Deputy Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has reiterated the Mahama administration’s commitment to prioritizing the development of untarred roads across the country.

During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Suhuyini highlighted key factors that will guide road development, including high traffic volumes, densely populated areas, and access to agricultural production zones.

He also emphasized the growing importance of tourism in determining infrastructure priorities.

“The considerations have been high traffic areas, areas with high population, roads leading to agric production areas, farmlands, and all of that. And I think that tourism has also become an area that can attract the need for roads to be prioritised,” he stated.

Suhuyini further noted that ultimate decisions on road prioritization would be led by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, in consultation with President Mahama.

“The Minister, working with the president, will give the guidance and the direction as to how the ministry will prioritise roads that will be constructed within the period. It’s sad that in this era we still have roads that are untarred. I’m very confident that together with my minister we will do our very best to prioritise some of these roads,” he added.

Suhuyini ‘fights’ govt over planned demolition of Tamale timber market https://www.adomonline.com/suhuyini-fights-govt-over-planned-demolition-of-tamale-timber-market/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 13:10:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2262787 The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini has described as insensitive plans by the government to demolish the Tamale Aboabo Timber Market in the Northern Region.

Mr Suhuyini contends that the land which is inhabited by many traders who sell timber products was sold to a private developer by the government in 2020 for redevelopment.

Addressing the media in Parliament, the lawmaker said the government has failed to offer compensation and alternative for the affected dwellers ahead of the planned demolition.

The MP who summoned the Minister to Parliament indicated that the traders who have occupied the land for decades are losing their livelihoods as a result of the move.

He, therefore, wants the government to take immediate action to save the traders.

Reacting to the claims, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, said the state followed due process in leasing the land to the private developer in line with the redevelopment plan started by the Rawlings administration.

The Damango MP also assured government was ready to pay compensation.
