He said the festive season must re-waken society on the qualities Joseph, the father of Jesus Christ exhibited where he resolved to be noble and not disgrace the Virgin Mary even after knowing that she was pregnant.

Delivering a Sunday service sermon on the eve of Christmas at the Perez Dome, the Archbishop, who raised concerns about having people wanting to do what was right and just, said: “These days we don’t have too many noble men.”

His sermon, which dwelt largely on family creation and togetherness, urged married men and potential husbands to desist from the disgrace they put their wives and wives-to-be through when the women cheat.

“Unfortunately, there are guys telling others the number of women they had slept with. They think it is pride, they are rather cheap. Joseph didn’t say anything about Mary to people. He was a noble man,” he said.

“I am not saying the women must be indulging in promiscuity, however, if you are a man and your wife did that and you don’t love her anymore, don’t beat her, let her go in peace, ” the Archbishop added.

He urged young women to overlook their wealth, social and economic statues and accept young hard working men who had dreams and vision.

The Archbishop said: “This Christmas, if the young men come with marriage proposals, accept them, help them with the processes. It is not wrong to support the guy to marry you.”

Narrating his experience when he met his wife, the Archbishop said he bought six pieces of clothes, had  two from his wife and another two from his sisters for his marriage.

He said his wife also gave him her jewelries to be used as part of the marriage items.

He said it was unfortunate that several young men and women looked down on their partners because of their financial background.

“…When I met my wife, I could only take her from Akim Oda to Asamankese, but today, I have taken her to Japan, Hawaii, Singapore amongst others,” the Archbishop said.

Sonnie Badu defends Archbishop Agyinsasare; asks Ghanaians to learn from Nigerians https://www.adomonline.com/sonnie-badu-defends-archbishop-agyinsasare-asks-ghanaians-to-learn-from-nigerians/ Mon, 17 Jul 2023 13:28:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2273606 Gospel musician Sonnie Badu, in a heartfelt plea, has urged Ghanaians to actively promote their country in a positive light, taking inspiration from neighbouring Nigeria.

His appeal comes in response to the recent reactions following remarks made by Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, about Nogokpo in the Volta Region.

“Unlike Bishop Agyinasare, he’s done so much for Ghana… I don’t think he will make that statement ever again, but I think it’s been dragged so far. So, I just pray and still plead that let’s project Ghana in a positive way like what Nigerians are doing,” Badu pleaded during an interview on Prime Morning, Joy Prime’s morning show.

During a sermon at his church, Archbishop Agyinasare referred to Nogokpo as the “demonic” headquarters of the Volta Region, leading to a strong reaction from the community.

The bishop later clarified that his comments were not intended to disrespect any specific town or its residents, but rather to illustrate the principle of divine protection to his congregants.

However, Badu believes that the issue has been blown out of proportion, especially considering the response from community leaders.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, he emphasised that Archbishop Agyinasare has made significant contributions to promoting Ghana internationally and should not be treated poorly by the populace.

“I’m more concerned about preserving the integrity of Ghana. I’m a proud Ghanaian, and I want the world to hear about Ghana in a positive way and not the everyday people wake up and insult,” Badu stated, stressing the importance of projecting a positive image of the country.

Badu drew a parallel with Nigeria, highlighting the efforts made by Nigerians to promote their country positively. He called upon Ghanaians to follow their example and collectively strive for a constructive approach to showcasing Ghana’s virtues.

While acknowledging that Archbishop Agyinasare meant well with his comments, Badu appealed to the community elders to let the matter rest in order to foster a positive image of Ghana.

Nogokpo saga: Perez Chapel Bishop declares week-long fast over controversy https://www.adomonline.com/nogokpo-saga-perez-chapel-bishop-declares-week-long-fast-over-controversy/ Mon, 05 Jun 2023 11:32:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2256565 The Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel International, Benjamin Ohene Aboagye, on Sunday, June 4, declared a one-week fast with prayers for all members across the globe over the Nogokpo controversy involving the Church.

Representing Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of the Church, who is on an international mission, he announced the stance of the Church’s Board Council on the Nogokpo matter at a church service.

Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, founder and leader of the Perez Chapel International, has said he has no intention to cast a slur upon the people of the Nogokpo town and the Volta Region as a whole.

During a sermon at his Church on Sunday in Accra, May 28, the Archbishop said, his comments were never meant to denigrate the people of Nogokpo and the Volta Region.

He explained that he only sought to refer to an incident that happened after a crusade held in the area.

“To drive home my point, I made reference to several instances where I have encountered manifestations of demonic powers in my crusades, which have taken me to over 92 countries of the world.

“I gave an example of people who were seeking to levitate during a crusade in India. I gave an example of an attack I suffered as a very young pastor who had gone to preach at a bus stop around Korle Bu.

“In reference to Nogokpo, I wish to clarify that I never intended to refer to the town but an incident that happened after a crusade at Aflao – I had absolutely no intention to cast a slur on the people of Nogokpo town and the Volta Region as a whole,” the archbishop explained.

He said, “I have had a cordial relationship with the people of the Volta Region – my wife of 38 years is an Ewe from Keta and two of my biological children bear Ewe names – all the examples I gave were not intended to denigrate any of the towns and their people, but to elucidate the principles of divine protection to congregants,” he said.

Archbishop Agyinasare said he regretted issues surrounding the statement he made and said he remained committed to serving Ghana as a spiritual leader.

“Any misrepresentations or misinformation that has characterised the subsequent commentary and reportage is regretted – my ministry over the past 40 years has been one that has spoken up at critical times in our nation as a spiritual gatekeeper and I remain committed to serving God’s people and the nation as the spirit directs,” the archbishop concluded.

At the Summit held recently at the headquarters of Perez Chapel in Accra, the Archbishop preached about divine protection and the existence of evil forces and cited several examples to support his teaching.

Following the publication of the video online, the Church leader has come under heavy criticism in the media, resulting in reaction from the people of Nogokpo, including statements from the Dufia of Nogokpo, Torgbi Saba V.

Other prominent people from the area, including Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, asked for an apology over the Archbishop’s comment.

Mr Jonas Fotor Agbagba, Assembly member for Nogokpo/Atsivuta said people had misconceptions about the community, famous for its traditions and powerful shrine, Zakadza.

“Nogokpo is not a demonic headquarters. Bishop, respectfully, you goofed. I stand with the good people of Nogokpo,” Israel Selikem Bossman, Assembly member for Denu stated.

Agyinasare apologises over Nogokpo gaffe https://www.adomonline.com/agyinasare-apologises-over-nogokpo-gaffe/ Sun, 28 May 2023 12:41:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2254198 The General Overseer and Founder of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, says he has no intention to cast a slur on certain groups of people or their communities.

This comes after a video of him categorising the town of Nogokpo in the Ketu South Municipal as the headquarters of demons in the Volta Region went viral, attracting criticisms.

Responding to his critics during Church Service on Sunday, May 28, he said, “I have received calls from people very close to me and my attention has been drawn to social media commentary on some portions of comments I made this past Thursday during the Supernatural Empowerment Summit at the Perez Dome.”

He said he was speaking on the divine protection Christians enjoy from God and was teaching congregants about the need to activate divine protection from demonic attacks.

“This is a cardinal principle of our faith as Charismatic Christians,” he said.

Archbishop Agyinasare emphasised “to drive home my point, I made reference to several instances where I have encountered manifestations of demonic powers in my crusades which have taken me to over 90 countries of the world.

“I gave an example of people who were seeking to levitate during a crusade in India. I gave an example of a demonic attack I suffered as a very young pastor who had gone to preach at a bus stop around Korle Bu.”

According to him, “In reference to Nogokpo, I wish to clarify that I never intended to refer to the town but rather make reference to an incident that happened after a crusade at Aflao.”

The Archbishop stated that he “had absolutely no intention to cast a slur upon the people of the Nogokpo town and the Volta Region as a whole.”

He added, “I have had a very cordial relationship with the people of the Volta Region, and my wife of 38 years is, in fact, an Ewe from Keta. Two of my biological children bear Ewe names.”

The man of God stated that none of these examples was intended to denigrate any of the towns and their people but rather to elucidate the principle of divine protection to congregants.

He said, “Any misrepresentation or misinformation that has characterised the subsequent commentary and reportage is unfortunate.

“My ministry over the past 40 years has been one that has spoken up at critical times in our nation as a spiritual gatekeeper and I remain committed to serving God’s people and our nation as the Spirit directs.”

Bishop Agyinasare backs ‘Make Accra Work Again’ campaign https://www.adomonline.com/bishop-agyinasare-backs-make-accra-work-again-campaign/ Mon, 21 Jun 2021 15:53:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1976679 The General Overseer of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has charged Ghanaians to pray earnestly in support of Henry Quartey’s vision for Accra.

According to the Bishop, the Greater Accra Regional Minister is embarking on a campaign called ‘Make Accra Work Again Campaign’, a project geared at enforcing sanitation laws in the city.

Preaching on a leadership theme on Sunday, the founder of Precious TV said that Mr Quartey made a lot of sense to him when he said: “Ghanaians travel to Singapore and other places, and they don’t throw rubbish around because they obey the law. However, after their two-week vacation, they start littering the city when they return from the airport. So I want to enforce the laws laid down for the city.”

The Bishop became pleased with Mr Quartey’s statement and said he is personally praying for him to succeed in the campaign and make Ghanaians disciplined and responsible.

“One of the leaders I am praying for is the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, for his passion for transforming Accra under the ‘Make Accra Work Again’ campaign.

“What made him my darling is when he said, ‘We have set up a committee to come out with a blueprint for the city’. So that anyone who takes over from me can continue with what the city must be.

“He called the document (The Make Accra Work Again bible), and he said the words of Salifu Amankwah, Egyiri Blankson, Nii Oko Vandapuye that they did before me must be continued,” Agyinasare said.

For him, leaders with a vision like Mr Quartey’s must be supported despite their political affiliations.

“If anyone talks like the way Henry Quartey is talking, we must support that person. And so for me, I say that we must support this Regional Minister who wants to make Accra work again for the benefit of all of us,” he said

In his view, the system is working in London to ensure every citizen complies with the COVID-19 protocols.

In a video he shared on Facebook, the man of God, who is on holidays, said immediately he touched down with his family, they were given an order to self-isolate for some time before they can go out.

Bishop Agyinasare said he could go out after his second COVID-19 test was negative.

“When you go out, you are fined £2,000. The system is working 24/7,” he added.

READ: Agyinasare’s ‘love letter’ to Akufo-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/read-agyinasares-love-letter-to-akufo-addo/ Mon, 21 Dec 2020 17:26:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1896926 Founder of Perez Chapel International, Most Rev Charles Agyinasare, is hoping President Nana Akufo-Addo will reduce the number of ministers in his government.

In his view, a small country like Ghana having more than 80 Ministers of State at the presidency is a waste of resources.

In a 10-point note to the government during his sermon on Sunday, December 20, 2020, Rev. Agyinasare maintained that the number of ministers in the next government must reduce.

“A small country like ours that is always having a budget deficit and looking for foreign aid to balance our budget should not have more than 80 ministers, otherwise, it would be a waste of our resources. There should be a significant reduction of the staff in the Flagstaff House,” he suggested.

Read Agyinasare’s letter to President Akufo-Addo:
These are things I have been talking about for some time now, but I think it’s important to reiterate this FOR THE INCOMING GOVERNMENT.

Know that after the second year, we would ask for accountability on the things stated.

1. Security of civil and public service

That they would deliver to us a civil and public service that is non-partisan and staff would have security of service.

2. Completion of Projects

The government should give us credible & visible reports we can all see of the completion of projects started by past governments being completed and used.

The affordable houses built by previous governments must be completed and used (either by our teachers, nurses, police etc).

3. No more tribal politics

That tribal politics would not be upheld any longer in our body politic.

4. No more reckless spending by the government

The government would not spend our monies recklessly by incurring judgement debts and excessive borrowing.

Ghanaians want prudent use of our scarce national resources.

A small country like ours that is always having a budget deficit and looking for foreign aid to balance our budget should not have more than 80 ministers, otherwise, it would be a waste of our resources.

There should be a significant reduction of the staff in the flagstaff house.

5. Same rules apply for all

That politicians would not have different rules apply to them than the citizens. We don’t want a nation where politicians don’t abide by the laws they make for the citizens.

6. No more politics of insults

Our government should stop branding critics as opposition elements and unleashing its attack dogs on those who criticize her because we want the best for our country.

7. Be swift to fight corruption.

When there are allegations or exposés of corruption, it should be properly investigated, findings made public, and those culpable brought to book.

8. Other pillars of society appreciated

That the political class would not sideline the other pillars of society. (every-thing in this nation can’t be politics. If we sideline the other pillars of society and make everything political, then when even our football team plays, politicians would take the glory and also of the fall for their performance. When court cases are won or lost, politicians would be held accountable. When people commit a crime it will become political. Eventually, ordinary citizens like you and me would be the victims.)

9. Freedom of speech and expression

That they would ensure that our democracy allows us freedom of speech and we would not be afraid to share our opinion. (our constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but we must strive to build a nation where people don’t feel intimidated for sharing their opinions. There are lots of people who say they don’t want to talk simply because they would be insulted and slandered.

It’s more dangerous when political actors make it seem that non-political ac-tors cannot and should not say anything even when there is a cause, because they must be for either one party or the other.

Over the years, I have met brilliant Ghanaians in and outside this country who are doing wonderful things for other nations and yet they tell you they don’t want to be part of this nation because once you talk, criticise or do something, you would be branded and dealt with. We all don’t need to be politicians to speak our minds about the nation’s direction.

10. We need a strong and responsible opposition

That whoever is in power would allow strong opposition tv and radio stations (because without a strong opposition, we are a one-party state). What we need in this country is not just a strong opposition party but a strong and responsible opposition. Our 4th republic history has shown that we keep alternating between 2 parties. We don’t need a tit-for-tat affair).

To God be the glory.

Merry Christmas and get ready for a faith filled 2021.

Most Rev Dr Charles Agyinasare

Choose peace over chaos – Agyinasare tells Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/choose-peace-over-chaos-agyinasare-tells-mahama/ Sun, 13 Dec 2020 16:49:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1893288 General Overseer of the Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare is urging former President, John Dramani Mahama to choose peace over chaos as he contests the results of the just-ended elections.

Addressing congregants during a service Sunday, the presiding Bishop referred the NDC’s presidential candidate to the election petition at the Supreme Court in 2012; calling on him to learn lessons from its implications.

“To him, John Mahama who is contesting the presidential results we pray you do it peacefully. In 2012 when a similar thing happened it was not easy in this country, also a number of people have already lost their lives,” he added.

Using the same platform, the Presiding Archbishop called for swift investigations into the shooting incident at Techiman that led to the death of two party supporters.

“Nobody needs to die because of an election, we therefore condemn the use of firearms on unarmed civilians.

“We ask that proper investigations be conducted in the deaths of people who wanted to defend their votes because democracy is not a war.

“We must continue to pray for peace to prevail, may God help our homeland Ghana,” he added.

Full Text: Bishop Charles Agyinasare’s speech during Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s visit to Perez Dome https://www.adomonline.com/full-text-bishop-charles-agyinasares-speech-during-naana-opoku-agyemangs-visit-to-perez-dome/ Sun, 15 Nov 2020 14:21:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1880813 On Wednesday morning, this nation was hit with some very sad news— news of the demise of the first democratic President of the 4th Republic of Ghana, and founder of the National Democratic Congress, one of the two largest political parties we have in this nation.

May his soul rest in peace.

I also want to take this opportunity, on behalf of the entire Perez Family, to express my deepest condolences to our former First Lady, Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the children, the nation, and the NDC party, which he founded.

On the occasions that I met and talked with Mr Rawlings, it was clear that he loved this nation dearly; and, looking back, I can say we’ve lost a very great icon.

(Let us observe a minute’s silence in honour of our departed former President)

Today, I want to officially welcome Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang into our midst.

Even before she became running mate to the NDC’s flag bearer, I had had some interesting interactions with her by virtue of my serving on various educational councils, including that of Perez University College. In fact, with the exception of one, all the rectors we have had at the Perez University College have come from the University of Cape Coast of which she was once a Vice-Chancellor. One of our senior pastors who also lectures at Cape-Vars worked with her in the same department.

Prof, I have followed you briefly from the time you were chosen as the running mate of the NDC and how you have conducted yourself and your campaign. I have not heard you or read reports of you using insulting or abusive language on your political opponents, and this is worthy of commendation. Thank you for that exemplary conduct. Being a Christian and a member of the Methodist Church, the conduct you have exhibited is very refreshing, so do keep it up.

Let me say that, as a man of God, just as I’ve commended you for what I see you doing well, the day you or your political party—whether while in opposition or while in government—fail to do what is right, expect that I will likewise speak out and not be silent. I hope that if it happens “attack dogs” from your party will not be unleashed against me! Of course, in the unlikely event that it does happen, I will not be silenced.

In the next few days ahead of us, we will be going to the polls to elect our leaders who will lead the nation for the next four years. It is unfortunate that every election season in this nation has been characterised by so much tension and threats of violence. Since 1992, this has been the unfortunate cycle we have had to endure as citizens of this great nation.

Let me take this opportunity, once again, to admonish our politicians, especially from the two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC, that this year’s elections should not unleash violence on us. The political parties should not let loose, thugs and vigilante groups on the ordinary people. Let us experience a high level of civility on the 7th of December and beyond.

I hope and pray that the security agencies and the Electoral Commission would do a very professional and impartial job. They must not favour or support any one particular political party against the other. Unfortunately, this has been a major cause of political violence in other jurisdictions.

I want to make a passionate appeal to the journalists, that they should learn lessons from history; history has taught us that some nations have gone to war, some have had civil war and tribal fights; families have been divided, and innocent lives have been destroyed all due to careless reporting of some journalists.

When you choose the path of your personal interests and sensationalism, you may end up famous and rich. However, the lives and families you would have ended up destroying may be too great to repair. I ask you, one day when you are old, will you be proud of yourselves or rather be full of regrets for your role in the outcome of our elections and the damage you would have caused to your fellow countrymen?

This election season, I urge journalists to serve the people with a pure conscience. Report the truth and nothing but the truth, not with a coloured lens due to your party affiliations.

More importantly, we expect our politicians and their supporters to aim for peace. Make the peace of this nation your topmost priority, as is mentioned in Heb 12:14: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”.

Let me be quick to add that the judiciary should continually put this nation’s interests ahead of any person’s or group’s.

The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines democracy as a government by the people, one in which “the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.” That means every single citizen of Ghana has a say in what our government would look like. As citizens we must all be committed to vote on 7th December without creating any problem at the polling station. Remember that if you do not vote, then you have no right to discuss the policies of any government. Don’t forget the outcome of elections will affect you, whether you’re interested in politics or not.

It is said that not voting is effectively casting a vote for the opponent you least agree with. If you feel like you’re just one person whose vote doesn’t matter, remember that every vote counts. In fact, yours might be the one to determine the future of this great country.

As Christians, we will continue in our God-given mandate in praying for the leaders of this nation, from the President to the opposition, the legislature, judiciary, security services, and the entire country.

God bless our homeland Ghana.

Homosexuality agenda in Ghana will get worse – Agyinasare predicts https://www.adomonline.com/homosexuality-agenda-in-ghana-will-get-worse-agyinasare-predicts/ Thu, 10 Oct 2019 05:58:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1711571 Renowned pastor, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has predicted that an agenda to promote homosexuality in the country will heighten in the coming days.

The Founder of the pentecostal-charismatic church, Perez Chapel International, said there a so-called “satanic agenda” to promote homosexuality across the world has reached a point where it has become dangerous to for a preacher to say that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI) activities are sinful.

Bishop Agyinasare made the comment in his monthly ‘Character Series’ for October.

Ghana’s laws do not criminalise all the wide range of acts that could be termed “homosexual.”

ALSO: BBC defends ‘Sex For Grades’ title, says ‘we stand by our journalism’

For instance, the law only criminalises “unnatural carnal knowledge” – explained as when there has been the least degree of penetration.

Hence a sexual act between two females does not qualify as unnatural carnal knowledge and hence cannot be punished.

But many Ghanaians see any form of LGBTQI activity as illegal. Physical and violent attacks against homosexuals have been reported several times in Accra and other regional capitals.

Also, many Ghanaians are very religious and committed to upholding their traditional moral values all of which are anti-LGBT.

Ten Commandments of Rebellion

According to the respected pastor, the agenda to promote LGBTQI in Ghana and other parts of the world is part of what he calls the Ten Commandments of Rebellion.

According to him, the Ten Commandments of Rebellion was initiated by one Alice A. Bailey (1880-1945), the founder and leader of Lucis Trust and Leader of Lucifer Publishing Trust who believed that in changing society, one has to use children and not old people because the old people are stacked with their beliefs.

He said governments all the world today are implementing her charter, which is meant to make children rebel against their parents and good ethical values.

He indicated the late Bailey’s main agenda was to change Christianity and to redeem the nations of the Christian tradition.

Bishop Charles Agyinasare in explaining the rationale behind these evil commandments said the agenda was meant to promote sexuality promiscuity, unnatural sexual practices and ungodliness.

The other agenda was to promote excessive child rights by breaking communication between parent and child.

This was to prevent parents from passing on their Christian traditions to their children, liberate children from the bondage of their parent traditions.

“She also promoted an agenda which removed corporal punishment; But On the other hand, the Bible says ‘Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell.”

The media he added is also being used to promote sexual promiscuity.

Alice Bailey he noted went ahead to promote sexual promiscuity by freeing young people to the concept of premarital sex and encourage them to have free sex and make them see the joy of having sex to be the highest joy in their life.

Abortion was also part of the agenda because she believed that if people were going to enjoy the joy of sexual relationships, they need to be free of unnecessary fears, in other words, they should not be hampered with unwanted pregnancies.

“Let children fantasise about sex and the young fantasise about even outside marriage and this you know is contrary to the word of God (Ephesians 5:3).”

“Today it is not only accessible, but it is also forced. Today abortion is a strategy to curb population control together with the use of condoms and ‘pill’’, he added.

He challenged Christians to take a stand on some of these things and defend the truth in these last days.

“If you are a Christian, you have to take a stand in these last days on some of these things. You have to be able to defend the truth. If your defence of the truth, you may be persecuted for your beliefs.”

The ten commandments of rebellion are stated as follows:

1. Take God and prayer out of the education system

2. Reduce parental authority over the children

3. Destroy the Judeo-Christian family structure or the traditional Christian family structure (Why?).

4. If sex is free, then make abortion legal and make it easy

5. Make divorce easy and legal, free people from the concept of marriage for life.

6. Make homosexuality an alternative lifestyle

7. Debase art, make it run mad

8. Use media to promote and change the mindset

9. Create an interfaith movement

10. Get governments to make all these laws and get the church to endorse these changes.

I can’t advise people where to invest anymore – Agyinasare https://www.adomonline.com/i-cant-advise-people-where-to-invest-anymore-agyinasare/ Wed, 18 Sep 2019 06:10:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1705166 Bishop Charles Agyinasare, who used to teach Christians about investing 20% of their income as Joseph advised Pharoah to do in the Bible, has said he finds it difficult giving investment counsel these days because the current crisis in Ghana’s financial sector has worsened the uncertainty that surrounds investment decisions.

In his Sunday, 15 September 2019 sermon at the Perez Dome, Dzorwulu, the Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel International confessed to his congregations that: “Two weeks ago, a gentleman wrote to me and said: ‘Bishop, I know you’ve been teaching on investment; how do you want me to invest?’ And for two weeks now, I’ve not been able to say anything because we live in a time when our financial sector has had a big hit and there’s a lot of uncertainty”.

“And, so”, he continued: “Even though I used to teach a lot on investment, it’s difficult for me to say because last year nine major banks were closed, this year 347 microfinance companies have been closed, 23 savings and loans and finance houses have also been closed. So… hello! So, how can I …?” he despaired.

The closures of the 23 S&L companies marked the completion of the Bank of Ghana’s clean-up of the banking, specialised deposit-taking (SDI), and non-bank financial institutions (NBFI) sectors which began in August 2017.

It followed the revocation of the licences of nine (9) universal banks, 347 microfinance companies (of which 155 had already ceased operations), 39 micro credit companies/money lenders (10 of which had already ceased operations), 15 savings and loans companies, eight (8) finance house companies, and two (2) non-bank financial institutions that had already ceased operations.

According to Bishop Agyinasare, the financial crisis “reminds me of Jesus’ scripture in Matthew 6:19 – 21. It says: ‘Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also’.

“What I’m trying to say simply”, Bishop Agyinasare explained to his congregation, “Is that: Beloved, if all your treasures are on earth here, there’s a lot of uncertainty because some of those banks that closed last year, they were banks that had properties, banks that had won the best ‘whatever’ every year”.

“Some of the microfinance companies that have been closed down, they were companies that when they had the CEO’s summit, they’ll be the best company that has done this, the best company that has done that; yet, they could go down. So, Jesus was saying that our treasures should not just be here [earth]”, he noted.

“And, so, today, I’m speaking on multiplication in financial crisis. If you don’t know we have a financial crisis going on, you don’t live in Ghana. Because with the list I gave you, if all these banks have closed down and these financial institutions have closed down, it means a lot of people have also lost their jobs. And when a lot of people lose their jobs it means that money [becomes hard to come by]. And, so, how do you multiply in times like this?” he asked.

Bishop Agyinasare used the true story about the nine powerful financiers in the US in the 1920s who, within a quarter of a century lost all their investments and had terrible ends in life because their earthly treasures were not rooted in God, to buttress his point about Christians not investing all their treasures here on earth.

He summed up that story thus:

The 9 Financiers

In 1923, there was a meeting of America’s most powerful men which took place at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago.

Attending the meeting were the following nine financiers and power brokers:

Charles Schwab the president of America’s largest independent steel company (Bethlehem Steel),

Samuel Insull, the president of America’s largest utility company (Edison General Electric),

Howard Hobson the president of America’s largest gas company(Associated Gas & Electric System),

Richard Whitney the president of the New York Stock Exchange,

Leon Fraser, the president of the First Bank of New York & International Settlements,

Arthur Cutten, the nation’s greatest wheat speculator,

Jesse Livermore, the nation’s greatest bear and speculator on Wall Street,

Ivar Kruger, the head of the world’s greatest monopoly (The Match King)

Albert Fall, a member of President Hoover Harding’s cabinet.

The purpose of the meeting was both a celebration of their success as well as an opportunity to plan their future exploits and dominance.

These were the captains of their respective industries and some of the most successful businessmen of the era

But how did things turn out for these distinguished gentlemen?

Within 25 years, all of these great men had met a horrific end to their careers or their lives by being dead, broke or in prison:

The president of the largest steel company, Charles Schwab, died a bankrupt man;

The president of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless;

The president of the largest gas company, Howard Hobson, suffered a mental breakdown, ending up in an insane asylum;

The president of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, had just been released from prison;

The bank president, Leon Fraser, had taken his own life;

The wheat speculator, Arthur Cutten, died penniless.

The head of the world’s greatest monopoly, Ivar Krueger the “Match king”, also had taken his life.

The member of President Harding’s cabinet, Albert Fall, had just been given a pardon from prison so that he could die at home.

As for the Wall Street Bear, Jesse Lauriston Livermore, the famous speculator in the stock and commodities markets, his end is perhaps the most tragic of all. A week after Thanksgiving in 1940, Jesse walked into the Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York, had two drinks at the bar while scribbling something in his notebook, he then proceeded to the cloak room where he sat on a stool and shot himself in the head. He was 62 and left behind $5 million, down from the $100 million fortune he had amassed just ten years earlier.

And the note he had scribbled? It read: ‘My dear Nina: Can’t help it. Things have been bad with me. I am tired of fighting. Can’t carry on any longer. This is the only way out. I am unworthy of your love. I am a failure. I am truly sorry, but this is the only way out for me. Love Laurie’.

“These were men that 25 years earlier, were the power brokers and the main people in town. I’m still buttressing the point that your treasures should not just be on earth here”, he said.

Quoting Psalm 52:7 which says: ‘Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness’, Bishop Agyinasare said: “Beloved, if you see someone who is rich today and does not care about God, don’t let that person be your example”, adding: “Proverbs 10:22 says; ‘The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it’”.

Bishop Agyinasare Honours Kufuor, Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/bishop-agyinasare-honours-kufuor-mahama/ Tue, 22 Aug 2017 07:14:21 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=419061 Bishop Charles Agyinasare has honoured former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama for their contribution to Ghana’s development as well as the church in the country.
Climaxing Perez Chapel International’s 30th anniversary ceremony on Sunday, 20 August at the Perez Dome in Accra, Bishop Agyinasare, founder of the church, said, while Mr Mahama has been supportive of the church in many ways, Mr Kufuor also accorded Christians due respect while he was in office to the extent that he once consulted with the clergy on a critical issue concerning fuel price increases.
Bishop Agyinasare presented both Mr Kufuor and Mr Mahama with special Kente cloths after recalling respective fond memories he shared with either of them during the administrations.
Mr Kufuor was the special guest of honour at the climax of the anniversary. After receiving his honour, he shared with the congregation how blessed he has been throughout his whole life simply because he appreciated God for every little blessing that came his way.
Mr Mahama, who could not make it to the service, sent a video message in which he recalled how in 2015, he joined Bishop Agyinasare on December 31 night to pray into the New Year and asked God to do away with dumsor, which in his opinion, God did.
The Perez Journey in the Last 30 Years
Today, Perez Chapel International, famous for having the biggest church auditorium in Ghana (Perez Dome) located in a very plush area (Dzorwulu) in the capital city, has 400 local branches in Ghana (16 of those in Accra, alone) and intends planting 300 more this year (2017). Additionally, it has branches in 16 nations across the world and has plans to put up basic and senior high schools across Ghana. It also intends building hospitals in the country and has every intention of ever expanding its horizon as it wins souls for Christ.
All these achievements by the Agyinasares, who co-founded PCI, formerly Word Miracle Church International (WMCI) some 30 years ago (22 March 1987 – birthday of the Bishop), are a source of pride for members who worship there today. But the journey, which started more than three decades ago, has been one of struggles, frustration, disappointment, toil, faith, determination and sacrifice. And no one but Bishop Agyinasare himself can tell that story better as he did a few months ago to his congregation at the Perez Dome on Sunday, 2 April 2017 in a message titled: ‘Pushing It To The Next Level’ to cap the Eagles Summit organised by the church as part of its 30th anniversary celebration.
“Beloved”, he referred to his congregation, “Perez Chapel has come this far by sacrifice.
“We started at the Cultural Centre in Tamale [capital of the Northern Region], then we went to the Warders’ Canteen. …We were thrown out from the Cultural Centre. For three weeks, we had to worship under a tree, for three weeks our church service was under a tree, so, from the tree, we went to Zogbeli, a classroom.
“I lived in a house without electricity for two years; there was no pipe borne water. I remember this Major who came to me for prayers, and in the house I was living in, I didn’t have furniture. I just had a student mattress in the living room, and a kitchen stool, so, when the Major came, I gave him the kitchen stool. I sat on the student mattress; he told me all his problems. After I prayed for him the Holy Spirit told me when he goes he won’t come back again. He was so disappointed: ‘If this is the man that everybody calls Brother Charles and miracles are happening, then he needed help’. But it did not stop us. I pastored the church for two years without a salary, Mama [Mrs Vivian Agyinasare] was a teacher, and, so, her money and a few other things that the Lord provided was what kept us and I had eight men living in my house of two bedrooms and one living room.
“When we put up our first church, our members sold their property: the biggest property some of them had was a motorbike or a bicycle, furniture and some small jewelries. But some sold it so that we could put up our first church. … At that time, wood was very expensive in Tamale – it still is. We put up one of the finest churches then in Tamale. Later on, when we were doing that, God led me to give my car to the church, so, it became an official car. Isn’t God good?
Moving To Accra and Surviving the Wilderness
“But God had been dealing with me to move to [Accra] by 1992. In fact, in 1992, I was preaching in New York and as I lay on my face praying for the meeting as my custom is, in the afternoon, the Holy Spirit began to speak to me about starting a church in Accra, and began to give me a blueprint of what to do when I came to Accra. I wrote them down and I said to Him: ‘Lord, You know that I’m a Champion Atta in Tamale. If you wrote a letter to me and you forgot the address and you wrote Brother Charles and you wrote Tamale, they delivered it to my house. And you want me to come to Accra? No! I like Tamale, I’m a local champion.’ If you went to any office and you mentioned my name … [everybody knew me] …
“Well, by 1994, Bishop Agyinasare continued, ‘There was a local war between the Konkombas and Nanumbas. Curfew was placed on the city, we couldn’t go to church.’ Meanwhile, the Tamale church was what was supporting all our churches we were starting. I realised it was time for me to obey God, and so, we came to the city of Accra. We started meeting at the Kanda Cluster of Schools. But years earlier, Mr Sammy Manu, who was a member in Tamale, had relocated to Accra. His father was the late S.K. Manu, who owned the CFC buildings at [Kwame Nkrumah] Circle, so, he said: ‘Why don’t you come and see if there’s something in our buildings you can use.’ So we located this warehouse but we needed about $10,000 in 1994 to fix the place. You know, in Tamale, I had this four-bedroom house with a three-plot compound that belonged to Bugri Naabu and a boys’ quarters etc. When we came to Accra, I had to go and live in my father’s house, one room and I always made a joke: with my three kids in that one room and our bags everywhere, in the night when there was a ‘shaking’, I couldn’t even shake, when there was a ‘move’, I couldn’t move. So, every night, instead of sleeping, I would spend the time walking about praying that God would give us a breakthrough in the city of Accra, [that] He will create space for us. And by the grace of God, God gave me the opportunity to rent a house by myself, paid for two years, then my landlord … – that’s what he said – the day he came to my house and saw the furniture, said: ‘No, it was two years. Now I’ve changed it. It’s one-and-a-half years.’ So we located in the city of Accra.
“We needed to raise $10,000 in 1994. We didn’t have it, so I decided to travel with my wife. A friend of mine gave me a ticket and also my frequent flyer programme could take care of a ticket for Mama and my daughter, so, we went to London, Germany, USA and I remember I stayed with Auntie Mary then, and I preached and I used to be a good preacher. I think the fire is still there, it is better than those days. But I will preach and sell the books in various churches. I had written ‘Rooted And Built Up In Him’. Every money they gave me for honorarium and for selling the books, I sent it back to Accra so they could use it to fix the place in the CFC buildings. I moved from London to Germany, travelled to the US. In the US I had to leave Mama at Miami to be teaching in a nursery school while I went round preaching because my job is to preach and God would bless me with the honoraria and books and I would send it.
“And I remember when it was time for us to come back after we had spent three months, when we were coming back at the airport, Mummy saw a necklace and she wanted to buy and I said to her: ‘You know every piece of the money we have has a budget, and so I can’t give this money to you but one day I’m going to buy you the kind of necklace you want.’ The next time I turned to look at her, tears were streaming down her eyes and I began to rub her back. Today, any kind of necklace she wants, I can buy. … So this church was started with sacrifice. We refurbished the hall and in October 1994, we started our first Sunday morning service. The first Sunday morning service, 70 people came. … The room was big, lots of empty spaces, so I told them to arrange the benches in such a way that instead of seven people on the bench, three people will sit on a bench, and they should space it so that it looks like ‘we too we dey small’. And then when I was getting ready to preach, the Holy Spirit said: ‘Tell the people to get ready for a double service.’ …So, I got up and said to the people that God said we should get ready for a double service.’ If you were there and I was saying that you’ll be very disappointed. But by the grace of God, in three months’ time we were running a double service. By the end of one year, we were running four services with 3,000 people and when we had our miracle services, people would be sitting in the rain outside expecting the power of God. We would jam the room as much as we could.
“And so by the second year, I became so disturbed that with the multitudes coming, we could lose them, so, we needed a place of our own and from day one when we started church, I told the accountant: ‘Every month, save a certain amount.’ Even though we didn’t have enough to pay the pastors comfortably, I said we should save money. So, by the end of the second year getting to the third year, we had saved what in those days was 40 million cedis and in those days for a young church to save 40 million, we were big men, and, so, I was praying: ‘God give us a place.’ And suddenly God began to open my eyes: whether I was eating, or I was bathing or I was walking, I would see us worshipping on a big park. I began to see it all the time, and so, one day there was this advert in the newspapers that the former Meat Marketing Board was selling all their properties. One of my associates told me, so we came to see, when we walked into this place [referring to the Perez Dome], this place you see now, was a park with giant grass. The old auditorium you see, used to be the warehouse for the cows. It was broken down, run down and the roofs had collapsed. The buildings were dilapidated, there was nothing on this premises. Immediately we walked in here, the grass changed to look like human beings for me. I knew this was the place, so, we put in a bid and by the grace of only almighty God, we won the bid. Then it was time to pay the money, then we said we were paying 750 million cedis and all the money we had in our coffers was 40 million cedis. I don’t know how we were going to get it, so, I went to Sogakope to fast and pray for 10 days seeking the grace of God, came back and we did a fundraising and by the grace of God, God surprised us, people sold their properties, people made sacrifices. I remember those days, I pledged 20 million cedis, the newspapers said they haven’t heard a pastor who is also giving 20 million cedis; it was good and bad. The good side was that they said the pastors they knew, they don’t give when they take an offering. But this man is giving an offering. The bad part was that they couldn’t understand where I was going to get 20 million cedis to give. But by the grace of God, and the sacrifices of His church, we bought this place and fixed this place. This church was built on sacrifice, and, so, if we are going to possess our possession, there must be a dying first. …And so going forward, I charge you and I challenge you to sacrifice and make this church great and write your name in the sands of time.”
Agyinasare’s Calling
“This church is not just one of those churches; this church was started out of a divine commission,” Bishop Agyinasare stressed, recalling: “I came into full-time pastoral ministry in 1983. That year was a year of desperation and frustration for me. I wanted to see God use me like it happened in the Acts of the Apostles, and, so, I would pray night after night believing God for a divine visitation. Then the Morris Cerullo School of Ministry came to town. Dr Cerullo did not come himself. He came on a video cassette. Dr Alex Ness who came on the last day of the School of Ministry anointed us with oil. When I went to my seat to kneel down, while I was kneeling I heard the sound of what seemed like thunder and lightning and I heard an audible voice say to me: ‘My boy Charles, I send you out as I sent Moses, go and I will put my words on your lips and take the world for me.’ After this, when we closed the conference, I sought for a place to fast and pray. On the third day of the fast, I had a continuation of the message: ‘My boy Charles, I give unto you power over demons and principalities, heal the sick, raise the dead, reach the kingdom.’ I said: ‘God, if it’s you, say it one more time.’ It came a second time. I said: ‘God, if it’s you, give me scripture for it.’ Then He gave me Luke Chapter 9: 1&2. It says: ‘Then He called his 12 disciples together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.’ So this church is not just a church, it’s a church that has been sent. We are on an assignment, it’s a divine assignment, it’s a divine commission that God sent us to accomplish. And so, I started going round and ministering here a little, there a little, doing crusades but finally in 1987, God sent me to Tamale to start this church that you see, within these 30 years, God took us from a classroom at Zogbeli in Tamale to almost 400 local churches now, in 16 nations of the world. We have 62 churches in the city of Accra.
The Future
“By the grace of God, we have what is said to be the largest auditorium in Ghana, the Perez Dome. We’ve been blessed with a TV station; God has blessed us with a University. As a church, God has been good to us, but as I prayed for this 30th anniversary, the Lord said to me in Joshua 13:1: ‘Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, ‘You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to possess.’ … God was saying to Joshua, Joshua you have accomplished some things but there’s still more to do. And I came this morning to tell you that God’s word to us is that there is more to do. In fact we are just beginning. The church that started with nothing, today see where we are. If we started with nothing and we are here today, then can you imagine with the resources that we have – both human and material – can you imagine where we are going? …But what will it take for us to possess the land we need to possess? It will take sacrifice. So, God has brought us thus far, but we are not going to settle. It is time God is asking us to sacrifice and to take this gospel to another level.”
That next level, according to Bishop Agyinasare, will require the sacrifice of “giants” in the church, who he described as the “pillars” of Perez Chapel International. As a man of vision, Bishop Agyinasare believes in using the church not only to win souls for Christ, but also raise a generation of morally upright youth who are free of corruption, homosexuality, occultism, and other social vices. He believes in deploying all the resources available to the church to impact society positively. And in all this, he has had the support of a strong and dependable partner, Rev Mrs Vivian Agyinasare, who he never misses the slightest opportunity to celebrate to the world. The couple are blessed with four children: three biological and one adopted. They are Rev Dr Selasie Agyinasare, Rev Francis Agyinasare, Charlene Agyinasare and Clementina Quarshie.
