Speaking in Parliament on January 21, 2025, he accused his successor of misrepresenting the facts, arguing that the government actually constructed a total of 13,624 kilometres of roads between 2017 and 2025.

“Honourable Speaker, let me put on record that as of December 2024, per the transition report, the Akufo-Addo government had constructed 13,624 kilometres of roads.

“This figure is compared to the 4,630 kilometres of roads constructed by the previous government in eight years,” he stated.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye described the total road network developed under the Akufo-Addo administration as a remarkable achievement, covering various aspects such as asphalt overlays, gravelling, reconstruction, and bridge construction.

He argued that Mr. Agbodza’s focus on the 673 kilometres of newly constructed roads presented an incomplete and misleading picture of the government’s efforts.

According to him, while new road construction is crucial, other critical works such as asphalt overlays and re-gravelling play an equally vital role in improving transportation infrastructure.

Providing examples, he cited major asphalt overlay projects in cities like Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, and Takoradi, which have significantly enhanced road quality and transportation efficiency.

He also highlighted the completion of approximately 6,000 kilometres of gravel roads, which he said were essential for connecting rural communities and improving accessibility.

Mr. Asenso-Boakye further detailed that under the Akufo-Addo government, 1,665 kilometres of roads were reconstructed and upgraded, while 35 bridges were built across the country, contributing to the administration’s broader infrastructure development agenda.

“Many of us represent rural communities and understand the importance of gravelling in linking people and improving accessibility in these areas. These projects are crucial and cannot be dismissed simply because they are not new road constructions,” he noted.

He urged Parliament and the public to acknowledge the comprehensive nature of the road infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the NPP government, stressing that road maintenance and upgrades are vital to sustaining a robust national road network.

Akufo-Addo has worst record in road construction – Wassa East MP https://www.adomonline.com/akufo-addo-has-worst-record-in-road-construction-wassa-east-mp/ Wed, 21 Feb 2024 01:29:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2359221 Wassa East Member of Parliament (MP) Isaac Adjei Mensah has downplayed the Akufo-Addo administration’s track record in road construction in the country.

Mr Mensah who is the ranking member of the Roads and Transport Committee in Parliament has said the incumbent government has the worst record in the Fourth Republic.

The lawmaker made these remarks on Adom FM Burning Issues, stating President Nana Akufo-Addo’s ‘Year of Roads’ declaration has been nothing to write home about.

“We have had that chronological study of the performance of the road sector under the various regimes, starting with [Jerry John] Rawlings’ regime and indeed, President Akufo-Addo is the one with the lowest performance.

“If you check the records, Rawlings did 18,965 kilometres and then you come to [John Evans] Attah-Mills and [John] Mahama, who did over 15,000 kilometres followed by [John Agyekum] Kufuor who did 13,912 kilometres. Akufo-Addo has done 6,977 kilometres of roads,” he stated.

The former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways’ comment comes after Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) road infrastructure record is unmatched.

The NPP flagbearer stressed that the government has undertaken more significant road construction and rehabilitation efforts.

But Mr Mensah insists the claims of the Vice President are not true.

“President Akufo-Addo has stop maintenance of our roads while projects the NDC initiated have been abandoned,” he added.

Roads Minister calls for bi-partisan probe into Akufo-Addo’s claim of building most roads in 4th Republic https://www.adomonline.com/roads-minister-calls-for-bi-partisan-probe-into-akufo-addos-claim-of-building-most-roads-in-4th-republic/ Thu, 16 Mar 2023 12:08:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2228481 The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has asked Parliament to constitute a special committee to investigate claims of President Nana Akufo-Addo that he has built most roads in the Fourth Republic.

According to the Minister, who was debating the state of the Nation Address, this will prove that the president did not lie despite the Minority saying the president’s claims are erroneous.

Mr Amoako-Atta insisted that President Akufo-Addo has constructed most roads across the country.

His suggestion was necessitated by an assertion by the Minority that the President’s claims are erroneous.

The minister, therefore, suggested to the House “to set up an independent bi-partisan committee to investigate at my Ministry the facts of the data …the President under his leadership has done more work in the road sector.”

“I would like to state categorically that this government has built more roads than any government in the history of the 4th Republic,” Mr Amoako-Atta reiterated.

The Minority through the Chief Whip and Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee, Governs Kwame Agbodza, accepted the invitation.

“I believe many people in the country doubt the data he provided so he is offering that you direct the House to set up a bi-partisan committee to investigate and verify the claim he has made.

“Would I plead with you now to direct that we set up a committee since he [Roads Minister] knows that we [Minority] doubt his information?” he said.
