Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, the outspoken actress said although some of her colleagues criticise her for being vocal about the state of the industry, she will not relent.

She stressed that her commitment is for the benefit of younger actors entering the field.

“I used to say the Ghanaian film industry is not worth dying for but I have changed my mind. Because I think that I am fighting for the next generation of film makers. Not the people who think they are okay, who think they are satisfied, they are content with where they are; with where they are movie industry is. I am fighting for the next generation,” she said.

According to her, many young actors frequently reach out to her, expressing their frustrations and urging her not to give up her advocacy.

In an Instagram post published on 15th July 2025, Sarfo lamented that the talents of many Ghanaian actors who could thrive elsewhere, particularly in Nigeria, are being wasted at home.

“Honestly, if you’re in Nigeria as an actor, you’d realize that you’ve REALLY WASTED YOUR TALENT back in Ghana,” she wrote. “As in, people are shooting on a daily basis, back to back, non stop. Meanwhile, in my country Ghana, producers STRUGGLE to even shoot one film in a year.”

She described the situation as “CRAZY” and “totally disheartening,” questioning what had gone wrong in an industry that once flourished. “What has happened to our industry??? Talents are BEING WASTED. Mercy Lord,” she added.

Her comments drew mixed reactions, with some lambasting her for portraying Ghana in a bad light.

Gloria Sarfo has featured in a number of productions including Efiewura, The Perfect Picture, Aloe Vera and Adam The Eve.

Adjetey Anang advocates storytelling as powerful tool in fight against galamsey https://www.adomonline.com/adjetey-anang-advocates-storytelling-as-powerful-tool-in-fight-against-galamsey/ Fri, 27 Sep 2024 15:32:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2454331 Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang has emphasized the role of storytelling in addressing societal issues such as illegal mining, locally referred to as galamsey.

Responding to a question about the importance of the creative industry in the fight against illegal mining, the ‘Things We Do for Love’ star explained that creatives hold significant influence, which can be more effectively expressed through their craft than through protests.

“We’ve mastered the art of integrating these issues into the stories we tell. If you pay attention to our productions, you’ll notice that we subtly insert references to pressing issues like galamsey. It allows audiences to enjoy the entertainment while also recognizing that serious problems are being highlighted. That’s where we should make our voices heard—not just by hitting the streets, but through our work,” he explained in an interview on Accra based 3FM.

Nonetheless, Anang said he is in support for demonstrations on crucial matters like galamsey, provided they are conducted lawfully.

His remarks follow a recent three-day demonstration organized by Democracy Hub on September 17, aimed at pressuring the government to take stronger action against galamsey, which is causing severe harm to water bodies and forests.

However, around 40 protesters were arrested and detained for allegedly committing various offences during the protest, sparking public outcry and calls for their release.

Stop chasing fame – Chris Attoh to upcoming actors https://www.adomonline.com/stop-chasing-fame-chris-attoh-to-upcoming-actors/ Sat, 23 Mar 2024 16:48:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2372119 Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh is urging aspiring actors to prioritize honing their craft over the pursuit of fame.

The seasoned actor holds the view that many emerging talents are eager to make a name for themselves in the film industry at the expense of their dedication to the craft.

Speaking in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, the Tinsel star, who has similarly starred in films such as “The Rangers” and “Zombie Ted,” cautioned against the temptation to chase fame prematurely, explaining that true recognition in the industry would follow once individuals have attained mastery in their craft.

He said: “What I can tell the upcoming talents in our industry is to focus on getting to know the industry and what it takes to make one an actor of great calibre. Don’t chase after fame; it will rather chase you when you properly master the industry. Let us recognize that true success in the entertainment industry is built on a foundation of hard work, dedication and a genuine passion for the craft.”

The popular actor is currently gearing up for the release of his latest project, “NINE,” which he produced and directed.

Nigeria warns against local movies demeaning police https://www.adomonline.com/nigeria-warns-against-local-movies-demeaning-police/ Tue, 02 Aug 2022 14:05:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2144552 Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police has warned actors and movie producers against portraying police officers in bad light without prior approval.

Inspector-General Usman Baba says movie scenes of actors in police uniforms must now be approved as set out in law and defaulters will be prosecuted.

The order is meant to “correct wrong perceptions” of would-be criminals.

Nollywood, as the Nigerian film industry is called, produces movies consumed across Africa that have regular depictions of police officers.

“Film or skit makers who portray the Nigeria Police Force officers in bad light, without applying for, and being duly issued a permit letter for such portrayals, to desist with immediate effect or face the full wrath of the law,” a statement by police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi said.

It said approvals will be given to applications on usage of police items that “portray good values, impress positively on the Nigerian public and add value to our system”.

Many actors get aroused while filming sex scenes — here’s what happens next https://www.adomonline.com/many-actors-get-aroused-while-filming-sex-scenes-heres-what-happens-next-2/ Wed, 02 Mar 2022 13:05:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2086447 While sex scenes may seem romantic and well-played on screen, they’re not all that sexy behind the scenes.

But, of course, there are times during filming when things can go awry and an accident can happen — including when an actor gets physically aroused during a simulated sex scene.

In fact, when shooting love scenes, arousal is very normal, as the actors “are going through the physical and the mind, so yeah, it happens,” intimacy coordinator David Thackeray recently told Insider.

Thackeray added that a “time-out” is called for the stars to collect themselves, and coordinators must also make sure the actors’ needs are met.

“Just making it really clear that’s normal and that the worst thing you can do is carry on,” he revealed, adding that coordinators should be clear that, “Hey, this can happen.”

Intimacy coordinators are the ones who keep love scenes running smoothly on set and help choreograph sex movements and intimate action, as well as help make the actors feel comfortable during awkward scenes.

Thackeray — who has worked on projects for studios such as Netflix, Warner Bros. and HBO — explained that there are certain protocols, including a “time-out,” for when cast members get a bit too…excited.

“Give them five minutes, then I come in and check in,” he said. “Then we come back into it when they’re ready.”

Netflix announced September 27, 2021 that it's period drama "Bridgerton" was their most-watched TV series ever.
“Bridgerton” was known for its steamy love scenes throughout the first season.
LIAM DANIEL/NETFLIX

“The worst thing we can do is gawk or make it a massive deal,” he continued. “I will say for the crew as well, making sure they’re aware of what scene is being shot, what nudity is gonna be seen. You don’t want them to be surprised.”

Coordinators also advise cast and crew on the possibility of the players becoming sexually aroused and being present for anyone who feels uncomfortable.

Intimacy coordinators play a big role in steamy romance dramas, such as Netflix’s “Bridgerton.”

Phoebe Dynevor stars as Daphne Bridgerton on the Shonda Rhimes-helmed series. The 25-year-old revealed to Glamour last year that an intimacy coordinator helped her with the many saucy, NSFW scenes she had with co-star Regé-Jean Page, who played love interest Simon Basset.

“We did the intimate scenes like stunts — we blocked them out, so you have yoga balls, in between you and all sorts of things that never make you feel exposed in any way,” the “Younger” actress said, adding that the scenes weren’t as effortless as they appear on the screen.

Intimacy coordinators help make sure the actors are comfortable on set while filming intimate scenes.

“I’d rehearse with Regé so much that we both knew what we were doing. It felt very practical. But on my own, it’s a different thing,” she said about their sex scenes together. “The stage directions are very specific: You have to have an orgasm. It’s a difficult thing to rehearse, which means you don’t. You just do it.”

She then underscored the value of an intimacy coordinator by noting that if they hadn’t used one, it would have been the male director telling her what to do.

“No one wants to be told how to orgasm by a man,” she said.

He has, therefore, asked interested actors to get in touch on his Instagram account.

“If you’re an actor, just keep up my IG, I am gonna hire a few people to be in a film of a few Ghanaians and showcase them to the world”, he said.

In an exclusive interview on ‘Joy News’, he disclosed that he intends to reach out to Tyler Perry to consider building a film studio in Ghana.

Mr. Blackson, who also serves as a comedian, mentioned he wants the world to get to know what the Ghanaian movie industry and the country as a whole have to offer.

“Ghana has so much beauty that I want the world to see, I want us to be like, eventually be a place where people come to shoot a big movie”, he stated.

“First thing I would like to do with the whole movie thing is to show, I would like to showcase my country to the world so I decided this summer I wanna shoot a project here. A community series, something I could sell to like Netflix or Amazon”, he added.

Beverly Afaglo slams colleagues for ‘betraying’ Dumelo https://www.adomonline.com/beverly-afaglo-slams-colleagues-for-betraying-dumelo/ Thu, 03 Dec 2020 15:55:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1888654 Actress Beverly Afaglo has sent food for thought to her colleagues who ignored John Dumelo to support his opponent.

Mr Dumelo, a first-time parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been left disappointed following his colleague actors’ public support for Lydia Alhassan.

Yesterday, tons of the New Patriotic Party filmmakers stormed the constituency to campaign for Maa Lydia and ‘teased’ Mr Dumelo with photos of their activities.

This, Beverly believes is a betrayal of the highest order, considering the friendship that existed between them and Mr Dumelo prior to his political ambition.

“How will I be able to slur, taint or dishonor a colleague’s name and hard work? How will I forget friendship and family for money and fame?” she quizzed.

Beverly says their action seems to buttress Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey’s comments about actors being unserious and unfit for parliament.

She, however, reminded her colleagues that life still goes on after December 7 elections.

Addressing the Nation on the state of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, Kenyatta said the Ksh.100 million fund will allow artistes, actors and musicians to continue entertaining the public through TV, radio and the internet.

“I direct the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage to avail Ksh.100M from the Sports Fund to our artistes, actors and musicians during the period of the covid-19 pandemic so they may continue to entertain their fellow brothers and sisters through TV, radio and the internet,” said Kenyatta.

Actors, Ghanaians rip Elikem Kumordzi apart over ‘find day job’ comments https://www.adomonline.com/actors-ghanaians-rip-elikem-kumordzi-apart-over-find-day-job-comments/ Fri, 07 Feb 2020 11:47:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1750441 Ghanaian actor cum tailor, Elikem Kumordzi, has found his way into the bad books of some actors and Ghanaians after he advised filmmakers to find day jobs instead of depending on producers for salaries.

Following an allegation by Kofi Adjorlolo that movie producers do not pay actors for their services, Ghanaian actors have come out with their own claims of similar treatments, narrations that have obviously infuriated Elikem.

Addressing the issue in an Instagram video, Elikem Kumordzi advised his colleagues to find ‘day jobs’ rather than complain and throw jabs at producers.

Using his experience as a case study, he revealed he was running petty errands for which he was given movie roles as compensation despite being a graduate of Legon with a certificate in drama.

He explained he appreciated the work rather than demand salaries and advised his fellow colleagues to have passion for the job and not necessarily pursue acting for the money it brings.

Find something that keeps you going and gives you money while pursuing acting. STOP complaining; leave producers alone, find a day job and see who they will shoot with, he suggested.

His comments infuriated some colleagues with the likes of James Gardiner, Juliet Ibrahim and other Ghanaians quick to jab and shred the actor into pieces.

Elikem was, however, quick to reply some users who were turning the banter into trolls, educating a few while practically insulting those he thought deserved it.

Known for movies such as ‘The Intruder’, ‘Diary of the Black Hustler’, ‘Total Exchange’, ‘Frozen Emotions’, ‘My Mother’s Heart’, ‘Check Mate’, ‘The Secret Burden’ and ‘A Woman’s Desire’, Ekow Blankson in an interview with SVTV said current actors are no longer interesting to watch, compared to his time.

“I think that our new crop of actors are just jokers. Unfortunately they aren’t as exciting and real as people have done in the past. Sometimes it gets a bit worrying watching them perform,” he said.
Commenting on movies produced in Kumasi, commonly referred to as ‘Kumawood’, the ace actor said the sector has adapted the ‘concert party’ style where actors are not guided by scripts.

Ekow Blankson’s role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Check Mate’ earned him a Best Actor nomination at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Best Supporting Actor at the Ghana Movie Awards.
