Speaking during the official distribution of relief items — including 1,700 bags of cement and 80 bundles of roofing sheets — Daniel Dagba acknowledged the immense support already facilitated by the efforts of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, with critical contributions from Gacem Cement and philanthropist Anthony Eid Saud.

He noted, however, that the scale of devastation was overwhelming, and while the current donations would bring relief to many, they would not be enough to address all the needs of affected residents.

“The storm was so devastating that a lot of people were affected. Entire roofs were ripped off, and some buildings collapsed completely. This donation will help, but there are still many victims who have not yet received any assistance,” Mr. Dagba said.

The MCE revealed that a comprehensive list of victims had already been compiled through the collaborative efforts of local assembly members and traditional leaders, ensuring that relief distribution would be orderly and fair.

“We asked our assembly members and traditional leaders to collect the names of all victims. They have given us the list, and they will also help with the fair distribution of these items,” he explained.

Mr. Dagba emphasized the need for continued support from NGOs, corporate bodies, religious organizations, and philanthropists to help rebuild homes, schools, and other community infrastructure destroyed by the storm.

“We are appealing to all benevolent organizations and individuals to come to our aid,” he said.

“Just like Anthony Eid Saud and Gacem Cement came to support us, we hope others will also extend their generosity.”

He also stressed that the municipality remained committed to ensuring that every item donated would be delivered responsibly to genuine victims, maintaining trust and transparency throughout the relief process.

“Our people have suffered enough,” he lamented. “Any little help will go a long way to restore their hope and dignity. Together, we can rebuild Akatsi South.”

Mr. Dagba concluded his address by expressing heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, Gacem Cement, Mr. Anthony Eid Saud, and all individuals who had so far contributed to alleviating the suffering of the people.

Bernard Ahiafor mobilizes relief for rainstorm victims in Akatsi South https://www.adomonline.com/bernard-ahiafor-mobilizes-relief-for-rainstorm-victims-in-akatsi-south/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 15:52:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2529546 In a swift and highly transparent relief effort, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has spearheaded the distribution of over 1,700 bags of cement and 80 bundles of roofing sheets to victims of a devastating rainstorm that displaced more than 400 households in the constituency.

Hon. Ahiafor, recounting his immediate response upon hearing of the disaster while abroad, explained that he mobilized 30 bundles of roofing sheets before setting foot back in Ghana. “The moment I landed, I didn’t even go home first. I dropped my bags and came straight to the constituency to assess the damage,” he narrated.

Moved by the widespread destruction, which left many families homeless and several school structures damaged, Mr. Ahiafor contacted partners and philanthropists to amplify the support. His appeals led to the remarkable donation of 1,700 bags of cement through Gacem Cement and an additional 50 bundles of roofing sheets from philanthropist Anthony Eid Saud.

The donations were officially received by the Akatsi South NDC Chairman, Mr. Anthony Owusu, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Daniel Dagba, on behalf of the victims and affected schools.

“This intervention is timely and a huge relief to our suffering people,” said Mr. Owusu. “We are grateful to the MP, Gacem Cement, and Mr. Eid Saud for responding quickly to our plight.”

Hon. Ahiafor emphasized that the distribution of the relief items would be carried out with strict transparency and fairness, in line with the principles of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He assured the people that every donation received would reach the affected victims directly.

“Our party is built on transparency, probity, and accountability,” he stated. “Each time we get a relief item, we organize and distribute it openly. Today, I’m announcing to the entire nation that the donation we have from Gacem Cement and Mr. Anthony Eid Saud is here, and distribution has started.”

He further disclosed that educational institutions severely affected by the storm were being prioritized to ensure that students could quickly return to safe classrooms. For instance, 200 bags of the donated cement are being directed toward the reconstruction of a school fence wall that collapsed during the storm.

However, despite the significant support, many residents expressed that the damage caused by the storm was extensive and called for more help from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to complement the efforts initiated by the MP.

“Some families lost entire homes,” lamented one resident. “We are very grateful for this relief, but we still need more assistance to rebuild our lives.”

Mr. Ahiafor called on anyone willing to assist to contact him directly or reach out through Mr. Anthony Owusu or Hon. Daniel Dagba, assuring the public that all donations would be accountably delivered to the victims.

Here, amidst its impeccable clean streets and neatly kept homes, a unique tapestry of culture, tradition, and spirituality weaves the fabric of community life.

What sets Dagbamatey apart from its neighboring towns is not just its pristine appearance but the absence of a conventional sight one might expect in any Ghanaian community—a church.

Surprisingly, in this tranquil haven, not a single church or Christian gathering place can be found. Instead, the focal point of spiritual reverence lies in the sacred Afetorku Gbordzi, housed in a chapel-like shrine that serves as the town’s spiritual nucleus.

As the sun rises over the lush Volta landscape, it illuminates this cherished shrine, casting a serene glow over Dagbamatey.

A Serene Sanctuary

Upon entering Dagbamatey, visitors are struck by its serene ambiance. The town seems almost suspended in time, with its well-kept paths winding between houses adorned with vibrant displays of local artistry. Yet, what truly captures the soul of this community is the Afetorku Gbordzi shrine.

Tucked away in a secluded corner, the shrine stands as a testament to the town’s deep-rooted reverence for tradition. Its architecture, reminiscent of a chapel, is a beacon of spirituality for the residents of Dakpamatey. Here, under the watchful gaze of ancestral symbols and sacred relics, locals gather to pay homage to their ancestors and seek guidance from the revered deity, Afetorku Gbordzi.

Preserving Tradition Amidst Modernity

In a rapidly changing world, Dakpamatey stands as a bastion of tradition. For generations, the town has upheld the sacred customs passed down from ancestors, finding harmony in their beliefs and practices. The absence of churches does not signify a lack of spirituality but rather a deep respect for the unique heritage that defines Dakpamatey.

The leader of the shrine, Ngorgbea Kofi Davor, reflects on the town’s spiritual journey: “Our ancestors have guided us through the ages, and we honour their legacy through the Afetorku Gbordzi shrine. It is a symbol of our unity, reminding us of the values that bind us together.”

Embracing Diversity in Worship

Despite the absence of Christian churches, Dagbamatey welcomes all with open arms. The town’s residents, known for their warmth and hospitality, celebrate the diversity of beliefs among its people. Visitors are often treated to traditional ceremonies and rituals, providing a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Ghanaian spirituality.

Daavi Abla Mensah, a young resident, shares her thoughts on Dakpamatey’s inclusive spirit: “In our town, we believe that spirituality transcends labels. Whether you come to pray at the shrine or simply bask in the peaceful atmosphere, all are welcome here.”

A Hidden Gem of Ghana

As word of Dagbamatey’s unique charm spreads, more travelers are venturing off the beaten path to discover this hidden gem of Ghana. The town’s eco-friendly initiatives, such as its clean-up drives and recycling programmes, have garnered praise from environmental advocates.

For those seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life, Dakpamatey offers a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. Whether exploring the winding streets adorned with vibrant murals or taking part in a traditional ceremony at the Afetorku Gbordzi shrine, visitors are sure to find solace in this remarkable town.

As the sun sets on Dagbamatey, casting a golden hue over its serene landscape, one cannot help but feel the timeless allure of this extraordinary town.

Akatsi South: Motor rider jailed two years for exposing private video of ex-girlfriend https://www.adomonline.com/akatsi-south-motor-rider-jailed-two-years-for-exposing-private-video-of-ex-girlfriend/ Sun, 18 Jun 2023 14:25:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2261574
A 24-year-old commercial motor rider at Akatsi in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, Gilbert Asemuasa, has been sentenced to two years in jail by the District Court for circulating his former fiancé’s private video on social media.

The convict was charged with the offence of Non-Consensual sharing of Intimate video contrary to section 67 of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 (Act 1038) of the Constitution.

Chief Inspector Joseph Ajongbah, Police prosecutor, briefing the court during an appearance on June 2, said three years ago, the convict was in a relationship with a 20-year-old female past student of the Caring Sister Vocational Institute at Keta, and that, in January 2019 in the night, the complainant visited the convict in his house and they engaged in sexual intercourse.

He said the complainant informed the convict of experiencing some rashes on her private part, which the convict used his phone light to observe what was going wrong there ostensibly to also film the private part without the knowledge of the complainant.

Chief Inspector Ajongba narrated that the convict had cautioned the complainant not to quit the relationship, and that failure to comply would compel him to teach her some lessons.

He further said the complainant later called for an end to their union after a misunderstanding had ensued between them.

Chief Inspector Ajongbah continued that the complainant rejected all the persuasive approaches used by the convict to lure her back after which she received an unknown call threatening her of exposing her nakedness as a result.

He told the court presided over by Mrs Felicia Gandedzi that after realising it was the convict, who was threatening her, she reported the issue to the convict’s brother but nothing was done about it.

The convict was later arrested after a formal complaint was lodged by the complainant with the Police at Akatsi, where the convict, during interrogations, admitted having taken the video but denied sharing it on social media.

However, after investigations, the convict was charged and arraigned, and convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour after admitting to the offence.

Akatsi South MP to petition IGP over increasing crime in his constituency https://www.adomonline.com/akatsi-south-mp-to-petition-igp-over-increasing-crime-in-his-constituency/ Mon, 02 Aug 2021 17:51:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1995464 Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, has hinted he would petition the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare over what he describes as insecurity in his constituency.

Mr Ahiafor’s comment comes on the heels of the murder of a pastor and his wife at Ayitikope in the Akatsi South District a few days ago.

He noted that there have been several crimes and incidents in the district which are worrying to him and the residents, hence the need for the petition.

“We have in recent times experienced serious happenings in my constituency and everyone is worried, “he said.

He lamented over the robbery of a private lotto operator of his millions of Ghana cedis.

He also mentioned shops that were ransacked with security guards killed and many other crimes committed in the district.

“It is very sad that these criminals had to attack and kill a man of God and his wife in cold blood,“ he lamented

Mr Ahiafor, who visited the crime scene, noted the urgent need for the Police to take a serious look at the crimes being committed in the district and bring the criminals to book.

Mr Ahiafor, however, urged residents to help the Police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the alleged criminals.

The Ghana Police Service at Akatsi with help from the regional office has, meanwhile, commenced investigations into the case.
