Mumin sustained the injury on March 31 during Rayo Vallecano’s 1-1 draw with Sevilla and has since been sidelined from La Liga action.

With the Black Stars set to regroup in London later this month for a four-nation friendly tournament featuring Trinidad & Tobago, Nigeria, and Jamaica, the technical team is closely monitoring Mumin’s rehabilitation progress.

Ghana is scheduled to play on May 28 and June 3, 2025 (note: June has only 30 days), as part of the tournament, which will be hosted in the United Kingdom.

Mumin, who has made nine appearances for the senior national team, was pleased with Coach Addo’s visit and took the opportunity to update him on his recovery.

Having already missed Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, Mumin is also set to miss the UK tournament, which serves as a key part of the team’s preparation for the next round of qualifiers in September.

However, he is expected to return to the Black Stars squad for the matches against Chad and Mali in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers before the final round of games against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October.

Ghana Stars Inaki Williams and Abdul Mumin earn nominations for La Liga African MVP award https://www.adomonline.com/ghana-stars-inaki-williams-and-abdul-mumin-earn-nominations-for-la-liga-african-mvp-award/ Wed, 14 May 2025 22:01:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2534950 Ghana stars Inaki Williams and Abdul Mumin have earned nominations for the prestigious 2024/25 La Liga African Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Williams, last season’s winner, has continued his impressive form with Athletic Bilbao, tallying six goals and six assists so far this campaign. He was also instrumental in Bilbao’s run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, although their hopes were dashed following a heavy defeat to Manchester United.

Abdul Mumin, a central defender for Rayo Vallecano, also enjoyed a solid season before a knee injury cut his campaign short. The 24-year-old made 24 league appearances, scoring twice, assisting once, and helping his side keep six clean sheets. His standout performances earned him Rayo’s Player of the Month award earlier in the season.

The Ghanaian pair are among 20 nominees representing 13 African nations. Winners will be determined through a combination of fan votes from Sub-Saharan Africa and evaluations by a panel of 25 African sports journalists.

Voting ends on May 14, with the winner to be announced on May 25, in celebration of Africa Day.

The enterprising centre-back sustained the injury during Rayo Vallecano’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla over the weekend, forcing him off in the 35th minute.

According to reports in the Spanish media, the 26-year-old will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Mumin has been a key figure for Vallecano, making 24 appearances out of 26 La Liga games this season. He also ranks first for blocks in the league.

His injury comes as a major setback ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and March 24, respectively.

The defender is now expected to miss those crucial fixtures but could return for matchday seven and eight of the qualifiers.

Mumin has two caps for the Black Stars.

Ex-RTU coach Abdul Mumin demands unpaid salaries after sack https://www.adomonline.com/ex-rtu-coach-abdul-mumin-demands-unpaid-salaries-after-sack/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 12:14:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385968 Former Real Tamale United (RTU) coach, Abdul Mumin is demanding his unpaid bonuses after his dismissal amid accusations of match manipulation.

Mumin was sacked following RTU’s 2-1 home defeat to Nsoatreman FC over the weekend at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex.

Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview, Mumin disclosed that, he hasn’t received payment for his services since the 2022/23 season, including unpaid salaries and bonuses spanning multiple seasons.

“We went on mutual termination. I couldn’t have resigned because I have a lot of money to take from them. That’s my unpaid salaries and bonuses from the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. The only money we have received is just that of March this year. Just last month, they paid only that one for the whole of this year,” Mumin lamented.

He explained that, his decision to volunteer for the coaching role was driven by a desire to support the development of young players and contribute to the growth of the game, despite facing financial setbacks.

“We thought that we are supposed to develop and help the young guys and the game, but there was a situation where the team had nobody to come and assist. And we thought we have the A license, so I volunteered to help in that direction and there were even occasions where players were paid, and I wasn’t paid,” Abdul Mumin added.

Meanwhile, RTU remains at the bottom of the Premier League log with 25 points after 27 games.

Embattled Sekondi-Takoradi MCE in fresh trouble https://www.adomonline.com/embattled-sekondi-takoradi-mce-in-fresh-trouble/ Mon, 07 Feb 2022 11:07:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2076548 The Paramount Chief of Aowin Traditional Area, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III, is with immediate effect demanding an apology from the embattled Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Cheif Executive (MCE), Abdul Mumin Issah.

The demand comes on the back of an altercation between Mr Issah who has since been suspended and a police officer, Inspector Sarfo Andrews.

At around 8.30 pm on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, the MCE, who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GE 5615-20, while approaching the police checkpoint, decided to move past cars waiting to go through the snap check at the Kwesimintsim cemetery.

Inspector Sarfo and his team, who were at the time on duty, stopped the MCE who was allegedly flouting road regulations which led to him nearly hitting the former.

In a 20-minute audio that went viral, the MCE was heard angrily heaping invectives on the police officer for insisting that he joins the queue like others.

Mr Issah, among other things, threatened to ensure the Inspector is transferred to Enchi but the officer, who was unperturbed, retorted transfer was not a crime in the service.

But according to the chief, he was not quick to make a statement because he understands Mr Issah is such a pleasant man that what transpired had left those who know him astounded.

Describing his behaviour as a probable rush of blood, Nana Benbuin III said he thought once his head was cleared up, he would deem it expedient and prudent to render an unconditional apology to the chiefs and people of the Aowin Municipality.
