Kortey recently accused former GFA Vice President George Afriyie of attempting to bribe him during a match between All Black Stars and Asante Kotoko.

Speaking in an interview with Top FM, Kortey claimed that Afriyie, along with a mutual friend, visited his home and offered him money.

“George Afriyie came to my house and offered me a bribe during his time with All Blacks. I wasn’t aware of his visit until my friend, who accompanied him, informed me. I felt uncomfortable and initially refused to meet him. But after my friend convinced me, I agreed to speak with him. He wanted to give me money, but I told him I don’t engage in such things and advised him to give the money to his players instead,” Kortey alleged.

However, he later retracted his statement and issued an apology after Afriyie threatened legal action.

Reacting to the situation, Fianoo has urged the GFA to take decisive action by dismissing Kortey, arguing that his conflicting statements harm the credibility of the association.

“Alex Kortey should be sacked from his role. His comment about a potential GFA president (George Afriyie) is wrong. He is a moving contradiction, and it is so wrong,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“How can you say something and days later, you come back and say, ‘I am sorry’?” he quizzed.

The top-tier league has faced significant criticism for contentious decisions in the recently concluded season, particularly regarding goals and refereeing choices on the final day, raising suspicions of match-fixing.

Kotey acknowledged the current broadcasting limitations but advocated for broader coverage.

“I wish all our matches could be televised live because when there is a live match, the focus is on you [the referee],” he told Asempa FM on the Ultimate Sports Show.

“You will also want to avoid mistakes, but it depends on the sponsors. They think they cannot show all the matches, only about four. Expanding coverage would help.”

StarTimes, the rights holders for the league under a $5.25 million agreement signed in 2020, have had their contract terminated.

Consequently, the Ghana Football Association is now seeking a new partner.
