofo over the alleged leaked tape.

Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) feels vindicated following the defeat of the party in the 2020 general election.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs said he knew the NDC would lose the election after the election of National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

“I knew Ofosu-Ampofo cannot lead the NDC to victory; he lacks leadership skills,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Wednesday.

The NDC National Chairman is now on the radar of Mr Jacobs after asking supporters not to pay attention to the suspended member.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo called the former NDC Central Regional Chairman’s bluff wishing they could even impose a harsher sanction on him [Allotey].

This has since angered Mr Jacobs and is now questioning the integrity of the Chairman of his former political party.

“Ofosu-Ampofo behaves like a toddler and talks like a kindergarten boy that is why I did not support him for the chairmanship position,” he said.

The former NDC Chairman cautioned Mr Ofosu-Ampofo not to use him to settle personal scores in the NDC.

Mr Jacobs said he is not surprised at the conduct of the National Chairman because he is seeking re-election.

“Ofosu-Ampofo led NDC to the slaughter and he now wants to appease the supporters by attacking me,” he added.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs has described as “too much” the rate at which the officers extort monies from drivers who ply that stretch.

In a post on Facebook, he called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, to call his “boys” to order.

“The Mempeasem barrier is of no use when you have a barrier at Jukwa, Atabadzi, Tstse Oguaa Kuma Beriwa and Abeadze Dominase; you don’t need a barrier at Oguaa Mempeasem. The extortion is too much,” said Allotey Jacobs.

He stressed that rumours that the procured COVID-19 vaccines are unsafe for use should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

Mr Jacobs made the call on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, after taking his first jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Sharing his experience after taking the vaccine, the social commentator said he did not feel any pain.

As someone who has a phobia for injections from childhood, the former NDC Central Regional Chairman said he did not notice when the injection was administered on him.

“I’m very scared of injections so I was very reluctant until my son who is a medical doctor persuaded me to take the job. I didn’t feel any pain,” he stated.

Mr Jacobs commended the government, the Ghana Health Service and the National Covid-19 taskforce for doing a good job in ensuring the safety of all Ghanaians.

On Wednesday, February 24, the government took delivery of 600,000 AstraZeneca doses as part of the World Health Organisation’s global vaccine-sharing programme.

So far, about 300,000 Ghanaians, including President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have taken the first dose of the vaccine.

Former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he is no longer a member of the party.

“I’m no longer a member of the NDC. They suspended me but I have decided to dismiss myself,” he stated.

Bernard Allotey Jacobs said he reached the decision following his suspension for “persistent anti-party conduct.”

The livid former NDC Chairman on Adom FM’s Midday News Kasiebo is Tasty explained that it is time to take the back seat.

On the way forward, the social commentator said he will support President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to accelerate Ghana’s development.

“I will never be a member of the New Patriotic Party but I support President Akufo-Addo because of his good works. In Central Region alone, road in villages are being asphalted,” he noted.

Mr Jacobs added that, as a statesman, he will support any agenda which will develop Ghana.
